Liz and Sarah discuss how writing the third draft of their pilot has made them realize there’s no right way to do something creative. There are MANY right ways. In Take Two, they revisit “whimsy” and share listener suggestions of whimsical items that bring joy. This week’s tip in The Craft (& Fain) makes a scene better AND shorter — lop off the first few lines and/or the last few lines. Then they share a summer travel Hollywood Hack: buy your airplane snacks before you go to the airport. Finally, Sarah recommends the Gardeners’ Question Time podcast from BBC Radio 4. Hey everyone, just a heads up that in this episode Jessica mentions times in her life when she was suicidal. If this brings up anything for you, please reach out to someone you trust, or contact one of the support lines we’ve included in the show notes. Take care of yourselves, and feel free to pause or skip this one if you need to. This week we are chatting to Jessica Horner about neurodivergent stories. Jessica is a proudly AuDHD and disabled woman and she works as a policy advisor with People With Disability Australia. She has previously worked as a journalist at the ABC, where she focused on the experiences of late diagnosed Autistic adults across Australia and wrote, among other pieces, a long form feature article called “A Rich New Lens”. She would later be nominated as a finalist for this article, alongside her producer, for the Media Diversity Australia Award, issued by the Walkley Foundation in 2023. She has also written for ABC Everyday, ABC News, Reframing Autism, Yooralla, and others. In this episode we deep dive into how neurodivergent stories are told, by whom, and for what purpose, and unpack to impact of this on the neurodivergent community. We cover: How Jessica thinks about neurodivergence. Jessica’s experience of her neurodivergence, and how this evolved over time along with her sense of self and identity. What are stories, why do we tell stories, and why are stories important? How power dynamics become embedded in cultural stories and ways we can work to shift this. Unpacking how neurodivergent stories are told. What does trauma-informed journalism and storytelling look like? Jessica’s current hyperfixations and a personal story on how Autism can show up for her. You can find Jessica through her website, Spoonfuls of Whimsy, or on Instagram and Facebook @spoonfuls_of_whimsy Looking for mental health support? Jess and Greg Stone set out to ride around the world in 18 months. They aimed to prove that their dog gear could withstand the wear and tear of daily use while riding both on and off the road, and to raise $100,000 for a non-profit, Girl Up. Three years later, after facing injury, loss, and thousands of kilometers throughout the Americas, they've realized that their journey has become much more than a motorcycle trip. In this episode, they reflect on how slowing down, exploring, and sharing the road with their dog Whimsy has reshaped their route and lives.

In this episode, Andrew welcomes Matt O'Mara, CEO and founder of Whimsy Intermodal and Whimsy Trucking. Matt's journey into the transportation industry began in 1994 when he worked as an owner-operator for a trucking company. When that company was acquired and its drivers let go, Matt seized the opportunity to start Whimsy Intermodal in 1996 and hired many of those drivers. Today, Whimsy has about 50 company drivers, 145 owner-operators, and 150 trucks. Andrew and Matt also cover:Whimsy's organic business growth and unique capability in handling challenging freight, the importance of finding consistency, and Whimsy's focus on execution, including how they add value beyond transportation. The significant challenges Matt ran into of implementing new TMS systems in a legacy company, the importance of team buy-in, and the eventual success of digitizing and going paperless, including leveraging AI for order entry and real-time driver coaching.Treating drivers with respect and providing robust support as the key to retention, highlighting the reason why Whimsy has a waiting list for owner-operators.The importance of transparency, leading by example and avoiding hypocrisy, and the critical role of communication, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness in leadership.Current market conditions, the lack of impact from Chinese New Year, potential tariff effects, and the critical need for robust infrastructure and processes.Follow The Freight Pod and host Andrew Silver on LinkedIn.*** This episode is brought to you by Rapido Solutions Group. Hey mission fam! In this week's podcast episode 198. What I've Learned, I'm getting super personal and sharing 50 life lessons I've learned as I approach my 50th year. These aren't just random tips, but deep insights I've gained through coaching missionaries, raising my kids, and navigating my own life journey. From understanding that people are always doing their best to recognizing that nervousness means something exciting is possible, I'm opening up about the wisdom I've collected. I dive into some really powerful concepts like how faith isn't about perfect knowledge, but about moving forward anyway, and why our human experience isn't something to "fix" but to love and compassion. I talk about how God trusts us, how we're meant to feel ALL the emotions, and why our unique interests are actually clues to our purpose. If you've ever felt stuck or like you're not doing life "right", this episode is going to feel like a big, warm hug of understanding and permission to just be exactly who you are. Whether you're a missionary, a returned missionary, or just someone trying to navigate life's ups and downs, I think you'll find something in these 50 lessons that speaks directly to your heart. Grab a notebook, get comfortable, and let's explore what it means to truly embrace yourself and your journey. Can't wait to hear which lessons resonate with you! As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. I'm pretty confident either this season is really not as good as we hoped it would be, or we're both suffering the exact same short term memory loss.
"There are no exact guidelines. There are probably no guidelines at all. The only thing I can recommend at this stage is a sense of humor, an ability to see things in their ridiculous and absurd dimensions, to laugh at others and at ourselves, a sense of irony regarding everything that calls out for parody in this world. In other words, I can only recommend perspective and distance. Awareness of all the most dangerous kinds of vanity, both in others and in ourselves. A good mind. A modest certainty about the meaning of things. Gratitude for the gift of life and the courage to take responsibility for it." - Václav Havel “Nothing can burst the balloon of pomposity and dictatorial rhetoric better than comedy. As they gear up for the start of the regular season, Mike and Bill proudly present an encore episode from the early days of the show: With all due respect to the 1899 Spiders, the worst team in baseball history was undoubtedly the one managed by Charlie Brown in Peanuts, the iconic comic strip written by Charles Schulz. And no one knows more about that team than special guest Larry Granillo (@wezen_ball), who joins Mike and Bill to discuss Peanuts, its connection to baseball, the statistics Larry calculated in his 2011 SABR presentation, and Charlie Brown's first homer, which happened 25 years before we first published this episode in 2018. Fun and whimsy!

Today on the show, I get to talk with the king of whimsy himself, Bob Goff. This is his third time back to That Sounds Fun and he's always a good friend to us and a really wise voice we can learn from. His new book Catching Whimsy is a 365 day devotional challenging us to intentionally live a life full of kindness and wonder and, of course, some whimsy too. He shares stories of visiting prisons in a Santa Claus suit, building a giraffe habitat, and encourages us to get curious about other people. I think you'll really like this one. . . . . .
