In this episode of On the Mark, host Mark Immelman sits down with PGA TOUR winner Chris Gotterup to go inside the ropes—covering the real nuts and bolts behind elite performance: power, feel vs. technical thoughts, practice drills, putting improvement, and handling pressure when it matters most.  Chris shares what was happening in his mind and body during his playoff win at TPC Scottsdale, how he trains for speed without getting “too technical” in tournament weeks, and why communication with his caddie is one of the biggest keys to performing under the gun. In This Episode, You'll Discover:  What playoff pressure actually feels like—and how Chris handles it in real time How Chris thinks about power (and the setup tweaks he uses when he wants more distance) Why he avoids technical thoughts during tournament weeks (and saves them for offseason work) The “guardrails” approach: shaping shots without over-complicating your swing Training aids he uses (band, wrist device, HackMotion) and why they help Course management for different venues—Augusta vs. Harbour Town (and why mini driver matters) Putting improvement: start-line work, 3-putt avoidance, and speed training with Tim Yelverton Mental game under chaos (Waste Management), plus a playoff mindset: play to win Chris's favorite win breakdown—and what each victory taught him Key Themes:  Pressure Is Normal—It Means You Care Chris is clear: nerves show up at the highest level, and that's part of competing. Feel First (Tournament Week), Technique Later (Offseason) He'll work on mechanics away from competition, but once the tournament starts, he commits to what he brought that week. “Guardrails” Beat Constant Overhauls He stays inside a preferred shot pattern—then adjusts toward neutral when needed, rather than rebuilding mid-week. Communication Is a Performance Tool When things get loud or fast, Chris slows down by communicating clearly with his caddie about target, shape, and intent.   Episode Takeaways ➡ Power is useful—but it's only valuable if the next shot backs it up.  ➡ Feel-driven golf gets more reliable when you keep your swing inside simple “guardrails.”  ➡ Putting improves when you start with start-line, then build speed control and accountability.  ➡ Under pressure, slow down by communicating clearly—target, shape, and intent. Baden and Clappy are back to unpack a massive week in golf. They kick off at Harbour Town — a course that makes the case that great design, not a rolled-back ball, is how you defend par. From there it's a proper debate on the USGA's bifurcation plan: is it pointless engineering theatre, or the future of the pro game? The boys get into why slower swingers barely notice the change, the social awkwardness of "which ball are you playing?" at your home club, and why Trotty Golf reckons driver designers will claw every yard back anyway. Then it's ground reaction forces — the thing Baden famously doesn't have. Clappy breaks down the three flavours (lateral, vertical, rotary), why Scottie Scheffler slides and Matt Fitzpatrick pulls his front foot out of the way, and how understanding ground forces turned his clubhead speed from 116 to 132 mph. Plus a sharp take on why most 18-handicappers should be nowhere near a force plate. The back half dives into LIV's rumoured cash crunch, TaylorMade team rebrands, and the no-man's-land waiting for returning players like Cam Smith, Joaquin Niemann and DJ — while Patrick Reed serves out his suspension. Bryson's stirring up trouble again. And next week: golf media insider Luke Kerr-Dineen joins the pod.Grab a coffee. Plenty to chew on.

This week we dive into a busy stretch on the professional golf calendar with a full breakdown of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and a look overseas at the Volvo China Open. We start with Matthew Fitzpatrick's surge back into elite form after another huge win, this time taking down Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at Harbour Town. Will breaks down Fitzpatrick's recent ball-striking changes, his improved work on the greens, and why his confidence in big moments is pointing toward another major run. From there, the show turns to the RBC Heritage finish, Scheffler's weekend charge, the atmosphere at Hilton Head, and the debate around fan behavior, chants, and where the line should be drawn between energy and disrespect. Then it's on to the betting recap from last week before a full preview of the Zurich Classic, including weather concerns, alternate-shot strategy, and why certain pairings stand out in New Orleans. Will shares his favorite teams on the board, including standout thoughts on the Fitzpatrick brothers, Griffin/Novak, Thorbjornsen/Vilips, and Keefer/Brennan. The episode also heads to the DP World Tour for a Volvo China Open preview, with picks, sleepers, and a look at several rising names and dangerous local contenders. Andy, Brendan!, and Kevin Van Valkenburg check in from Scotland, recording this episode from separate bedrooms in the same house overseas. Andy declares a "Victory Monday" despite not publicly submitting his "pick" of Matthew Fitzpatrick to win the RBC Heritage on Wednesday's episode. Constable Fitzy took down Sheriff Scottie Scheffler at Harbour Town after one playoff hole, securing his second win of the 2026 season. The three discuss Fitzpatrick's ascent to the top five of the OWGR after being outside of the top 70 at this time last year and how working with Mark Blackburn could be a perfect personality match for the Englishman. The crowd in Hilton Head broke out USA chants down the stretch on Sunday, leading to Jim Nantz dropping the word "jingoistic" on the CBS broadcast. Brendan also points out two other stories from the week in an ill-timed club toss from Max Homa and another disappointing showing from Tony Finau. Attention then shifts to a busy week at LIV Mexico City, where Jon Rahm won again and Bryson DeChambeau withdrew with a wrist injury after complaining about course conditions earlier in the week. What does this latest Rahm win mean? Will LIV actually be back in Mexico City next year? Will Scott O'Neil find funding to keep the league alive moving forward? All of these questions are discussed at length after Brendan, Andy, and Kevin missed out on Friday's newsworthy episode about PIF pulling funding from the league. Brendan! joins The Boys for this Masters cleanup episode before jetting over to meet Andy in Scotland. Joseph immediately begins with some comments regarding his drive back to Atlanta alongside Brendan that featured 90s hip-hop and a spilled coffee in the precious GLS. From there, the trio wonder if Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler should just be the prohibitive Masters favorites for the next three or four years given their 1-2 finish this week without their "A games." There's also some debate about whether Rory has surpassed Phil Mickelson in the all-time rankings of golf. PJ and Joseph watched the final round back on TV and shared some thoughts on Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, and Xander Schauffele that they didn't pick up on the ground on Sunday. The two also weigh in on the discourse surrounding the CBS broadcast, which was amplified even more by Kevin Kisner's comments making the rounds on X early Tuesday morning. Brendan then shifts the attention to the Schedule for the Week, beginning with a Signature Event at the RBC Heritage. Brendan openly states that there shouldn't be golf this week and sees the Heritage as a legacy event that will surely be impacted by the PGA Tour's ever-changing schedule and stance on wanting a piece of the monetary pie from the majors. He shares whispers from under the big tree at Augusta about these conversations and how big Tour sponsors may allocate their funds moving forward. With Andy out, PJ steps in and provides 5 Guys to Monitor This Week in Hilton Head, including one with an "unfair advantage" much like Rory allegedly had at ANGC. Joseph, PJ, and Brendan all make One-and-Done picks as Golf's Premier Gambling Podcast looks to stay hot after hitting a winner at the Masters.
