What if the one skill standing between you and reclaiming your time was something most high achievers refuse to do? In this power-packed episode of PivotMe, April Garcia tackles one of the most common — and costly — habits of driven leaders: doing everything yourself. Whether you've tried to delegate before and failed, or you've never quite figured out where to start, this episode hands you a proven roadmap. Key Takeaways: The 5W1H Framework: April introduces her signature delegation tool — a six-part method covering Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How. This framework takes the guesswork out of delegation and gives you a repeatable system for offloading tasks with clarity and confidence. Six Simple Steps to Effective Delegation: April walks listeners through a step-by-step process for delegating successfully — from identifying the right tasks to setting expectations and following up without micromanaging. Can Do vs. Should Do: One of the most powerful mindset shifts in this episode is understanding the difference between what you are able to do and what you should be spending your time doing. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Time is Your Only Non-Renewable Resource: April reminds listeners that unlike money, energy, or opportunities — time cannot be earned back. Delegation isn't laziness; it's strategy. Delegation as a Leadership Skill: Whether you're a seasoned executive or just stepping into leadership, effective delegation is not optional — it's essential. This episode dismantles the fear and perfectionism that keep high performers stuck. Notable Quotes: "The difference between what you can do and what you should do is where your growth lives." — April Garcia "Time is your most precious non-renewable resource. Stop spending it on things someone else can do." — April Garcia Actionable Items: List every task you completed this week. Circle the ones only YOU can do. Apply the 5W1H framework to one task you've been avoiding delegating. Identify one person — team member, VA, or contractor — you can hand that task to this week. Set a clear deadline and define what "done" looks like before you hand it off. Commit to checking in without taking the task back. ---------------- Ready to take this work beyond the podcast? In this episode of Encounter Culture, host Emily Withnall talks with Tony Tomei and Antonio Maestas, a master-and-apprentice duo who completed the New Mexico Arts Folk Arts Apprenticeship Program in 2024, focusing on accordion restoration and traditional New Mexico tunings. Tony and Antonio fell in love with the accordion in different decades and play different styles. Tony first encountered the accordion as a child in the 1950s, growing up in an ethnically diverse community where the instrument was central to social life.  "And that was before the Beatles came in the sixties and basically wreaked havoc with the accordion and everybody switched over to the guitars," Tony laughs. This episode tackles one of the most common and frustrating challenges teachers face: maintaining the positive classroom culture you worked so hard to establish after the honeymoon period ends. The good news? This is completely normal, predictable, and fixable with the right strategies. Dr. Anna introduces three foundational commitments that will anchor your approach: keeping expectations high, maintaining sharp routines, and continuing to develop relationships with students. These aren't just philosophical ideals; they're practical guideposts that inform every interaction you have with your students throughout the year. One of the episode's most actionable strategies is the power of consistent narration using the simple phrase "In this class, we always..." Dr. Anna explains how this language reinforces that your expectations haven't changed; students' behavior has drifted, not your standards. This reframing reminds students of the established culture rather than introducing something new, making it easier for them to align their behavior with what they already know. A critical insight addresses something many teachers don't want to hear: sometimes we are the source of negativity in our own classrooms. Dr. Anna tackles this with compassion and practicality, helping teachers recognize when their tone has shifted and providing concrete strategies to maintain positivity even when addressing behavioral issues. She introduces the "stop, reset, and narrate the positive" technique for handling challenging situations while preserving student dignity and maintaining accountability. The discussion of countdown strategies will revolutionize how you use this common classroom management tool. Dr. Anna explains why rushing through "5-4-3-2-1" doesn't work and instead shows you how to narrate specific, observable actions at each number while giving students actual time to comply. This approach transforms countdowns from empty threats into effective structures that create urgency while keeping instructions positive and clear. One of the most important relationship-preserving strategies Dr. Anna shares is about timing: have important conversations about behavior or chronic work issues privately, never during class time. She explains the damage that public correction causes (embarrassing students in front of peers, disrupting learning for others, and creating resentment) and shows you how to deliver brief, dignified redirects in the moment and then schedule private conversations when you can truly address underlying issues. Perhaps the most profound concept in this episode is the practice of "letting go" after delivering consequences. Dr. Anna emphasizes that holding grudges against students damages relationships and prevents them from moving forward positively. Students need fresh starts, and teachers need to provide them, not because misbehavior doesn't matter, but precisely because accountability has already been administered. This episode is essential listening for any teacher who's wondering why their once-smooth classroom is starting to feel chaotic, or for educators who want to proactively prevent the drift before it starts. Ever wonder why certain riders look like they belong to the road? We dig into that feeling and the function behind it, tracing smart motorcycle gear back to timeless cowboy wisdom. From a Texas upbringing around farms and ranches to mountain passes in Colorado, we share how a practical “uniform” shapes confidence, comfort, and control—and why the right kit matters long before a crash. We start at the top, treating the helmet like a modern wide-brim hat: a portable shade that cuts sun, wind, and fatigue so your brain stays sharp. Then we break down long-sleeve jackets that prevent dehydration and stop road debris from turning into injuries, with a clear case for armor that actually sits where you land. We get into the realities of lower-body protection, comparing denim and chaps to today's reinforced pants that handle heat, friction, and the slide you hope never comes. Finally, we plant our feet with real moto boots—why grip and ankle support beat sneakers at an oily stoplight, and how a good sole turns wobbles into control.Along the way, we talk identity: why some of us prefer dust over shine, how looking the part signals readiness rather than vanity, and how the lineage of travelers—cowboys to riders—shapes the way we move through towns and trails. The stories tie memories of hayfields and tractors to the present-day ride, proving that preparedness is its own kind of freedom. If you've ever wondered whether gear changes the experience, this is your nudge to suit up with purpose, not just style.Ride with us, then tell us your most valuable piece of kit and why it earned its place. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs better boots, and leave a quick review so more riders can find their road. Whether you're navigating your first year of teaching or looking to refine your practice, this episode provides the research-based tools you need to create a positive, productive learning environment. Dr. Anna opens with a powerful truth: how you handle those moments when students veer off course doesn't just affect that single interaction—it shapes your entire classroom culture and sets expectations for the whole year. The stakes are high, but the good news is that effective behavior redirection is a learnable skill, and Dr. Anna breaks it down into practical, actionable strategies that experienced teachers use every single day. The episode begins with a foundation that many new teachers overlook: thoroughly knowing your school's behavior policy. Dr. Anna explains why this isn't just administrative paperwork but rather your professional compass, backup system, and consistency tool all in one. When you respond to behavior in alignment with school-wide expectations, you become part of a cohesive system rather than making arbitrary decisions in isolation. This consistency creates security for students, builds confidence with parents, and provides you with clear guidelines during those challenging moments when emotions run high. One of the episode's most transformative concepts is positive framing—telling students what to do rather than what not to do. Dr. Anna provides concrete examples of how to reframe negative directives into positive ones, demonstrating how this approach reduces power struggles by providing clear direction rather than setting up confrontations. But she emphasizes a critical caveat: positive framing only works when you maintain your own emotional regulation. Your calm, controlled response while addressing issues models the exact self-control you want to see from your students. Dr. Anna then explores the often-underestimated power of teacher positioning and presence in the classroom. You'll learn why standing still at the front of the room after giving directions—before you begin circulating—communicates leadership and authority in a way that prevents many behavior issues before they start. This strategic use of physical presence shows students that you're engaged, attentive, and in charge of the learning environment. The discussion expands to cover the importance of acknowledging positive behaviors, not just as praise but as a teaching tool that shows all students what success looks like. Dr. Anna explains how this creates positive peer pressure and sets clear behavioral expectations. She balances this with the equally important need to address off-task behaviors promptly and consistently follow through with consequences. In one of the episode's most important clarifications, she emphasizes that being strict doesn't mean being mean—it means being consistent and reliable with both expectations and consequences. Throughout the episode, Dr. Anna maintains a realistic, encouraging tone that acknowledges the challenges of classroom management while providing hope and concrete strategies. She emphasizes that perfection isn't the goal—consistency is. By implementing these research-based approaches, you'll improve your classroom culture, enhance student learning, and significantly reduce your own stress levels. This episode is required listening for new teachers who want to move beyond reactive discipline to proactive behavior management, and a valuable refresher for experienced educators looking to refine their approach. Dr. Anna's practical wisdom, grounded in both research and real classroom experience, will give you the confidence and competence to handle behavior redirection with skill and grace. Risk has always been part of doing business. What has changed is its scale, speed, and interconnected nature. In this episode, Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli are joined by Megha Kumar, Chief Product Officer and Head of Geopolitical Risk at CyXcel, to explore how organizations can think more clearly about digital risk without becoming paralyzed by complexity.Kumar shares how digital resilience is no longer a technical problem alone. Regulations, infrastructure dependencies, geopolitical tensions, supply chain exposure, and emerging technologies such as AI now converge into a single operational reality. Organizations that treat these as isolated issues often miss the real picture, where one decision quietly amplifies risk across multiple domains.A central theme of the conversation is proportion. Kumar emphasizes that risk management is not about eliminating uncertainty, but aligning effort with value. Not every threat matters equally to every organization. Understanding who you are, where you operate, and where you are going determines which signals deserve attention and which are simply noise. The discussion also reframes geopolitics as a daily business concern rather than a distant policy issue. Companies operate inside global power dynamics whether they acknowledge it or not. Technology choices, supplier relationships, and market expansion decisions increasingly carry political and regulatory consequences that surface quickly and without warning.Rather than advocating for massive new departments or rigid frameworks, Kumar outlines a practical approach. Organizations can decide whether to avoid, mitigate, transfer, or tolerate risk, then revisit those decisions as conditions change. This mindset supports growth and innovation while avoiding the false comfort of static checklists. The episode closes on culture. Effective risk management depends on listening across roles, disciplines, and seniority. Internal dissent, diverse viewpoints, and external validation are presented as assets, not obstacles. In a world where uncertainty is constant, resilience comes from clarity, not control.Learn more about CyXcel: https://itspm.ag/cyxcel-922331Note: This story contains promotional content. Learn more.GUESTMegha Kumar, Partner, Chief Product Officer & Head of Geopolitical Risk at CyXcel | On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drmeghakumarcyxcel/RESOURCESLearn more and catch more stories from CyXcel: https://www.itspmagazine.com/directory/cyxcelAre you interested in telling your story?▶︎ Full Length Brand Story: https://www.studioc60.com/content-creation#full▶︎ Spotlight Brand Story: https://www.studioc60.com/content-creation#spotlight▶︎ Highlight Brand Story: https://www.studioc60.com/content-creation#highlight Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this insightful episode of "It's the Bottom Line That Matters," hosts Jennifer Glass, Daniel McCraine and Patricia Reszetylo tackle the crucial business skill of follow-up. The conversation opens with a discussion on how many touchpoints it really takes to secure client relationships, especially in environments where multiple interactions are often needed before a sale is made. The trio gets candid about their own follow-up habits—both the successes and the areas where they've fallen short—illustrating that even seasoned professionals sometimes struggle to stay on top of client communications.Listeners will learn about the different follow-up approaches that can work for a variety of businesses, whether retail, professional, or service-based. Daniel McCraine shares his experience of when consistent follow-up is a good investment of time, and when it's better to let clients come back at their own pace, especially in industries where readiness is a key factor. Jennifer Glass and Patricia Reszetylo discuss the advantages and challenges of relying on systems like CRMs, automated emails, and even handwritten notes, as well as the importance of mixing technology with personal touches. The episode also delves into preferences for how people like to receive follow-ups—whether by text, email, or traditional mail—and reveals the importance of choosing the right channel for your audience. For those who find follow-up daunting, the hosts remind us that doing something, even if imperfect, is far better than not following up at all. Wrapping up, the team encourages business owners to take action on long-forgotten contacts and leverage simple outreach to rekindle connections, reminding listeners that a simple message could lead to valuable new opportunities. This episode is a must-listen for anyone wanting practical, relatable advice on building stronger client relationships and boosting their bottom line through thoughtful follow-up.KEYWORDS: follow up, customer retention, client communication, CRM, automation, handwritten notes, direct mail, text messaging, email follow up, touch points, warm traffic, business relationships, sales process, thank you messages, networking, business cards, virtual coffee chat, sales funnel, prospect nurturing, mindset shift, coaching, consulting, automated touch points, reminders, promotional messages, service business, personal preferences, short code texts, business phone system, unsubscribe issues, client databaseHere are 3 actionable takeaways you can use today:Consistency beats perfection! Jennifer Glass suggests automating physical mail for a personal touch that stands out.Reconnect with old contacts. That stack of business cards from networking events? Use them as an opportunity. Learn more at https://podcast.feedspot.com/us_business_school_podcasts. Episode Quotes:Nikita on her biggest mindset shift[10:54] The biggest mindset shift that I've had to tell myself is that what you do right now does not define what you're doing in five years. I genuinely thought that because I was majoring in finance, and because everyone was doing banking, equity research, you know, investment management, that that's the path that I had to choose and, what I was doing in college was going to dictate my entire career. And I quickly took that mindset and changed it, and did that in my career at Microsoft as well. So I was like, if I leave finance and, let's say I do a job in engineering, I realize I don't like it, I have already made such great connections in finance, and I'm confident in myself that I can go back.Real leaders don't stay in one lane, they explore every side of the business[11:55] One of the biggest pieces of advice one of my mentors at Microsoft told me is that really successful leaders, at least at Microsoft, have truly taken a role or a stint in every part of the organization, whether that's horizontally or vertically. So when I say vertically, I'm talking about different products or different solutions. And at global companies, each product works as a completely different part of the business. They have different rhythms of business. Or horizontally, where I could either do engineering, or I could do strategy, or I could do marketing, or I could do finance. So that was like something that really stuck to me.Conquering the fear of stepping into the unknown[13:39] What advice would you give to young professionals who feel stuck or afraid to make that change because they feel like they're totally getting rid of that foundation and stepping into the unknown?[15:32] If you have a good leader, they will make sure that they're progressing your career. And so find those champions in your company, or I've done this on LinkedIn and I've reached out to people outside of my company and been very transparent like, ‘Hey, you can see that I'm in a finance role right now through LinkedIn, but I'm really curious to see how a role in product management would work. Like, could we chat? If so, I would love to talk to you about my concerns about leaving finance' And I find people who have done very similar career paths as  me, and there's so many people who have pivoted. And so I think reach out to people and be very transparent about why you're doing it and do it inside your company and outside of the company. How the alumni network helped Nikita and others navigate career pivots[21:07] What this alumni chapter really gives me is, one, a network that says, "Hey, we're all from the University of Utah. We all kind of had a similar education, and that's something that we can relate to regardless of what field we're in." And so second, let's just say I'm trying to do another pivot and I'm trying to go to a different company or try something new. I find if someone reaches out to me and they're from the University of Utah, I'm way more likely to trust them and their expertise, even though I haven't actually worked with them. And so, I mean, I've reached out to our alumni so many times when trying to maybe see if I want to work at a different company or maybe see if I want to go into a different field like engineering or something. And they were the most helpful. And so selfishly, that's what I gained from this chapter.Show Links:Nikita Siddamsettiwar | LinkedInDavid Eccles School of Business (@ubusiness) | InstagramUndergraduate Scholars ProgramsRising Business LeadersEccles Alumni Network (@ecclesalumni) | Instagram Eccles Experience Magazine

Young shares his experience as a fractional COO/CFO, helping companies between $10M and $100M in revenue make data-driven, sustainable growth decisions. The discussion dives into how founders can scale methodically, balance emotion with logic, and build systems that create long-term stability instead of short-term excitement.Building a Sustainable Business ModelYoung explains that scaling a business requires more than ambition—it requires structure, clarity, and discipline. As a fractional COO/CFO, he brings high-level strategy and operational focus to businesses that are ready to grow but not yet large enough for a full executive team. He emphasizes separating emotion from decision-making and using quantifiable data to guide growth, helping founders see where they can take calculated risks versus emotional leaps.A key part of his process is understanding the founder's actual goals—whether it's income, freedom, or eventual sale—and aligning operational and financial strategies around those priorities. Young believes in the power of methodical, “boring” business-building: creating repeatable systems, managing risk intelligently, and using debt strategically rather than emotionally. His philosophy proves that success doesn't require chaos or constant reinvention—it comes from consistency, structure, and clear decision frameworks.Young also encourages founders to embrace what he calls “Built Boring,” a mindset focused on long-term results over flashy short-term wins. By grounding strategy in data and disciplined execution, leaders can create scalable businesses that endure—ones that don't rely solely on the founder's daily grind to survive.About Young HanYoung Han is a fractional COO/CFO, serial entrepreneur, and founder of Always Han, where he helps companies scale through structured financial and operational strategy. Leadership Is Adaptability in Action Charlene Wheeless shares how true leaders move beyond hierarchical models: “You quickly learn that hierarchical leadership is quite ineffective…If you can connect with someone, you can lead someone.” Adaptability, active listening, and connecting with people on a one-on-one level turn authority into inspiration. 2. Vulnerability Is the New Power Tiffany Yu talks openly about leading with vulnerability and authenticity—especially in spaces that haven't historically made room for difference. “I believe that we have the capacity to be our full, authentic selves…Just different parts of it are showing up at different times.” Her approach shows how vulnerability, not perfection, drives belonging and possibility. 3. Listening and Empathy Build Trust Heather Younger explains her unique practices for making teams feel truly seen and heard: “I always have this practice where if I'll present an idea…I let them basically overvote me. That creates a sense of safety. And they know what, they can trust me.” Her actionable tips for active listening cut through disengagement and unlock deeper trust. 4. Integrity as a Strategic Asset The panel emphasizes how integrity isn't just a virtue. It's foundational to sustainable business success. Tiffany points out: “There is a business case for disability inclusion…how can we balance both the moral imperative with the economic imperative and have them in tandem?” Integrity shapes culture, attracts talent, and drives performance... not just reputation. Ep 370 Mastering the Art of Disrupting the Modern Pick-and-Roll

High School Hoops ( Coaching High School Basketball)

https://teachhoops.com/ In the landscape of modern basketball, successfully defending the ball screen is the bedrock of any elite defensive unit. The pick-and-roll is no longer just a play; it's the engine of most offensive systems, designed to create mismatches, force defensive rotations, and generate open shots. Therefore, a team's approach to defending it cannot be passive or improvised. It requires a clear, well-communicated strategy that all five players on the floor understand and can execute in unison. The initial action between the on-ball defender and the screener's defender is just the beginning; the true test lies in the disciplined rotations of the three help-side defenders who must anticipate the pass, tag the roller, and close out on shooters, turning a moment of offensive advantage into a defensive stop. Developing a robust ball-screen defense involves mastering multiple coverages and knowing when to deploy them. The specific scheme—whether it's a hard Hedge to temporarily trap the ball handler, a conservative Drop coverage where the big man protects the paint, an aggressive Switch to neutralize the initial action, or an Ice/Blue to force the play to the sideline—is dictated by several factors. A coaching staff must analyze the opponent's personnel (Is the ball handler a shooter or a driver? Can the screener "pop" for a three or only "roll" to the rim?), the position of the screen on the floor, and the time remaining on the shot clock. Building this defensive versatility requires countless repetitions in practice, ensuring that players can seamlessly communicate and execute the correct coverage call, transforming what could be a defensive liability into a predictable and manageable offensive attack.
