Have you ever had test anxiety? I can still remember as a young boy in school, having test anxiety. I was good at tests, except for math. I would pray, God please let me get through this test. And I did, but I was always anxious. One of my daughters was talking to me about some general life stuff and she said, “Sometimes I wish I could just go back to a child and not have to handle all this stuff. It was easier then.” I have felt the same way myself sometimes. But there is no going back. And God doesn’t want us going back. He wants us to go forward, to grow….to mature, to be complete, and to be perfected. Just a couple of verses in James really focuses on how to not only get through “it”, whatever it is at the time, but how to be successful and to grow.

Why does God's Word tell us to consider it all joy when we face difficulties?
May the God of Wonders Bless You!
Have you ever wondered, How did I ever get into this mess? Why are all these problems happening to me? The bible is clear on the fact that you will have problems. You have either been in a problem, are in a problem now or are about to encounter a problem. Problems 101 gives examples of what the scriptures teach to do about problems when you encounter them. Using David, who faced a huge problem, Goliath, we look back at the lion and the bear to see how David used those problems to conquer the bigger one.

In this new sermon series on James, we will focus on how the doctrines we believe influence the ways we behave, or how our faith should be translated into actions. James' focus is on having a faith that works. In this sermon, I introduce the book of James and then focus on James 1:2-4 and how we should respond to the variety of trials and difficulties we face in life.

We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

When the world looks at our faith, they say it doesn't add up. Why on earth would we "sacrifice" so much for God? Why would we make such a "dumb" trade? Surely there is no profit. It’s more than choosing a good attitude, enduring a hard season and not compromising. God is using all of this because we have a relationship with him. The better us emerges out of a relationship with Christ.

Bible teaches us to count it all joy when we go through trials of various kinds. The Christian will go through trials but God is strengthening our faith and working to conform us to the image of Christ.

Keeping it Real: An Introduction
1. James is not saying be joyful about the suffering, but rather be joyful in what it ________________________. 2. James is saying that you are incomplete...without suffering. What only suffering can cultivate in you: H __________________ C __________________ F __________________ F __________________
Beginning a study into the "New Testament Wisdom Literature," James, we find James confronting believers who have trials to do the unthinkable: consider them reasons for joy! Why? Because they purify our faith.

Listen as Pastor Mark shares that spiritual trials make us stronger and our struggles produce endurance which leads to spiritual maturity.
Adulting isn't easy, but there are big payoffs. Spiritual adulting also takes work, but the results are life-changing. Ready for the challenge? See how the "New You" can shape a new community, now and for the next generation.

Interim Pastor, Chris Weldon, begins a new series on Authentic Faith with a sermon from the book of James on joy in trials.

While we might be tempted to ask God why He allows us to go through various difficulties, James reminds us of the benefits of trials.
Do you ever feel stuck? It’s easy to get comfortable where we are. But God will not allow us to stay comfortable. He will prod us to move when we are not willing to move. What is God using to move you today?
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds. Doesn’t that sound like fun? Trials of many kinds! Oh yea! What was James thinking when he asked us to consider this pure joy? James knew that the secret to our attitude lies in our thinking, and that the way we think about our trials, and ourselves, can change everything. Let’s see what life hack James has for our thoughts that will cause us to rejoice about our trials.
Whether you’re going through the fire right now or not, suffering may be right around the corner, and developing the right perspective on suffering is critical.

Do you ever wonder why you have so many challenges in your life? We are going to look at James 1:1-4 for insights on how to turn problems into opportunities. It's a radical way to look at life - but it's God's way.

How do we know we truly believe in Jesus? Our faith will be shown by the way we respond in difficult circumstances. In this practical book by the Lord's brother, James exhorts us to consider it pure happiness when we fall into times of trial and difficulty.
Sometimes we just need to be reminded that God really does know what's going on in our lives, that he cares about us, that he can be our strength when we have no strength. This week we'll be talking about how he's not just aware of what's happening in our situation, he's working behind the scenes in ways we can't imagine. Understanding this truth can make a huge difference to your time in waiting.
