Have you ever had test anxiety? I can still remember as a young boy in school, having test anxiety. I was good at tests, except for math. I would pray, God please let me get through this test. And I did, but I was always anxious. One of my daughters was talking to me about some general life stuff and she said, “Sometimes I wish I could just go back to a child and not have to handle all this stuff. It was easier then.” I have felt the same way myself sometimes. But there is no going back. And God doesn’t want us going back. He wants us to go forward, to grow….to mature, to be complete, and to be perfected. Just a couple of verses in James really focuses on how to not only get through “it”, whatever it is at the time, but how to be successful and to grow.

Why does God's Word tell us to consider it all joy when we face difficulties?

Have you ever wondered, How did I ever get into this mess? Why are all these problems happening to me? The bible is clear on the fact that you will have problems. You have either been in a problem, are in a problem now or are about to encounter a problem. Problems 101 gives examples of what the scriptures teach to do about problems when you encounter them. Using David, who faced a huge problem, Goliath, we look back at the lion and the bear to see how David used those problems to conquer the bigger one.

In this new sermon series on James, we will focus on how the doctrines we believe influence the ways we behave, or how our faith should be translated into actions. James' focus is on having a faith that works. In this sermon, I introduce the book of James and then focus on James 1:2-4 and how we should respond to the variety of trials and difficulties we face in life.

Ruthless trust in the cross … counts, knows, lets.
We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.
It’s more than choosing a good attitude, enduring a hard season and not compromising. God is using all of this because we have a relationship with him. The better us emerges out of a relationship with Christ.

Bible teaches us to count it all joy when we go through trials of various kinds. The Christian will go through trials but God is strengthening our faith and working to conform us to the image of Christ.

Listen as Pastor Mark shares that spiritual trials make us stronger and our struggles produce endurance which leads to spiritual maturity.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Trials of many kinds! Oh yea! What was James thinking when he asked us to consider this pure joy? James knew that the secret to our attitude lies in our thinking, and that the way we think about our trials, and ourselves, can change everything. Let’s see what life hack James has for our thoughts that will cause us to rejoice about our trials.
Do you ever wonder why you have so many challenges in your life? We are going to look at James 1:1-4 for insights on how to turn problems into opportunities. It's a radical way to look at life - but it's God's way.
How do we know we truly believe in Jesus? Our faith will be shown by the way we respond in difficult circumstances. In this practical book by the Lord's brother, James exhorts us to consider it pure happiness when we fall into times of trial and difficulty.
Sometimes we just need to be reminded that God really does know what's going on in our lives, that he cares about us, that he can be our strength when we have no strength. This week we'll be talking about how he's not just aware of what's happening in our situation, he's working behind the scenes in ways we can't imagine. Understanding this truth can make a huge difference to your time in waiting.
