Why do some talented composers consistently land sync placements while others keep getting overlooked? In this episode of TAXI TV, music library owner, composer, and longtime TAXI member Chuck Henry shares the common mistakes he sees from the library side of the sync business—mistakes that can quietly cost composers valuable placements. After decades in the industry, Chuck has reviewed thousands of submissions and worked with composers at every level. Surprisingly, many of the errors that hurt placement opportunities aren't made by beginners—they're made by experienced writers who simply don't realize what's holding them back. In this episode, you'll learn: Common sync licensing mistakes that hurt placement potential What music libraries wish composers understood Why great music alone isn't always enough Submission and production issues that raise red flags How to improve your chances of getting signed and placed What successful composers do differently Chuck also shares his inspiring journey from teaching piano lessons and performing in retail stores to becoming a successful composer and the CEO of a music library. Whether you're writing production music, composing for TV and film, or building a sync catalog, this conversation could save you years of trial and error. Join us live and learn how to avoid the mistakes that can quietly kill sync opportunities before they ever reach a music supervisor, editor, or library.
Making a Scene Presents - The Collapse of Gatekeepers: What Happens When Artists Own Everything The Old Doors Are Still Standing, But the Locks Are Breaking For most of the modern music business, artists were trained to stand in line. Stand in line for the label. Stand in line for the radio programmer. Stand in line for the booking agent. Stand in line for the publicist. Stand in line for the playlist editor. Stand in line for the platform algorithm. Stand in line, wait your turn, be grateful, and maybe somebody with a desk, a budget, and a parking spot near the front of the building would decide your music was worth putting in front of people. That was the deal. The artist made the music. The gatekeeper owned the road. http://www.makingascene.org
Why are most brands still stuck licensing royalty-free tracks nobody recognizes while short-form content runs on music? This week, we're sharing a conversation Jade Prieboy had at SXSW with Ferris Bseiso, founder of Cipher Music, breaking down how TikTok rewrote the economics of sync licensing, why major brands are getting hit with eight-figure copyright lawsuits over Instagram posts, and how Cipher is creating a volume-driven sync market designed specifically for the creator economy. Also on this episode, Jade and Dmitri swap takeaways from Music Biz in Atlanta and Mo Forum in New York. They dig into AI voice cloning and the concept of style laundering, Andrea Gleason's provocative idea about generative AI and streaming platforms, the rise of institutional catalog investment from companies like Apollo and Primary Wave, and what the KISS hologram deal signals about the future of artist IP. Music, technology, and internet culture are colliding in real time. This episode is right in the middle of it. Music copyright and sync licensing can make you more money in 30 seconds than streaming does in a year — if you know the rules .In this episode of Ajani's Blue Room, I sit down with Jessica Alvarez — CEO of Sync Musa, music supervisor, producer, and educator with 25+ years in the music industry — to break down exactly what it takes to get your music placed in film, TV, and games.
Join Sync Producer Hub: https://www.syncproducerhub.com This episode highlights a wave of community wins: composers landing placements, signing with music libraries and publishers, and getting selected for new series and briefs. It also covers sync licensing industry trends—why 2026 favors independent producers, rising international demand, production-music growth, and how AI affects copyright and workflows—plus practical tips on pitching, collaboration risks, and using tools like Claude to speed production.
Most independent musicians trying to break into sync licensing are focused on the wrong problem. They're concerned about mix quality, metadata, and whether their instrumental version is ready. And those things matter. But according to Chris SD, founder of Sync Songwriter, they're not what's standing between your music and a placement in film or television. The real barrier is access — and access comes from relationships, not submissions. Chris built his reputation over years of networking, conferences, phone calls, and showing up in person — and once literally taking a music supervisor to a beach picnic. Those relationships are now the foundation of what he offers his students: not just sync education, but direct introductions to the gatekeepers who make placement decisions. Two of his students had five songs placed in Anora, the film that won multiple Oscars in 2025. His take on how that happened is straightforward — they had relationships with the supervisor, and theirs was the right music for the project. In this conversation, Chris shares what sync-ready actually means (and why production is the easier part of the problem), why writing for your fans beats writing for sync every time, how he built trust with music supervisors that now extends to his students, and why AI's impact on the sync landscape isn't as dire as many independent artists fear. Making a Scene Presents - Why Micro-Sync Licensing Should Be Part of Every Independent Songwriter's Business Plan There was a time when independent songwriters were told to build a career around a miracle. Write the great song. Record the great track. Get it in the right room. Hope the right person hears it. Maybe a publisher. Maybe a supervisor. Maybe a label-connected gatekeeper who still pretends the industry runs on taste instead of leverage. Then, if the stars line up, maybe that song lands in a TV show, a commercial, a trailer, a game, or a film, and suddenly everybody acts like the system worked because one person got through the wall. That story still gets told because it sounds romantic. It also keeps a lot of songwriters broke. http://www.makingascene.org
Is there an age limit for success in sync licensing? For decades, the traditional music industry favored youth, image, and marketability — leaving many talented songwriters, composers, producers, and artists believing their window of opportunity had closed. But does age actually matter when creating music for film, TV, advertising, and streaming media? In this episode of TAXI TV, Michael Laskow — founder and CEO of TAXI and a 50+ year music industry veteran — shares an honest look at how age, perception, and experience really affect opportunities in today's sync licensing world. You'll learn: • Whether “older” musicians are at a disadvantage in sync • Why film & TV music operates differently from the record business • The surprising advantages experience can bring • Common misconceptions that stop talented creators from submitting music • How the sync industry evaluates music vs. record labels If you've ever wondered whether it's too late to break into music licensing, this conversation may change how you see your opportunities.

Click here to level up your sync career ➡️ https://blackfriday.syncproducerhub.com In this episode of Sync Producer Spotlight host Jason interviews guest Anthony Clint Jr., founder of the Sync Producer Hub. They discuss the hot topic of AI in music — whether AI will replace human creators, how publishers and supervisors currently view AI-generated music, and practical, ethical ways to use AI in the sync workflow. Key topics include real-world AI use cases (chord suggestions, metadata generation, artwork, lyric transcription), which genres and sync needs are more "AI-proof" (cinematic blends, custom scoring, collaborative production), and how to protect your work from data scraping and legal pitfalls highlighted by recent lawsuits. Anthony also explains the value of community, branding and visibility, introduces the new Sync Producer Hub AI Suite, and leaves listeners with practical advice: adapt to the tools, don't be driven by fear, and leverage human skills like team management and customization to stay competitive.

Kansas City based songwriter Amy Ward responded to a call to action to submit a proposed theme song to celebrate the 15th anniversary for my Tasty Brew Music Radio Show. Although, like Tica Felise from our last Tasty Brew Music Podcast episode, I did not ultimately choose Amy's submission, I thought her offering compelling enough to want to know more about her music. I brought her into the radio station one Saturday Morning asI hosted the women-centric program “Siren Song.” As you will learn in this conversation, Ward often prepares songs for Sync Licensing, achieving hundreds of song placements on prime TV, Day Time TV, Major Motion Pictures and Independent Films. She has performed at renowned venues like Madison Square Garden, Kauffman Stadium and T-Mobile Center, as well as recognition on Fox 25 Boston and ABC's KMBC KansasCity. In films and television, she contributes as a songwriter, singer, and producer, including placement on Netflix progamming, and tv programs like Say Yes to the Dress, NCIS, General Hospital, Young & the Restless, toname a few.On the horizon, Amy lands two songs in the upcoming film,Viral - directed by Blair Underwood and her first song in an animated film , A Tooth Fairy Tale-in theaters and streaming now.
