Kristy and Scott take a look at the mysterious case of Louis Le Prince, a man with fabulous facial hair and a true passion for invention. He should have become one of the top names in the annals of innovation, but fate--or maybe Thomas Edison--got in the way. We'll look at the case and the four main theories that try to explain just what happened to this historical genius. Don't miss Kristy's Edison Elephant Outrage, Scott's incredible obliteration of supposed new evidence in the case, and some exclamation point guidelines. You'll be the best gumshoe ever if you leave us a 5-star review on iTunes. And if you'd like to control our fates, simply go to our Amazon wishlist and purchase a book for a future "Deep Dive" to pick a future episode topic. We don't know his name, but his legacy has endured for decades. This week, Scott and Kristy look at the tragic case of the boy in the box, also known as America's Unknown Child. Along the way, we'll talk about our feelings regarding psychics, Honore de Balzac, and the father of criminology, Eugene Vidocq--a character you're sure to see in later episodes. Also, Kristy gets douchey with French pronunciation, and if you have feelings about that, tell us in a 5-star review on iTunes. May 14, 2008. Marshall, Minnesota. The parents of 19-year old Brandon Swanson receive a late-night phone call from their son, who claims that his car has become stuck in a ditch in the middle of nowhere. The Swansons leave to go pick Brandon up, but have trouble finding him. At one point, Brandon’s father hears him shout a swear word over the phone before the call abruptly cuts off, and there is no answer to repeated attempts to phone him back. Even though his abandoned car is eventually found on a rural road, Brandon himself is never heard from again. What happened to Brandon Swanson, and what could have prompted his final reaction during his final phone call? In our latest Halloween-themed extended minisode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we tackle one of the scariest, most baffling missing persons cases of the past decade. Special thanks to Joe from Thinking Sideways Podcast for popping in to share a theory. Be sure to check out their episode about this case.
