In the years since it launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has subjected thousands of Ukrainian civilians to tortuous treatment in prison camps across the occupied territories. In this season premiere of the U.S. Helsinki Commission's podcast "The Transatlantic" Russian human rights activist Evgenia Chirikova discusses her experience searching for answers about what happens to those Ukrainians trapped in this system of terror and outlines the type of accountability she believes is necessary to bring the perpetrators of this abuse to justice. We also take a deeper dive into the American College of Surgeons Geriatric Surgery Verification Program, including its goals, impact, and how clinicians can get involved in advancing surgical care for the aging patient population. Take Home Points:  The older adult population is the fastest growing patient population and it is important we focus on patient-centered care for this population, as this is a population that almost all of us will engage with.  If you or your hospital isn't prepared to get verified yet, there are still small processes that can be implemented that can make an impactful difference on your patients. Geriatric Surgery Verification is at the cutting edge of quality improvement. Like other verification programs (trauma, bariatric) patients will soon seek out these centers that can best address their personal needs. She recounts how her original approach was for a routine charity-profile, but as the scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein intensified, she persuaded the palace to agree to a sit-down that would include “the news issues that were pertinent” — including Epstein. She says she was shocked at how open and responsive Andrew seemed during the negotiations, which gave her confidence the interview would proceed.McAlister also states that, in the direct lead-up to the interview's broadcast, Andrew believed he had succeeded — he reportedly gave the BBC interviewing team a tour of Buckingham Palace, smiled and seemed upbeat, giving the impression he expected the exposure to vindicate him. We're opening up the archives for a very special episode. Years ago, I sat down with Erika Kirk for a candid conversation before she even married Charlie Kirk. In this episode, you'll get to know Erika's heart, her passion for faith and culture, and her mission in life.   This is a rare look at Erika's story before the headlines, before her marriage, and before many knew her name.   JOIN MY TEXT LINE: Text "KRISTAN" to 53445 for daily pro-life updates from me.   Don't forget to like, subscribe, and share this episode to stay informed and spread the word!   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kristanmercerhawkins/ X: https://x.com/KristanHawkins Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HawkinsKristan
