In this episode Tripod and Poggo find themselves in Adelaide preparing to perform "This Gaming Life" with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra AND are joined by very special guest Austin Wintory - composer of game scores like Journey, Banner Saga and Assassin's Creed: Syndicate. More people in the room than ever before? I'm sure it will be a tight show. The team cover topics like video games they fell in love with as kids, go behind the scenes on how some of This Gaming Life was conceived and breakdown some of the murder ballads Tripod and Austin collaborated on for Assassin's Creed. Episode Notes: 07:44 - We chat about games that we first fell in love with, and games that made us realise that games were more than games 25:35 - Whoops! We're joined by Scod's delightful wife. She is much cooler than everyone and now we're on our best behaviour 31:30 - Turns out Poggo and Austin are both correct - the Panama Canal didn't exist until 1914, but many prospectors in the mid-1800s used this route during the California gold rush. Because the canal did not yet exist they sailed the Atlantic to Panama, crossed the isthmus either on foot, mules or boat, and then took another ship to California. In this episode we cover songs like Hot Dog Man, Nothing To See Here and a song that Tripod wrote as part of Double J's "Writer's Room" called Broken Heart. Episode Notes: 00:00 - Serious, we actually had dinner before we recorded the episode. Happy days! Tripod - Australia’s (2nd?) best musical comedy trio - are in Los Angeles to work on their new show, THIS GAMING LIFE. Scod, Gatesy and Yon take time out of their hectic schedule to reminisce about the good ol’ days opening for cover bands and their old school marketing techniques, which included capturing St Kilda foot traffic and diuretic mail outs. They reveal their individual gaming preferences and advise me on the best games for lasting romantic relationships. I have yet to test their theories... Look out LA Uber drivers - The Peace Machines have arrived and they will serenade you with their three part harmonies!
Recorded on December 10th, 2012 with Brian Fife, James Fingal and Thomas Westberg. Recently, MoMA announced their plans to show a collection of video games in 2013. The challenges of collecting and showing video games are discussed, and Jim, Brian and Tom talk about thier reactions to the games that were selected - this list is very different from what we would expect to see on any serious gamer’s top ten list. This will be that last podcast of 2012 - but we’ll be back in early 2013 with more episodes.
