Orion Sa-Solo's EVE StoryA relative asked me to play EVE Online in 2013 and then immediately pushed me into starting an industry corp in High Sec Yulai Heavy Industries. We mined together, built ships and eventually even capitals as we grew into a solid group, then ventured into Null Sec as renters. Over time we drifted apart, and I discovered PvP was what I wanted to do so I shuttered my corp. I eventually found more friends, became a director of Lethal Injection and moved around to multiple groups as we grew; CO2, The Culture, Triumvirate, and Pandemic Legion even dipped my toes into wormholes for a short time (WHs are scary; you really need Rat Jesus). Today I'm having a blast in Faction Warfare with the Minmatar Fleet Alliance. Hello team, I am Rots Mijnwerker, alliance leader for Out of the Blue.My history in Eve Online has always been about creating experiences, playing in a community, and growing with the game. My time in EVE truly started in 2005 at the age of 13, playing religiously throughout middle and high school then well into college. My name is Youngpuke2, and I am rerunning for CSM this year. My primary focus is on improving and iterating low-sec, npc-null, and null-sec as an advocate for small to medium alliances that are typically not represented on the CSM. Even though, I may not live in your space I try to bring voices and perspectives from alliances that may not be often heard on the CSM. Over the past year, I have advocated heavily for alliances in low-sec, wormholes, and null-sec. Trying to help CCP understand the difficulties of building up alliances and creating the stories we love in New Eden.My perspectives come from living in all areas of K-space. While there are many founders of the video game industry writ large, the dawn of multiplayer gaming is a much more select group of luminaries and our guest today, Richard Bartle is most definitely one of them.  He cocreated MUD1, the first Multi User Dungeon game as a college student and has gone on to help shape the academic view of gaming ever since. Jon Jordan talks to CCP Games' CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson about why its forthcoming game EVE Frontier is being built open source and fully decentralized. [0:57] How and why Hilmar got interested in blockchain, starting with storing spaceships on Bitcoin.[6:04] Back in 2017, the crypto community was like the early MMOG communities.[7:00] I got more interested after the 2018 crash and I went to my first blockchain game conference.[9:07] Many MMOGs focus on a player's inventory being persistence, not world persistence. [10:12] For a persistent game, we should use technology known for being good at persistence.[14:30] A lot of software has been created to help players run companies in EVE Online. [16:16] Ethereum is a very adversial PVP environment, just like EVE Online. [17:15] EVE Frontier was designed so CCP Games and thirdparty devs have the same level of authority.[19:02] To make a proveable sound system, you end up with a lot of blockchain-like [21:30] "I think about EVE Online as being a city. If EVE is Rome, Frontier is a new city, say New York".[24:35] EVE Frontier is more of a survival experience, a multiplayer single sharded survival experience.[25:43] "What sort of Daniel Day-Lewis film is EVE Frontier?"[27:21] What do the current EVE Online players think about EVE Frontier?[32:20] "We are going to provide the city-building tools but we are not going to build the city."[36:32] Why is CCP Online also open-sourcing its own Carbon game development tools?[38:50] "In a decade's time, the city will be inherent better because everything is open-sourced."

He gives an example of building a feature flag system for a game studio that needed to support a long-term vision while adapting to a new game engine. His advice: break large goals into smaller, adaptable increments that align with future changes.   Navigating Leadership Challenges During Organizational Change   “Trust is your greatest currency during periods of uncertainty.”   Dan reflects on a particularly challenging period when a leadership change caused a significant exodus of engineers at his company, leaving him with only one engineer. Despite the setback, Dan leaned into transparency and empathy, earning the trust of departing team members, which helped him transfer knowledge and rebuild the team.   Expanding the Scope of Leadership   “My role expanded from leading an engineering team to caring about the morale of the entire company.”   A surprising revelation for Dan was realizing the broader impact of his leadership on non-engineering teams.
