The Book of PsalmsPsalm 19God has revealed Himself through both creation and Scripture—pointing us toward Him and showing us exactly how to know Him. When we truly see and hear His revelation, our only right response is worship, trust, and a life lived for His glory.Sermon Preached by Steve DuBransky on May 11, 2025Foothill Church exists to glorify God by living as disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus. https://foothill.church Learn about our For the Sake of His Name 2-Year Discipleship Journey: https://foothill.church/FTSOHN
How has our Lord revealed His message in our world? Through nature and His Word! Join us as we look at Psalm 19 and begin to scratch the surface of all the ways that God has revealed His message to us! DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. The podcast mentioned two terms that theologians use to describe “revelation”. What is “General Revelation”? How do we see it described in Psalm 19? 2. According to verse 1, what do the heavens “tell” and “declare”? In your opinion, what are some ways that they do this? 3. According to verse 2, what pours forth every day and night? What are some ways that we see this reality lived out in our world? 4. Verses 3 & 4 teach about the speech going out into the world. What is this speech? What are some place where we find information from God in nature? 5. Why is the daily path of the Sun so amazing? What would happen if we were just a few thousand miles closer or further from the sun? What does this show us about God's love for our planet? 6. The podcast explained that verses 7-14 speak about what theologians call “Special Revelation”. What is Special Revelation? How is it different from General Revelation? 7. What are some of the benefits of God's Word in verses 7 & 8? What are some ways that a person might experience God's Word in this way? If they are not experiencing these promises from God's Word, what would you advise them to do? 8. In verse 10, how does David cherish God's Word? What do you think led him to have this view? How does this reflect your own view of God's Word? 9. Why does David end this psalm talking about his errors and faults? How does God make these realities clearer in our lives? What are we to do when God shows us a place in our life that is out of conformity to His Word? 10. How does God's Word purity our words and thoughts? Is there any place in your own life that needs further transformation to be pleasing to God? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! Marshall Segal addresses four common lies that can hinder Bible reading: that the Bible is irrelevant, hard to understand, unhelpful in times of pain, or won't bring happiness. He refutes these misconceptions by emphasizing the Bible's power to provide wisdom, comfort, understanding, and joy. Segal encourages reading Scripture in community, persevering through tough passages, and engaging with the Word prayerfully, recognizing the spiritual battle against distractions and discouragement.

A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, February 8th 1857.Spurgeon was very gifted in exposing human weakness, and in pleading with sinners and saints. Here he begs us to get rid of everything that offends God, however hidden from others our sins may be. His expressions, when denouncing hypocrisy, are among the strongest which he ever uttered (14:57ff). Surely if everyone followed his advice here, our souls would flourish as they have ever done before.Read by: Gavin Childress

As we continue to get to know the sons of Jacob, you'll start to realize that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Having learned the art of deception from their father, they use it to their own advantage time and again. In our last episode, they tricked a local chieftain into circumcising every man in town, and in vengeance, they struck down the entire population of men. When Joseph, Israel's favorite son, begins to have dreams where he is exalted above the rest of his family, he uses them as an occasion to gloat. The rest of his brothers then plot and scheme to rid themselves of their pesky brother. They sell him into slavery and deceive their own father by making it look like he was killed.Genesis 35 - 1:02 . Genesis 36 - 5:39 . Genesis 37 – 12:25 . Welcome to episode 187 of Grasp the Bible. In this episode, we walk through Psalm 19. Today, we will some of the ways in which God communicates with us: The book of creation (vv. 1-6) The book of Scripture (vv. 7-10) The book of the heart (vv. 11-14) Key takeaways: David gives us three ways God reveals Himself to humanity - through creation, through His Word, and through inner transformation. The message of Psalm 19 is that the glory of God displayed in the heavens points us to the grace of God displayed in the Bible. All of nature bears testimony to the divine. The reflection of God's praise in the universe is perceptible only to those already sensitive to God's revelation and purpose. As God gave the sun to illumine the earth, he has given the law to enlighten the mind and soul and to illumine man's path upon the earth. God had not only created a marvelous world and provided us with life. He has also included the instructions on how to put it all together. God makes us alive through his Word, makes us wise, and makes us glad. And to joy is added discernment. Sometimes we treat forgiveness lightly, asking God to forgive us but not really thinking that we are sinners, at least not serious sinners, and treating forgiveness almost as a basic human right. Quotable: Creation awakens our wonder, Scripture guides our path, and the Spirit changes our hearts. Application: Seeing the beauty and complexity of creation carries with it the responsibility of acknowledging the Creator both as powerful and as living above the natural order. Those who are made alive and made wise by God's Word do learn to fear Him. Our instinct is to domesticate God and make Him manageable. But the Bible teaches us that God is a genuinely frightening God. Welcome to Day 2544 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2544 – Old Testament Orientation – What is the Old Testament? Putnam Church Message – 01/05/2024 Sermon Series: Old Testament Orientation Message 1: What is the Old Testament? Last week was the final Sunday of 2024, and our focus was to press forward with a message titled “A Christ-Centered Perspective on the New Year.” This week, we are starting a new series called Old Testament Orientation. Unlike a deep dive into a particular book, this series will be a mile wide and a foot deep. We will take on the mindset of an ancient Israelite and God's plan of redemption for humankind. We will invest the first quarter of 2025 covering an Old Testament Orientation, and the second quarter of 2025 with a New Testament Orientation. Opening Prayer Heavenly Father, we come into Your presence with hearts eager to learn and grow. As we begin this journey through the Old Testament, help us to see Your story of redemption, love, and purpose. Open our minds to understand, and let our hearts be transformed by Your Word. Guide this time together, and may all we do glorify You. In Jesus' name, Amen. Introduction What is the Old Testament? For many, this question stirs thoughts of thick genealogies, ancient laws, or confusing prophecies. Yet, the Old Testament is the foundation of our faith and the beginning of God's grand story. It sets the stage for the New Testament and introduces us to the God who creates, redeems, and sustains. I like the tagline that The Bible Project uses. The Bible is a unified story that leads to Jesus. In both of our series, we will connect this unified story. (Tapestry) The Old Testament is like a vast tapestry, each thread holding a unique story that contributes to the overall masterpiece of God's plan. When we study it, we uncover the deep emotions of loss, hope, and faith. It teaches us that even during the most challenging times, like the Israelites in exile, God's presence is a promise of restoration and love, urging us to keep our eyes fixed on Him. This message will cover three key aspects: The Authorship and Structure of the Old Testament How the Old Testament Was Preserved The Authority and Relevance of the Old Testament Today Let's dive in, not just to gain knowledge, but to deepen our relationship with the Author behind the text. The Authorship and Structure of the Old Testament The Challenge of Anonymous Authorship Most Old Testament books do not name their authors explicitly. For example, Moses is traditionally considered the author of the Torah (Genesis through Deuteronomy), yet his name does not appear in the opening verses. This anonymity reflects the communal and oral culture of the ancient Near East. Story Illustration #1: Imagine a group of people passing down family stories at a campfire. Each storyteller adds vivid details, but the heart of the story remains the same. Similarly, the Old Testament emerged from a culture that valued the collective preservation of truth over individual credit. Story Illustration #2: Consider a seasoned storyteller sitting by the fire, narrating tales of ancient...
