Original broadcast date February 27, 2020. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/02/binary-system-podcast-212-parasite-comic-books-and-random-sci-fi/ So the plan was to have a quick talk about an Oscar-winning film and a debriefing on the events of last weekend. It spun out of control within the first fifteen minutes, of course. Listen in as we go over Parasite (many many spoilers), Snowpiercer, Inception, the trailer for the upcoming Netflix Transformers series, the firing of Didio, the books we're reading, the conventions we're getting ready for, twitter's dumpster fire Windblade “discussion,” and more made-up stories about our sponsor. Prefer your podcasts in YouTube form? You're in luck! https://youtu.be/RGmPTNvzv7k This week's outro is a clip from Mirrors by Superhumanoids from their Parasite Paradise album. https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Superhumanoids/Parasite_Paradise/02_-_Superhumanoids_-_Mirrors Correction: the dish cooked in Parasite was called Ramdon, and it's a real thing (combination of Ramen and Udon) and you can find the recipe and a lot of cool information about it here. https://uproxx.com/life/ram-don-recipe-parasite-movie/ Correction the second: Windblade is Flame Toys' first attempt at a female transformer model, they haven't tried an Arcee. (Yet.) Correction the third: yes there is a ton of information about lightsaber crystals and most of it seems to be perfectly canon, we should've checked out Wookiepedia first. https://uproxx.com/life/ram-don-recipe-parasite-movie/ And a clarification: Kathryn mentioned needing to pick up bondo before NC Comicon in March. We probably should have mentioned it's for the EmojiBot helmet, we went into more detail in last week's episode. https://pixelatedgeek.com/2020/02/binary-system-podcast-211-wtnv-162-alpha/ Since there's a lot going on in this episode, here's a breakdown of the timeline: Snowpiercer at 12:20 Inception at 14:32 Netflix Transformers Trailer 17:15 Wildblade model twitter dumpster fire 18:50 Dan Didio and DC stuff 31:50 Andrew Hunter Murray's The Last Day 34:04 T. Kingfisher's latest book 35:43 Character based on our sponsor, and general Star Wars 36:50 Update on the Emojibot cosplay creation and convention plan updates 41:30
A new little investigator, Sarah, who happens to know a few secrets herself, joins the group for a brief stint. At the Young house, Truck Buckman manages to draw a sympathetic Suzy Petrovic out of the house while Stacie Lawson runs in to search the place (or did she walk?). While Trip Bucksworth and John Woo-Tang continue to sadly strike out wherever they go, they do find new purchase in the role as the group's Advanced Team. Stacie Lawson heads over to Dr. Stacey Billings place (yea, it's confusing) and strikes up the sparks, leading to unanticipated reveals. Her killer frosé recipe may have greased the wheels. Superhumanoids are a trio from Los Angeles who make dreamy, R&B infused, electronic pop songs that are deceptively airy. With their hazy vocals and melodies, the band are definitely working within a mysterious aesthetic but they’ve also got a penchant for unexpected pop hooks and arrangements. Their debut LP, Exhibitionists, was released on August 6 via Innovative […]
