"We just want our daughter's remains returned so we can have some closure to our grief."On 15 August 2015, employees at the Mission Park Funeral Chapels North in San Antonio, TX closed up for the evening. They'd just held a service for a young woman named Julie Mott who had perished after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. By 4:30 PM that Saturday, the doors were locked and the ADT alarm system was set. When staff returned to the facility the following morning, they were surprised to see that Julie's casket had been moved from an empty hallway and now rested in a strange position near an exit door. And inside the casket, there was nothing. Her remains were missing...Research by Ira RaiWriting by Amelia WhiteHosting & production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

"State officials have probably noticed an increase as well as an unusual distribution of Medfly infestation in Los Angeles County since March 1989. This was no coincidence."The Mediterranean fruit fly, better known as the medfly, is about as unassuming as an insect can get. But the pest, native to sub-Saharan Africa, comes with enormous stakes. The medfly can infest more than 200 plant species, proving to be a nightmare for farmers everywhere. For farmers in California, though, they're an existential threat. That's why state officials treat every sighting like a five-alarm fire.California has been fighting medfly invasions since the mid-1970s, throwing everything at them in an attempt to save their billion dollar agricultural industry. But in 1989, a strange outbreak of medflies were reported in Los Angeles and Orange counties. They appeared in clusters, as if they'd been placed there on purpose. Before long, a mysterious group calling themselves "The Breeders" claimed responsibility for this act of eco-terror...Research & writing by Amelia WhiteHosting, production, and additional research/writing by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
After a period of political and economic crisis in the 1980s, the constituent republics of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia split apart in the early 1990s. Unresolved issues from the breakup caused a series of inter-ethnic Yugoslav Wars from 1991 to 2001 which primarily affected Bosnia and Herzegovina, neighboring parts of Croatia and, some years later, Kosovo. The wars left economic and political damage in the region that is still felt decades later.Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog #3600:00 Intro7:13 The Day Robotropolis Fell Part 117:35 The Day Robotropolis Fell Part 226:57 The Day Robotropolis Fell Part 332:11 Outro-----Gotta Talk Fast is an oral review of Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog. Taking care of ourselves doesn't always mean overhauling everything; it can start with one small choice to finally put our health first. That's exactly what Tracy Slavik did after years of struggling with PCOS, weight, and hormonal ups and downs. She opened up about how she lost 100 pounds, regained her energy, and started trusting her body again with my Keto Green 16 program. Her story is such a reminder that real change is possible, even when it feels out of reach. You'll also hear from Angela Crump, who shares how she found her way back to joy after heartbreaking losses. Grief shook her world, but choosing self-care became her way of healing. She talks honestly about what it looked like to put her health back on the list and how those choices gave her life a new kind of vibrancy. Both Tracy and Angela show us that when we take care of ourselves, everything else in life begins to shift too. "It was clearly part of our investigation that she was killed prior to the fire, and the fire was used to cover up her murder."On the morning of 20 October 2016, firefighters were called to a quiet suburban neighborhood in Lockport, New York. There, they found a small fire burning in the front bedroom of a duplex, which was easily quelled. However, amidst the charred linens was the body of the homeowner, 54-year-old Holly Seiler.Initially believing this was a fatal accident, Holly's relatives and neighbors had no reason to feel alarmed. But the medical examiner would soon determine that Holly had been strangled before the fire had been set, presumably to cover up her death. A domestic dispute hours beforehand seemed to point to a potential motive, but a second fire set in the same building just weeks later would cast doubt on any assumptions...Research & writing by Amelia WhiteHosting, production, and additional research/writing by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
Your Parenting Mojo - Respectful, research-based parenting ideas to help kids thrive
Every parent knows that harsh inner voice that whispers "You're a terrible parent" when you lose your patience, or "You've ruined your kids forever" after a difficult moment. This episode reveals a simple "magic trick" that can instantly create space between you and those critical thoughts - and it's something anyone can learn. Discover how one powerful phrase can transform your reactions from triggered explosions to curious responses. You'll learn where your inner critic actually comes from (hint: it's often an echo from your own childhood), and how reparenting yourself can break generational cycles of trauma. This episode recaps the following episodes, giving you a lot of the benefit of 3 hours of content, in just 21 minutes:SYPM 017: Reparenting ourselves to create empathy in the world with Amy178: How to heal your inner critic193: You don't have to believe everything you thinkQuestions This Episode Will AnswerWhat is the inner critic and how does it affect parenting? The inner critic is that harsh, judgmental voice that tells you you're failing as a parent. It often stems from childhood trauma and can trigger explosive reactions to normal child behavior. Where does the inner critic come from?Your inner critic is usually an internalized version of critical voices from your childhood - parents, teachers, or caregivers who couldn't handle your authentic self or big emotions. How do you identify your inner critic?Watch for thoughts using absolute language ("always," "never," "terrible"), character judgments ("I'm a bad parent"), catastrophic conclusions, and voices that sound like critical figures from your past. What does reparenting yourself mean?Reparenting yourself means giving yourself the patience, understanding, and compassion you didn't receive as a child - becoming the caring parent to yourself that you needed growing up. How do you reparent yourself as a parent?Start by questioning your thoughts instead of believing them automatically. When you notice self-critical thoughts, respond to yourself with the same gentleness you'd offer a dear friend or your own child. How can you break the generational cycle of trauma?Use tools like the ‘magic trick' from this episode to create space between your triggered reactions and conscious responses, allowing you to respond from your values instead of reacting from old wounds. What are common inner critic examples parents experience?"Everyone thinks I'm a bad parent", "I'm raising a disrespectful child", "I've damaged my child forever", "Other parents are better than me", and "I'm just repeating my parents' mistakes". How does childhood trauma affect parenting?Unresolved childhood trauma can make you react disproportionately to normal child behavior, shut down emotionally when children express big emotions, or swing between being too permissive and too strict. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeThe Simple...

"Serial killers in the past have often been found to have started with animal torture."In October 2017, the mutilated body of a cat was found in a rural area outside of Olympia, Washington. At the time, people tried to explain it away. Maybe it was a car. Maybe coyotes. Nobody wanted to consider the alternative. But as winter turned into 2018, more fragments turned up. Severed limbs in a field outside of Lacey, a suburb outside of Olympia. Another partial body a week later. No witnesses, no clear pattern, just grisly remains. Maybe it was scavengers, some insisted. But the unease had started...Research, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
How do you know if the challenges you face today — in relationships, at work, or even with your health — are really caused by unresolved childhood trauma? It's a question I hear often, and it's a good one. Because without clarity, we end up treating the wrong “symptom” and going in circles.Maybe you've already done therapy or coaching around past issues. You've journaled, meditated, and worked on your personal growth. But here's the deeper question: How do you know if your healing is truly complete… or if there are still layers left to uncover? In this week's episode of the podcast, I share the 3 telltale signs of unresolved childhood trauma — patterns I've seen in myself and in countless others. They quietly shape our relationships, our sense of self, and our ability to manage emotions:Repetitive relationship struggles — push–pull dynamics, people-pleasing, shutting down, or feeling unsafe in closeness.A vague sense that “something is wrong with me” — showing up as shame, imposter syndrome, or holding back from intimacy.Emotional dysregulation — feeling numb until emotions hit like a tsunami, or managing them through work, food, or other distractions. If you recognize yourself in any of these, you're not alone. This is a story about fighting to stay, even when your brain tries to convince you otherwise. We listen to all of them. “I'm not proud of my story because it's pretty—it's ugly. But I'm proud I'm still here.” — Emily What This Episode is About Emily opens up about what came next after the suicide attempts, what healing looks like on the ground level, and the daily work it takes to quiet the internalized voices of shame. She talks about masking, being in survival mode, and the confusion of being a high-functioning person with severe depression. You'll also hear about her struggles in romantic relationships, what it felt like to have emotional abuse reinforced in adulthood, and how becoming a parent inspired her to change the narrative in her family line. SEO Keywords: Suicide attempt recovery, high-functioning depression, emotional abuse, trauma-informed parenting, mental health support, post-attempt healing, invisible pain, self-worth, generational trauma, PTSD recovery, inner child work, coping with shame, childhood emotional neglect Meet Our Guest: Emily Emily is a trauma survivor, a nurse, a mother, and a woman doing the hard work to heal while still showing up for everyone else. In Part 1, she shared her early struggles with mental illness, beginning with cutting at age 11 and two suicide attempts before she turned 21. In this episode, she takes us deeper into the “after”—into the quiet, messy, nonlinear work of recovery. She explains how her trauma carried into her adult relationships, how she learned to identify emotional abuse in real-time, and how she's slowly starting to believe she is worthy of being loved without condition. Emily's story is not tied up in a neat little bow—and that's precisely why it matters. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emmiewillyy/ 3 Key Takeaways You can look “fine” and still be in survival mode. High-functioning depression is real. Unresolved childhood trauma can impact every adult relationship. But awareness is power. Recovery is daily work. It's not a one-time decision; it's a commitment to stay. Actionable Items Use grounding tools when shame kicks in—like naming your feeling out loud or writing it down. Audit your relationships for emotional safety: Do they help you grow or keep you in patterns? If you're struggling, reach out to someone. You don't have to wait until you're in crisis to ask for help. Chapters & Time Stamps [00:01:22] Living With the Aftermath Emily reflects on what life looked like after her second attempt and why she thought she had to act “fine.” [00:04:45] The Masking We Learn The dangers of pretending everything is okay, even when it's not—and how people missed the signs. [00:09:12] Surviving Toxic Love Emily shares her experience with emotionally abusive relationships and how it mirrored her childhood. [00:21:30] Parenting as a Cycle Breaker What she's doing differently to raise her daughter with emotional honesty and safety. [00:29:55] Healing Isn't Pretty The real, gritty parts of staying alive—and staying connected to yourself. “... to date, there are no confirmed reports of any clowns actually abducting, harming, or killing kids… There just aren't. There are zero.”Do you remember when there were a bunch of clown sightings a few years back? It seemed like every week brought new reports of creepy clowns lurking at the edge of woods, roaming neighborhoods, and leering from parking lots. They waved at startled onlookers, chased kids with knives, or whispered from the tree line... at least, that's what people said.People flooded 911 lines with calls about these boogeymen in big shoes, yet concrete evidence was scarce. It was a bizarre social media-fueled hysteria that spread across dozens of states and even overseas, equal parts absurd and unsettling...Research, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanAdditional research & writing by Ira RaiLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

“On this day we should only remember his many victims and all of their families... As far as Hansen is concerned, this world is better without him.” In August 2014, 75-year-old Robert Hansen took his last breath at a hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. The notorious serial killer spent his final decades alive incarcerated, first in Pennsylvania and then in Alaska, saying little of importance to anyone. But even now, more than a decade after his death, questions remain. Not only of the victims Hansen confessed to killing, such as Eklutna Annie, but those he refused to accept responsibility for... Hey Friend! We rarely talk about grief in leadership—but we should. Grief isn't just about loss through death. It shows up in promotions, career pivots, team shifts, unmet goals, and changes in identity. Whether it's visible or not, unresolved grief impacts how we lead, how we connect, and how we make decisions. In this deeply personal and powerful episode, I walk you through the real, often hidden ways grief can shape (or derail) your leadership—and how facing it might just be your boldest next step.
"You can't r*** a prostitute, can you?"In the Fall of 1983, Robert Hansen was arrested after the daring escape of 17-year-old Cindy Paulson. With Paulson's testimony and an FBI profile pointing squarely at Hansen, Alaska State Troopers obtained a warrant and uncovered damning evidence in Hansen's home. There, they found a hunting rifle linked to multiple murders, jewelry and other belongings from several victims, as well as a haunting map leading them to more than a dozen bodies. In the weeks and months that followed, authorities would begin to dig into Robert Hansen's backstory, uncovering not just prior incidents in his youth that had essentially brushed off, but a long history of hatred against women...Part three of fourResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

“I'm a great dad… so why am I still losing it with my son?” In this powerful conversation, we unpack a question every high-performing man quietly wrestles with: Why do we keep repeating patterns we know aren't serving us — as husbands, fathers, or leaders? This week I sat down with Dr. Bob Beare, PhD — licensed therapist, recovery leader, and founder of Deep Waters Recovery and The Creative Life Institute. Bob has spent over two decades helping men confront the emotional wounds they've spent a lifetime avoiding — trauma, shame, addiction, grief — and guiding them toward healing that actually lasts. Together we explore: Why your biggest parenting blowups have nothing to do with your kid How “doing the right thing” as a child can create a lifetime of pressure The dark side of positivity (and how it blocks real healing) How spiritual bypassing shows up in fatherhood and leadership Why healing your nervous system is the best thing you can do for your child How men can access deep emotional release without abandoning strength This isn't theory. It's two men telling the truth. About childhood wounds. Emotional reactivity. Shame. And what it looks like to repair with the people you love most

"Guys, I've got a map here... with a lot of X's."Just after 5:00 AM on 13 June 1983, police in Anchorage, Alaska arrive at a seedy motor inn on Gambell Street. Inside room 110 is a young girl huddled on the bed, barefoot, shivering, and still wearing a pair of handcuffs. Her name is Cindy Paulson, and minutes earlier she had made a run for her life.Through Cindy's extraordinary account, police link her case to a local resident, Robert Hansen. Hansen, a local baker and avid hunter, was well-known and liked by almost all who knew him, including members of the Anchorage P.D. Investigators bring him in for questioning but are ultimately forced to let him go. However, Cindy's report quickly ends up on the desk of Alaska State Trooper Glenn Flothe, who - along with some others - had been investigating the mysterious deaths of local sex workers and dancers...Part two of fourResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProduceBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
"Workers and drug dealers and dancers came and went, many with few ties to the state and no one to notice if they went missing..."In the early 1980s, a quiet pattern had begun to form: women were disappearing in the region surrounding Anchorage. Many had come to Alaska in order to escape their problems or to otherwise have a fresh start in the "Last Frontier." But amidst a transient population, these women's disappearances were shrugged off, presumed to have simply gotten lost in the shuffle.Following the discovery of a few bodies, however, investigators with the Anchorage Police Department and Alaska State Troopers started to make connections between victims. Despite being separated by time and distance, these young women had seemingly been hunted by a serial killer with ritualistic tendencies...Part one of fourResearch, writing, hosting, and production by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.
