*** Moderation: Rudi Cerne, Nicola Haenisch-Korus Gäste & Experten: Ministerialrat Dr. Ernst Geiger, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Haller, Rechtsanwältin Astrid Wagner Autor dieser Folge: Lale Artun Audioproduktion & Technik: Lalita Hillgärtner & Anja Rieß Produktionsleitung Securitel: Marion Biefeld Produktionsleitung Bumm Film: Melanie Graf, Nina Kuhn Produktionsmanagement ZDF: Julian Best Leitung Digitale Redaktion Securitel: Nicola Haenisch-Korus Produzent Securitel: René Carl Produzent Bumm Film: Nico Krappweis Redaktion Securitel: Katharina Jakob, Corinna Prinz Redaktion ZDF: Sonja Roy, Kirsten Schönig Regie Bumm Film: David Gromer
*** Moderation: Rudi Cerne, Nicola Haenisch-Korus Gäste & Experten: Ministerialrat Dr. Ernst Geiger, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Haller, Rechtsanwältin Astrid Wagner Autor dieser Folge: Lale Artun Audioproduktion & Technik: Anja Rieß Produktionsleitung Securitel: Marion Biefeld Produktionsleitung Bumm Film: Melanie Graf, Nina Kuhn Produktionsmanagement ZDF: Julian Best Leitung Digitale Redaktion Securitel: Nicola Haenisch-Korus Produzent Securitel: René Carl Produzent Bumm Film: Nico Krappweis Redaktion Securitel: Katharina Jakob, Corinna Prinz Redaktion ZDF: Sonja Roy, Kirsten Schönig Regie Bumm Film: David Gromer

Hoy haremos referencia a 4 increíbles historias. Send us a Text Message.Throughout the 1980s; Jack Unterweger was a model prisoner while serving a life sentence for brutally murdering a girl. He was living proof that it was never too late to turn things around, no matter what deeds one committed. He was let out early on good behavior. He had been redeemed. Not only that, but he wrote about the experience, almost framing HIM as the victim. He got the attention of Austrian schools and the attention and praise of Nobel prize winners. He then went to Hollywood, enamored of European American celebrities. And where he did research for a writing project on sex workers. But that was the face he presented the world. His victims, however, saw a different face. Patreon, merch, discord, kofi and more!: https://linktr.ee/cruelteaSupport the Show.

(The Man Is Back) *** Weirdo family member Ezra tells us of his personal encounter with a black-eyed child. (An Angel Saved Me From a Black Eyed Kid) *** Pukwudgies were known to Native Americans, who gave them a wide berth. And if you see one, it's best to stay away. (What is a Pukwudgie?) *** What began as a practical joke soon became one of the greatest hoaxes in American history – it's the true story of the Cardiff Giant. (The Petrified Man) *** Jody smiled at the children playing in her backyard. She didn't know them, they were probably the neighbors' kids. At least that's what she thought at first until she began to notice something disturbing about those children. (Phantom Children of Guilford) *** Dealing with the paranormal is already unsettling. What if you were to learn that the supernatural has actually been feeding on you? (Supernatural Feedings) *** Newlywed couples planning a trip to Venice envision romantic walkways and Renaissance art. What they don't expect to find is an island that is illegal to set foot on… and for good reason. (Black Plague Island) *** Weirdo family member Ber Bella shares an experience her grandmother had on an icy road. (Angel On Black Ice) *** Sometimes a prisoner is let free, with experts of the opinion he has been completely rehabilitated. Sometimes they are right. Often they are wrong. And in the case of Jack Unterweger – releasing him was the worst thing that could ever have been done.
Februar 2024.

The hotel was the infamous Cecil Hotel, located at the foot of Skid Row. She would soon learn about the hotel's notoriety-since its opening in 1927, there had been any number of deaths by suicide, and some of the residents included the serial killers Richard Ramirez and Jack Unterweger. Price's temporary job eventually turned into a permanent one, as the general manager. Price recounts her unlikely path in her memoir BEHIND THE DOOR: The Dark Truths and Untold Stories of the Cecil Hotel (William Morrow; On sale October 3, 2023; $30.00, 240 pages; ISBN 978-0-06-325765-8). From the very beginning of what was supposed to be a temporary job, it was Price's mission to turn the hotel into a more-welcoming place and a place that could survive constant challenges. As general manager, Price was one of the key figures who was interviewed for Netflix's highly rated documentary series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel. Before being interviewed, she was told by producers that the series would focus on the hotel's history and would touch on the Elisa Lam tragedy. So she was surprised that the actual focus of the series ended up being almost solely about the mysterious death of Lam, a haunting case that captivated millions and led to its own controversies and unwarranted personal attacks on Amy. BEHIND THE DOOR touches on the fallout from the documentary, but it is about so much more than that. This is Price's story, but also the "untold stories of all the tenants and guests who would probably otherwise remain anonymous." Price got things done while she managed the hotel, often dealing with harrowing occurrences (indeed, 80 people died over the 10 years she worked there). But she never lost sight of the humanity of the people she encountered there, even if they had been discarded and abandoned by society. Her humanity shines through in every chapter. Amy Price is the former general manager of downtown Los Angeles's notorious Cecil Hotel. She lives with her dogs in West Hollywood.
Can the act of suicide among serial killers be seen as a final assertion of control or an ultimate act of remorse? This intriguing question forms the crux of a riveting conversation between Tony Brueski, host of the podcast "Hidden Killers," and renowned forensic psychologist Dr. Katherine Ramsland. In a thought-provoking exchange, Dr. Ramsland delves into the psychological complexities of serial killers who commit suicide. Contrary to popular belief, these individuals are not a monolith; they exhibit a wide array of personalities, disorders, and motivations, even in their reasons for ending their own lives. "A lot of people think all serial killers are alike, and they're not," Dr. Ramsland explains. She emphasizes the diversity among them, challenging the stereotype of a one-dimensional, remorseless killer. The motivations for suicide among these individuals are as varied as their crimes, ranging from a last-ditch effort to avoid capture to deep-seated remorse. Interestingly, only about 25% of these individuals leave behind notes, and even then, their motivations are rarely clear. Dr. Ramsland, also a suicideologist, underscores this point: "We're speculating, and here and there, we have some who made it very clear why they're doing this." The conversation takes a darker turn as they discuss serial killers who chose suicide at different stages - some before being identified, some during investigations, and others while imprisoned. Dr. Ramsland cites Leonard Lake, who committed suicide upon arrest, and Jack Unterweger, an Austrian serial killer who vowed never to spend another day in prison and followed through on this promise after his conviction. Brueski questions whether these acts are more about control than remorse. Dr. Ramsland's response is telling: "The ones who have expressed remorse are a really low percentage." This suggests that while some may experience genuine regret, many view suicide as a final exertion of control over their fates - a narcissistic suicide, as Dr. Ramsland labels it. The conversation also explores the correlation between the methods of suicide and the killers' circumstances, noting a prevalence of shootings and hangings. Dr. Ramsland points out the practical aspects of these choices, with availability often dictating the method. Further probing the depths of these killers' psyches, Brueski asks about the role of upbringing and mental health in their decisions to end their lives. Dr. Ramsland notes that many who committed suicide had backgrounds marked by psychiatric issues and sexual compulsion, adding complexity to their profiles. In a striking revelation, Dr. Ramsland debunks the myth that serial killers are devoid of empathy. They can, in fact, sense others' feelings; their issue lies in their indifference to these emotions, driven by their self-centered worldviews. The article concludes, leaving readers with a lingering question: When serial killers choose the path of suicide, are they seeking a final act of dominance over their narrative, or are they driven by a deeper, perhaps misunderstood, sense of remorse? This conversation with Dr. Katherine Ramsland sheds light on the intricate and often misunderstood psychological landscapes of serial killers, challenging our perceptions and inviting us to ponder the complex interplay of mind, crime, and ultimate self-destruction.

In the Spring of 1990, when Jack Unterweger was released from prison in Austria after serving fifteen years for strangling an eighteen year-old to death with her own bra (amongst numerous other crimes), many of Austria's literary elite were convinced he was rehabilitated. They'd even tried to get him pardoned years earlier after he'd written a bestselling autobiography, poems, short stories, and children's books that won him the hearts of not just other writers, but people all around Austria. This month, we have decided that in honor of Pride month, we are going to donate locally to the North Idaho Pride Alliance whose mission is to connect LGBTQIA+ people and allies to various community groups so they may create a more inclusive North Idaho through Networking, Educating and Advocating. We donated $13,540 to this charity, and another $1505 to our scholarship fund. Science takes a look at the possibility. (Are Dragons Real?) *** In a thick, dark forest in Colorado is a foreboding house which is considered one of the most haunted places in the U.S. (Haunted House In The Black Forest) *** A woman has the gift of speaking with and interacting with those who have passed on… but what began as a gift, evolved into a curse.
