We all know veterans who have battled the transition from military service to civilian life. Nick Koumalatsos was a Marine raider who can certainly speak to that. After discharging from the military after 12 years of service, he battled that adjustment, going through divorce, bankruptcy, and even serious thoughts of suicide. It took him many years to figure out a formula that would work for him to pull himself out of these abysses. But throughout his life, Nick had always been seeking an angle to move up in the world. This led him to start his first business, and he's now run multiple businesses. The one that gets him most fired up is Johnny Slicks, which makes organic personal grooming products right here in the USA. Nick describes how they have created a strong family-like company atmosphere as they do all production and distribution in-house instead of farming these aspects out. He has also founded Core Medical Group, whose differentiator is providing personal care and service for men who need to determine whether they should explore testosterone replacement therapy. He's also created a transformative coaching group called Agoge that currently includes men from ages 17 to 74. It's a very hands-on community to help men overcome challenges. The lessons include Mastering Yourself, Leading Your Family, Mastering Your Finances where Nick shares what the wealthy don't tell the rest of us about, and Leaders Creating More Leaders – creating your own legacy. He has put a tremendous number of resources and lessons on his website, nickkoumalatsos.com including a free course well worth checking out. Related to this, Nick is leading a retreat in Kona in October for those who feel stuck in life or having a lot of stops and starts that prevent them from making progress. If that's all not enough, he's helping add his Marine experience to the production of the upcoming Punisher movie. You'll be able to feel Nick's abundant energy in this chat and learn a lot about how you can take control of your own inaction and/or overcome serious challenges like Nick did to create a fulfilling life helping others in myriad ways.Nick Koumalatsosnickkoumalatsos.cominfo@nickkoumalatsos.comInstagram and Threads @nickkoumalatsosFacebook Nick KoumalatsosBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @we_are_superman_podcastYouTube We Are Superman PodcastPlease support Team Leadville and Warriors' Ascent help prevent veteran suicide! Then, joined by Lake Speed Jr. the show got wings and took off into the unchartered territories of oil technology. Terms like zinc, calcium, phosphorous and viscosity were tossed around like projectiles at a beer pong party. Lake covered all the hard topics and passed on some excellent recommendations we can all use.

What do you think of this episode? Do you have any topics you'd like me to cover?Long term listener, Cathy, has asked us some very heartfelt and important questions about how to support her teen at university. It's an excellent topic for us to tackle since Susie currently has one at university, I have one about to go, and two who have already graduated, one of whom gave me some excellent tips. It's a topic that evokes mixed-emotions for everyone. Here's what Cathy wrote:Please 'discuss how best to support your teen as they go off to university and live away from home for the first time. How about if they don't like their roommate, or they have difficulty sharing a room, or they have problems adjusting academically and or socially to university and they want to come home? Any tips for success?'We'll be digging into those questions and more. We'll look at the dropout rates to get an idea of what goes wrong.what challenges students face — from social pressure to mental health — and what you can do now to prepare your teen not just to survive university, but to thrive. We also share practical tips — like life skills they should master before they go, what kind of support they need once they're there, and how to let go without disappearing completely. So, whether your teen is packing their bags this summer or just starting to explore their options, this episode will give you real tools to support them — and yourself — during one of the biggest transitions in family life. What struck me was that kids who start out well tend to have much higher rates of completion than those who struggle at the offset. It may seem obvious, but it's a very useful indicator of how important those early days and weeks are. It fits very neatly with the work of Dr Gregory Walton, Ordinary Magic, who featured in last week's episode. He says there are deep questions we ask at key points in life. These points are TIC's.T: Transitions in life.I: Points at which our Identity as at stake.C: When we have big Challenges. Often we are not conscious of these questions, but they can play havoc with our lives if we don't deal with them. The two big questions that comes up for university joiners are:Do I belong? Can I do this?PRINCIPLES FOR THIS FROM ORDINARY MAGIC:1 - Avoid negative labels. (I'm not bad)2 - You're not the only one. (It's normal)3 - Recognise causes taht don't malign you or others. (These are real obstacles for me)4 - Forecast improvement. (It can get better)5 - Recognise opportunities (Look for options and silver linings) I willSupport the showThank you so much for your support. In this episode, listeners are confronted with the raw, unvarnished reality of what it means to face a sudden, non-negotiable change in role-right on the eve of a major team event. Peter Consalvi, originally slated to run in Team RWB's Old Glory Ultra Relay, is forced by injury to relinquish his runner position and step up as crew chief. This isn't a gentle pivot; it's a high-stakes, high-pressure transition that demands immediate acceptance and a complete mental reset. Pete lays bare the emotional turmoil, the self-doubt, and the honest grief that comes with letting go of a role you've trained for, dreamed about, and been honored to fill. But he doesn't wallow-he attacks the new challenge, channeling his energy, experience, and leadership into ensuring the team's success from a new vantage point. This is not just about personal sacrifice; it's about recognizing when stubbornness becomes a liability to the mission and having the guts to make the hard call for the greater good. Listeners are challenged -- directly and unequivocally -- to examine how they respond when the ground shifts beneath their feet. Are you ready to drop your ego, recalibrate, and throw yourself into a new role at a moment's notice? Peter's journey is a masterclass in rapid mindset adjustment: he processes the loss, trusts his gut, and then gets to work, leveraging his strengths to support the team in a way that's just as critical as running. The episode pulls no punches about the discomfort and drama inherent in these transitions, demanding that you ask yourself: can you adapt fast enough when your plans explode? Can you communicate, lead, and execute without missing a beat? This is a call to action for anyone who wants to be indispensable-not just when things go according to plan, but especially when they don't. What separates those who just dabble in real estate from those who build real freedom? After a decade in the business, coaching thousands of students, and scaling my own portfolio—I can tell you this: success isn't about talent. It's about traits. In today's solo episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on the 9 traits that our most successful associates, apprentices, and real estate partners demonstrate every day. These traits aren't flashy. They're foundational. And they'll change the way you operate if you commit to them. Send us a textWhen the rain washes out a week of games and the state tournament looms on the horizon, how do you keep your pitching staff ready? For Coach Jason Brandt, the answer might surprise you.Coach Brandt of Wapakoneta High School has crafted one of Ohio's most consistent baseball programs through a philosophy that seems counterintuitive at first glance. "The later we get into the season, the less we practice," he reveals, explaining that rest becomes increasingly precious as tournament time approaches. This season, his team has surged to a 12-1 record despite fielding nine underclassmen among their regular players. The conversation dives deep into the challenges of schedule disruptions and managing young arms during compressed game schedules. But it's Brandt's perspective on coaching evolution that truly resonates. After more than two decades leading the program, he's transitioned from what he describes as a "fiery" young coach to a more balanced leader who understands that "it's just a game and the kids aren't out there trying to lose." This growth hasn't come without memorable moments, including a hilarious story about falling off a bucket in the dugout during a crucial late-inning situation.Beyond tactics, Brandt shares invaluable wisdom for aspiring coaches: conduct honest one-on-one conversations with players about their roles, surround yourself with loyal assistants (three of his are former players), and recognize the critical importance of youth programs in sustaining high school success. His approach has led to five district championships and two state final appearances – proving that sometimes the best coaching happens when you know when to back off and let players shine.Ready to transform your coaching philosophy? After finding himself buried in credit card debt as an intern despite his elite education, Dr. Yeh shares his compelling journey through financial education and the eventual development of sophisticated investment techniques that required monitoring just once monthly. His approach focuses on risk mitigation rather than aggressive returns, using mathematical filters borrowed from his radiology background to identify market trends and protect investments from major downturns. John and Dr. Yeh dive into the differences between the three financial industry sectors (banking, brokerage, and insurance), clarify the often-confusing regulatory environment, and discuss practical advice for physicians considering career transitions. Dr. Yeh emphasizes viewing wealth through the lens of time—measuring how many years you could comfortably survive without additional income—and recommends specific financial runway requirements for various career pivot scenarios, from six months for job transitions to five years for building a new business.
