The big beasts arise as we talk EVE Frontier, MapleStory Universe and how Wemade's approach bests Ubisoft. [00:34] Jon attended EVE Fanfest 2026 in Iceland. What are his takeaways?[02:40] Why EVE Fanfest works beyond being just an event for players.[05:05] EVE Frontier is EVE Online if made from scratch now.[06:46] In Cycle 6 (out 25th June), EVE Frontier finally becomes more of an actual survival game.[09:28] Modular shipbuilding replaces fixed ships.[10:40] EVE Frontier is a game that rewards players who improve their manual gameplay skills. [11:55] “This is a game that makes EVE Online feel cuddly.”[13:58] Does EVE Frontier need non-EVE players?[15:30] The fundamental approach is blockchain as a unified API.[16:38] Why some CCP/Fenris developers want to work on EVE Frontier, not EVE Online. [17:38] How EVE Frontier is using AI for coding and prototyping.[19:10] Nexon is talking about MapleStory Universe, MSU 2.0 and VIBE IP.[22:11] MapleStory Universe did $31 million in revenue in year 1. [23:22] The real KPI for MSU 2.0 is the revenue third-party devs make. [25:55] Average EVE Fanfest attendee had played 7,900 hours of EVE Online. [30:50] Legend of Ymir has released the ability to mint and trade character NFTs.[32:00] Legend of Ymir NFT character trading was $77,000 on day 1. [34:40] Ubisoft is shutting down Champions Tactics' web3 features on 27th May. [36:00] Ubisoft's blockchain problems are a minor part of much wider issues for the company. [39:00] Champions Tactics was beautifully made, but too narrow in its addressable audience. [42:29] Wemade is iteratively learning. Ubisoft is scattergun, lacking learning loops. [44:30] The post-crash shape of blockchain gaming is now becoming apparent.

The big news this week is CCP Games' MBO, rebranded as Fenris Creations and backed by Google DeepMind. [23:30] Legacy players allows Mythical to better control the supply of rare NFTs. Season 2 of Geekstorians continues with the moment virtual worlds stopped being just games and started becoming laboratories. In ‘Virtual Worlds, Real Consequences', Dave looks at three very different digital worlds — World of Warcraft, EVE Online and Second Life — and the very real human behaviour they exposed once thousands of people were let loose inside them.It starts with World of Warcraft's Corrupted Blood incident, when a raid debuff escaped into the wider game and created a plague across major cities. What looked like a game bug became something stranger: an accidental model of how people behave during an epidemic, later cited in real-world pandemic research. From there, the episode moves into EVE Online, where CCP built a universe with minimal intervention and players responded by creating their own politics, economies, infiltrations, betrayals and wars. This is the world of the Guiding Hand Social Club heist, the Band of Brothers collapse, the Council of Stellar Management, and the Bloodbath of B-R5RB, a battle so vast it was covered like a real military event. Then comes Second Life, the platform that looked, for a while, like the future of the internet. A world built around ownership, virtual land, and real-money exchange, it drew in businesses, media companies and futurists who thought the metaverse had arrived. What followed was less a clean technological revolution than a reminder that the internet always brings people with it, and people tend to arrive carrying chaos. If the earlier episodes in Season 2 were about collapse, bankruptcy and institutional failure, this one is about something more revealing: what happens when designers build systems, step back, and let human beings do the rest.Geekstorians is a documentary-style podcast from Dave Elliott of Geektown, exploring the hidden history of geek culture, fandom, film, television, comics and gaming.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. EVE Online is one of the longest-standing MMOs of all time, celebrating its 22nd anniversary since its launch in 2003. In this episode, host Alexandra Takei, Director at Ruckus Games, sits down with CCP Games' CEO Hilmar Petursson to unpack how the Icelandic studio still maintains one of gaming's most complex live worlds, a single universe that has generated over $1B in lifetime revenue and 25 million players. Hilmar walks through CCP's four eras: the pre-Steam founding years, the Steam transition, Pearl Abyss's acquisition, and the studio today, revealing how an original team of thirty developers pioneered player-driven economies, massive social coordination, and a forever game. The conversation then turns to EVE Frontier, CCP's new blockchain-powered spin-off built on the Sui network. Hilmar explains why he believes blockchain is the next natural step in EVE's evolution, not as a trend, but as a means to true player ownership and another step in the direction of a forever game: persistence that is independent of the company, its servers, and its original creators. The episode closes on the state of the industry today from Hilmar's perspective – why attention and discovery are gaming's hardest problems and how developers can learn from EVE's social design to build long-lasting worlds. We'd also like to thank Lysto for making this episode possible! In this episode of The Corner of Story and Game, we sit down with Winter Mullenix and Tormod MacLean to explore what it really means to tell stories in open-world, player-driven spaces. Together, we dig into the challenges and opportunities of crafting narrative in sandbox MMOs, where story doesn't come from scripted quests alone, but from the players themselves.Winter and Tormod share insights from their work on large-scale projects, unpacking how narrative design can survive (and even thrive) in worlds defined by freedom.Whether you're building your first open-world game or looking for ways to weave narrative meaning into systems-driven experiences, this episode will help you think differently about what “story” really means in a sandbox MMO.Where to find Winter & Tormod:LinkedIn (Winter): https://www.linkedin.com/in/wintermullenix/LinkedIn (Tormod): https://www.linkedin.com/in/tormod-maclean-6b230012/EVE Online: https://www.eveonline.com/The Corner of Story and Game:DiscordFacebookInstagramBlueskyLinkedInEmail: gerald@storyandgame.com#NarrativeDesign #GameWriting #MMORPG #SandboxGames #OpenWorldDesign #EmergentStorytelling #GameDevelopment #StoryInGames #PlayerAgency #InteractiveNarrative #GameDesign #StorytellingInGames #TheCornerOfStoryAndGame #IndieDev #SystemsDesign #WritingForGames #BuildingWorlds #GameNarrative #NarrativeCraft #WorldBuilding
Orion Sa-Solo's EVE StoryA relative asked me to play EVE Online in 2013 and then immediately pushed me into starting an industry corp in High Sec Yulai Heavy Industries. We mined together, built ships and eventually even capitals as we grew into a solid group, then ventured into Null Sec as renters. Over time we drifted apart, and I discovered PvP was what I wanted to do so I shuttered my corp. I eventually found more friends, became a director of Lethal Injection and moved around to multiple groups as we grew; CO2, The Culture, Triumvirate, and Pandemic Legion even dipped my toes into wormholes for a short time (WHs are scary; you really need Rat Jesus). Today I'm having a blast in Faction Warfare with the Minmatar Fleet Alliance. I've experienced all corners of space and I want to carry that breadth of knowledge to help everyone be heard.Areas of ExpertisePvPNull Sec/High SecSmall/Medium/Large gang PvPQualities That Set Me ApartI've flown across just about every region of New Eden, been shot at, and shot just about everyone. I'm a D-tier FC, C-tier nano pilot, and B-tier local trash talker. I understand the perspectives of pilots in High Sec, Low Sec, Null Sec, Faction Warfare, and Wormholes—and I'll make sure all voices are heard and concerns addressed. I'm not tied to anything other than helping CCP and the CSM help to keep making improvements on the game. Why I'm Applying for the CSMEVE and its pilots helped me through some of the toughest parts of my life. I want to give back by improving the game I love. I see room for more content and fresh objectives, and I'm committed to pushing for features that keep players engaged across every space. What Players Can Expect From MeA CSM who listens to every pilot, regardless of playstyle or localeActive relaying of your concerns, ideas, and feedbackAdvocate for new and balanced content in HS, LS, Null, FW, and WHsKey ProposalsNo citadel can be neutral in FW space put it on the line join one or the other.More Carrier/Dread iterationMore mechanics to prevent afk plexingAn in-game Abyssal marketplace the pilots yearn for a market!More dynamic community events that draw pilots out of their usual systems and spotlight every career path

Hello team, I am Rots Mijnwerker, alliance leader for Out of the Blue.My history in Eve Online has always been about creating experiences, playing in a community, and growing with the game. My time in EVE truly started in 2005 at the age of 13, playing religiously throughout middle and high school then well into college. Now after hitting my 30s, it's a lot easier to look back on the ebb and flow of what EVE has been.I've had the pleasure of playing with some great people and fighting others equally as great. I have been encouraged by the EVE community and truly embraced the community building aspect of what the game allows us to collaborate around. Then, I was a very staunch PVPer and sprung headfirst into leadership and FC'ing, today providing almost nightly content for anyone who wants to go forth and shoot.Over the years I have been in many alliances. In some I was the line member or diplomat, in others I was the Head FC, or I lead my own.
Greetings, Pilots. This is my very first ever CSM campaign.I started out in EVE Online in Autumn of 2011 at the suggestion of a former co-worker from a former business I used to work for, I wasn't too serious about his claims about EVE Online at the time until I did my research online, gotten the Commissioned Officer's Edition box at my local Gamestop, which I still have to this day, and I haven't looked back ever since. My Expertise on said subjectsPlanetary Interaction - Besides looking in awe of New Eden's most beautiful celestials and yet overlooked by some, I am a big supporter of PI Colonies not only for extracting resources from the ground up, as a Colonial Owner, where are my neighbors in this wonderful community? I would like to shake things up on a magnitude that gives interesting parties a look and possibly do something from orbit, if you know what I mean.PvP - I've dealt with fleet fights, Faction Warfare, and heck even I screwed around in lowsec areas where I really shouldn't have. Knowing a few meta tips and tricks, there has to be a motivation as to why should anyone join your fleet? The FPS Element - I've played all sorts of First Person Shooters going on 24 years now, been a closed beta tester for Dust 514 in 2012 all the way until TACNET shutdown, what I can bring to the table is that there's a LOT of PI Colonies sitting around and what we can do about that by giving players the chance to actually defend your colonies.
What if you had to create civilization with a Swiss Army knife and your will to stay alive? That is the mission you are tasked with in Eve Frontier.Their Cycle 2: Ash and Resolve begins today & we have some of the team with us to tell you all about:- The game & how it's connected to Eve Online- How this game utilizes blockchain to push the boundaries of what is possible in gaming- Why making a GREAT game should always take precedent over all else- How you can get started playing & how their cycles workListen now & tell us what you think!

While there are many founders of the video game industry writ large, the dawn of multiplayer gaming is a much more select group of luminaries and our guest today, Richard Bartle is most definitely one of them. He cocreated MUD1, the first Multi User Dungeon game as a college student and has gone on to help shape the academic view of gaming ever since.
