Parsha “Emor” (Leviticus chapters 21 through 24) begins with the word “Emor,” or “speak,” and it is directed specifically: to Aaron, and his sons, and those who are ‘cohenim,’ or priests, that follow after them. Speak to THEM. And yet today, the mishkan, and the temple which followed, no longer exists. Neither does that priesthood, so far as a known lineage at least. And so, even though this instruction was given as a commandment “forever,” and “throughout your generations,” and in all your dwellings — even in exile — the things they were charged with doing cannot be done. How can it still be relevant? And though most of us have probably been told that it’s “old testament,” and thus NOT relevant, Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship suggests (surprise!) otherwise. For reasons that might even be surprising. And vital. And in fact, it just might be that the fact we’ve been told to ignore so much of this, and particularly when YHVH says otherwise, that gives us every reason to look deeper. The Erev Shabbat reading lays out the details of exactly what the cohenim, those who follow the sons of Aaron, were told to do, and how: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/SSM-4-15-26-Emor-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3 But that is just the start. The parsha also includes some other things, like particularly the “appointed times of YHVH,” that “make the case” so dramatically: If we can’t tell a “real priest,” or cohen, from the fakes that claim to replace them, how can we expect to recognize a fake prophet? Or, more importantly, a fake messiah, or ‘christ.’ After all, Yahushua Himself warned us against exactly that! Parashat Emor [Leviticus 21-24] contains laws about the כהנים [kohanim, priests] [chapters 21-22, the holidays [chapter 23], and a miscellanea of laws [chapter 24], which includes one of the few events in Leviticus, that of the blasphemer. We focused on the holidays, in part because chapter 23 is read on the 1st two days of Sukkot and the 2nd day of Passover, in addition to the weekly reading. Because the holidays are observed differently in Israel, which lacks a second day of יום טוב [yom tov, holiday], it is only read additionally on the 1st day of Sukkot. There is a lot to say about the holidays, so the time was filled quickly, despite a technical difficulty early on in the show. We ask your forgiveness. Shabbat Shalom!

This week's Torah portion is known as Behar–Bechukotai and covers Leviticus 25:1–27:34. These are the final two Torah portions in the book of Leviticus. In Leviticus 25, the concept of the Jubilee is introduced as the ultimate expression of God's sovereignty over the land and time. It functions as a “super-Sabbath,” occurring after seven cycles of seven years.Moses instructs the nation to count off seven cycles of sabbatical years—seven years seven times. In the fiftieth year, the people are to hallow the Year of Jubilee. During that year, on the Day of Atonement, a shofar is blown all across the land to announce the moment of redemption. The Jubilee year is defined by three primary mandates that reset the economic and social structure of Israelite society. The most significant aspect of the Jubilee is the restoration of property. In the biblical framework, land could not be sold permanently. Instead, it was leased based on the number of years remaining until the next Jubilee. Families who sold their land due to poverty or debt received it back. The practice reinforced the idea that the land belongs to God. The Israelites were merely tenants or stewards of his property. Any Israelite who had sold himself into servitude to pay off debts was set free. These individuals were permitted to return to their ancestral clans and their own family land. The Jubilee transformed the concept of “ownership” into “stewardship.”AskSupport the showConsider donating (one-time or recurring) to www.TheJerusalemConnection.us so we can continue to bring valuable content via podcasts free to the public. A serene Shabbat in the Judean Desert is suddenly interrupted by a moment that reflects the reality of life in Israel today where even a distant paraglider can trigger memories of October 7th and the ongoing war. Beneath the tension and uncertainty, a deeper spiritual story is unfolding. This episode explores the inner dimension of the times we're living through, and how the mitzvah of the Counting of the Omer offers a path to transformation, clarity, and connection with Hashem. In this teaching: A personal story that captures the emotional reality of Israel right now The lasting impact of October 7th and the ongoing multi-front war Why counting the Omer is described as “for yourselves” The connection between the Manna in the wilderness and the Omer offering Gratitude as the foundation for spiritual growth and receiving the Torah The journey from Passover (freedom) to Shavuot (purpose) The 7 Divine attributes and a practical framework for inner refinement This is more than a weekly teaching—it's a guide for navigating uncertainty with faith, and for using this sacred time of the Omer to grow into who you're meant to be. In this episode on Parshas Emor, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the spiritual themes of holiness and continuity. He highlights Pesach Sheni (14 Iyar) as Hashem's gift of second chances for those who were impure or too far to bring the Korban Pesach on 14 Nisan — teaching that it's never too late to correct course, reconnect with Hashem, and fulfill mitzvos. The parsha also introduces the Omer count, beginning “the day after Shabbos” (Mimacharas HaShabbos), not a fixed calendar date. This emphasizes carrying Pesach's holiness and emunah forward — the inspiration doesn't end when Pesach does; it infuses the coming weeks until Shavuot, like helium sustaining a balloon if we don't let it leak.Rabbi Wolbe stresses intentional living: infuse every mitzvah with passion so its effect lasts the full year. Just as Shabbos carries into the week (Mimacharas HaShabbos), Pesach's redemption should propel us toward receiving the Torah. Customs like eating leftover matzah on Pesach Sheni and omitting Tachanun reinforce this continuity. The message: never despair — Hashem always offers renewal, and we must keep the spiritual “helium” flowing through consistent avodah._____________This episode of the Parsha Review Podcast is dedicated in honor of Lenny & Teresa FriedmanDownload & Print the Parsha Review Notes:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ncaRyoH5iJmGGoMZs9y82Hz2ofViVouv?usp=sharingRecorded at TORCH Meyerland in the Levin Family Studios (B) to a live audience on May 1, 2026, in Houston, Texas.Released as Podcast on May 1, 2026_____________Subscribe: Apple Podcasts (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/parsha-review-podcast-rabbi-aryeh-wolbe/id1651930083)Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/22lv1kXJob5ZNLaAl6CHTQ) to stay inspired! Share your questions at awolbe@torchweb.org or visit torchweb.org for more Torah content.  _____________About the Host:Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe, Director of TORCH in Houston, brings decades of Torah scholarship to guide listeners in applying Jewish wisdom to daily life.  To directly send your questions, comments, and feedback: awolbe@torchweb.org_____________Support Our Mission:Help us share Jewish wisdom globally by sponsoring an episode at torchweb.org. Shabbos can be the best day of the week and still feel strangely… normal. If we're honest, routine can flatten holiness, and “been there, done that” can sneak into a mitzvah that is supposed to reshape our entire week. We want to bring Shabbos back, not as a vague self-care day, but as a Mikra Kodesh: a day that stands out so clearly you can't confuse it with the other six.We start with a provocative contrast from Parshas Emor: the Jewish calendar and the festivals are sanctified through Beis Din and witnesses, a breathtaking partnership where humans help set sacred time. But Shabbos is different. Shabbos is fixed by Hashem from creation. That raises the real question: if we don't “declare” Shabbos into existence, what does the Torah mean when it calls Shabbos a Mikra Kodesh? From there we dig into Onkelos and the Ramban. Onkelos frames Mikra Kodesh as ma'ora kadesh, a holy happening that befalls you. The Ramban explains mikra as a summons, a calling forward to assemble yourself for holiness. Then we bring it down to earth with halacha and practical Shabbos preparation: changing clothing, upgrading food and drink, setting the table, building a clean and calm home, marking the day with songs, meals, learning, and Havdalah. We also share a powerful story about a father whose joy at the Shabbos table becomes the definition of what a “remarkable” home can look like.If you've been craving a more meaningful Shabbos experience, press play and choose one change to try this week. This week's Torah portion is known as Emor—which means “speak”—and it covers Leviticus 21:1–24:23. The counting of the Omer began on April 2 and will end on May 21. For the Jewish people, the goal of counting the Omer is to become a vessel ready to be filled by God's holy law. For the Christian, we can also count the Omer as we retrace the life of our messiah Jesus from his death, resurrection, and the outpouring of the Spirit. Right now, at this moment, on Day 29 of the Omer, the disciples were still learning at the feet of Jesus. What Jesus did for his followers during those days is the goal of Bible Fiber. He sat with them, and “beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures” (Luke 24:27).  By prayer and study, I suggest that we all retrace the steps from Egypt to Sinai and from the resurrection to Pentecost.JerusalemConnectionSupport the showConsider donating (one-time or recurring) to www.TheJerusalemConnection.us so we can continue to bring valuable content via podcasts free to the public. The Priests are the noblest amongst us, direct descendants of Aaron, the legendary first priest. They have a very important role to play amongst their people. They have a special blessing that they can bestow upon the people, and they can process sacrifices on our behalf in the Temple. They are spiritual leaders of men. With this role of distinction come certain restrictions: who they can marry, who they can come into contact with. They are forbidden to come into contact with the dead. They are forbidden to be in the same enclosure as a dead body, but it is certainly a worthwhile exchange. In this very sharp Parsha podcast, we contrast the beginning of the parsha with its end. Although most of us are not priests, the lessons that we learn are very pertinent to all and very powerful. – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –This Parsha Podcast is dedicated by Melissa Johnson in loving memory of her great-great-grandmother Rebecca Stremovsky-Weinman. Humans have a very important role to play in God's world. The Almighty created a world in which He is obfuscated. It is possible to live a whole life without acknowledging the one, singular reality of existence: God. The world was designed with the capacity for that reality being ignored. But we are here to change that. Our national mission is to sanctify the name of God - to publicize His existence and Dominion. That is the mission that Abraham embarked upon and that is what we have been dedicated towards ever since. This requirement - to sanctify the Name of God and not to, Heaven forbid, desecrate it - is featured in our Parsha and is a central element of our religion. But how exactly do we sanctify God's name? What can we do practically to publicize the name of God, to change the trajectory of the world? In this parsha, and in this this very fascinating (if lengthy) Parsha podcast, we discover some very interesting and powerful answers.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –DONATE: Please consider supporting the podcasts by making a donation to help fund our Jewish outreach and educational efforts at https://www.torchweb.org/support.php. The month of Iyar is uniquely defined by the mitzvah of counting the Omer, which creates a state of total alignment where every day becomes equally holy. Spiritual growth moves through three phases—initial rescue from above (Nissan), active refinement of the animal soul's passions (Iyar), and ultimate integration with the Divine (Sivan). The halachic nature of counting Sefira reveals that even if our current efforts feel limited, they possess the unique power to build the reality of the future redemption. This class, taught by Rabbi Shais Taub, is based on Parshas Emor in Likkutei Sichos Vol. 1.

Live Kabbalah – Weekly Zohar Study

How can we protect ourselves in times of uncertainty and instability? How can we attract abundance into our lives from the source of blessings? "After the Tsimtsum and the Curtain that was placed on the desire to receive, it was disqualified from being a vessel for the Light, and it was removed from the system of Kedushah, and in its place the Returning Light (the light of love for others and giving) serves as a vessel for abundance..." (Talmud Eser HaSefirot, Part 1, Inner Reflection, Chapter 4) The grace of the Cohen gives each of us the ability to build a sustainable vessel for abundance, protection, certainty, and healing. What if the holidays are less about remembering—and more about connecting? In this episode, Zvi Hirschfield and Rabbi Rafael Polisuk explore Parshat Emor and the meaning of sacred time. Focusing on the idea of moed, they suggest that holidays are not only about remembering the past, but about creating moments of connection. The conversation invites us to see these days as opportunities to come together and encounter something deeper.
