This week, I invited I invited on two absolute luminaries in the gaming world in Emily Friedman and Trevor Valle to talk not only about the film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, but about the world around D&D complete with the history of the game and the politics surrounding table top gaming. And folks, this is such a cool deep dive into D&D. This is an appropriately dragon-sized episode; my gift to you for the final HATM Podcast of 2023.About our guests:Emily C. Friedman is an Associate Professor of English at Auburn University and teaches courses on British literature, book history, and game narratives. Trained as a book historian, narratologist, and digital humanist, her work examines the history of cultural production outside of commercial mass media from the eighteenth century to today, from never-published manuscript fiction to emerging media. Now one of the senior scholars and public intellectuals in the field of "Actual Play," a new media form where roleplaying games are performed for audiences, her research on the topic has appeared in multiple academic books and journals, The Los Angeles Review of Books, and she is a regular contributor to Polygon. She is at work on two book projects on Actual Play: a field-defining history of the form online, as well as a multiauthored critical companion to major Actual Play Dimension 20.Trevor Valle an American paleontologist and wildlife biologist. In addition to his extensive career in paleontology he has also served as personality on several notable paleontology and wildlife television programs and documentaries. He is also a professional TTRPG Dungeon Master. He has been a guest on numerous podcasts including Breaking Bio, the Science Enthusiast Podcast, and the Joe Rogan Experience.
The Monster Manual describes Dinosaurs as “behemoths that are among the oldest reptiles in the world. Predatory dinosaurs are savage, territorial hunters. Herbivorous dinosaurs are less aggressive, but they might attack to defend their young, or if startled or harassed. Dinosaurs come in many sizes and shapes. Larger varieties often have drab coloration, while smaller dinosaurs have colorful markings akin to birds. Dinosaurs roam rugged and isolated areas that humanoids seldom visit, including remote mountain valleys, inaccessible plateaus, tropical islands, and deep fens.” We are joined by Trevor Valle. Trevor is a part-time field paleontologist who specializes in the recovery and preparation of fossils, and making sure construction crews don't accidentally dig up mammoths. You might have seen him on the History Channel, or maybe on NatGeo digging up mammoths in Siberia, or a bunch of other shows talking about dead stuff and different catastrophic ways the world can end. He is a cast member of Negative2Charisma's “A Sinner's Dream”, the paleontology consultant and dinosaur creator for the new primeval D&D 5E campaign setting Planegea from Atlas Games, and the Creative Director of the upcoming Official D&D Hockey Jersey line from GeekyJerseys. The long-anticipated Genesis Paradise Lost movie from Eric Hovind's Creation Today is finally available on home video and around the world. The movie proudly declares a message of young earth creationism, using stunning visual effects and interviews with the likes of Bodie Hodge, Chad Hovind, Charles Jackson, Danny Faulkner, David Menton, Georgia Purdom, Jeremy Lyon, John Baumgardner, Ken Ham, Ray Comfort, Terry Mortenson, Tommy Mitchell, and Voddie Baucham. As the movie is packed with scientific claims, but not enough screen time to go in-depth, this series will endeavor to go slowly through each claim and take a careful look at each and how it contributes to our view of God.Part eight looks at approximately 59 minute to 62 minute mark of the movie. Thanks to Lois Edwards, RJ Downard, Jackson Wheat, Trevor Valle, and narrator Tony Reed.Genetically Modified Skeptichttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG1uayRlzz3ahT8ISRdyw7QScience of Genesis Paradise Lost playlisthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2W4g9BYYimU&list=PLpdBEstCHhmXRs5GQqgHHPh53S3vRddOdGenesis Paradise Lost channelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC86LFsm_pQuL4D0P0zkQgngFollow me athttp://www.patreon.com/paulogiahttp://www.twitter.com/paulogia0http://www.facebook.com/paulogia0https://teespring.com/stores/paulogiahttps://discord.gg/BXbv7DSSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/paulogia)

Should we boff on the Saber-tooth skull, or is Wooly Mammoth more your style? Paleontologist Trevor Valle is in Mexico doing fieldwork when he encounters Dawn, a blue eyed beauty who slowly warms to him. Hoping to impress his new girlfriend, he invites her to join him in the dinosaur lab late one night… If you've ever fantasized about sex on top of a priceless 37,000 year old fossil, this story's for you! #Direwolf #StrokeTheBone #Tattoos #MuseumAfterHours This week's storyteller: Trevor Valle is a part-time field paleontologist who specializes in the recovery and preparation of fossils. You might have seen him on the History Channel, or maybe on NatGeo digging up mammoths in Siberia. After a stroke caused by a mass in his brain sidelined him in October, he moved onto his other passion, role-playing games, and plays D&D weekly online. He likes dead things, big dice, and never gets sick of puns about bones or scoring that critical hit. Trevor was uninsured when he had his stroke, and could use your help.
