•Originally preached on Sunday, July 28, 2024 The Psalms are fundamentally a book of worship for the people of God. They take essential themes of theology and turn them into prayers and songs. But they are more than mere pieces of ancient liturgy—they are inspired Scripture! The Psalms are part of God's revelation of Himself and His salvation, and He has graciously given them to us to shape and inform our worship of Him.

The Trinity did not exist until Jesus was resurrected and EXALTED to the fullness of the Godhead. NOTICE: An earthly example of the Trinity existed in Genesis Chapters 39-50: The Pharaoh ruled Egypt by His Word. The Pharaoh then exalted Joseph to the 2nd highest position in Egypt and gave the everyday rule over all Egypt, except over the Pharaoh, to Joseph. When speech loses its integrity, society abandons trust. What happens when language is abused, and instead of truth, it is merely about what gets me ahead?

Encouragement today from Proverbs 30!
Psalm 12 may have been written 3,000 years ago, but as with all the Psalms, it connects with every generation.---On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the children of man.- It can be tempting at times to think that it has never been this bad before- That this generation trumps all prior generations.- -In the 4th century, Evagrius of Pontus said it this way- -First the righteous fail, then the truth is diminished. Not only is there no truth among the righteous, there is no holiness among honest people. Now, since the righteous have failed, truth is diminished. Perhaps the poverty of righteous people is the reason why so many heresies have shot up.---That's what they said in the 4th century, as the gospel -triumphed- over the Roman empire. As millions professed faith in Jesus Christ - the faithful could only see how truth had perished.--Why do I say this-- Do I say this to tell you that it's not really that bad today-- No.--I say this to tell you that it is still that bad today---The Psalms were collected and gathered together in order to be the hymnal of God's people.--The Psalms were given to us as templates - as patterns - so that we might inhabit them -in Christ-. Just as Israel was called to sing these Psalms in David, so we are called to sing them in Christ.--Have you had any experience with friends who betrayed you-- Neighbors who lied to you-- Flatterers who flattened you-- People who used their tongues to cut you down----Then Psalm 12 is for you. In every generation from David to the present, Psalm 12 is designed for the people of God to cry out to the LORD and find comfort and refuge in him...

David feels alone, in a generation focused on emptiness and trivialities. God promises deliverance in words that are perfect and eternal. Plus a discussion on the use of imprecatory prayer.

Psalm 12:1-8
People today don’t want to take a stand for the truth, but David stood for what is right. Today’s generation doesn’t believe in commitment, especially with our words. We hear so much empty talk, lies and flattery. Flattery is manipulative, not communicative, like our advertising and some of our preaching. Be encouraged that God speaks in promise. His Word is pure and true.

David's lament continues to escalate as his circumstances become more dire. Saul's jealousy compounds as the people's flattery of David echoes in the streets. But David recognizes the detriment of being the beneficiary of empty praise: not only is it threatening his life, but it is now getting those around him and their families killed. This forces David to press in to the Lord even deeper when it looks like the faithful around him are now gone. Redemptively, his rejection of the people's empty boasts and his reliance on the pure words of the Lord will be his protection.

In book one of Psalms, the writers praise God for his justice, express confidence in God's compassion, recount the depravity of humanity, plead for vindication, ask God to deliver them from their enemies, speak of the blessedness of the forgiven sinner and portray God as a shepherd. We should worship God with the same sense of adoration found in these psalms. READ PSALM Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for this day. I thank you for our blessings. I pray you watch over us and place your hand over this community, our friends, and our neighbors. In Jesus' name, Amen.
