I am super excited to introduce you to today's guest, who is a true powerhouse and influential voice! Dr. Jen Welter is a successful entrepreneur, author, in-demand keynote speaker, and NFL football coach. As the first female coach in NFL history, she serves as an amazing role model and an inspiring reminder that barriers are meant to be broken. With a career studded with a number of firsts, Dr. Welter made history when she coached the Arizona Cardinals' inside linebackers for their 2015 training camp. She was also the first woman to play running back in a men's professional football season with the Texas Revolution. She has a PhD in Psychology and a Masters in Sport Psychology. Jen played professional and semi-pro football as a linebacker (on women's teams) and as a running back (for a men's team). She's most notably known for being the first woman to be hired as an assistant coach, when the Arizona Cardinals brought her in to be an assistant coaching intern during their 2015 pre-season training camp. (2015 linebackers coach for the Arizona Cardinals), Following her record-breaking accomplishment with the Cardinals, Welter became the head coach of the first Australian women’s national team in 2017. Welter became the first woman to play running back in a men's professional football league with the Texas Revolution. Prior to joining the world of men’s professional football, Welter had a highly decorated 14-year career in women’s professional football which included four World Championships, two gold medals as a member of Team USA in the 2010 and 2013 International Federation of American Football’s (IFAF) Women’s World Championship, and eight all-star selections. She was inducted into the first class of the Women’s Football Hall of Fame on November 30, 2018. Welter is committed to increasing access and opportunities in football. To empower women through football, Welter designed her signature program, “A Day in the Life,” Camp which debuted with the Washington Redskins women's program in 2015. She continues to create a range of camps for girls and women through her GRRRidiron Flag Football Camp, along with a number of other community initiatives like her Camp on the Corner program that brings football to youth in under-served areas. Dr. Jen “Coach” Welter is an amazing example of following your passion. She is also a prime example of what hard work, grit, and determination can get you. “Coach Jen” is most commonly known for being the first female to coach in the NFL where she was an inside linebackers coach in 2015. She has been playing football since college and was the first female to play running back in men's pro football. She has more accolades than you can count on your fingers in pro football, also her PhD in psychology and most recently released her book “Play Big” Lessons in being limitless from the first woman to coach in the NFL.
