Host Edith welcomes editor Jennica Dotson to discuss how she became an editor through internships and on-the-job learning, and to explain the differences between developmental editing (big-picture plot, structure, character, and worldbuilding), line editing (stylistic, line-by-line refinement, often including some copy work), and copy editing (grammar, punctuation, and typos). Jennica recommends discovery calls, approaching editors with a completed draft, letting manuscripts rest, revising before line edits, and staying open to edits while keeping authorial voice. They discuss time pressures in traditional publishing, expectations for more polished submissions, and the importance of language consistency (American vs British English). Jennica shares why she specializes in fantasy, notes trends like romantasy and misclassification issues, highlights indie publishing's willingness to take risks, and describes how freelancers find clients through organizations and networking. Tonight on Thursday Thrills, we head into the woods for Siren Head, the internet urban legend that turns emergency sirens, storm warnings, distorted broadcasts, and lonely rural roads into pure nightmare fuel. Created by horror artist Trevor Henderson in 2018, Siren Head became a modern folklore icon through TikTok, YouTube shorts, indie horror games, fan stories, and creepypasta-style sightings. This show keeps the tone fun, spooky, and campfire-ready as we explore why a forty-foot siren-headed monster feels so strangely believable, how the legend spread online, why it connects to analog horror and emergency broadcast fears, and why the creature works best when it is half-glimpsed at the edge of a dark field. Is the siren warning you... or calling you closer?

Air Week: July 6-12, 2026 Parrot Records This week, “Juke In The Back” focuses on a tiny Chicago R&B record label with a big sound; Parrot Records. The label was started by Chicago DJ Al Benson in late 1952 and it closed its doors in 1956. During its period of operation, Parrot recorded some smokin’ R&B with Willie Mabon, Mabel Scott and J.B. Lenoir and smooth vocal group sounds from The Flamingos, the 5 Thrills and the Orchids. Matt The Cat highlights both the hits and misses and brings you the story behind the story on this often forgotten R&B label on “Juke In The Back.” LISTEN BELOW

Deep woods horror stories have taken over scary-story feeds for a reason: the wilderness is one of the last places where modern people can still feel completely outmatched. In this Thursday Thrills episode, Henrique takes a late-night car ride through supposedly firsthand camping, hiking, park ranger, cave, and backcountry accounts gathered from online folklore threads. These are not presented as verified cases; they are modern campfire stories - the kind people post after something in the woods, on the trail, or outside the tent refuses to leave their mind. From silent strangers at remote campsites to forests that suddenly go dead quiet, mountain lion instincts, bison breathing outside a tent, cave drummers, and Miniwashitu, the Missouri River Monster, this episode explores why wilderness horror remains so powerful.

This is the stuff of Late Night Horror... The Walt Disney cryogenic frozen conspiracy has haunted Disneyland lore for 60 years—but what if the real horror is how a debunked myth became immortal? Henrique Couto investigates the supernatural folklore behind the legend: the 1960s cryonics craze that made it plausible, the tabloid lies about secret chambers beneath Pirates of the Caribbean, and how Walt Disney's official biography unexpectedly breathed new life into the urban legend. A chilling true crime mystery of myth-making itself and how weird experiences can keep an idea alive.

Cryptid folklore and encounters shape regional identity across America. Why do certain monsters become inseparable from the places that claim them?In this Thursday Thrills episode, Henrique Couto explores how the Jersey Devil haunts the Pine Barrens, Mothman defines Point Pleasant, and the Chupacabra became a symbol of rural fear. Argentina's soccer star Lionel Messi had a match for the ages Tuesday night at Arrowhead as he started quickly with a goal that was taken away by an offside call. So he proceded to score three more! All three in the match to be accurate as Argentina and it's 50,000 or so fans at Arrowhead went wild watching a 3-0 win over Algeria. It was spectacular. But how many Kansas Citians were there remains a bit of a mystery and doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. KC residents turned out everywhere Tuesday for free fan events and watch parties and we're clearly finding our stride. There were shots of some empty seats at Arrowhead even though 500 million people were watching on tv globally, and a Sports Illustrated writer posted a screenshot from a ticket service two hours before the start that had tickets for $69. We cover all the stories, all over the country on today's episode. The Big 12's lawsuit filed against Ken Paxton and Texas Tech was just a stone cold killer. The suit had nothing to do with the gambling quarterback, wait until you hear what their rock star law firm dialed up for the conference. President Trump stars at the G7 and touts peace, low oil prices and a skyrocketing stock market. Then he just hammers Obama. JD Vance's book tour is not going well. It's not a disaster but I just don't understand what he's doing right now. The annual fast food customer service rankings are out and for the first time in over a decade, Chik Fil A is not the winner. And our Final Final is a new report on the astounding growth of podcast listening in America.
