Archery Ops Podcast with Tim Gillingham Show Notes: I recently had the privilege of joining Tim Gillingham on his Archery Ops Podcast. On his show, Tim talks with the top experts in archery and bowhunting about what it takes to shoot better target after target, hunt after hunt, and shot after shot! Tim and I start off by talking about the history of the Days in The Wild Podcast and how it got to what it is today. We then get into hunting ibex in the Florida mountains of New Mexico, which for many hunters is the toughest hunt out there. It has the highest abandonment rate, and it's physically brutal, not to mention the constant dodging of poisonous snakes. Tim and I share some stories and compare notes. We also talk about bow hunting and why I'm considering picking up an even lighter bow to better manage in the cold weather. Tim shares some tips on ballistic efficiency and how to choose the right arrows at different site levels. We talk about how to shoot angles and trade some more stories around bow torquing. Tim asks me how I prepare for the hunting season, both mentally and physically. I used to do sports training, and since 1998, I have changed my mentality around hunt-specific training. Tim and I talk about how we like to target practice. We wrap up with our ideas on bow hunting education and how to get more folks involved and on board. What's Inside: Ibex hunting in New Mexico How to choose the right arrow for your hunt How I prepare for an upcoming hunting season Mentioned in this episode Days In The Wild Podcast Phoenix Shooting Bags save 20% with code johnstallone Howl for Wildlife: https://www.howlforwildlife.org/ Archery Ops Podcast Gold Tip on YouTube Short Description: I recently had the privilege of joining Tim Gillingham on his Archery Ops Podcast. Aron welcomes back great friend Bill Vanderheyden from Iron Will Outfitters to the show. In a previous podcast we did with Tim Gillingham, that stirred up a few alternate opinions, that being Bill's as well. They offer a "rebuttal" of sorts, serving up an alternate opinion on arrow and broadhead setups. Bill has been working with a local university in Colorado conducting extensive studies on arrow flight and the components impact up it. Components from the broadhead and point weight, shaft diameter, and vane material and configuration. The Ashby Foundation- with Rob Neilson, and Rob Hummel. Yep! You guessed it, arrow penetration. Fixed vs mechanical. Slow and heavy, vs light and fast. If this topic is not thee most argued topic in all of archery hunting, then I don't know what is. I know year in and year out it comes up on social media when you undoubtably will see one side of the industry "professionals" touting the light and fast side while taking what some would consider extremely long shots with archery tackle. Then there is the other side with very heavy, high FOC (front of center) arrows taking really up close and personal shots. One thing I know for sure, each side is very passionate about what they believe. If I'm being honest, I enjoy both arguments. I think it definitely comes down to situation(s). What you're hunting (animals). Where you're hunting (terrain). And, what you're shooting (type of bow).If you go back a few episodes I had Tim Gillingham on. To say Tim had a strong opinion of the "light and fast" That would be an understatement. But hey- It's Tim Gillingham, one of the world's best archers and a very accomplished hunter so his opinion counts, right!? If you're a data nerd you should check out their website and listen to this podcast, it's packed full of data! What say you? Light and fast- or slow and heavy. As always leave me some feedback, hit the like and share button. I hope you enjoy.
Find out what "Face Cheese" is and means from Chuck Cooley who is a full time optometrist as well as many other things. Tons of great information as usual, with special guest appearance by Tim Gillingham discussing his eye surgery.
Aron welcomes back the legendary Tim Gillingham to the podcast. And you'll never guess what they talk about! Archery. All things archery. On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we hang out with our friend Cory Miller, at his bowshop, xXx archery, in Rainier Oregon. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about arrows and arrow building since Episode 67 with Tim Gillingham. Tim dropped some knowledge on that podcast. Cory helps us make sense of Tim’s information on today’s show. And Cory tells us how to build and tune arrows. Welcome to the Arrow podcast. If you live in the NW and you’ve never been to the xXx archery shop, you should go there. Cory has a cool, indoor electronic shoot for you to play at. And he’s a limited distributor for Kifaru—so he has pack frames in his store that you can try on with an 85 pound bag of cement to see how it carries. And Cory runs the Kifaru Sawtooth shelter and stove setup—he is very knowledgeable about all things compound bow, backpacking, and hunting. We NorthWest guys are lucky to have him in our neck of the woods. This podcast has a lot of visuals so it’s worth watching. You can check it out on our youtube channel, grittybowmen.com or download it to your mobile device from GrittyBowmenTV on iTunes or Podbean for Android users.
