Shelf Life - 7-19 - The Pastor of Kilsyth When we talk about Scotland's Reformation and journey into freedom, names like John Knox, Richard Cameron and Thomas Chalmers easily come to mind. No doubt, they were mighty men of God called and chosen to serve as men who ushered the nation into a greater place of blessing. A reality that changed the world. But have you ever wondered about the pastors who filled the pulpits of the land? The army of men whose “common place” ministries were the meat and drink of parishes of Caledonia? Join Dr. Grant as he introduces you to The Pastor of Kilsyth by Islay Burns, a behind the scenes look into the ordinary ministry of a typical servant of God in Scotland - the spiritual boots on the ground. This look into the ministry of a “common pastor” is nothing short of extraordinary.
We explore the story behind a secret burial at dead of night. The deceased young man was only 30 years old but his brief life is worth remembering and some of his dying words retain a unique power. It was the field preacher John Welwood, and he left an abiding influence on another young man Richard Cameron.

DEAD POETS SOCIETY—arguably our own favorite film, most definitely our "sentimental" choice if under the gun—is the pick of our dear old friend Sean Hansen, who stopped by to discuss his love of the film... and had his MIND BLOWN about 12 minutes in when we revealed to him that we'd somehow managed to get three key members of the beloved cast (in the form of Gale Hansen, Allelon Ruggiero, and Dylan Kussman—Charlie "Nuwanda" Dalton, Stephen Meeks, and Richard Cameron respectively, LEGENDS in our minds) to pop in and surprise him. Then we hit him with a haymaker suckerpunch in the last 15 minutes of regulation when none other than the man from whose brain this beautiful film was wrought joined the fray: Oscar-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman! As much as we like to think of ourselves as men of integrity, in the spirit of Mr. Keating's message of non-conformity and questioning authority we blew right past the buzzer for an EPIC 2+ hours of Dead Poets Society Mini-Reunion! Secrets will be revealed, myths will be busted, the marrow will be sucked from life! Originally aired on YouTube on February 22, 2021.
Richard Cameron was a man. He was a lion. And, without a doubt, he was no fool.
Gavin Newsom is an enemy of the people. Psalms are warfare. Richard Cameron is the Lion of the Covenant. Noah Burchard has chops. Tithing is required. Taxation in contemporary America is theft.

Jimmy Fisher is back with Matthew Vogan and they're in Douglas, Lanarkshire where the statue of James, Earl of Angus points the way to the location where the Cameronian Regiment first mustered on May 14th, 1689. The Regiment was made up of followers of the Covenanter, Richard Cameron. Jimmy recalls the role that 900 Cameronians played just a few months later on on August 21st, 1689 at the Battle of Dunkeld, defending the Perthshire town against 4000 - 5000 Jacobites (about a month after the Battle of Killiecrankie). The defeat of the Jacobites at Dunkeld put an end to the first Jacobite Rising. To dig deeper, visit ScotlandsForgottenHistory.com
