In this episode, entrepreneur and writer Alexander Svetsky shares stories from his wild ride through the crypto world. He talks about co‑founding one of the first Bitcoin‑only savings/exchange platforms and why dealing with regulators made him say "never again." Alexander also explains why he's building Satlantis, a Bitcoin‑powered ticketing app, and how his writing on economics and philosophy has influenced his entrepreneurial journey. We dive deep into Bitcoin's fundamentals—what makes it different from "shitcoins," why sound money matters, and how bad incentives distort economic behavior. Alexander breaks down how Bitcoin is backed by energy and how mining can even stabilize the power grid by flexibly using surplus renewable energy - cryptoforinnovation.org - and providing load‑balancing services - cryptoforinnovation.org - You'll hear why he believes decentralization beats trust in institutions and what industries could look like in a Bitcoin‑standard world. If you're curious about energy debates, Ponzi‑scheme cryptos, or the myth of Satoshi Nakamoto, this episode delivers fresh insights. Today is all about mega presences—performances with so much character, life, and musicality breathed into them by their actors that they seem to haunt an entire film and stick with you long after the credits have rolled and the house lights have come on. And we are thrilled beyond words to be joined by a one-of-one artist, the great Will Oldham! Jumping off from a rather intense skydiving scene in To the White Sea, Will talks to us about how you can craft a performance by drawing on formative experiences and memories of people you once knew. He also tells us about how you can perform for an audience by in some sense becoming the audience, and brings awesome insights to all of the Coens films we cover, often bringing in counterpoint scenes from other films that unlock the richness of the performances. Á næsta ári fagna Bandaríkjamenn því að 250 ár eru frá því að lýðveldi þeirra var stofnað. Margir sérfræðingar segja þó að staða réttarríkisins og lýðræðisins í þessu valdamesta lýðræðisríkis sögunnar hafi sjaldan ef aldrei verið í jafn mikilli hættu. Í þáttaröðinni okkar Konungssinnar í Kísildal kom Sveinn Máni Jóhannesson sagnfræðingur og talaði um stofnun Bandaríkjanna, en okkur langaði að fá hann til okkar aftur og nú til að greina stöðuna í dag, hvort amerískt lýðræði sé raunverulega í hættu. Við fjöllum svo um heimildarmyndina Paradís amatörsins sem var frumsýnd á Skjaldborgarhátíðinni í vor. This week, it's one zombie battle after another as we talk two big movies from the two big Paul Andersons... it's 2002's Resident Evil, written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starring Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Colin Salmon, Eric Mabius, James Purefoy and Martin Crewes. It's a movie that J Mo specifically picked up to do a whole parody of the PTA theme month we did last year (a "P.W.S.Autumn" if you will), so it's only fitting that we actually spend the bulk of this episode talking about Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, an absolutely stunning cinematic achievement and the best movie of 2025. Meanwhile, Hayley has caught Weapons not once but twice since we last spoke, and we use that as a springboard to look ahead at what we'd like to see from Zach Cregger's next project, as he tries to be true to the gameplaying experience of the original Resident Evil games. All that plus theatrical field reports from Justin on The Conjuring: Last Rites and The Long Walk! If you'd like to watch Resident Evil before listening along to our discussion, it can currently be found streaming in Canada on Netflix, Paramount+ and Hollywood Suite at the time of publication, while One Battle After Another is of course now in theaters. Other works discussed in this episode include Barbarian, Insidious: The Red Door, Alien: Romulus, Rye Lane, Carlito's Way, Licorice Pizza, Sinners, Inherent Vice, The Big Lebowski, 28 Days Later, Night of the Living Dead, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, and of course, as always, LOST. We'll be back in two weeks time with another Halloween-themed horror selection, but what this is we don't yet know, so keep your eyes peeled to our social accounts on Instagram and BlueSky to find out! Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

The Coen Brothers' 2007 Academy Award-winning thriller No Country for Old Men comes to our channel as Aaron Alexander & Andrew Gordon dive into a first-hand Reaction & Review of one of the most iconic modern Western crime dramas. Based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy and directed by Joel & Ethan Coen (Fargo, The Big Lebowski), the film follows the deadly chain reaction set off when Vietnam veteran Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin – Sicario, Deadpool 2) stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and takes off with a suitcase full of cash. His decision puts him on the radar of Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem – Skyfall, Vicky Cristina Barcelona), the cold-blooded hitman whose coin toss scenes have become some of the most chilling and famous moments in film history. Also starring Tommy Lee Jones (The Fugitive, Men in Black) as Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, who struggles with the moral decay and unstoppable violence he sees in modern crime, and Woody Harrelson (True Detective, Natural Born Killers) as Carson Wells, a bounty hunter caught in the crossfire, the movie blends psychological tension with brutal realism. With unforgettable scenes such as Chigurh's silenced shotgun and the iconic “call it” gas station confrontation, No Country for Old Men remains a haunting meditation on fate, chance, and justice. Aaron & Andrew break down the performances, themes, shocking ending, and the Coens' masterful direction that cemented this film as a modern classic. Meet Monica and David Kowalski, the husband-and-wife duo behind Colorado Springs' beloved Lebowski's Tap Room and the award-winning premium coffee liqueur, Lebowski's Kool-Luah. What started as Monica's dad's cherished family recipe has evolved into a craft liqueur that's earning rave reviews and found its way on Uncle Brad's shelf as his favorite coffee liqueur.  The Kowalskis share the heartwarming story of how endless compliments on the family recipe led them to take the leap from restaurateurs to craft distilling, creating a coffee liqueur that truly stands apart from the crowd. With its stunning mid-century atomic era bottle design that perfectly captures The Big Lebowski's laid-back aesthetic, this isn't your typical coffee liqueur—it's a premium experience that even has Uncle Brad declaring it his new go-to expression.  Monica and David guide listeners through their signature Hot Honey Espresso Martini, just one of the many creative coffee cocktails served at their taproom alongside an impressive array of White Russian variations. The conversation dives into the fascinating history of coffee liqueur, exploring how Lebowski's Kool-Luah builds upon the legacy of coffee liqueur pioneers while carving out its own unique identity in the spirits world.  The episode wraps up with invaluable advice from the Kowalskis on elevating your home bartending game, sharing how they've translated lessons from the corporate world about consistency and quality control into both their restaurant operations and their craft liqueur production. Whether you're a devoted White Russian, Espresso Martini enthusiast, or curious about the craft distilling world, this episode serves up the perfect blend of entrepreneurial spirit, cocktail craftsmanship, and that distinctly chill Lebowski vibe.  Lebowski's Kool-Luah Website: www.lebowskiskoolluah.com   IG: @lebowskis_koolluah  Lebowski's Taproom  Website: www.Lebowskistaproom.com  IG: @lebowskistaproom  Address: 3240 Centennial Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907 The Art of Drinking  IG: @theartofdrinkingpodcast   Website: www.theartofdrinkingpodcast.com   Join Jules  IG: @join_jules  TikTok: @join_jules   Website: joinjules.com   Uncle Brad   IG: @favorite_uncle_brad    This is a Redd Rock Music Podcast  IG: @reddrockmusic  www.reddrockmusic.com Learn more about your ad choices. O Brother, Where Art Thou? is a satirical comedy-drama musical film released in 2000, written, produced, and directed by The Coen Brothers. The film starred George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, and CHARLES DURNING in a 1930s Mississippi setting. In which a trio of escaped convicts travel across the American South in search of a supposed buried treasure, as Clooney attempts to re-connect with his divorced wife and children. The story was heavily influenced by Preston Sturges' film Sullivan's Travels, while also borrowing loosely from Homer's epic Greek poem The Odyssey, and featured a backdrop of period folk music, produced and arranged by T-Bone Burnett, and featured performances by Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, John Hartford, and numerous others. The film was a major box office success in its time, earned major critical praise for its sharp writing and gorgeous autumnal aesthetics, while its soundtrack swept the 44th annual Grammy Awards. On a rare, guest-free episode of Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott take in a viewing of O Brother, Where Art Thou? and are thoroughly delighted. (Not to give away the ending of the podcast.) Join them as they ruminate on ancient brands of hair cream, point out innumerable Big Lebowski references that are totally there, engage in time-honored bouts of fisticuffsmanship, and bask in the majesty of CHARLES DURNING.#HotDurnAutumn...with Lilz & Scott!

We explore important issues of the day including how this new film differs from a Joel and Ethan collaboration, how a more varied filmmaking approach impacts the experience of the viewer, and whether the film successfully defines its moral universe. Thank you so much to all of the panel guests. Special thanks to Focus Features. As we continue or Summer of Sam, we bring in Sam Elliott and finally rolling into the lanes of one of cinema's most beloved cult classics: The Big Lebowski. Starring Jeff Bridges as the effortlessly iconic “The Dude,” John Goodman as the unhinged Vietnam vet Walter, Steve Buscemi as the soft-spoken Donny, Julianne Moore as the enigmatic Maude, and John Turturro as the unforgettable Jesus Quintana, this 1998 Coen Brothers comedy had us laughing, quoting, and marveling at how well it still holds up. Whether it's the surreal dream sequences, the endlessly quotable dialogue, or the offbeat charm of every character, The Big Lebowski remains as fresh and funny as ever.Revisiting this film felt less like watching a movie and more like hanging out with old friends. The humor has aged beautifully—if anything, it's even sharper now that we're older and more attuned to its satirical brilliance. With a supporting cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tara Reid, and David Huddleston, the film continues to deliver unexpected laughs and layered performances. The Dude abides, and so do we. Join us for a nostalgic, hilarious, and surprisingly thoughtful conversation about what makes this film a true masterpiece of modern comedy.Stick around for a round of Trivia after the conversation.Safe bowling, dudes.
