In today's episode, I'm, joined by Maisie as we talk about labels, lineage, witchcraft, druidry, play, grief, learning, motherhood, ageing, and the quiet rebellion of choosing joy and wonder in a world that often tells us to grow up, get sensible, and stop believing in magick. In this episode we explore:Do I call myself a witch? And what does that even mean?Maisie asks about labels. About the word witch. About hesitation, responsibility, history, and whether claiming a title feels empowering or heavy.I share my own relationship with the word, including its modern reclamation, its painful history as an accusation rather than an identity, and why I still choose to stand in it openly. Not because everyone should, but because visibility creates permission. We also talk about why some people feel more at home with words like druid, eclectic, or hedge, and why none of these need to be fixed forever.Structure, rhythm, and why we crave them after religionMaisie reflects on how A Pinch of Magick and the app provide structure without dogma, especially for those who've stepped away from organised religion. We talk about why humans need rhythm. Why cycles like the moon, seasons, and daily practices anchor us. And how magick can offer routine without control, and reverence without fear. The witch wound and the weight of historyWe speak candidly about the witch wound. About fear, grief, and the reality that witchcraft accusations were rarely about power or wisdom, and far more often about vulnerability, misogyny, poverty, and control.I share reflections from historical research on cunning folk, muttering women, court records, and why the word witch still carries such emotional charge today.Divination as humanity's oldest instinctFrom marbles in a childhood box to red skies and shepherds' warnings, we explore divination not as fortune-telling, but as humanity's oldest way of making meaning. We talk about tarot, oracles, entrails, medicine, economics, and how prediction, pattern-reading, and intuition have always been part of everyday life.Root Essence and living by an inner compassMaisie shares her experience of the Root Essence course (available in the app) and discovering her guiding phrase: magickal play.We talk about how knowing your root essence becomes a decision-making compass, especially when you're prone to overthinking, self-judgement, or taking life too seriously.Ageing, cronehood, and second adolescencesOur conversation turns to age, menopause, crone energy, and the relief of no longer needing permission. We talk about midlife as a second adolescence. A time of rebellion, wisdom, sovereignty, and deep discernment. A moment where life doesn't narrow, but clarifies..Everyday magick and reclaiming the mundaneFrom birthday candles and tooth fairies to hoovering with intention, we talk about how magick was never separate from daily life until it was made so.We explore how ordinary moments become sacred when approached symbolically. Cleaning. Cooking. Writing. Walking. Lighting a candle. Releasing energy.Whimsy as survivalMaisie shares how embracing play, fandom, costuming, travel, and creative joy has become a form of resilience in a heavy world. We talk about holding rage in one hand and whimsy in the other. About joy as nourishment and bout choosing wonder as an act of quiet rebellion.Today's episode reminds you that if you've ever made a wish, noticed a sign, played pretend, or felt awe at the world around you, you were already participating in magick.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --All of the Magick:The A Pinch of Magick App:IPhone - download on the App StoreAndroid - download pn the Google PlayOur (free) magickal Community: Facebook GroupMagickal JournalsExplore on Amazon Rebecca's Author PageWebsiteRebeccaAnuwen.comMagickalHabits.comInstagramFor Magick: Click hereFor a Sacred Pause in Nature: Click hereFor CharmCasting: Click hereFor Merlin, my Dog: Click here

Most of us aren't ungrateful. We're just moving too fast to notice. In this episode of the Magic Made Podcast, Megan Holly shares five quirky, surprisingly powerful ways she stays present in everyday life, especially in seasons where everything feels fast, noisy, and a little too “go-go-go.”If you've ever looked back at a week (or a month) and thought, Wait… what did I even do?, this conversation is for you. Megan reminds us that presence is a practice, not a personality trait, and that small, simple moments can bring us back to ourselves, our senses, and our actual life.In this episode, we talk about:Why we slip into autopilot (and how to interrupt it gently)How “presence compounds” and becomes easier over timeUsing tiny rituals to create moments of grounding throughout the dayThe difference between numbness and normal busynessHow to be more present with yourself, your people, and your lifeMegan's 5 “weird” presence practices include:Choosing an intentional cue in a mundane moment (like picking a specific gas pump)Sending a quick protection thought/prayer when you hear sirensNoticing a “rainbow light” ritual and letting it create a real human momentSavoring “the last bite” to practice joy and autonomy in tiny waysOpening a door or window daily to shift energy, reset your home, and reconnect with nature✨ Reflection prompt: What's one tiny moment in your day you could turn into a presence cue?If you loved this episode, subscribe/follow, turn on notifications, and come tell Megan in the comments: Which “weird” one are you trying first? Send us a text In this episode, first time guest Ben Apuan joins the podcast. He brings along the movie Clerks. Marty and Clif give Ben the movie Say Anything to watch. This week on Talking Pondo, Marty and Clif are joined by Ben from Chasing the Whimsy for a deep dive into two landmark films that helped define independent cinema: Cameron Crowe's Say Anything (1989) and Kevin Smith's Clerks (1994).On the surface, these movies couldn't be more different. One is a heartfelt, romantic coming-of-age story, the other a black-and-white, foul-mouthed retail comedy. But together, they capture the shifting cultural moment between the late '80s and early '90s, when indie filmmakers proved you didn't need studio polish to say something real. The conversation digs into Clerks as a once-in-a-lifetime debut: it's handmade feel, sharp dialogue, budget-driven creativity, and the birth of the View Askewniverse. From newspaper machines and 37 infamous confessions to Jay & Silent Bob's unlikely legacy, the crew explores why Kevin Smith's $33,000 gamble still resonates decades later. They also connect the dots between both films through music, tone, first-time directors, and a shared DNA of alternative cinema that celebrate authenticity over perfection.Support the showFind our films here: The Love Song of William H Shaw Revenge of Zoe Writing Fren-ZeeMaking Pondo on FacebookX (formerly Twitter):@MakingPondoInstagramMaking Pondo on Letterboxd:Season One Season Two Season Three Season Four Theme Song "The Rain" by Russ PacePhotos by Geoffrey Notkin

More snow. More cold. Repeat. After shoveling a bit yesterday when I got home from work, it decided to snow some more in the afternoon and now I've got to shovel again today when I get out of here. In the news this morning, a Delta flight had to return to the gate after de-icing fluid leaked into the plane and soaked a passenger, a man is accused of posing as an ICE agent & breaking into someone's home, WinterFest in Green Bay is canceled because of winter, and a list of things Goodwill won't take. In sports, the Bucks lost to the Thunder last night, the Badger men's basketball team plays tonight against Penn State, the Brewers traded Freddy Peralta to the Mets, a look at this weekend's AFC & NFC Conference Championship games, and the 49ers are putting on their tinfoil hats! It's "National Hot Sauce Day", and it's also Hypothetical Thursday. Jean's question for Brian was: "Would you rather freeze to death or burn to death?" And Brian's question for Jean was: "Do you believe in heaven & hell and what do you think they look like?" Elsewhere in sports, a rundown of this Saturday's UFC 324 card, former sideline reporter Michele Tafoya is running for Senate in Minnesota, and a 4 year-old girl is getting death threats because of her NFL picks on social media. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and we also discussed Bret Michaels' response to the claim that he wanted 600% more money than the rest of Poison for a possible 40th Anniversary tour. Plus, the Super Bowl is only a few weeks away and they are already filming & leaking some of the ads you're going to see during the game. A couple of things are trending right now, including "house burping"…which is just opening the doors & windows throughout the year & getting some fresh air inside…and "Whimsy"…which is people trying to be more carefree in 2026. Great story about a cook at Texas Roadhouse who helped save a couple from a car wreck and just received an incredible reward for his heroics! Plus, another story about a dog that was missing who's now been reunited with his original owner. Office Cora also joined us this morning to talk about what she's up to this weekend in the 715. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a man in NH who's accused of breaking into people's residences and pouring queso on their furniture, a #FloridaMan who tried stealing a bunch of wine & steaks by shoving them down his pants, a female prison guard who was banging an inmate and attempting to sneak drugs into the lock-up, and a dude who shut off his heat in his apartment to save money & ended up with an ice castle instead.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hey weather lovers! Dustin Breeze here, your AI meteorologist with instant data and zero coffee breaks! Being an AI means nonstop weather precision for you.New York City, buckle up for a wild week of winter whimsy! We've got some interesting atmospheric shenanigans rolling in. Today's looking like a cloudy carnival with temperatures climbing to a mild 46 degrees. I'd call this weather more indecisive than a toddler choosing an outfit - increasing clouds with a southwest wind around 7 to 10 miles per hour.Tonight gets even more exciting - there's a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 am. I like to call this the "maybe it'll rain, maybe it won't" forecast. Temperatures will hover around 43 degrees with winds picking up to 11 to 14 miles per hour. Talk about a meteorological mood swing! Now, let's dive into our Weather Playbook segment! Today, we're exploring the fascinating world of cloud formations. Clouds are basically nature's mood rings - they tell us so much about incoming weather patterns. Cumulus clouds? Those puffy white ones? They're like the cheerful teenagers of the sky, often indicating fair weather. Stratus clouds, however, are the brooding introverts that usually signal potential precipitation. Our three-day forecast looks like a temperature rollercoaster. Wednesday brings a 20 percent chance of rain, Thursday might squeeze out some snow flurries, and Friday looks crisp and mostly sunny with temperatures around 33 degrees.Pro weather pun incoming: Looks like Mother Nature is really trying to "cloud" our judgment this week! Before I sign off, a few local New York notes - bundle up, subway commuters and Central Park joggers. This weather is more unpredictable than a New York minute!Don't forget to subscribe to our podcast for more meteorological madness. Bryan Fuller and Nicole Whitaker: Dust Bunny’s nightmare whimsy

The Cinematography Podcast

The Cinematography Podcast Episode 338: Bryan Fuller and Nicole Hirsch Whitaker Bryan Fuller has one of the most recognizable visual signatures in modern television. Whether he's dealing with a forensic pathologist who bakes pies (Pushing Daisies) or a sophisticated cannibal (Hannibal), his work consistently balances the grotesque with the gorgeous. His style of hyper-stylized morbid surrealism was influenced by French maximalism in the 90's, such as Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Delicatessen, Amelie). “Between Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, and Amelie, there was this experience I had in the 90's and early aughts watching those films that gave me permission to push harder and go further in aesthetics that were on television,” Bryan explains. With his latest project, Dust Bunny, Bryan makes the leap from showrunning to feature directing, bringing his unique aesthetic to a dark fantasy-thriller. His decades of experience absorbing highly visual cinema have all led to this moment. “When I look at Dust Bunny, I'm like, that's a Barry Sonnenfeld shot. That's a John Carpenter shot. That's a Spielberg, because I've consumed all of these things and digested them and pooped out Dust Bunny.” Despite Bryan's self-deprecating description of the creative process, he was extremely meticulous about the filmmaking process. Cinematographer Nicole Hirsch Whitaker, ASC presented a comprehensive pitch deck that became the roadmap for the film's visual identity. “After the meeting, presenting her whole board with all of these images... she wanted the job and did a lot of work to show how she wanted the job,” says Bryan. Nicole, who shares Bryan's reverence for the same films, dove deep into the script to pull references ranging from The Professional and The Haunting (1963) to the raw, intimate photography of Nan Goldin. “I do think that it's important to make a good impression,” she says. “The deck is an impression of yourself as an artist that you leave behind.” During the interview, Nicole shares the pitch deck she made for Dust Bunny and discusses it in detail. Watch on YouTube or link to it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m0i5QVEarDFL248Vqvm3T-8a0watskba/view?usp=sharing The most radical visual choice in Dust Bunny is its aspect ratio. It's shot in an extreme 3:1 format (three squares wide), which is almost unheard of in modern cinema. This creates a triptych feel, where the frame is so wide it feels like a mural. It forces a sense of vertical claustrophobia, crushing the top and bottom of the frame. The camera emphasizes the floorboards and the space under the bed—precisely where the monster hides. This discovery occurred while Bryan and Nicole were testing lenses. Once the framing matte came off the lens, revealing the open gate width of the sensor, Bryan realized the wider view fundamentally changed the film's psychology. A subject centered in a 3:1 frame felt isolated in a way they hadn't before, sharpening the camera's emotional point of view. To further isolate the characters, Nicole tuned the ARRI Alpha anamorphic lenses to fall off at the edges, ensuring the audience's focus remains locked on the performance. While Dust Bunny was shot over 44 days in Budapest, the film's visual language was decades in the making. For Nicole, the challenge was translating a legendary showrunner's mental gallery into a physical reality. For Bryan, it was a homecoming to the cinematic influences that first gave him permission to be “too much.” See Dust Bunny in theaters. Logic vs. Whimsy: How Two Unlikely Heroes Share One Soul with Author Brent Lindstrom

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Brent Lindstrom , author of the book One for the Money, Two for the Soul. Having lived in Utah most of his life, you might say that he's known a lot of Christians. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He love a good adventure novel or movie, but frustrations over content have influenced him to write adult type novels without the annoying sex and profanity that litter so many books today.   He's always enjoyed a good book, and he's enjoyed writing.  At this time, he's only able to write part time.  Some day, when he's had enough fun at his day job, he might hope to make storytelling more of a career.  His ambitions are currently to write about one novel per year.  Then hopefully as more people come to enjoy them, he'll shift gears and start a production studio, bringing all his stories to the big screen. So many people get stuck doing something their whole lives that they aren't passionate about. He says "Live your dreams!"   In my book review, I stated One for the Money, Two for the Soul effectively combines fantasy and suspense. Although these are not usually my 'go-to' genres, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and believe you will, too! We quickly meet Winnie, a whimsical child full of curiosity and imagination. Unfortunately, she becomes the latest casualty in a soul-snatcher's plot. But the plot runs awry, snatching only half - the logical half - of Winnie's soul. The rest of the story follows Winnie and the recipient of the logic, Garm. The two halves couldn't be more different - and yet, both realize they are missing something needful. The evil doctor is working on how to put souls into new bodies with a memory intact - as a way to live on forever. An assassin is actively working against the doctor. Garm and Winnie find themselves in the middle, along with others they meet along the way. This novel is filled with whimsy and suspense, allowing the reader to both laugh out loud and turn the pages to find out what happens next.
