Today I talked with Rick Wilkes, from Thriving Now, about the use of emotional freedom techniques (EFT) to help us recover from a variety of psychological and physical issues, including pain, anxiety, phobias and weight control. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a form of psychological acupressure based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments but without the invasiveness of needles. In addition to explaining EFT, we go deep into how to use this powerful technique to shift our engrained thought patterns and behaviour. Often, we desire to make a change, and we genuinely believe we want to do this, but then we sabotage ourselves for various reasons. Rick takes us through some setup options; these begin with the statement “Even though I feel” and different closing options depending on the individual goals.I hope you find this episode helpful. There are many different techniques for mastering our thoughts and regulating our emotions. This one suits me and I find it very useful. We hope you enjoy this podcast and would love to hear your experiences. To learn more about Rick and his work check out his website at Thriving Now, where you can book a free 15 minute chat with Rick to find out more. https://www.thrivingnow.com/start/If you have any health topics you would like covered or questions answered, please email me at susan@susanbirch.co.nzYou can sign up for my newsletter to keep up-to-date with the content I am publishing, monthly blogs, and Q & A webinars with experts from around the world.https://mailchi.mp/61eb6eb3e0df/newsletter-signupYou will find my website with more information and free resources hereYou can follow me on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/thehealthdetectivenz

33% off Pain Relief Miracle Fear is one of our most primitive defense mechanisms. It is the reason that humans as a species exist. Our ability to notice danger and to feel are what keep us safe. The problem is that we don't live in the same world we did 10,000 years ago. We no longer need to be on guard at all times for fear of being eaten by wild animals. The way we feel fear has not evolved to match the world we live in. Because of this, our subconscious disposition is towards fear. This makes openness, connection, and love harder. This week I have a conversation with Rick Wilkes about fear, love, the primitive brain, and how we can use EFT to transform our daily experience to be filled with more love and more connection. Guest: Rick Wilkes, LMT Contact Info: thrivingnow.com, Rick@Thrivingnow.com, 1-828-357-4674 or 1-888-222-3856 Bio: Rick Wilkes is an EFT practitioner based in Asheville, NC. Over the last six years Rick has worked with more than 1500 clients. He works regularly with individuals and with his Thriving Now Groups. Here's what one of Rick's loyal clients says: “Working with Rick Wilkes both privately and on team calls has helped me greatly to release the past, move more confidently into the future, and mostly to be more joyfully present in the now. Rick’s open-hearted broader perspective, amazing intuition, and great sense of humor always help me to get right to the core and effectively reframe whatever issue I have. Listening to him work with others has helped me to get in touch with stuff I didn’t even know was there and inspired me in my own work with others. It is a blessing and honor to work with such a master.” Rick's articles, programs, and products Thriving Now

Rick Wilkes is an Emotional Freedom Coach who has been guiding people for over 23 years using energy healing and EFT Tapping and has worked with thousands of individuals. He blends a unique combination of body-centered and energetic approaches to activate authentic self-expression, personal power, calm confidence, and a warm sense of self-love in his clients. We discuss the fear of rejection, how to overcome it and expand your comfort zone. Rather than push yourself harshly, we speak of how to gently expand it, and listen to your body’s YES and NO’s.  Rick shares “We coach around helping people build enough resilience so they can be out in the world with real people, but also have healthy boundaries that say “ow, you didn’t like what I said? Ow I wasn’t saying it for you”. QUOTE: Many people that have gone through this kind of process (tapping) become much more confident than your average person because you’re building up your resilience. I always find my conversations with Rick Wilkes interesting. Of all of the interviews I do they tend to be the least planned because they are much more interesting conversations than they are traditional interviews. When I email Rick to see what he wanted to chat about this time he replied with the world "lovership". My first thought was, "That sounds great!” and then, “I have no idea what that means." When Rick uses the word lovership he is talking about how we create relationships (that aren't sexual) in a way that is open, transparent, and in congruence with the other person. It is somewhere between making choices out of obligation (saying yes or no without thought) and always saying yes to any request a friend has. It is a state of intentional friendship building. It is a great conversation that will help you to evaluate if your relationships are serving you.

We live in interesting times. Every morning when I wake up I am bombarded with friend requests, invitations to attend events, fund projects, and try new programs. At the exact same time it is possible for me to go through an entire day and not have one single profound connection with another person. In this conversation with Rick Wilkes we talk about how scary it can be to put yourself out in the world with the intention of making genuine connections when it feels like we will be judged. This is Rick's fourth appearance on the podcast. The reason I have him back so often is because he is so insightful! This conversation is one of my favorites and I really encourage you to listen to it!

In this episode we answer the question, “How can I make EFT part of my daily routine?” in this interview with Rick Wilkes where he shares how to heal effectively without excessive emotional highs and lows. Show Topic: While it is true that there are some issues that can be resolved very quickly, most healing happens over a period of time. In this episode EFT expert Rick Wilkes and I reveal how we work this healing process without going too far, too fast. We believe that moving to peak experiences too quickly can result in an emotional crash, much like the crash that follows a sugar high. Rick succinctly explains how we can move up the emotional scale steadily, ensuring that we create a strong emotional foundation to allow us to thrive on a long-term basis.
