We start today with Nick talking us through the new Long Island course(s) which he played late last week, a course redesign that Mark describes as a 'new concept in golf', whereby it is basically 3 courses. Nick played one of them and outlines what it was like, he cannot wait to go back. The team at OCM have done a great job.And onto a huge talking point of the week. The tournament at TPC Craig Ranch in Texas, where the course underwent a $25m redesign to make it tougher for the pros, was it? Well perhaps not. Nick and Mark look at the scores....wowee. Mark describes course designers adding in multiple pin placements a 'con' and explains why.Nick has got his hands on a survey that the PGA Tour has sent to Tour Pros, and there are some fascinating questions that they have asked. He talks through some of the most intriguing ones. Mark shares a revealing stat on his club head speed and carry today vs when he was on tour.....interesting! And we compare a couple of Titleist drivers, a newer one vs an older one. Nick also has a stat, one to do with Tiger and his driving distance.Mark says 'Rory McIlroy broke my heart'. Was this a romantic situation? Is it love scorned? No, it's far worse, Mark explains on the pod. Nick, being supportive, after hearing the story says that Rory is wrong. We discuss bifurcation for a bit. It really is the only solution. And what about Bryson? A YouTube star or a Pro Golfer? What will he do? He has said he is uncertain. Mark is 100% clear on what he'd like Bryson to do, Nick more circumspect. And for Hostplus, our 'plus' for golf this week is the Long Island redevelopment! After the turn.....following Nick's Top 5 nicest pro golfers last week, today Mark lists the top 5 'arsehole' acts he has seen Tour Pros do. Does he name names? Well, one. But Nick also has a story about an arsehole act that happened to him from a Tour Pro, he refuses to give the name, despite Mark and Dan trying to trap him - but from the clues, see if you can guess? The PING globals, plenty to talk through, including the great win by Scott Hend at the weekend! Fantastic to see.For Southern Golf Club, plenty of feedback, including on Nick and Mark's analysis of Cam Smith's swing last week, and we have a listen to his coach Claude Harmon speaking on his 'Son of a Butch' podcast about working with Cam.Feedback on cheating, including an incident at The Grange in Adelaide, AO Comments, and we get our discussion on where Lions live from last week clarified. And for the Golf Clearance Outlet, a cracking masterclass from Nick O'Hern inspired by watching Si Woo Kim at the weekend doing something unusual with his putting. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; The Find My Player app - follow every player on every tour; And Southern Golf Club. From Pro Golfer to 500+ Retail Stores: The Sales-First Apparel Growth Playbook with Taylor Artman Want to get your apparel brand into retail accounts, even if you're not viral on Instagram or TikTok? In this episode of The Business of Apparel Podcast, Rachel sits down with Taylor Artman, founder of Surf & Turf Golf, to break down how he leveraged community, credibility, and relentless sales focus to grow into 500+ retail stores, with minimal paid marketing. Taylor shares the real story of going from pro golfer to building a course-to-coast apparel brand, starting with a private "speakeasy" style golf club that created demand for merch. You'll hear how Surf & Turf landed early elite pro shop accounts, why wholesale-first helped build long-term stability (even with cash flow challenges), and the leadership lessons that came from hiring too reactively, then rebuilding the team with the right roles and ownership. The Fathers of the Future Podcast episode featuring Lawrence Jarvey, a former professional golfer turned coffee entrepreneur, delves into his transformative journey as a man, father, and husband. Initially distracted and struggling with identity after a car accident ended his golf career, Jarvey found purpose through faith and community. Jarvey also reflects on breaking generational patterns, such as financial mismanagement and addiction, by adopting disciplined habits like paying off debt and prioritizing family time over fleeting business wins. In March 2025, Josh Goldenberg had all but given up his dreams of playing professional golf. Using his finance degree from the University of Pennsylvania, he took a job at Goldman Sachs. But when he saw an opening to play in a qualifying tournament for the RBC Canadian Open, he signed up and flew up north on a Sunday—so he wouldn't have to take work off—and ended up earning a spot on his first PGA Tour. Goldenberg shares his remarkable story on this week's Menschwarmers, along with his thoughts on being a proudly Jewish player and how he carries that through his life. Also in this episode: Gabe recounts how Robert Shwartzman fell as quickly as he rose in his recent F1 race, and the hosts pay homage to Zach Hyman, who won't play in the Stanley Cup Finals due to injuries—despite the Edmonton Oilers remaining both the most Canadian and most Jewish team to root for this year. Send us a textWhat makes the perfect putter? It's a question that has fueled endless debates among golfers, but few have explored it with the depth of knowledge and hands-on expertise as Dave Frisch of Goodwood Golf Company. Transforming from golf professional to self-taught CAD designer and master putter craftsman, Dave brings remarkable insights into both the artistic and scientific elements of putter creation. This episode peels back the curtain on the custom putter industry, revealing how these precision instruments are designed, manufactured, and personalized. Dave walks us through his journey of teaching himself computer-aided design and machining, explaining how he transforms blocks of carbon steel and stainless into heirloom-quality putters that perform as beautifully as they look. The conversation takes a fascinating turn as Dave shares findings from his ongoing research comparing different putter designs. Using sophisticated tracking technology, he's challenging some of the boldest marketing claims in the industry, particularly those surrounding "zero-torque" putters. His data suggests what many experienced players intuitively know—there's no universal solution in putting, and the best putter is one that complements your natural stroke pattern.Beyond technical details, we explore what makes custom putters so special: personalization. From custom stamping that commemorates meaningful dates or initials to precise specifications tailored to individual stroke characteristics, these aren't just clubs—they're personal instruments that often become treasured possessions passed through generations.Whether you're fascinated by the craftsmanship behind golf equipment, considering investing in a custom putter, or simply love geeking out about golf technology, this conversation offers valuable insights that might forever change how you think about the most personal club in your bag. Scott Stallings is a PGA Tour golfer who stepped off the green and ran right into the Boston Marathon - with no experience. In this episode of the Mental Training Lab, I'm joined by Scott and performance expert Steve Magness to explore this athletic and psychological journey.Inspired by Steve's groundbreaking book Do Hard Things, Scott stepped completely outside his comfort zone, confronting challenges that tested his resilience, self-awareness, and mental adaptability. We hear what Scott learned about balancing response and reaction under pressure, how embracing vulnerability unlocked new insights, and why sometimes the most valuable performance lessons come from being willing to feel completely lost. This episode challenges traditional ideas about mental toughness, performance, and embraces the power of a beginner's mindset. If you're looking to push your limits or redefine what you're capable of—whether in sports, business, or everyday life—this conversation is packed with evidence-based insights and relatable wisdom to help you thrive.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Learn more about The Mental Training LabConnect with Pete on Instagram | LinkedIn | WebsiteSubscribe to the podcast on Apple | Spotify This show is produced and edited by the team at Palm Tree Pod Co.

This episode is brought to you by LPGA. Don't forget to mark your calendars for November 20, 2024—the LPGA is unveiling its 75th Anniversary schedule for the 2025 season, kicking off at the CME Group Tour Championship. Catch all the action on NBC and Golf Channel! Turns out, we've all got a lot more in common with a professional athlete than we think. Yes, you included! You're in for a refreshingly honest look at the realities of life as a professional athlete, reminding us that self-doubt and pressure aren't signs of weakness—they're simply part of the journey, something we all experience, athletes or not. Avery sat down with professional golfer Lauren Coughlin, who's been golfing since the age of seven and making a name for herself on the LPGA Tour. With two championships and eight top-10 finishes this year alone, Lauren has not only mastered the game of golf but she's also learned invaluable lessons about discipline, resilience, and navigating the highs and lows of a competitive career. Avery and Lauren also talk about how golf is considered an old boys' club where men make business deals and network, and how as a woman and first-time golfer, you can also break into these male-dominated spaces with confidence. Lauren gives us an inside understanding of how her journey in golf has shaped her mindset and work ethic, and the importance of quieting your inner critic and having a strong support system—all things we can relate to in the corporate 9-5 grind. If you've ever struggled with self-doubt, managing pressure, or finding ways to keep growing in your career, this episode is packed with actionable takeaways that will inspire you to keep pushing forward—whether you're on the green or in the boardroom.
