In Deep is a video podcast series for conversations that dive into the details of focused topics -- no fluff, just concentrated, sometimes technical talk from experienced anglers and industry professionals. Our first In Deep guest is my friend, John Shaner. With a career spanning five decades, Shaner has worked for influential companies like Hardy and Cortland, while connecting with seemingly every fishy angler in the industry. Shaner is widely regarded for his technical fly fishing skills and encyclopedic, historical knowledge of both traditional and modern tactics. In this conversation, John Shaner and I go In Deep on dry fly leader design. John and I share a similar philosophy, with just a few individual twists on the overarching principals.Sincere thanks to John Shaner, for a fantastic conversation.Fish hard, friends.ResourcesREAD: Troutbitten | Dry Fly Fishing -- The George Harvey Leader DesignVIDEO: Troutbitten | The Harvey Dry Leader -- Design, Adjustment and Fishing TipsJohn Shaner's Favorite Dry Leader48'' .019 Chameleon36” .017 Chameleon12" .015 Chameleon8" .013 Chameleon8" .012 Chameleon8" .010 Chameleon8" .009 Chameleon12" .008 Nylon Tippet12" .007 Nylon Tippet12-18" .006 Nylon Tippet36-60" .005 Nylon TippetVisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten FacebookThanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/

In this episode, Ken Lain, "The Mountain Gardener," discusses autumn irrigation adjustments to maintain plant health for the fall. Lain stresses the importance of not stopping irrigation too early, as this could harm plants that continue to root through October. When should you reduce watering as the temperatures start dropping? I had a start to my day where I was trying to connect with something better than what was swirling around in my head. I let the “doom and gloom” stuff going around in the world today, get to me. But like before, I knew it was happening and I set out to choose to do something about it. A gratitude walk sure did help this morning along with a couple of other things. First came from Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) - a former student and now an outstanding teacher and coach himself. He shares this: “New Day - New Opportunity - Today is a new day. It does not care about what happened last week. It does not care what you plan to do next week. Today is a new day & a great opportunity to get better. Always be thankful and grateful for a new day. Make the best of your opportunity.” Perfect for me today! Next up was a post from Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity) “Stay hopeful. You never know what tomorrow may bring.” Again, a message to help me readjust my day, which we all need once in a while. Another couple of items came from a teaching post that I got some very uplifting feedback from three former students and a couple of former colleagues, that once again, helped me readjust my day!! It's also probably time for a readjustment of my social media intake as well. So many more things to help me with where I want my days (and ultimately my life) to go in a more positive direction. Hope this helps you when you need a readjustment of your day. Thanks for listening. Sometimes the best conversations happen when you throw out the script and just see where things go, and that's what I'm doing in this episode of Leaving the Nest! You'll hear that the “wheel of topics” decides to acknowledge the fact that starting a new job can feel overwhelming. You have new coworkers, new management styles, unfamiliar commutes, and all the anxieties that come with leaving your comfort zone. But I'll highlight how, rather than rushing into decisions, it's important to give yourself time to adjust. Determine whether the discomfort is just temporary or something deeper. We also discuss some practical ways to reframe the experience: remembering why you left your last job, focusing on the excitement that made you accept this one, and even writing out reminders of what you didn't like about your old position. There is so much value in talking things out with the right people - trusted friends, partners, or even your manager, who likely wants you to succeed just as much as you do. Most of all, though, we strongly urge professionalism. Whether you decide to stay or eventually move on, how you handle the situation truly matters. Burned bridges can close doors, while respectful conversations can open new ones. If you've ever felt uneasy in a new role, or are going through it right now, this episode offers both reassurance and actionable advice, and we remind listeners that new job regret is common, often temporary, and always worth approaching with patience, honesty, and perspective! Key Takeaways: Identify the root cause of new job regret, whether it be coworkers, management, commute, or overall discomfort. Give yourself at least three months before making major decisions about leaving. Revisit why you left your old job and what excited you about the prospect of this new one. Talk it out with the right people such as trusted friends, your manager, or your recruiter. If leaving does become necessary, do it respectfully to avoid burning bridges and protect future opportunities. Thanks again for listening to Leaving The Nest! The Government Accountability Office has found that a decades old pay adjustment cap on the federal wage system pay rates is still the most consequential challenge to the Defense Department's efforts to recruit and retain blue collar workers. Even if all the other challenges get addressed, little will change for the recruitment and retention of those workers, as long as the pay adjustment cap remains in effect. A 68-0 win over Akron was a lot of fun, and Nebraska (should) take care of Houston Christian without of a game this weekend…and then Michigan comes to town with a chance for the Huskers to be 4-0 and get a marquee home win When you're punching down the 2 weeks prior to it…how difficult is it to adjust to a tougher opponent? Jason Walker and Eric Frandsen talk the latest in local Cache Valley sports on 106.9 FM / 1390 AM The FAN, starting with an interview with Utah State men's basketball associate head coach Eric Haut. The next player on the Top 25 Aggies of 2025 is revealed -- linebacker John Miller. The College Football Playoff committee is adjusting their criteria for their rankings, placing a higher emphasis on strength of schedule. The Athletic is ranking NBA teams' off-seasons, where do the Utah Jazz rank among the 30 NBA squads? There is more expansion coming to the Pac-12! But it's just in baseball...(though it's still a good addition).
On Thursday's episode, we made our predictions for Michigan's impending sanctions coming out of the Conor Stallions saga. On Friday, the verdict came in. Ross Dellenger may now also be called Nostradamus because he was spot on with his predictions. Over $30-million in fines and a three-game suspension for head coach Sherrone Moore were the main highlights from the ruling. Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey join Ross in recapping the reaction to the ruling and discussing where Michigan goes from here.Expanding the College Football Playoff has been a talking point since the format's inception. It has grown from four to twelve teams, but that does not seem to be enough to some in college football. While sixteen seems to be a natural progression, a much larger number was suggested recently. Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti threw out the idea of a 28-team playoff and sent the college football world into an uproar. Was this suggestion just a ruse for a more preferable plan? Why was this the only playoff idea that was reported on? How realistic is a 28-team playoff? The guys answer all of these questions and more as they look toward the future of the College Football Playoff.Later in the show, they discuss Virginia Tech's athletic director, Whit Babcock, and his presentation to the university's Board explaining where college football is headed and his pressing need for more funding. What might a super league look like in the college football landscape and how close are we to its arrival? Is the constant desire for change and money ruining the sport for the fans? Andy, Ross and Steven explain the crossroads college football is at after Babcock's comments. Finally, there was a recent change in the FPI over the weekend. A change that came without any games being played and not much notable news that affects the product on the field. Some SEC teams were bumped up and some ACC teams were knocked down. This appears to be all the motivation needed for SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee to call the system out for being “rigged.” The guys discuss coach Lashlee's comments and give their own thoughts on the importance of the FPI.Plus, the guys end the show with some breaking news about Auburn and the four new national football titles they picked up somewhat arbitrarily on Tuesday morning! Chiropractic does not treat symptoms through physical, mental or pharmacological modalities.
Growing your practice isn't about gimmicks or the newest technology. It's about what your subconscious communicates about the true power of the adjustment. Stop searching for shortcuts, let the purity of Chiropractic do the work. How's the Atlas in your community? Are they aware of the problems they face? Teach them what it means to live clear, and watch your influence, and practice, flourish. Visit WakeUpHumans.org to grab Steve Judson's books and gear.
