#PICKLEPOD. Some of you may remember Tadd Fujisawa as the 15 year old hawaiian who qualified for the 2006 US Open then made the cut in the 2007 Sony Open in Hawaii. Well, Tadd would go on to play more than 10 years of pro golf after that only to be found by  a new passion that is now his full time gig, Pro Pickleball. Tadd is the head pickle ball pro at Sea Island and also travels around to some professional pickle ball tournaments to compete against other pros. As a total novice to what is now the fastest growing sport in america. This episode was basically a tutorial on the game to me, so if you are ready to get into the pickle scene, this episode may be for you! Hope everyone enjoys. What a Masters weekend it was! Hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell look at Scottie Scheffler's historic win at Augusta National and his chances to continue on this incredible run throughout the season. Plus, a look at Tiger's triumphant return to professional golf, and what we should expect now that he's back on the PGA Tour (1:57). On the fashion side of The Masters, Michael shares his least favorite looks from the pros out on the course during the season's first major (12:09). Alex gives us a behind the scenes look at his (half) day at Augusta National, breaking down everything as a first time patron at one of the most hallowed courses in golf (16:25). The Tour now heads to the coast for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island, the only venue that could possibly follow up the majesty that is Augusta National (32:50). In Tuned In, Michael is checking out the new HBO MAX series Tokyo Vice, while Alex is checking out with a little break to Marco Island, FL (34:23). This week's guest is Tadd Fujikawa, perhaps best known as the youngest golfer to qualify for the US Open, and to make a cut on a PGA Tour event. Tadd talks about his time on Tour, being the first openly gay male golfer, and his new life in Pickleball at Sea Island Resort in Georgia (36:29). Baseball kicked off its season on Thursday, and Michael is already able to rib Alex and his Red Sox after the Yankees took the opening series (1:00:39). Meanwhile, the NBA begins its extra long playoff season (1:13:12). As the guys #AlwaysEndWithFood, Alex shares just how special it was to feast at Augusta National, while Michael is feasting on s'mores babka with homemade marshmallows (1:14:58). Tadd Fujikawa has always shown himself to be a resilient spirit. From the time he was born (1 pound 15 ounces) - yes you read that correctly (3 months prematurely) to qualifying for the 2006 U.S. Open, the youngest golfer ever to do so at aged 15 to announcing in 2018 that he was gay, the first male professional golfer to do so to his activism to now reinventing himself as a pickleballer and professional golfer. He loves to cook. He is on a mission to help people in the LGBTQ+ community be comfortable with who they are and in Tadd's words, "can't wait for the day we all can live without feeling like we're different and excluded. A time when we can love the way we want to love and not be ashamed. We are all human and equal after all". And you don't want to miss our very famous rapid fire, "This or That" segment of the podcast. #PGA #Hawaii #LGBTQ+ #LGBTQ #LGBT #Equality #lgbt #queer #podcasts #podcastlife #podcasting #pride #podcaster #sportspodcast #PGATour #LPGA #ESPN #Golf #ProfessionalGolf #ProGolf #TheGolfChannel #GolfChannel #StopAsianHate #StopTheAsianHate #JapaneseAmerican #Japanese #American Check it out where ever you listen to your audio and video podcasts: (Now on) AUDIBLE: https://lnkd.in/gXAwci_9 Google: https://lnkd.in/gDN-XnKU iHeart: https://lnkd.in/e8SzqHz Apple: https://lnkd.in/gDdqxh8b Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gzR3peVj Check out the Video Podcast at: YOUTUBE: https://lnkd.in/gdUy4iH Instagram: @MikeHootner https://www.instagram.com/mikehootner/ Tik Tok: @MikeHootner https://lnkd.in/gc_dyuwX Twitter: @MikeHootner https://twitter.com/MikeHootner --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/support

“I had to relearn how to live and now I feel like I can be myself again. If was different, it was a learning curve which I didn’t expect and it was confusing at first. As far as golf went, I separated the two but in my life I had to relearn so many things. It was great because along the way I found pieces of myself again and I felt like I could be more authentic. The journey I’ve been on since coming out has been very good. Honestly, my golf game isn’t quite where I want it to be but I can say that I’ve never been happier and my mental health has never been better. I have a lot of aspirations that I do want to continue striving for but as of right now I’m happy and pleased with the person that I am and who I have become." ... Tadd Fujikawa is used to making history. In 2006 - at the age of just fifteen - the golfer became the youngest person to ever qualify for the US Open. And then a decade or so later, he came out as gay - something no male pro had ever done before. So what has life been like for Tadd in the time since he opened up publicly about his sexuality - and what has life been like since then? We've wanted to have him on the podcast for a long time - and we've finally managed to rig up the technology between Cornwall and Hawaii to make it happen. In this episode, Tadd talks openly and frankly about his journey - from first picking up a club in Hawaii to playing at the US Open to why visibility in sport is so, so important.
