See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Louis Ruggiero grew up in New York City with privilege and connections — his mother, Rosanna Scotto, is a famous Fox News anchor, and his father is an attorney. But behind the perfect image, Louis was spiraling into addiction. College introduced him to Xanax, which quickly led to harder drugs, arrests, and trouble that was often swept away by his family's influence. His life took a shocking turn when a close friend confessed a murder to him, forcing Louis to testify in a high-profile trial. In this interview, Louis reveals his struggles with drugs, what it was like to be caught up in a murder case, and how he's working to turn his life around. #LouisRuggiero #RosannaScotto #AddictionRecovery #MurderTrial #DrugAddiction #NYCStories #TrueCrimePodcast #lockedinpodcast Connect with Louis Ruggiero: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@NothingsOffTheTable Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nothingsoffpod/?hl=en TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nothingsoffpod Website: https://linktr.ee/nothingsoffthetable Hosted, Executive Produced & Edited By Ian Bick: https://www.instagram.com/ian_bick/?hl=en https://ianbick.com/ Presented by Tyson 2.0 & Wooooo Energy: https://tyson20.com/ https://woooooenergy.com/ Use code LOCKEDIN for 20% OFF Wooooo Energy Buy Merch: http://www.ianbick.com/shop Timestamps: 00:00 A Dark Confession and Introduction 00:52 Meet Lewis: Background and Podcast 02:26 Twelve Years of Chaos 03:03 Growing Up Privileged in New York 04:42 Life with a Famous Mother 06:26 Spotlight Pressure and Acting Out 08:18 Rebellion and Early Signs 10:24 Parents' Presence and Family Dynamics 11:37 The Straight-Laced Sister 12:29 Making Amends and Lifelong Change 13:10 Hazy Future Plans and Pressure 14:31 High School Troubles and Africa Experience 16:03 Xanax: The Real Start of Addiction 17:56 Family History and the Addictive Personality 18:33 Barstar: College, Drugs, and Escalation 19:23 Interventions and Denial 20:54 Deceit, Probation, and Court-Ordered Programs 23:18 A Violent Encounter and New Addictions 24:22 Losing Friends and Facing the Law 26:06 White Privilege and Justice 27:41 Revolving Door of Addiction and Jail 28:58 Relapse and Deeper Descent 30:32 Confession of a Murder 35:01 After the Confession: Investigation and Fallout 39:05 Rock Bottom and Family Intervention 41:03 Rehab, FBI Subpoena, and Trial 44:52 Testifying in a Murder Case 47:56 Staying Sober Through Chaos 48:55 Falling Back and the Battle for Sobriety 49:54 Daily Recovery Work and Lasting Change 51:01 Living Amends and Generational Healing 54:05 Enabling, Gambling, and Hard Lessons 57:04 Gambling: Vegas, Apps, and Addiction 01:00:32 Reflection: Parental Trust and Actions 01:03:32 Integrity, Character, and Redemption 01:05:00 Advice to My Younger Self 01:05:16 Wrapping Up and Looking Ahead Powered by: Just Media House : https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Creative direction, design, assets, support by FWRD: https://www.fwrd.co Learn more about your ad choices. The AI revolution has arrived, but fire safety engineers face a critical dilemma: how to leverage powerful AI tools while protecting confidential project data. Professor Ruggiero Rino Lovreglio from Massey University and Dr. Amir Rafe from Utah State University join us to explore the world of local Large Language Models (LLMs) - AI systems you can run privately on your own computer without sending sensitive information to the cloud. While cloud-based AI like ChatGPT raises serious privacy concerns (as Sam Altman recently admitted, user prompts could be surrendered to courts if requested), local models offer a secure alternative that doesn't compromise confidentiality. We break down things you should know about setting up your own AI assistant: from hardware requirements and model selection to fine-tuning for fire engineering tasks. Our guests explain how even models with "just" a few billion parameters can transform your workflow while keeping your data completely private. They share their groundbreaking work developing specialized fire engineering datasets and testing these tools on real-world evacuation problems. The conversation demystifies technical concepts like parameters, temperature settings, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and fine-tuning - making them accessible to engineers without computer science backgrounds. Most importantly, we address why fire engineering remains resilient to AI takeover (with only a 19% risk of automation) while exploring how these tools can enhance rather than replace human expertise.Whether you're AI-curious or AI-skeptical, this episode provides practical insights for integrating these powerful tools into your engineering practice without compromising the confidentiality that defines professional work. Download Ollama today and take your first steps toward a more efficient, AI-augmented engineering workflow that keeps your data where it belongs - on your computer.Further reading: https://ascelibrary.org/doi/abs/10.1061/9780784486191.034Ollama: https://ollama.com/Hugging face: https://huggingface.co/Rino's Youtube with guide videos: https://www.youtube.com/@rinoandcaroline----The Fire Science Show is produced by the Fire Science Media in collaboration with OFR Consultants. Class Meets Land: The Embodied History of Land Financialization (University of California Press, 2024) by Dr. Maria Kaika & Dr. Luca Ruggiero reveals something seemingly counterintuitive: that nineteenth-century class struggles over land are deeply implicated in the transition to twenty-first-century financial capitalism. Challenging our understanding of land financialization as a recent phenomenon propelled by high finance, Dr. Kaika and Dr. Ruggiero foreground 150 years of class struggle over land as a catalyst for assembling the global financial constellation. Narrating the close-knit histories of industrial land, industrial elites, and the working class, the authors offer a novel understanding of land financialization as a “lived” process: the outcome of a relentless, socially embodied historical unfolding, in which shifts in land's material, economic, and symbolic roles impact both local everyday lives and global capital flows. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. Pete Ruggiero, President and Chief Executive Officer of Crayola, joined Jamie Flinchbaugh on the People Solve Problems podcast to share insights about leadership, culture, and the transformation of an iconic brand. With over 27 years at Crayola, Pete has helped evolve the company from a seasonal back-to-school business focused on crayons, markers, and pencils to a year-round enterprise centered on products, content, and experiences. Pete emphasized the importance of perpetual optimism in leadership, citing Colin Powell's observation that "perpetual optimism is a force multiplier." He explained how this mindset has been crucial in driving Crayola's growth and diversification strategy. The company now aims to inspire creative moments globally, recognizing that 97% of the world's children live outside North America, representing a significant opportunity for expansion. The conversation highlighted Pete's approach to building a strong culture through five key elements: bias for action, collaboration, celebration of successes, perpetual optimism, and celebrating problems. He shared how making problems visible and addressing them openly has transformed the company's ability to improve continuously. This shift from hiding issues to celebrating their discovery has become a cornerstone of Crayola's culture. Pete discussed the evolution of Crayola's business model, including the launch of their "stay creative" campaign, which addresses the fact that while 90% of parents and teachers believe creativity is important, many struggle to incorporate it into children's daily lives. He also touched on the success of the Crayola Experience locations and the company's expansion into media through Crayola Studios. The discussion revealed Pete's personal leadership journey, from his beginnings as a CPA at Deloitte to his current role as CEO. He shared valuable advice for aspiring leaders, emphasizing the importance of saying yes to opportunities and being willing to learn continuously. Pete recalled how his transition from finance to operations taught him the value of connecting with employees on the factory floor and implementing their ideas, some of which had been waiting decades to be heard. He also highlighted Crayola's commitment to community service, noting that employees contributed 14,000 hours of volunteerism and $1.5 million to United Way in the previous year. This dedication to community impact aligns with the broader mission of Crayola's parent company, Hallmark, to improve the communities where they operate. Redreaming the Renaissance: Essays on History and Literature in Honor Guido Ruggiero (University of Delaware Press, 2024) seeks to remedy the dearth of conversations between scholars of history and literary studies by building on the pathbreaking work of Guido Ruggiero to explore the cross-fertilization between these two disciplines, using the textual world of the Italian Renaissance as proving ground. In this volume, these disciplines blur, as they did for early moderns, who did not always distinguish between the historical and literary significance of the texts they read and produced. Literature here is broadly conceived to include not only belles lettres, but also other forms of artful writing that flourished in the period, including philosophical writings on dreams and prophecy; life-writing; religious debates; menu descriptions and other food writing; diaries, news reports, ballads, and protest songs; and scientific discussions. The twelve essays in this collection examine the role that the volume's dedicatee has played in bringing the disciplines of history and literary studies into provocative conversation, as well as the methodology needed to sustain and enrich this conversation. Benjamin "Lefty" Ruggiero was a soldier in the Bonanno crime family who became infamously entangled in one of the most significant undercover operations in FBI history. Born and raised in Manhattan's Little Italy, Ruggiero was drawn into the Mafia's world from an early age, quickly rising through the ranks due to his loyalty, proficiency in violence, and adherence to the Mafia code of omertà. He was heavily involved in loansharking and illegal gambling, becoming a trusted associate of Dominick "Sonny Black" Napolitano. Ruggiero's close relationship with undercover FBI agent Joseph D. Pistone, who infiltrated the Mafia under the alias "Donnie Brasco," ultimately led to his downfall. Unaware of Brasco's true identity, Ruggiero vouched for him and introduced him to the family's inner workings, unwittingly providing the FBI with invaluable intelligence. When Brasco's true identity was revealed, Ruggiero faced severe repercussions from the Mafia, was arrested, and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He remained loyal to the Mafia code until his death from lung cancer in 1994, symbolizing a tragic adherence to a life that ultimately betrayed him.(commercial at 8:34)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com
