Show DescriptionThe Zero Day Clock is ticking — and the numbers should make every security leader uncomfortable. In this episode, I sit down with Sergej Epp, CISO at a leading security firm, who built the Zero Day Clock after a weekend experiment using AI to discover vulnerabilities firsthand. What he found shocked him: with no professional vulnerability research background and just a few hours of work, he was successfully finding zero days across major security projects using AI models and basic scaffolding.Sergej breaks down his concept of the "Verifier's Law" — the idea that offense has the cheapest verifier in cybersecurity because feedback is binary and instant (you either popped a shell or you didn't), while defense operates in a space where validation is expensive, ambiguous, and slow. We dig into what this asymmetry means for the industry, why 20 years of warnings from Ross Anderson, Bruce Schneier, Halvar Flake, and others have gone unheeded, and whether coordinated disclosure models are broken now that AI can reverse engineer a patch into a working exploit in minutes. We also discuss the tension between regulation and deregulation playing out in the U.S. and EU, why the answer might be outcome-based accountability rather than prescriptive compliance, and what a realistic defensible posture actually looks like when the mean time to exploit for actively exploited vulnerabilities is under two days — while most organizations are still operating on 30-day patch cycles.Show NotesSergej shares how a weekend AI experiment led him to discover multiple zero days across major security projects with no professional vulnerability research experience — and why that should alarm the entire industryThe "Verifier's Law" explained: offense has cheap, deterministic validators (pop a shell, exfiltrate data, trigger an XSS) while defense faces expensive, ambiguous validation (parsing SIM alerts, measuring security posture), giving AI-accelerated offense a structural advantageThe Zero Day Clock synthesizes 3,500+ CVE-exploit pairs and shows the mean time to exploit for actively exploited vulnerabilities is now under two days — while organizations still operate on 14-to-30-day patch cycles20 years of ignored warnings: from Ross Anderson's 2001 economics paper through Bruce Schneier, Halvar Flake's "the patch is the advisory" insight, and DARPA's Cyber Grand Challenge — the industry has consistently failed to act on clear signalsAI can now reverse engineer patches to identify underlying flaws and generate working exploits in minutes, potentially breaking coordinated disclosure models and compressing the window between patch release and active exploitation to near zeroThe regulation paradox: the EU risks overregulating AI in ways that hamper defenders while attackers face no such constraints, while the U.S. is pushing deregulation that may remove the only forcing function for vendor accountability — Sergej and Chris discuss outcome-based regulation as a potential middle pathDefenders have a data advantage: by understanding their own environments, infrastructure, and processes, security teams can detect AI-driven attacks through behavioral anomalies like hallucinated API calls, non-existent user accounts, and other artifacts of AI-generated attack playbooksThe Zero Day Clock's real power is as a board-level communication tool — a single slide that translates the patching gap into a number executives and policymakers can't ignore, shifting the conversation from "are we compliant?" to "are we fast enough?"
Sim, senhoras e senhores, chegou a hora do Oscar!
When "Cloud-Only" Starts to Crack: Costs, Control, AI Risks, and Hybrid Reality The hosts discuss an AI-suggested topic: why "cloud-only" thinking is cracking, focusing on broken cost predictability from usage-based pricing, vendor lock-in and loss of control, latency and dependency on internet uptime, and growing compliance and data-residency pressures. They explore how AI increases data exposure risk while also driving demand for integrations like Copilot and Gemini, debate ethical/environmental concerns and whether banning AI would matter, and note AI may reduce support work while increasing competition. They argue hybrid setups are becoming a practical middle ground, enabled by smaller local hardware like Mac minis. They also cover new Apple Magic Mouse and keyboard purchases, announce the UniFi Cloud Gateway Industrial (high-power PoE and SIM slot features), promote ACES 2026 with code CCP, and describe difficulty playing a purchased MP4 on Apple TV due to AirPlay audio dropouts. 00:00 Show Kickoff 00:40 Cloud Costs Rising 04:57 AI Data Exposure 08:34 Ethics And Environment 13:22 Jobs And Competition 15:42 Latency And Outages 18:26 Vendor Control Drift 23:15 Hybrid Middle Ground 24:34 Compliance And Risk 27:20 How We Use AI 31:49 AI Hits Support Work 32:21 Apple AI Troubleshooting Vision 34:16 Staying Valuable Beyond AI 35:29 New Magic Mouse Setup 37:50 Fixing Accidental Gestures 40:45 UCG Industrial Gateway 41:43 Starlink Mini Power Options 45:42 Remote SIM And WiFi 7 47:09 ACEs 2026 And Discount 48:23 MP4 To Apple TV Struggles 51:47 Wrap Up And Thanks
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim falsely claimed Councillor Sean Orr distributed drugs on Christmas Day. Sim issued an apology Tuesday, promising statements to the media organizations present, but OMNI and Fairchild TV News confirmed they never received them, despite the mayor's office saying they were sent. 62% of Canadians believe MPs shouldn't be allowed to switch parties after an election, and ~70% say floor-crossing should trigger an immediate byelection McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski posted a video eating the new Big Arch burger, which went viral because he barely took a bite and awkwardly called it a "product". Send a textIn this episode of Marketing Espresso, I'm joined once again by the brilliant Simran Kaur, and we dive straight into one of the biggest misconceptions in the business world: the idea that leads alone will fix everything. It's the belief so many business owners cling to — that more leads mean more revenue, more stability and more growth. But as Sim and I unpack, that thinking completely overlooks how marketing actually works.Sim talks about leads from a full-funnel perspective, and why so many people obsess over the bottom of the funnel while ignoring the work that needs to happen long before someone is ready to buy. If you're only focused on the moment a person enquires, you're missing the bigger picture entirely. Awareness, consideration, education and brand memory are the building blocks that lead to strong conversions, and yet those pieces are often skipped because they take time and don't deliver instant gratification. We also explore the impatience that so many business owners are feeling. Social media has created a culture where people expect immediate ROI, instant sales and fast results — but marketing isn't designed to move at that pace. And when you're changing your message every week, pivoting constantly or rewriting your offer every time you feel bored, you're not speeding things up. You're restarting the clock. Every shift resets your momentum, and the market barely has a chance to understand what you do before you've already changed direction.Sim and I share real-life examples of why brand building and consistent storytelling make such a significant difference to long-term growth. People buy emotionally, even when they think they don't. A smell, a memory, a jingle, a feeling — these are the tiny cues that sit in our subconscious and influence what we pick up off a shelf or who we choose to trust online. AI can support our work, but it will never replace emotional nuance. It can't read body language, interpret subtle meaning or understand why certain phrases make people sit up straighter in their chair. And that's why strategy always needs humans behind it.This conversation is really a reminder that marketing is a long game. It's strategic. It's layered. It's about earning trust over time rather than hunting for a quick win. When you build a strong brand, the right leads show up — and not just in volume, but in quality. Those are the leads that convert with ease because the groundwork has already been done.DOWNLOAD MY CONTENT PLANNER - https://becchappell.com.au/content-planner/Instagram @bec_chappellLinkedIn – Bec Chappell If you're ready to work together, I'm ready to work with you and your team. How to work with me:1.
In this extended roundtable discussion, Buddy Woodberry, Ross, and Bracken Gittins explore the evolving world of GPS tracking systems for houndsmen. The conversation centers around real-world use, field expectations, and what serious dog hunters actually need from their equipment. They discuss user experience and interface design, map responsiveness, screen navigation, and how handheld performance matters in high-pressure moments. The group also raises broader questions about training philosophy, tone versus stimulation use, and how correction timing can impact dogs with different temperaments. Other topics include tracking reliability in rough terrain, antenna performance, battery life in changing weather conditions, compass accuracy, geofencing capabilities, app integration, and the role of SIM or cellular connectivity. They also consider practical concerns like sharing tracking information between hunters, managing multiple dogs, and how systems perform when pushed under real hunting conditions. Throughout the episode, the focus remains on thoughtful evaluation rather than brand loyalty.

Shenzhen-based Transsion Holdings is now a massive Chinese technology company that few people outside of Africa and certain parts of Asia have heard of. Even in China, the brand, now the world's 5th-largest mobile phone producer, remains largely unknown. Transsion gained notoriety after it entered the African market in 2006. Back then, the world's largest phone brands all but ignored African consumers, selling low-end, late-model devices designed primarily for Western and Asian consumers. The Chinese company saw an opportunity and tweaked the software on its phones to optimize photos for darker skin tones, and added a suite of features like dual SIM cards, dustproofing, and longer battery life to sell sub-$100 phones to Africa's booming youth market. That formula worked, and the company's three brands, Tecno, Infinix, and iTel, have dominated the market for more than a decade. But little is known about how Transsion achieved its success in Africa. Lu Miao, an assistant professor at Lingnan University in Hong Kong, joins Eric & Cobus to lay out the company's strategy and why it was so effective in a market that others largely ignored.
# What happens when a relationship ends but the bond behaves as if it never did? After Valentine's Day, Observador Paranormal examines spiritual attachments, paranormal relationship bonds, and the darker side of “forever” promises. The hosts describe how fixation, unresolved grief, and toxic dynamics can evolve into a sustained mental-emotional loop that feels present in waking life, sometimes escalating into reported sensory intrusions, sleep paralysis, bruises, scratches, choking sensations, and disturbances witnessed by partners or family members. They draw a clear boundary for responsible discussion: start with clinical screening and mental health support, then look for externally verifiable elements before labeling anything paranormal. The episode revisits the Doris Bither case and how investigator focus on the phenomenon can unintentionally reinforce the bond if the person's emotional loop remains intact. They also discuss 20th-century “Ghost Lover Syndrome” narratives and a contemporary case in which a deceased ex-partner's jealousy appears to sabotage a new relationship. The takeaway is practical and evergreen: reclaim attention, reduce rumination, move your body, rebuild routines, and practice internal closure even when the other person refuses to provide a clean ending. CHAPTERS / TIMESTAMPS 00:10 Content warning and episode opening 00:40 Love, friendship, expectations, and disappointment around “special dates” 02:04 Reframing Valentine's Day and why it can feel heavy 03:14 What a spiritual attachment is and why it may be more common than assumed 04:53 Attachments, intrusive thoughts, and why third-party verification matters 07:37 Mental health first: when to rule out clinical causes before paranormal claims 09:14 Grief, vulnerability, and how memory can reinforce an atemporal bond 13:43 Practical tools: stay occupied, walk, move, and interrupt rumination 16:40 The Doris Bither case: context, investigation, and how cycles can intensify 22:22 Ghost Lover Syndrome patterns: marks, bed pressure, and traumatic escalation 30:55 Humor vs. trauma: why people rarely talk about intense experiences 33:16 The Holly case: jealousy, attacks, and relationship sabotage after death 38:16 The residue of the bond: obsession, violence, and emotional cost 40:40 Closure and detachment: how to say goodbye internally without a final talk 43:20 Wrap-up and what's coming next FAQ What is a spiritual attachment? A persistent emotional-psychic bond people report as influencing thoughts, sleep, and sometimes physical or sensory experiences. Why focus on attention and rumination? Because sustained fixation can strengthen the emotional loop that keeps the bond feeling active. How do you separate mental health symptoms from a paranormal claim? Start with clinical evaluation and support; only then consider reports that include external corroboration. Why does walking or movement help? It disrupts rumination, regulates mood, and reduces isolation patterns that often intensify nighttime experiences. Can you get closure without speaking to the other person? Yes. Effective closure is internal: you detach inside, even if the other person won't cooperate. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. I've got three guests that I will be interviewing separately about their experiences with solo travel. Our first guest is Jackie Norris, who we met on one of our episodes. She is the host of Traveling Jackie and The Budget-Minded Traveler and has been traveling solo for a long time. She has a ton of insights to share with us. When I interviewed her in Quebec, I asked her casually about solo travel. We got so engrossed in it that I decided to take that section of our interview and add it to this solo episode. Our other guests are Monica and Jason. I'll let them introduce themselves. Let's start with my interview with Jackie. Jackie Norris Interview Kit: Jackie, why do you travel solo? Jackie: The reason I do solo travel is that I'm solo. I don't let that stop me. For years and years, a lot of people struggle with the idea of getting out on their own. It's a necessity for me. It's what I have to do, and so I do it. I never thought I would enjoy it, but I do love it now. You have to get to a point where you're comfortable with it. I'd already been traveling for a number of years by the time I went fully solo nomadic a few years ago. Even after that much time of being comfortable traveling, it was weird to be on my own all the time. For the cons, you are by yourself. All of those travel decisions are made only by you. Even where you're going to eat for breakfast or whether you're going to get a beer in the afternoon—everything is solely up to you. There's no one you can confer with. That also happens to be one of the advantages. Sometimes it depends on which perspective you have. Maybe it depends on the day. Sometimes it's amazing, and sometimes you wish there was someone there. Loneliness is a real thing. I have written about that before, and most solo travelers will face real loneliness. It's not just the point of being solo in a place—it's feeling alone. There's a big difference, and that can get to you if it lasts a while. I traveled for months at a time, and it can get draining to be alone. At the same time, this is where I am in my life, and this is what I'm signing up for. This is also my work, and this is what I'm choosing to do. It's part of the territory if you look at it that way. The freedom that solo travel provides is unmatched. There is a feeling that comes with being on your own in some far-flung corner of the planet, completely left to yourself and your own thoughts. What you want to do for the day—everything is your will. It is the most freeing feeling ever. It's incredible. You can do whatever you want. There are definitely pros and cons of solo travel. I always encourage people to at least try it out because you get to know yourself very quickly. Even if you think you know yourself, you don't—not until you solo travel. You see what you're capable of and what your weaknesses are. It's an incredible tool for life to solo travel. Everyone should do it at least once. Kit: You had a quote in The Budget-Minded Traveler episode number 63 that I loved: "Lose yourself until you find yourself. " Could you talk a little bit about that? Jackie: It gave me chills when you read it. That came from a piece that I wrote on my Traveling Jackie blog. It was when I decided to leave everything behind and go out on my own to travel the world solo for real for the first time. This was many years after having traveled a whole bunch already and studying abroad and all that. This was different because I had a relationship, I had a house, and I had all these things. I felt very lost at times because I had to recreate what my life looked like. That was my moment to decide what my new normal was going to be going forward. I did lose part of myself there in a good way though. It's like you have to go see what the world has for you and then figure out what you look like in that new normal. Figure out what the path forward is in this new reality that you've created. That's at least how it applied to me. It depends on what your situation is and why you're choosing to solo travel. So much about experience outwardly when you travel has to do with what's going on inside. That was my experience at the time. I totally went out and lost myself until I started to rebuild and find what it meant to start over. Kit: It's obvious that travel in general and solo travel in particular changed your life.Jackie: I'm grateful for that because I feel so much surer of who I am. I'm so much stronger now. I have so much more confidence. These are the things that come with being on your own for so long in a place. It's not being on your own at home where you're comfortable and you know the name of the store owner down the street. Everything is different—foreign languages, foreign currency, borders, flights, hotels. Everything is a challenge. When you add that element to being completely on your own for a long time, maybe for the first time, it changes everything. Your personal growth is expedited more than anything. "The world outside of your comfort zone is not a place to invite fear. It's a place to invite curiosity. " Kit: Since I lost my husband, I've been traveling solo. The question I get over and over again is about safety. How do you deal with safety concerns? Jackie: Are you not afraid of those things at home? Bad things can happen anywhere. It doesn't matter where you are. In fact, the U.S. these days could be less safe than a lot of other places I travel. I don't dwell on that stuff. I have some tricks up my sleeve to make sure I'm safe and my belongings are safe. I pay attention. Common sense is your best defense. Don't leave your common sense behind when you walk out the door. Go explore the world outside your comfort zone. It's not about fear and safety—it's about adventure, life, growth, people, connection, culture, food, language, activity, and beauty. That outweighs the fear. Monica Aranguren Interview Kit: Can you introduce yourself and tell us your age? Monica: I'm Monica Aranguren, and I am 58 years old. Kit: How did you get into adventure travel? Monica: Quite honestly, I found myself single again around 2007 or 2008. I started hiking on my own. When I turned 50, I decided I wanted to do something bigger and planned a trip to New Zealand. Kit: Was that your first adventure trip? Monica: Yes. I didn't want to leave adventure behind. Kit: How did you make the mindset shift to go on your own?Monica: so I went. I've been independent all my life. I wasn't waiting for life to happen to me. I wanted to see these places, Kit: Did you go solo or with a company? Monica: The New Zealand trip was with Active Adventures. I've made many trips like that since. Solo travel lets you expand a little bit more in getting out of the box. You meet people you wouldn't meet otherwise. I don't really see many cons—except I always choose a single room so I can sleep! I've always felt safe. On guided trips, you're surrounded by your group. On self-guided trips, I had GPS, instructions, and 24-hour support. I always felt supported. Loneliness happens occasionally, especially on self-guided hikes, but overall it hasn't been an issue. It empowers me. When I get back, I think, "I did that. " That confidence carries into real life. Jason Waitkins Interview Kit: Can you introduce yourself? Jason: My name is Jason Waitkins, and I am 37. Kit: How did you get into adventure travel? Jason: My first trip was in 2003 to New Zealand. I wanted to hike. That was the driver. I grew up next to the Appalachian Trail and hiked sections near my home in the Hudson Valley. Solo travel is easier to coordinate. I go when I want. If no one else wants to go, I go anyway. Safety is always a consideration. I research countries, crime, and logistics. Awareness is key. I use common sense, just like I would anywhere else. I once got injured hiking solo in Acadia National Park and had to be carried out. That experience reinforced the value of group travel for certain adventures. Using tour companies removes logistical stress and adds safety. Solo travel hasn't dramatically changed who I am, but it keeps me going. I want to keep visiting places and hiking everywhere I can. Final Thoughts and Solo Travel RulesWhen I travel solo, I make rules for myself: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● I know where I'm staying by noon I arrive before dark I watch my food and drink I'm cautious of overly friendly strangers I use official taxis or rideshare services I trust my instincts I always have an exit plan Someone knows where I'm going If you're not sure solo travel is for you, try a weekend trip. Then try a week. Build confidence gradually. In all my travels, I've never had a serious incident. You heard the same from our guests. If you want to help shape future adventures, reach out to me by email or on social media. Until next time, this is Kit Parks—adventure on. (C) Active Travel Adventures, LLC - All Rights Reserved
