Brush off the passport, pack the bags, and plop down in your favorite lazy spot because we're going global on today's show! In this special Living Abroad episode, we invite world travelers living in various countries to share how they did it, what they should've learned earlier, and what life experiences they've gained since settling into their new lives. Joining our round table is a French native and former Guatemala-living Pauline Paquin from the Reach Financial Independence blog, Jim White from the Route to Retire blog (who moved to Panama with his wife and daughter at 43), and Travis Luther, author of Fun Side of the Wall, a book explaining why baby boomers are flocking to Mexico for retirement. Friday Fintech: Jassby - An App for Families After our trio wraps up all things travel Joe sits down with Benny Nachman, founder of the family money-sharing app Jassby. The app provides an easy-to-use system that lets parents assign responsibilities to children, pay allowances, and even setup a virtual debit card. Listener Voicemail: Gifting Stocks? During our MagnifyMoney segment, we take on a question about gifting stocks to students from high school teacher Jake. Additionally, he asks, is there a good way to buy fractional shares as a gift? A few of the stocks his students are interested in are a few hundred dollars a piece... not exactly feasible to buy for a whole class. As always, Doug has some post-Fintech airtime to deliver his game-show trivia. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

We got the chance to sit down with Pauline Paquin for this episode! Pauline is a digital nomad - originally from France and now living most of the year in Guatemala. She hustled straight out of the gate in her teenaged years that translated into massive success as an adult. Massive success being a fairly robust nest egg and a healthy passive income stream, of course. She now travels when she wants and get to do only things she wants to do. You will love her story! We also chat about... Dog sitting in Guatemala Building a rental property in Colorado Enjoy this chat with Pauline, and please subscribe to us in iTunes if you enjoyed it! Show notes and links from today's episode Upwork (hiring freelancers) Flippa (buying websites) Pauline's Blog Pauline's Twitter Key takeaways from our chat with Pauline: 1 - Pauline hustled early and often When other teenagers were hanging out with friends at the movies or the mall, Pauline was hustling. She was tutoring younger kids on the piano, moving boxes, and babysitting. This set her up well for college, which then snowballed into setting her up well for life. 2 - It's hard to get credit when you're self-employed Pauline wanted to buy a rental property but was blocked..... because she was self - employed and banks don't like to give you credit when you don't have regular income from a "regular" job. Gwen found this out the hard way when she applied for a basic zero percent balance transfer credit card after leaving her career job. She'd never been denied for a card, until that application. She will also be shut out of real estate for a very long time as she won't be able to get a mortgage from a bank. Although, there are alternative options to get a rental property if you can't go to a bank. Private lenders, partnerships, and seller financing are all ways to avoid going through a bank. 3 - Pauline values her time She works on things that interest her. 5 years ago, that wasn't building, but she needed a place to live and decided to build it. One house later she was hooked! She doesn't do things that don't interest her, which is a real rarity in today's world. She travels the world for 6+ months at a time and lives on a beautiful lake in Guatemala. Thanks to her hard work in the past, she has a healthy passive income stream Questions? Like or dislike? Want to learn how to reach financial independence, so you can sit by the beach and do whatever you want? Well, it's not exactly easy but it is absolutely possible. I chat with Pauline Paquin, blogger at Reach Financial Independence, to discuss how she was able to leave the 9 to 5 world, work remotely in Guatemala, and live a life most of us could only dream of.  Long description: Ever dreamed quitting your 9 to 5 and working remotely from your laptop in paradise? Sounds like a dream, but it can actually become your reality...if you follow in Pauline Paquin's footsteps. Pauline has figured out the secret sauce to living a financially independent life, like so many of us fantasize about on a day-to-day basis. But it wasn't just luck, and no she didn't win the lottery. She started out by graduating university debt-free and investing her savings into a rental property. The income from the rental helped pay for her to travel abroad, but she knew she needed do something extra to not always live on a shoestring budget. So, she started freelance writing and eventually started her own blog — Reach Financial Independence. Since then, she's also started another blog called Make Money Your Way, and has bought two other money-making blogs — Frugaling and Savvy Scot. Pauline also shares one of her big inspirations and motivators in her life — Ramit Sethi from I Will Teach You to Be Rich. One of the biggest lessons she's learned from Ramit's teachings is that you should adopt an abundance money mindset instead of a scarcity mindset. This essentially means stopping the thinking of "I can't afford that" and changing it to "How can I afford that? What do I need to do in my life to reach that goal." Having the right mindset when it comes to money is a big key to reaching your goals, no matter what they are, and I'll admit I absolutely have the same money mindset when it comes to my life.
