This week Andrew and Ted discuss the Apple TV original comedy "The Dink" starring Jake Johnson and Mary Steenburgen ... co-starring Ed Harris, Aaron Chen, Lynne Marie, and Cleo King. When a private tennis club finds it's core is being threatened by pickleball the club president (Harris), turns to obscure "duel challenge" in the club bi-laws to send the pickleball players packing. The club hosts a tennis tournament to find out who will represent the club side in the duel. Dustin (Johnson), who happens to be the son of the club president and former Junior Tennis phenom, ultimately wins the club championship and assumes that he will represent the club. His attitude changes after he injures himself and is prescribed pickleball as his physical therapy. There he falls in love with not only the game but with his partner Candace (Steenburgen) who is a number of years his senior. When it comes time for the duel the club pulls a last minute audible and subs Dustin with professional tennis player Andy Roddick. Dustin then takes over for the pickleball side of things and uses a forgotten rule to choose the game so instead of tennis Roddick and Dustin face off in a pickleball match. John McEnroe provides color analysis for the match from the stand as a spectator.

Even the most stubborn owners of a failing business eventually must face the facts that their business may never become profitable. LIV Golf is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).  The oil-rich nation’s investment conglomerate is worth more than $1 trillion.  It holds a variety of assets which are generally expected to deliver a reasonable rate of return to the fund. To date, LIV Golf has run through an estimated $5 billion of Saudi PIF funds during its first four years of operation. The sports media (chasing rumor after rumor hoping for bad news) pounced on a story this week that the Saudi PIF may be ending their support for LIV Golf soon. How soon?  No one knows. That hasn’t stopped the anti-LIV Golf crowd from generating headlines about a looming closure of the upstart league. LIV Golf president Scott O’Neill emerged Thursday prior to the opening round of the tour’s event in Mexico City to say that the league is fully funded through the August, 2026 season ending events. He was asked, “What about next year”?  No comment. At some point, every business needs to be able to stand on its own.  The Saudi group was initially excited and proud to begin a worldwide professional golf operation.  It hoped to rival the PGA Tour and the DP World (European) tours. Losing $1 billion per year only amounts to about 1% of the Saudi PIF assets. Make no question about it, the Saudis’ investment in LIV Golf has become a giant money pit with no end in sight. How did we get here? By early 2022, the Saudi PIF hired golf legend Greg Norman to put together a new worldwide golf league. Norman dangled plenty of bonus signing money (well over $100 million in several cases) to lure some of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars to jump leagues that spring. At least $1 billion would eventually be paid just to have these players under contract for three to four years (depending on each player’s negotiated deal).  American golf stars such as Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau all made the leap to LIV Golf. The new LIV Golf League initially offered tournament purses of $25 million (now up to $30 million) to a field of just 54 (or so) players.  That was nearly three times the $8 million average tournament purse being offered by the US-based PGA Tour. Each LIV event (prior to 2026 when the league went to a 72-hole format) initially featured a 54-hole competition. Reminder – LIV is the number 54 in Roman numerals.  In addition to individual titles, LIV golfers also participate on a season-long four-man team.  Every tournament pays an extra $5 million to the three teams posting the lowest total scores for the week. It appeared that money seemed to be no object to the Saudi PIF.  Each year has seen insufficient revenues to cover massive losses. LIV Golf plays more than half of its events outside of the United States.  That presents a big problem in trying to attract a US television audience. A tournament in Singapore, Australia, or South Africa will be played in a time zone which makes “live” TV coverage in the US quite unattractive to home viewers.  Who is going to watch golf on television during the overnight hours? LIV Golf’s actual on-air television coverage itself (which I find more interesting to watch than most PGA Tour events) has been hampered by poor distribution. The year 2025 brought the current television deal with FOX Sports.  However, finding LIV Golf on television from day-to-day on one of several different FOX outlets is akin to playing “Whack-a-Mole” daily. It’s quite confusing and almost as if FOX is intentionally trying to bury the golf coverage.  See for yourself at this link. The Saudi Public Investment Fund spent at least $1 billion just for signing bonuses for the players.  LIV Golf has then lost about $1 billion per year on bloated tournament purses and oversized operating expenses.  Television audiences have been shrinking (primarily due to lousy TV placement) instead of growing. The trends are not the friends of LIV Golf. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” That saying is often attributed to genius Albert Einstein.  It definitely applies to the Saudi owners of LIV Golf as Season #5 nears the halfway point. The media pounced on information which surfaced this week that LIV Golf is likely “toast” – perhaps even before the end of this season in late August. The usual suspects (including LIV Golf’s biggest “hater” – Brandel Chamblee at Golf Channel) have reacted with “I told you so!” glee. Not me. I fully admit to have been rooting for LIV Golf to find its niche in professional golf. Remember the ABA? My youthful self in the 1970’s was a big supporter of the American Basketball Association. I still shoot hoops with my ABA red, white, and blue basketball! The ABA’s innovative three-point shot helped to make its basketball games rather unique and more fun.  This creative new league also placed an emphasis on higher-scoring contests in contrast to the NBA’s more deliberate playing style of the 1970’s. The ABA placed franchises into growing markets such as Denver, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, and Louisville.  Yes, there were numerous franchise failures in the ABA.  The league was woefully undercapitalized and lost millions trying to play in weak markets. ABA franchises outbid the NBA for the services of future Hall-of-Fame stars like Julius (Dr. J.) Erving, Moses Malone, George Gervin, Rick Barry, Dan Issel, and David Thompson. The league also attracted a younger audience to games and on television to watch the league’s higher scoring and entertaining contests. In 1976, four ABA teams (Denver, San Antonio, Indianapolis and the Virginia Squires-turned New York/New Jersey Nets) agreed to join the NBA.  Salt Lake City was able to lure the NBA’s Jazz away from New Orleans to Utah a few years later in 1979. Some basketball fans laughed at the ABA’s basketball.  Many traditionalists made fun of the ABA’s 3-point line. Years later, it was the NBA which added four key ABA franchises and the league’s 3-point shot. Yes, the ABA helped to shape today’s NBA. Likewise, PGA Tour golfers have benefited from the presence of LIV Golf LIV Golf started poaching golfers away from the PGA Tour in 2022.  Almost immediately, the PGA Tour began raising its tournament purses to keep other remaining golf stars from contemplating their own exit to LIV. LIV Golf’s limited its fields to 54 (or so) golfers with “no-cut” events.  That insured every player would receive a minimum paycheck for their weekly efforts. By contrast, most PGA Tour events begin with a field of 144 to 156 golfers.  Half of the field is cut after the opening 36 holes. Those sent home early leave without earning a dime for their troubles that week. Taking its cue from LIV golf’s star-laden but smaller tournament fields, the PGA Tour began creating several “no cut” tournaments a few years ago featuring only the highest ranked 70 golfers.  That type of event may not have occurred without LIV Golf’s competitive presence. Some media critics have laughed at LIV Golf’s 4-man team competitions within each tournament. Perhaps the media should take note that the TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League) recently concluded its second year of indoor golf competitions.  This popular weekly made-for-television golf series features four-man teams comprised of top PGA stars! Let’s see.  Higher purses, smaller “no cut” fields, and team competitions.  None of those were on the scene for PGA players prior to LIV Golf’s entry in 2022. Truth – LIV Golf has been a flop in the US Competing in the United States against the established PGA Tour has been tougher than expected for LIV Golf.  Few top US golf courses have been willing to commit to months of course preparation and the financial obligations required to host a top-level men’s golf tournament. Several LIV Golf events in America have come and gone since 2022.  Cities like Houston, Dallas, Miami, Tulsa, and Chicago have hosted a LIV Golf tournament in previous years but not in 2026. This year’s remaining LIV Golf schedule brings the tour to several US markets.  LIV plays in northern Virginia/DC metro (May 7-10), New Orleans (June 25-28), New Jersey/NYC metro (August 6-9), and Indianapolis (August 20-23).  The LIV team competition season finale is in Detroit (August 27-30). Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and his economic development team have invested $5 million of state taxpayer dollars to pay LIV Golf to play its June 25-28 event at the newly renovated Bayou Oaks at City Park (formerly City Park South).  An additional $2 million is being spent right now to prepare this venerable public golf course for the upcoming LIV Golf tournament. Pinocchio would chuckle knowing that the Pelican State officials claim that the LIV Golf New Orleans event is going to inject $40 million into the local economy during late June. As a former resident of the New Orleans area, locals know why major hotels are readily available and cheaper during the summertime.  It is exceptionally hot and steamy in the Crescent City by late June.  The conditions may be miserable for both golf fans and the players. Regardless, the State of Louisiana is now holding its collective breath that LIV Golf won’t shut down operations prior to playing its inaugural New Orleans tournament in two months. Around the world, LIV Golf has been more successful Sold-out LIV Golf tournaments in Australia and South Africa this spring brought LIV’s group of top golf stars to golf-starved countries.  Fans openly welcomed the LIV Golf stars and seemed to enjoy the league’s party-like atmosphere. LIV Golf’s 2026 schedule has taken the golfers to Saudi Arabia (of course), Hong Kong, Singapore, and, this week, Mexico.  Upcoming overseas events are scheduled for South Korea (May 28-31), Spain (June 4-7), and the United Kingdom (July 23-26). The costs of taking the LIV Golf’s traveling show via jet to tournaments around the globe is staggering.  PGA Tour events in the US are usually scheduled within a one-day driving distance.  That reduces transportation costs for the television broadcast trucks, crews and players. The clock is ticking for LIV Golf Let’s give LIV Golf a mulligan for its first two years of operation.  Since then, the losses have continued to be unsustainable.  By any reasonable measure, LIV Golf should cut its losses and end operations by the end of the 2026 season in late August. Perhaps the Saudi Public Investment Fund might forge a partnership with the DP World Tour to bring men’s golf to worldwide locations where LIV Golf has performed well. The top names in LIV Golf have been paid multi-million dollar signing bonuses.  They’ll be fine.  The remaining talented golfers at LIV Golf will find another home to play professionally soon. Just like basketball’s ABA did for the stalwart NBA, LIV Golf has made a lasting impact upon professional golf and, especially, the PGA Tour. The fifth season of upstart LIV Golf teed-off today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  This year’s season opener is being played in the home country of the league’s $1 trillion owner, the Saudi Public Investment Fund. LIV Golf will feature some of golf’s top names like Americans Bryson DeChambeau and Phil Mickelson, Spain’s Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, and Australia’s Cam Smith.  Each is a major championship winner. Differentiating themselves from the PGA Tour, LIV Golf starts each round at the same time for all players.  With 57 golfers in the field, they are positioned at each of the 18 tee boxes as a shotgun start begins play.  The daily playing conditions are identical for all golfers.  I really do like that concept. You’ll still find LIV Golf’s unique 4-player team concept this season, too. A significant pool of prize money is paid to the top three golf teams which have the lowest composite scores at the conclusion of each tournament.  This encourages every golfer – from first to last place – to try harder to help their team’s score. You will continue to hear music being played over loud speakers around the course during play. It doesn’t seem to affect the players one way or the other.  LIV Golf seems to think the music turns their golf tournament into a party for the fans. SwampSwami Rant ALERT!  LIV Golf’s US TV viewers must play “FOX Sports Whack-a-Mole” to watch the action this season The 14 LIV Golf events in 2026 (with only four being played in the US) will be televised again by FOX Sports.  Good luck trying to find the action on television from day to day. Today’s first round in Saudi Arabia began on FS1.  Two hours later, viewers were told to migrate over to FS2 to continue watching the golf action. Note to LIV Golf.  Not many US cable providers carry FS2 unless you pay for the highest price option.  I don’t.  To watch LIV Golf on television again this year, you will need a combination of the following channel options from day-to-day during their tournaments: Your local FOX TV affiliate FS1 FS2 Fox Business Network Fox Sports App (internet) The same issues occurred last year.  Sadly, it is being repeated in 2026. The US channel-surfing options might be more tolerable if LIV would simply offer a simulcast of the entire televised round via an internet (perhaps on a LIV Golf app?) as a service to viewers. LIV Golf needs the ratings support, so please make viewing as easy as possible. This maddening game of “Fox Sports Whack-a-Mole” is a major pain for American golf fans.  This should have been addressed and resolved during the lengthy off-season. These golfers said “Goodbye to LIV” In late December, it was five-time golf major champion Brooks Koepka walking out of LIV Golf’s door as he has announced a decision to rejoin the PGA Tour. Last week, former Masters champion Patrick Reed announced that he was no longer under contract with LIV Golf for 2026.  He wants to return to the PGA Tour just like Brooks Koepka. Keep in mind that LIV Golf doled out over $150 million in signing bonuses – just to snare both Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed less than four years ago. Koepka worked a deal with the PGA Tour and competed at last week’s stop in San Diego. Patrick Reed’s defection from LIV Golf came just one week before his former LIV Golf four-player team called the 4 Aces was set to start the 2026 golf season. That left LIV Golf’s 4 Aces a card short today. Team captain Dustin Johnson and Belgium’s Thomas Detry and Thomas Pieters scrambled to find a sub to take Patrick Reed’s spot in this week’s season opening event. Reed pocketed over $42 million in tournament earnings over his four seasons with LIV Golf starting in 2022.  That money was in addition to his initial signing bonus. The PGA Tour will not allow Patrick Reed to return for at least 12 months after his last appearance in a LIV Golf event (August, 2025). In the meantime, Patrick Reed quickly scored a victory ten days ago while playing on the DP World (formerly European) Tour.  He plans to enter several more European events this spring and summer until he is cleared to return to the PGA Tour in late summer. Na, Na, Na, Na…Hey, Hey, Hey…The LIV story…of Kevin Na Five-time PGA Tour winner Kevin Na also took the leap to LIV Golf in June, 2022.  The 42-year old Na had quietly amassed $38 million in PGA Tour earnings over his 17-year career. Kevin Na was made team captain of LIV Golf’s Iron Heads Golf Club four-man team in 2022.  He did not win a tournament at LIV Golf but still managed to pocketed more than $11 million in four seasons. Surprisingly, South Korean-born Kevin Na was recently booted off of his own LIV golf team! He was replaced with journeyman PGA golfer Ben An.  The LIV Golf team then renamed itself the “Korean Golf Club” for 2026. Ironically, one of the team’s current players is New Zealand citizen Danny Lee. Lee was born in South Korea.  His family moved to New Zealand when he was eight years old. Upon getting booted from LIV Golf, Kevin Na has also requested to be allowed back onto the PGA Tour.  His reinstatement status has not been announced. Pat Perez packed-up his LIV Golf bag, too Former LIV golfer Pat Perez (a three-time PGA Tour winner) is also seeking his PGA Tour reinstatement.  The 49-year old Perez was cut by LIV Golf after a dismal 2024 season but returned as their on-course television announcer in 2025. Like Kevin Na, Pat Perez is waiting to hear when he will be allowed to tee-it up again on the PGA Tour.  Perez will turn 50 in March and may opt to play on the PGA Champions (senior) Tour at some point. The biggest question remains – Will LIV’s top draw Bryson DeChambeau stay or go after this season? The charismatic 32-year old Bryson DeChambeau won the US Amateur title and later added two US Open major championships to his trophy case. In 2022, DeChambeau pocketed a reported $125 million signing bonus from LIV Golf to join the fledgling golf tour.  He has earned another $50 million in tournament winnings during his four seasons playing for LIV Golf. Bryson DeChambeau has worked hard to build his own personal brand.  His YouTube channel attracts millions of mostly younger viewers. DeChambeau’s popularity has been one of the few bright spots for the LIV Golf brand.  His four-man LIV Golf team called the Crushers is a fan favorite, too. Bryson DeChambeau’s contract with LIV Golf will expire at the end of the tour’s 2026 golf season this August. Word has it that he is asking for upwards of $500 million to sign a contract extension to remain with the Saudi-backed golf group. LIV Golf didn’t help matters if they wanted DeChambeau to stick around One recent change for the 2026 LIV Golf season has not set well with the popular Bryson DeChambeau. LIV (which is “54” in Roman numerals) played 54-hole golf tournaments over three days in previous years.  This helped to differentiate the league from the PGA Tour’s 72-hole four-day events. A stodgy organization calling itself “Official World Golf Rankings” assigns numerical rankings to professional golfers.  Their board of directors was unwilling to grant any points to top finishers for the LIV Golf for the past four years due to its 54-hole events. That issue has been a sore spot for LIV golfers since the league’s first season in 2022. The OWGR rankings are used to determine which golfers receive invitations to play in some of golf’s four major events. The LIV golfers have earned zero ranking points the past four years.  Top players keep falling down the world rankings list. LIV’s Jon Rahm was ranked #1 at the time he signed with LIV Golf three years ago.  Despite winning twice over the past three seasons and rarely finishing out of the top ten, Jon Rahm had dropped all the way to #96 in World Golf Rankings this week. To appease the overlords of rankings, LIV Golf will start playing 72-hole events this season. The World Ranking body announced Tuesday that LIV Golf’s top ten weekly finishers will now be awarded points for the new 72-hole events. Bryson DeChambeau spoke up recently that the initial premise for LIV Golf was to be different than the PGA Tour.  He had been in favor of maintaining the 54-hole tournaments to bring more focus and urgency to golfers on the course each day. “It’s definitely changed away from what we had been initially told it was going to be,” said DeChambeau.  He added, “We didn’t sign-up to play 72 (holes).” What happens if Bryson DeChambeau decides to leave LIV Golf after this season? DeChambeau is one of the league’s biggest draws.  His enthusiastic personality and famous length off the tee has been a fan magnet for LIV Golf. The PGA Tour won’t admit it publicly, but they would love to see Bryson DeChambeau return to help put the proverbial nail into LIV Golf’s coffin. Yes, LIV Golf would still have former World #1 golfer Jon Rahm under contract as its best player.  Australia’s Cam Smith and 53-year old Phil Mickelson still have plenty of LIV fans, too. Though LIV Golf has lost an estimated $2 billion during its first four seasons, the Saudi Public Investment Fund seems quite proud of simply owning a worldwide golf league.   Oil money literally flows out of the ground and right into their bank to replace the massive losses of LIV Golf. The PGA Tour has started to lure several of its more popular golfers by offering a more family-friendly US-based tour.  LIV Golf’s far-flung worldwide events have made it difficult on golfers with young families like Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed. The reputation of LIV Golf is starting to sink as more top golfers bail-out and return to the PGA Tour. The loss of Bryson DeChambeau after the 2026 LIV Golf season would be quite difficult to overcome. This would seem to be a great time for LIV Golf to broker a peace deal with the PGA Tour.  Allow golfers on both pro tours a chance to participate in a limited number of events on either tour every year. The hits just keep on coming early in this 2026 golf season: Patrick Reed is BACK on the PGA Tour... in August. Andy and Brendan begin this episode with some other breaking news regarding a beloved recurring bit possibly coming to an end and some more details about the SGS Live Show coming to Evanston on Thursday, February 12. They then dive into the biggest news of Thursday: Tony Finau's new Jordan Brand clothing. After a conversation about fashion, Andy and Brendan discuss Patrick Reed's decision to leave LIV Golf and play the DP World Tour in 2026 before returning to the PGA Tour in 2027. Andy deems that LIV deserves this outcome of losing its stars following a FOX Sports graphic promoting the season opener that misspelled the names of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, and Martin Kaymer (henceforth known as Martin Kraymer on this podcast). This Wednesday episode was once again recorded LIVE on YouTube in an effort to have some fun during "silly season." Andy believes that "golf is back!" and Brendan immediately shares that Dustin Johnson might agree with him. DJ is in the Philippines this week for an Asian Tour event and is excited to grow the game alongside some of his LIV leaguemates and other YouTube golfers. Dustin shared some enlightening thoughts on the host course for this International Series tournament, calling it "a golf course" and allowing his "good caddie" to scout the course and tell him where to hit it. Brendan is giddy about these DJ quotes and gets Andy going on DJ's future in majors now that his exemptions are up. Keegan Bradley is also pondering his future these days, wondering if he'll ever get a chance to play in the Ryder Cup again. At Travelers media day, Keegan shared that the last few weeks have been some of the toughest of his life and that the loss at Bethpage will follow him forever. He did state that his goal is to play at Adare Manor, though, so he's got that going for him for the next two years. A B. Draddy ad read turns into a bit of an Illinois Minute with Andy and Brendan debating if the Illini can find their way into the College Football Playoff this winter. The Schedule for the Week kicks off with the Bank of Utah Championship and the PGA Tour's return to the lava rocks. Andy and Brendan are excited for a weekend of captivating TV viewing at Black Desert Resort with a strong field for a FedEx Fall event. Notably not in the field is Jordan Spieth, who currently sits at 56th in the standings heading into next season. Brendan declares Spieth "MIA" and calls out sponsor exemptions for Signature Events taking away from the fields at events that need big-name players. There's some cocktail golf this week for the east coast in the form of the LPGA's International Crown, and Tommy Gainey is on the bubble of the Champs Tour finals in Phoenix. Brendan runs through some notables for Q-School and Andy anoints the Billy Horschel Invitational Presented by Cisco as the "Event of the Week." In events that have ended, the Butterfield will have a D2 golfer from Lee University in the field after a win at a recent college event. The news roundup begins with Jack Nicklaus winning a $50 million lawsuit, leading to a wider discussion about clubs overspending and youth sports. Lastly, the NBA starts up tonight and the PGA Tour is in Utah, so Andy ends the show with a much-needed Jazz Minute!

This episode is full of Friday whimsy, as Andy and Brendan cover a variety of topics to send you into the weekend. Andy begins by asking questions about Ryder Cup eligibility for the latest honorary Texan. Brendan reveals that Thursdays are now known as "Diet Friday" after sharing today's Masters Fact of the Day. Speaking of Masters facts, Andy then provides an early weather update for Augusta, making sure he gets out in front of this upcoming catnip. After a recap of PJ's night at a Mumford & Sons concert on Wednesday night, updates are provided on the Hero Indian Open and the Houston Open. DLF was featured on Design Disasters on Thursday morning after caddies wrote in to complain about the 17th hole, and Matt Jordan is in contention with his standard first-round 69. In Houston, Tosti finds himself in the early lead, making Andy wonder what would happen if Tosti found himself in the field at Augusta National. LIV Golf announced its own Creator Classic, with a similar group of creators playing alongside pros at LIV Miami. PGA Tour member Wes Bryan is playing with Dustin Johnson, which has Andy do some journalism to ask if he'll be suspended from the PGA Tour as a result of his participation. At long last, some Golf Advice emails are read before Brendan has a quick Flashback Friday segment about Vijay Singh and how international players adjusted to the Houston Open in the early 2000s.

Andy and Brendan went LIVE on YouTube immediately following the finish at Bay Hill and were fired up after a packed weekend of pro golf. Off the top, they discuss Russell Henley chasing down Collin Morikawa to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his first win in over 850 days. Andy and Brendan chat about Henley's current place among the game's top players, his Ryder Cup candidacy, and his tournament-winning chip-in on the 16th hole that NBC missed thanks to a Rolex commercial. They then move on to Collin Morikawa and his performance at Bay Hill. Morikawa was unable to close, blowing a three-shot lead on the back nine and is still searching for his first win since 2023. Other notes on API include Keegan Bradley's record-breaking Sunday, Michael Kim's rise up the OWGR ranks, and Sepp Straka's continued strong play. Next, Andy and Brendan give some props to Karl Vilips for his win at the Puerto Rico Open, becoming the first player to win on the PGA Tour in Sun Day Red apparel. From there, the two touch on the Blue Bay LPGA and the Joburg Open before a lengthy discussion about LIV Hong Kong. Sergio Garcia won the individual title and is continuing to push for a spot on a Team Europe at Bethpage. Phil Mickelson also showed some life, finishing in third place and bringing the HyFlyers to the podium for the first time ever.
