Scottie Scheffler has done almost everything in golf. The world number one has multiple majors. He has millions in career earnings. And yet, he told us this week he does not find it fulfilling. Ahead of the British Open, a bit exasperated, he asked the press pack "what's the point?!" We're taking his surprising, sprawling, introspective press conference and getting reknowned mental coach Ben Crowe to break it down for us. Crowe has worked with Ash Barty, Steph Gilmore, Dustin Martin and many more. He has some advice for Scheffler. Featured: Ben Crowe, mindset coach.Subscribe to the ABC Sport Newsletter

What was moving along as an NL beatdown of the AL in the All Star Game turned into an all time classic... and the Royals players were right in the middle of all of it. Both good and bad. It ended with a wild "Swing-off" derby contest that was epic and fun. It also featured an incredible tv broadcast with live interviews, a tribute to Hank Aaron and they should start passing out the Emmy awards right now. The best of the night... Clayton Kershaw pitching while talking with announcers. Fabulous entertainment. As the Open Championship begins, Scottie Scheffler is grabbing headlines for questioning what the point is of working so hard to be good at golf and go through all he does to stay there. You've never heard an athlete talk like this. Randy Moss is back at ESPN after his battle with cancer and has some strong words for Tyreek Hill. Shaq fires huge shots at Robert Griffin III about a WNBA player. In DC, the Senate advances a $9 billion gov cut that will defund NPR and PBS. Adam Schiff has legal woes over mortgage documents he may have fudged. Missouri Congressman Mark Alford releases a statement about the Epstein files and GM is going all in on gas powered vehicles.
Steve Sands from NBC Golf and Golf Channel on Scottie Scheffler's dramatic press conference, how the greatest athletes are wired, and why he expects Rory McIlroy to ramp back up at The Open.

Justin Cuthbert and Jesse Rubinoff kick off Hour 2 with Mark Immelman (0:30) to tee up The Open at Royal Portrush. They discuss the uniqueness of the course and the tough conditions in Ireland, Scheffler's viral comments about his mentality surrounding the sport and how it has helped him reach the pinnacle of Golf, Rory McIlroy's motivation heading into Portrush, and much more. Then, they discuss the NHL schedule release and the notable dates to look out for, review the 2025 MLB All-Star Game and the implementation of the ABS, and more. Interview with : Robert Scheffler Songwriter, singer and guitarist Robert Scheffler has been called a “songwriter's writer” and “unquestionably one of the best performers in the New York area” by local reviewers. Previous record releases include Needles (EP), Pretty Town and Life of Luxury (including tracks produced by Jim Rondinelli [Wilco, Matthew Sweet]). His work has appeared on dozens of TV shows and several short film soundtracks. One song, “Rendezvous,” figured prominently (and dubiously) in a movie that The New York Times labeled “an unpalatable mush.” The film wasn't great but it wasn't all that bad–Emmy Rossum was in it. When Scheffler isn't writing songs, he's making furniture. His partner John knew his latest project was all but finished when Scheffler started making trips to the lumberyard. www.robertschefflermusic.com https://www.instagram.com/robertscheffler_music/

Golf's most recognizable active player is opening up about his frustration with the media. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
Gio lamented how quickly jokes spread and become stale, referencing a Shedeur Sanders joke. Gio voted for King of NY Sports for Evan & Tiki, while Boomer did not. Adam Schefter is getting into golf; Gio reflected on his own golf game. Gio agreed with a caller about letting go of comparisons in sports, noting teams use them to sell tickets. A caller shared Schefter is always on his phone, leading Gio to believe people seek info from him. CLo updated after Joey from Yonkers revealed the Yankees and Mets last had simultaneous 5-game losing streaks in August 1996. The Yankees lost their sixth straight (Cody Bellinger's HR wasn't enough), and the Mets their fifth. Both aim to avoid a second consecutive sweep. Scottie Scheffler noted fans want golf "carnage" but not in other sports; varied courses make golf unique. A kindergartener drew Boomer and Gio. Finally, Boomer and Gio congratulated Ann Liguori on her Gracie Award for "Talking Golf with Ann Liguori" on WFAN. The segment ended with a note about parking difficulties.

Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the U.S. Open at Oakmont. -Going over top 7 names on odds board -1 matchup -2 top nationality tickets -3 futures outrights (+350, 14/1, 18/1) -2 outrights added (100/1 & 150/1) -Sleeper, 2 lineups, scoring -Best bet For more on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @drmedia59 In the "U.S. Open at Oakmont Picks and Predictions" podcast, Will Doctor provides a comprehensive betting preview of the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont. Beginning at 0:16, Doctor sets the tone with energetic anticipation, positioning Oakmont as a legendary course hosting the U.S. Open for a record tenth time. From 0:43, he sharply critiques the previous RBC Canadian Open, describing the Osprey Valley course as “a disgrace” and detailing a 5.8-unit loss that week, with Sam Burns' top-20 finish as the lone success. Despite the setbacks, he praises Ryan Fox's recent success, highlighting the Kiwi's two playoff victories in four starts and his historic Canadian Open win, the first by a New Zealander since 1968. Doctor then shifts focus to Oakmont's rich history. He recounts notable U.S. Open wins, including Tommy Armour (1927), Sam Parks Jr. (1935), and Ben Hogan's record-setting 1953 season. He emphasizes Jack Nicklaus' 1962 victory over Arnold Palmer at age 22, which kickstarted Nicklaus' legendary career. Johnny Miller's final-round 63 in 1973 is labeled the greatest round in U.S. Open history, despite not being the lowest score ever. Further champions like Larry Nelson (1983), Ernie Els (1994), Angel Cabrera (2007), and Dustin Johnson (2016) round out Oakmont's storied hosting record. At 12:00, Doctor begins his betting picks. He endorses Scottie Scheffler (+350) as outright number one, citing dominant recent wins and past experience at Oakmont, where he missed the cut by one in 2016. Bryson DeChambeau, with a futures ticket from December at 14-1, is lauded for his driving power and improved approach play, though his recent accuracy issues raise concern. DeChambeau claims Oakmont is “the toughest test in the world right now,” and Doctor remains confident in his form. Rory McIlroy is passed over due to a poor performance at the Canadian Open, including erratic driving and uninspired play. Doctor quotes Rory discussing his struggle for motivation and interest in hobbies like tennis. John Rahm, however, is preferred in a head-to-head matchup (-133), praised for his polished game despite recent putting inconsistency. Doctor argues Rahm is better equipped than Rory to handle Oakmont's demands. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are also faded. Xander's driving accuracy is flagged as a season-long weakness, and Morikawa is critiqued for losing strokes around the green in five of his last six starts, rendering him unfit for a major requiring elite scrambling. Ludwig Åberg is highlighted as a top Nordic pick at +180, benefiting from strong recent form and inconsistent competition, with Joachim Lagerlund identified as his main threat. Doctor names Hideki Matsuyama as top Japanese player at even money, emphasizing his elite U.S. Open history and the weak form of his countrymen. Outright picks include Scheffler (+350), DeChambeau (14-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1, faded due to poor form), Keegan Bradley (100-1, riding strong recent finishes), and Cam Young (150-1), who's gained strokes off the tee and on the greens recently. Young's playoff qualification over top names and his form earn him sleeper status. Two fantasy lineups are provided. A DraftKings build includes Rahm, Åberg, Spieth, Bradley, Young, and Leishman. The PGA Tour lineup features Scheffler (captain), Bradley, DeChambeau, and Young, with Åberg and Leishman on the bench. Doctor predicts a winning score of -3, depending on weekend rain, and offers Cam Young to finish top 28 at +320 as his best bet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Another week, another Sunday episode reacting to a Scottie Scheffler win on the PGA Tour. Andy and Brendan recap Sheriff Scottie's 16th career victory after he defeated Ben Griffin by four shots at The Memorial. Brendan reads through some stats to help put Scottie's three-year run in some historical context before Andy runs through Scheffler's 2017 Walker Cup teammates to show how much his game has improved in eight years. The two are downright giddy that Ian Baker-Finch dropped a "Sheriff" on the broadcast on Sunday which was promptly added to the soundboard. Andy and Brendan also tie up some loose ends on The Memorial by chatting about strong weeks from Ben Griffin and Sepp Straka. Speaking of good weeks, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler made the most of their sponsor exemptions and Andy is not happy about these free invites into Signature Events. The U.S. Women's Open had some setup issues at Erin Hills after near-six hour rounds became the norm all week long. Maja Stark won her first major championship, another first-time winner at the U.S. Women's Open. Brendan and Andy also discuss Lexi Thompson's stance that she did not "retire" after her sendoff last season. The two then finish up the recap portion of the show with notes from the Austrian Open and a playoff edition of Champions Tour Minute before previewing "Golf's Longest Day" on Monday, even though the name may no longer accurately describe the event.
Ferrall talks about everything that happened over the weekend (Pacers knock out Knicks, Women's US Open, Scheffler wins the Memorial, & MLB) and previews Monday as well the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals.
Scottie Scheffler is the runaway favorite again this week despite facing a signature event field at the Memorial Tournament. Is there still value in betting Scheffler at FanDuel Sportsbook? FanDuel Research's Jim Sannes previews the event, discussing keys to Muirfield Village, his favorite bets of the week (17:23), and the top PGA DFS picks on FanDuel (24:25).
Hosts Alex Kirshner, Lindsay Gibbs, and Ben Lindbergh discuss the surprisingly exciting NBA Conference semifinals and the downfall of the Boston Celtics' aspiring dynasty. They also talk about Pete Rose's newfound Hall of Fame eligibility, and the snooze-worthy PGA Championship. For Afterballs, Ben dives into Pope Leo's sports allegiances. On the bonus episode available exclusively for Slate Plus members, the panel welcomes journalist Erica Ayala to discuss the state of the Professional Women's Hockey League. RUNDOWN Episode 335 opens with a classic Mitch-and-Hotshot cold open built around a unique problem: there's no area code 335. But that doesn't stop Mitch from spinning it into a musical deep dive centered on the new Eddie Vedder Cup, the tongue-in-cheek prize for the Mariners–Padres rivalry. The two riff on San Diego's surprisingly rich musical heritage — from Blink-182 and Stone Temple Pilots to Iron Butterfly and Heart — as Mitch tries to reel in Hotshot with rock trivia and storytelling. Then it's a packed slate of sports. Mitch breaks down the Mariners' stunning three-game sweep of the Padres, with big contributions from unlikely heroes like Dylan Moore and Rowdy Tellez, and serious praise for the bullpen and manager Dan Wilson. Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle join to analyze Seattle's weirdly dominant road performances, the emergence of Brian Woo as a potential All-Star and ace, and what to expect with George Kirby's return. On the football side, Mitch unpacks the Seahawks' 2025 schedule, including an unprecedented ESPN+ Monday Night game with a 10 PM ET kickoff. He also dives into the quarterback gauntlet Seattle won't face — just two of the top 12 QBs from 2024's passer efficiency ratings. Chance Miller, AD at Coastal Carolina, discusses a groundbreaking promotion giving free concessions to football attendees — and how it actually boosts revenue. Mariners' No-Table give their scouting analysis on the Mariners' rotation depth and the likelihood of a Cole Young call-up. Nick Sheridan, Alabama's co-OC, gives us an inside look at Jalen Milroe — his arm, his speed, and what Seattle fans should expect from their rookie quarterback. The episode wraps with “The Other Stuff” — from John Madden: The Movie to Scottie Scheffler's third major win to Brock Purdy's $265 million payday.
