Thrills in the Arctic: One Scientist's Deadly Mission with Author Brooke L French

Online For Authors Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 19, 2025 25:46

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Brooke L French, author of the book Unnatural Intent. Brooke L. French is a recovering lawyer turned writer who lives with her husband and sons in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. She spends most of her days gleefully researching and writing about fatal viruses, terrorism, and murder. Brooke is likely on numerous watch lists.   In my book review, I stated Unnatural Intent is a thriller that kept my pulse racing. From the first chapter where we meet killer polar bears to the end when we wonder if Letty will make it through the book alive, Brook had me hooked.   Letty is a field researcher which makes her as much a sleuth as a scientist. She also seems to ignore potential hazards and often finds herself on the wrong side of safety. I found myself both willing her to make it through any given scrape and yelling at her to make wiser decisions!   As a complete science nerd, I loved the science portion of this story. What happens if climate change does more than heat up the earth's surface? What if it changes animals and how they behave? What if new organisms evolve, and these organisms are deadly? What if these changes don't just happen to animals but also affect entire populations? And what is there is someone out there who doesn't want anyone to know about it?   If you like a book that you just can't put down, but one in which you have to put it down to catch your breath, then this is the book for you.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   Join the Novels N Latte Book Club community to discuss this and other books with like-minded readers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/3576519880426290   You can follow Author Brooke L French Website: www.brookelfrench.com IG: @brookelewisfrench FB: @brooke.l.french LinkedIn: @Brooke L French   Purchase Unnatural Intent on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/46glyBe Ebook: https://amzn.to/46glyBe   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? The setting for Dwyer Murphy's new book, “The House on Buzzards Bay,” is classic New England noir: A large and ancient house along the coast is inherited by protagonist Jim, who decides to use it to host his college friends for a summer reunion, hoping to reignite their bonds. But nothing is quite as it seems. Both the house and the group are out of sorts. One friend mysteriously disappears. The town deals with a series of break-ins. Jim starts to feel like the energy in the house is off — that the spiritualist camp that started the town never really left. And then an eerie stranger arrives. On this week's Big Books and Bold Ideas, Murphy joins host Kerri Miller to talk about what makes good noir and what inspired his book. Ghosts abound.Guest: Dwyer Murphy is the editor-in-chief of Lit Hub's Crime Reads and the author of the new novel “The House on Buzzards Bay.” Subscribe to the Thread newsletter for the latest book and author news and must-read recommendations.Subscribe to Big Books and Bold Ideas with Kerri Miller on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, RSS or anywhere you get your podcasts.

We kick things off with a dramatic finish to the MLB All-Star Game and a swing-off that has us wondering — should baseball lean into this format and ditch extra innings altogether? Leroy weighs in on the golf world's latest controversy after Wyndham Clark was reportedly banned from Oakmont for damaging his locker. Too harsh, or fair punishment? NFL tension brews as Tobin rants about the never-ending drama between Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft. You've got six Super Bowls — move on already! In Hour 2, Dolphins talk takes over. Is this the year Miami finally commits to the run game? Tobin and Leroy debate Mike McDaniel's pressure and expectations. Plus, UFC heat rises as Dustin Poirier's underdog status sparks a fiery back-and-forth. And in today's Mixed Bag: Kel'el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr. are poised for big development. Hour 3 brings a wild turn — Tobin goes off on Shams Charania after conflicting reports about Terry Rozier's involvement in the ongoing NBA betting investigation. Then it's time for "Rats Off a Ship" featuring LeBron's loyalty, Nick Cannon's love advice, and a bizarre Stanley Cup x Labubu collab. Finally, in Hour 4, the Panthers' schedule is out and Tobin is not happy with their 5 PM start. Breaking NBA news also drops: Bradley Beal is signing with the Clippers. Could LeBron be next to move... maybe to Miami? We wrap the show with Tobin and Leroy's U.S. Open golf picks.
