Donald J. Trump, the 45th and 47th President of the United States has faced unparalleled public persecution as the nominee and now President. The first time around, many people in his own party we're afraid to align with Donald J. Trump because politicians had never seen anything like this ever before in Amerikkkan history. We had seen it in Nazi, Germany. But, no one knew what to make of the big lie. Just like a newly hired coach, President Trump unbeknownst to probably even himself (ironic since he's a narcissist), changed the culture in Washington. He cleaned house. He didn't care about the collateral damage. He was going to do things his way. And the second time around? The convicted felon doubled down. And tripled down. And we are seeing more and more people flock to his coattails because they we're sick of Hillary, Joe, the border, and high egg prices. The NCAA messed things up for decades. And now they are paying the price for their mistakes. Similarly, the democrats have alienated it's own base because of it's extreme views and policies and not being relatable to many Americans, namely uneducated white middle-aged men. Donald Trump and his team are implementing as many policy changes as possible at once to create confusion and exhaustion and so far it's working. History will reveal itself. But in this episode, I discuss why I think what he's doing is working and what to be wary of in the end because silence and denial will only increase the odds that history will repeat itself.
Nick Lowery, Kansas City Chiefs Hall-Of-Famer, has been on a path of servitude for 50 years and he's not looking to stop any time soon. In this episode, we discuss his early years during the civil rights while growing up in a house where his mother and father we're serving their countries. And today, you will hear the rest of the story including his work with the youth, the homeless, 3 Presidents, and how it took him 12 attempts before he finally made it in the NFL.
Caitlin Clark is a generational talent and has forever changed the face of the WNBA and women's sports. She was voted Time magazine's Athlete-of-the-Year and some of her comments rubbed some people the wrong way. I thought they we're compassionate, passionate, and spot on. Crystal Bradford has on the other hand gone flown under the radar. She is attempting another comeback, her 3rd to be exact in hopes to return to the WNBA. She is playing for Athletes Unlimited for the second year in a row and she is unquestionably one of the most skilled women's basketball players in the world. Hands down. She makes a team instantly better because of her length, ability to finish at the basket, at the mid-range level and behind the arc and defensively. She can guard any one of the five positions on the floor and is an incredible leader and communicator.
Join Jon, Gordon and Mike talking sports, Covid, and Sports Psychology for their inaugural pilot episode, The Sports Deli. Featuring guests Dr. Robert Baldwin, Dr. Jason Novetsky, and Podcast extraordinaire, Wendell Wallace!
For all of the obvious reasons, Caitlin Clark, the face of women's basketball should be on the Olympic team. Taylor Swift has had to endure a million times what any man has had to endure, especially white men, and in particular the privileged white quarterbacks in the @NFL like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Eli and Peyton Manning, Tony Romo and Troy Aikman. Taylor Swift has been sexually assaulted, cancelled by Kanye West, had to overcome mental health challenges, and navigate the space of being the most popular musical artist in the history or herstory of the industry. She's more popular than Madonna, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Elvis, Mariah, and Beyonce. Maybe not combined but it's close. Tom Brady won 7 rings. Taylor Swift has not only impacted but changed and saved the lives of 100s of millions. Tom has done nothing but be so self-absorbed and wrapped up in his own narcissistic personal life and failed business endeavors. He has not leveraged his platforms as a 7 time Super Bowl Champion, WNBA part-owner or NFL part-owner to do the right thing. Tom could have leveraged his platforms and still could and galvanize his white quarterback troops to give Colin Kaepernick another chance, still. But his silence is deafening. Had he kneeled with Colin, Colin would still be playing today. Had other Major League Baseball players kneeled with Bruce Maxwell, Bruce would still be playing. It is a sad commentary about all of them including Jim Nantz, Jim Harbaugh, and anyone else with platforms like Doug Gottlieb, Colin Cowherd, Dan Patrick or Jim Rome that they will not come together to put the pressure on the owners to give Colin and Bruce a shot. There will never be another Taylor Swift. But if Caitlin Clark can change a league. Tom could have done the same thing. And still could. We're waiting Tom. Aaron. Peyton. Eli, Tony. and Troy. Speaking out about mental health is phenomenal. I'm glad you all did that. But it's not enough. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support

Kim Mulkey and coaches in my opinion should leverage their respective platforms to amplify mental health, anti-bullying, and all marginalized communities and people. Coaches have access to platforms many don't and can do so much more. Instead of wearing nice outfits and bling, howabout similar to how Lance Armstrong raised 100s of millions for cancer research and awareness via his LiveStrong brand, namely a $1 bracelet, wearing clothes, hats and more that could do so much more. Next up is my thoughts on Dan Lanning, Head Coach of the Oregon Ducks and why I think he missed a golden opportunity. Where is the support for Colin Kaepernick? All he wanted was to have a chance at an NFL practice squad and instead, he has to again settle, this time in the CFL, the Canadian Football League. And finally, whether you love her or hate her, you cannot argue with the receipts that Taylor Swift and her Swifties bring to the cities she visits. And could this change the NFL economically as well, in particular for female viewers because of her rumored relationship with Kansas City Chiefs Tight End and future Hall-Of-Famer, Travis Kelce? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support
Deion and the black and brown community have had naysayers and gas lighters for years, decades and centuries. Not only is it monumentally more difficult for black and brown coaches to secure head coaching jobs in the NFL and at the collegiate level but they don't get as much of a chance once they are afforded an opportunity and they aren't recycled like white coaches. Deion deserves our support for so many reasons. He is staring NIL, Free Agency (the transfer portal), Alabama, Michigan, and Georgia smack dab in the face. Furthermore, he's backing it up. What he did at Jackson State was nothing short of incredible. And what he's done at Colorado is unreal. Never have we ever said that Deion Sanders and Colorado are phenomenal for college football. That's been reserved in the past for the Michigan's, the Ohio School, the Florida's, The Alabama's, and the Nick Saban's. Not any more. And Coach Prime? Wear your sunglasses as much as you want at your press conferences. People trying to tell you how to go about your business is ridiculous. I cannot sometimes with people. Mark Gottfried was one of the coaches that gave me a chance to work at UCLA's basketball camp when I was a first year coach. He was always there if I had a question even though he was coaching at the likes of UCLA, Alabama, and NC State. He never forgot the man that gave him his first big shot, Jim Harrick at UCLA and he has been paying it forward ever since with his assistants while mentoring them to be head coaches themselves one day. I truly enjoyed our conversation that spanned from his earliest years witnessing his dad and uncle as college coaches to being a part of the transfer portal himself as a player to what he learned from his mistakes along the way. He's most proud besides the on-court success of his relationships with his former players - many of which he still talks to today. Finally, you don't want to miss who he would like to have at his dinner table if he could choose any 5 people past or present dead or alive to have a meal with him. He's a dad of 5 wonderful kids who he's so proud of and does not rule out a return to coaching. Mahmoud Abdul Rauf was Colin before Colin, Kobe before Kobe and Steph Curry before Steph Curry. That's real. He was destined for the Hall-of-Fame until HBO and the NBA railroaded him and his career. And now Showtime is doing the same. They all owe him a public apology in my opinion as does the Big 3. Shout out to Craig Hodges, Bruce Maxwell, Colin Kaepernick and Mahmoud Abdul Rauf in particular for the STAND that they all took (and there's many others like Tommy Smith, John Carlos, Serena and Venus, Jim Brown, and Ali) against police brutality and systemic racism. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support
Mahmoud Abdul Rauf played in the NBA in the 1990s. He was Steph before Steph, Kobe before Kobe and Colin before Colin. And what he's had to endure after getting white balled in the NBA, and most recently in the Big 3 and now with Showtime is a travesty of justice. HBO and the NBA and now Showtime owe him, Director Joslyn Rose Lyons a massive publicly apology and to put STAND back on at Showtime. Anything less is unacceptable. Alicia Berber has endured decades of inhumane treatment. She has been abused, denied access, been overlooked, endured misogyny, sexual harassment, gas lighting, and retaliation. She's lost her home, feared for her life on many occasions, and endured more than two decades of mental anguish and post-traumatic stress. Her physical health has suffered and yet she continues to fight because she refuses to give in to the bullying, lies, and the machine. She wants to not only send a message to the Riverside Community College District and Riverside City College, but to the world, that you do not fuck with Title IX and women. This lawsuit is about Alicia. But this incredible college professor, coach, wife, mother, sister, and daughter is fighting for all the girls and women out there. She's fighting for inclusion and equality. She wants the next woman who comes into not only her position at Riverside City College but in all leadership positions that she has their backs and that the courts come to a similar conclusion. This will then make it that much easier for the next person to fight until we bridge the gap between the marginalized and the most privileged - white men. Thank you for joining me for this special edition on the amended lawsuit filed by Alicia Berber against RCCD. We hope this episode offers you some inspiration, motivation and education. Your voice matters. I started this podcast after the murder of George Floyd and I had no idea where it would lead me and I still don't, but in the meanwhile, I will continue to do my best to serve, to be an ally, and a vessel to not only create a safe space for people to share their story but to help educate and mobilize in hopes for a better tomorrow. Several of Phil Jackson's players have called him a racist for years. But after hearing his recent comments, in conjunction with his decades of comments and beliefs, is being exposed for the fraud that he is. And he's getting a pass. And that is not okay. Phil is basically telling people to shut tf up and dribble and keep politics out of it. And many of you are going to ask the question, what's wrong with that? What's wrong with that is that we should all, especially white people do anything and everything no matter the venue to fight against the machine, social injustice and police brutality. It's insulting to every black and brown American who has died, fighting for equality. Not only is he not a Zen Master, he's wrong about keeping politics out of sports. If anything, it's the perfect landing spot to raise awareness and to mobilize. The good news is that for every Racist Phil Jackson, there's an Arne Duncan and many more, especially those that are a part of the Gen. Z, Cuspers, and Millenial posse (I purposely used that word, Phil) who will fight for what's right. I only wish I heard more from the white influencers when things like this happen like the Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Larry Bird, and anyone in this space who could leverage their white privilege and platform to be a powerful and transformational bridge and vessel. We need more white people to speak up and dribble, speak up and pitch, speak up and shoot, and speak up and hit. #blm #blacklivesmatter --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support

My neighbor since 1991, Pete Corrao was born in San Diego, California on November 3, 1925. Just 3 months before graduating high school, he was drafted and never received his diploma. On the afternoon of December 7, 1941, he was attending a football game at Balboa Stadium when it was announced that Pearl Harbor had been attacked. He attended boot camp in San Diego and went on to radio school. Pete served on ships throughout the Pacific, spending three weeks in Hawaii and then to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands. Pete was serving on Eniwetok atoll when the bomb was dropped over Japan to end the war. He was discharged in March, 1946, serving 2 years in the US Navy. After the war, he returned to San Diego and became a commercial fisherman and then managed a grocery store where he worked with his wife. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-deli/support

Former Olympian, Greg Whyte joined me today for an amazing podcast filled with education, motivation, inspiration, and laughter. Greg and I attended graduate school together at Frostburg State University (MD) and have stayed in touch for the last 30 years. We both agreed that being a parent is the toughest job we've ever encountered but wouldn't trade it for the world. Greg is an incredible human and professional. He's kind, giving, funny, and has a heart of gold. I was truly honored to share space with him today. And you don't want to miss what 5 people would be at his dinner table. Dr. Shaun Anderson grew up in Arkansas and it wasn't easy to say the least. He was homeless twice. He attended both an HBC (Historical Black College) and a PWI (Predominately White Institution). He was the first and last African-American to be in his doctoral program. And sadly, he had to deal with so much racism at the University of West Virginia, it took him a couple of years to heal from the trauma from all the gas lighting, lies, and public humiliation on social media. Years later when Dr. A. attended a conference, someone that was in his program, much to Dr. Anderson's surprise apologized to him for how he was treated. Dr. Anderson, who is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Communication and Faculty Advisor for the Institute of Business Ethics and Sustainability at Loyola Marymount University, has a 4.5 (out of 5) rating on RateMyProfessor.Com where many of his former students call him hilarious, relatable, and caring. He earned tenure a year early and aside from the classes he normally teaches, Dr. Anderson is researching a number of issues as it relates to sport and brand activism. This includes but is not limited to, athlete activism, sports and politics as well as sports and community development He teaches courses in, race and culture in sport, communication consulting, and sport in society. He also studies complex platforms of sports and social responsibility and is the founder of CSR Global Consulting. He's worked with nike espn and major league baseball regarding social injustice initiatives and is the author of The Black Athlete Revolt. We are so honored to be joined by Former MLB Player, Born in Anola, Manitoba, Canada in 1973, the same day as Elon Musk, Corey Koskie. Koskie was a multi-sport star in high school, excelling in baseball, hockey and volleyball. After choosing to focus on baseball, he honed his skills at the National Baseball Institute in Surrey, B.C., in 1993 before he was selected in the 26th round of the 1994 MLB amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins. The 6-foot-3 slugger played parts of five seasons in the minors prior to making his big league debut on September 9, 1998. He became a regular with the Twins the following season when he hit .310 and belted 11 home runs in 117 games – a performance that earned him a spot on the Topps's 1999 All-Star Rookie team. But his true breakout season would come two years later, when he scored 100 runs, socked 26 homers, collected 103 RBI and swiped 27 bases to become the first third baseman in American League history to record at least 100 runs, 25 homers, 100 RBI and 25 stolen bases in the same season. For his efforts, he was named co-winner (with Larry Walker) of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame's Tip O'Neill Award. In the ensuing three campaigns, he never hit less than 14 home runs in a season and he helped the Twins to three consecutive playoff berths. On December 14, 2004, he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays and would slam 11 homers in 97 contests for the Canadian club in 2005, prior to being swapped to the Milwaukee Brewers in January 2006. He had 12 homers in 76 games for the Brewers in 2006 before sustaining a concussion on July 5 that eventually ended his career. In all, in nine big league seasons, Koskie suited for 989 games – more than any other player from Manitoba – and ranks seventh all-time amongst Canadians in home runs (124) and on-base percentage (.367) and eighth in slugging percentage (.458). He also played more big league games at third base than any other Canadian and ranks first among Canuck third basemen in batting average, home runs, RBI and on-base percentage. He also competed for Canada in the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classics. For his efforts, he was elected to the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011 and the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. During his career, Koskie was also involved with numerous charities and he continues to support fundraising activities for the Twins Community Fund. In 2001, he was the recipient of the Twins' Carl R. Pohlad Award, which is handed out by the club to a player, coach or manager for outstanding work in the community. Corey and Hoot talk about mental health, how an injury helped him make it to the major leagues, and what he learned from his parents and growing up on a farm. You also don't want to miss who Corey would choose to be at his dinner table if he could choose any 5 people. #MLB #MinnesotaTwins #Canada #HotCorner #3rdBase #MentalHealth #988 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/support

Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL was seen in a photo in 1957 that prevented 6 black children from entering North Little Rock High School. He claimed that he was "Curious" but didn't denounce the entire situation or condemn it. He wasn't required to like we asked of Kyrie to meet with black and brown leaders or go through sensitivity or diversity, equity, and inclusion training, or donate to a black and brown cause. It's absolute and utter bullshit and hypocritical at best. A large segment of the Jewish community (not me) criticized Dave Chappelle so harshly but Jerry gets a pass. It's unacceptable. Jerry's response shows how tone deaf he, how racially insensitive he is and how he actually doesn't give a fuck about changing the narrative because his (in)action speaks volumes. And for Stephen A. Smith from ESPN to give him a pass yet he'll criticize his own people for nothing like Kwame Brown is deplorable and shows what a blind spot he has because he likes Jerry. F-that bullshit. The sponsors, the networks, the fans and the players should stop the presses until Jerry comes correct. But then again, the Cowboys are relevant. So, how about those Cowboys? I wish Prime Time would say something. I wish other owners would. But they probably won't because this type of stuff doesn't matter to most and who cares right? It doesn't apply to you. And there's more important things to worry about. #NFL #DallasCowboys #SocialInjustice #WhitePrivilege #Equality #BLM --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-sports-deli/support

Hoot believes that Dave should have either not discussed or framed 3 of the topics differently because in this new era of comedy, you have to think about what you're saying about whom otherwise you run the risk of being cancelled or criticized harshly versus in the "old days" where anything pretty much went.
