This episode is best viewed as a video: https://youtu.be/fiaH3NLyCJoLauren is an Integrative Energy Practitioner & Coach, specializing in the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT – also known as Tapping) for stress, anxiety, and chronic pain. Highlights·      EFT/Tapping is like acupressure without needles ·      Tapping on these specific points gets energy moving (if this sounds weird, that's OK; try it and see how you feel)·      Tapping signals to the amygdala “you are safe” so you can think more clearly (research has found tapping decreases cortisol levels)·      At the beginning of a session, give your feeling a number so you can track your progress after each round·      Tap for as long as it feels good (a round is less than a minute to a few minutes – do it until you notice a shift)·      If tapping is uncomfortable, just use gentle pressure·      If you are in a place where you can't “tap”, then you can regulate the nervous system by gently squeezing each finger on the sides of the nailbed·      Tapping allows you to “come home to your house”·      Adding statements helps you discover what is really beneath the surface of what you are feeling·      Make sure you are saying the statements out loud·      Tapping allows you to think about something differently, so you can feel differently and  act differently so you get different results·      Change the words as it feels right to youTapping points (typically you will tap with your dominate hand)1.    Pinky side of the hand 2.    Crown of head3.    Inside of eyebrows4.    Temples (side of the eyes)5.    Under the eye6.    Under the nose7.    Chin point/crease of chin8.    Fleshy part underneath of collarbone9.    Underneath the arm10. What was it like-- finding out that you and your spouse were pregnant with your first child? Were you thrilled, shocked... utterly horrified?   This week, we're speaking to Blythe, and incredible mother to two precious boys. We're going to hear how Blythe's entrance into motherhood- beginning at the knowledge of her pregnancy was tumultuous and difficult, and yet she experienced so much healing.... and then was able to go on to have an absolutely joyous second pregnancy.   I do want to share that Blythe is so wonderfully open about her experiences with us, and I feel that this can be so encouraging, especially to those of you who have found yourself in a similar frame of mind as Blythe in your pregnancy. Maybe you even feel that way now. At the same time, I do always like to give a good heads up when content may be difficult, and this is the case with the first part of today's story. Blythe will share of her perinatal depression along with her postpartum mood disorders, including the hallucinations she experienced.   But, as I said, this is a story of hope and redemption, and there is so much beauty to follow. As always, please decide for yourself what you feel comfortable taking in in terms of stories, but I'm thrilled to be able to share hope with so many mothers who can relate.   Episode Roundup: How amazing was it to hear the way that Blythe's mother's choices regarding birth set her and her brothers up for success? They grew up not feeling fearful about birth, but believing it to be a normal, beautiful event. This is what you're doing for your children right now as you make this decision to. embrace pregnancy and labor as it was physiologically designed to be. How incredible. Blythe struggled. Truly, truly struggled. From conception through the first three years, she had a long, dark road to walk. It included symptoms of psychosis, anxiety and depression, and it was just heavy. If you've been there or if you're there now, I want you to know that you're no less worthy of a human because you're struggling. There can be such grief and shame added from ourselves, which simply compounds the pain. Instead, I would love to share about one of many avenues we can consider to heal. I believe that so much healing can take place when we focus on the nervous system. This can look like many different things, but tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique is one of my favorite ways, and it's got the research to back that it truly works. Jennifer Moore came from a family who had the ability to imagine how horrible things could be. She was exhausted, overwhelmed, feeling stressed, and hurting all the time. As she learned to calm her nervous system down, she started to develop the tools for herself that she would later share with other people. She was born an intuitive and had her first prophetic dream when she was 9 years old. She was already on the path to recovery when she went to grad school. She worked as a psychic and an artist, running ceremonies and workshops. She studied breathwork and reiki modalities, worked with intuition and tarot cards and worked with self-help groups. She considered becoming a Unitarian Universalist minister. She taught alternative healing but lacked confidence. She was on a path to a Master of Divinity degree to become a minister, but she changed her course to Master of Psychology and Religion. She realized she was not cut-out for the politics of the church – to be the parent where everyone is working out their family of origin issues, or the mean girl politics that organized religion brings.She didn't always recognize what was hers and what was not. She felt responsible for the struggles her clients were having. She receives guidance and information well, but it substantially improved when she stopped eating sugar. What she puts in her body effects the guidance. The cleanliness of the food effects the ability to receive intuitive information. Sugar gives a boost in the short term, but long-term, it compromises your filters and shields, and contributes to depression, anxiety and despair. After giving up sugar, her filter was clean.At 23, she quit smoking, gained 40 pounds in four months, and found herself in a raging eating disorder. After doing the personal work, she found a psychotherapist who helped Jennifer realize that the stress she was picking up was not just hers, but also others' stress. Jennifer's book, “Empathic Mastery” explains a five-step system: Recognize, release, protect, connect, and act.When she learned about metaphysics and magic, she was taught to build up her filters and shields. However, she recognized that she was feeling out of sorts. She asked, "what's not mine?" She picked up energy. She learned to take a deep breath and place her hand on her heart. Then, she would send the energy to where it belongs.She protects herself by setting boundaries. She decides when she should get involved by determining if it is an aligned place to be. She ran into a telephone pole and totaled her car by not trusting her intuition. She's been doing readings (including Akashic records) for people for decades. Jennifer teaches at the Empathic Mastery Academy. She developed her tools for 30 years. She came up in a time where psychics were like the red-headed stepchildren. It was usually considered weird. Now, it is common, and safer to do the work. Back then, there wasn't the kind of information that there is now. She teaches how to get in touch with self, get calm and regulate our nervous systems. We need to self-soothe, develop tools, do breathwork, and do the Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping). This way, we won't pick up the distressed energies in the world around us and we can start to become beacons for calm, love, and healing. Lived by “Get busy living or get busy dying.” [13:40 - 19:08] Why asking quality questions is crucial for our mental and emotional fitness   KNOW ONE THING: The moment we ask ourselves a question, our mind will go to work to answer it, so we must become aware of what questions we're asking ourselves Self-honest, self observation is the key - Must spend time looking inside to see what you could change instead of looking outside to see who you could blame (key premise:  “Who is the most important person to start telling the truth to?”). Examples of great questions to ask: What's one thing I can do right now? How much longer do I plan to practice feeling sorry for myself? Or When i stop feeling sorry for myself, what's one thing I do right away? When you get hit with a negative experience, the first step is to practice the courage of self-honesty by asking, “When I tell myself the truth, what am I thinking or feeling about what's happening?” (i.e. this creates awareness to both the mind and body)   [19:09 - 41:04] The basics of energy psychology and what most people are missing when it comes to human performance   There's a lot of Incompleteness happening - there's not a lot of practical teaching going on around mental and emotional fitness (there's big gap between advice and methods) Energy psychology - basic science tells us we have electromagnetic energy. We have an energy circulation system in our bodies with 14 lines of energy (i.e. garden hose analogy) going through our bodies (e.g. get shocked, EEGs, EKGs, etc.)  When we're not performing our best, it may have more to do with blocked energy in our body-mind system than it has to do with things like lack of willpower, determination, or attitude Emotional Freedom Technique - it's a dependable way to relax their body and calm their mind We have to have a body intervention whenever we're feeling stuck - trying to think your way to a good place when you know you're already nervous and upset is remarkably inefficient Once we get rid of a negative thought, we have to replace it with a positive thought, behavior, or action   [41:05 - 43:03] What we need to be looking for when it comes to getting help with our mental and emotional fitness   Look for a teaching component behind every concept (ask: are methods being taught to accomplish what I want?) Have you heard of the idea to choose the thoughts you want to think? Well that is so true! But sometimes, we can't always see the thoughts in order to change them. Tapping is a powerful tool that helps to calm the body and get into the subconscious thoughts and beliefs. Our thoughts are like an iceberg: majority of what we think is below the surface where we can't see them. What we do see is just the tip of the iceberg. EFT - tapping goes below the surface into the subconscious mind to clear out things that we may be thinking and to reprogram them into more productive and helpful ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us. No, it's not brainwashing. Our subconscious controls majority of our emotions and feelings. By tuning into the doubts, worry, fears, and grievances that come up in our daily lives, we target the subconscious thought controlling that emotion.
