The American singer/songwriter Kesha's first major success came in 2009 when she was featured on rapper Flo Rida's number-one single "Right Round". She's since had two number one albums and nine top ten singles including Tik Tok, We R Who We R, "Your Love Is My Drug," "Die Young, and "Timber" with Pitbull. She has earned two GRAMMY nominations. Today she releases her latest album – Gag Order. She joins Anita to discuss the themes of love, anxiety and spiritual awakening. In a new study out today, scientists have suggested that humans kissing may have started 4,500 years ago in the ancient Middle East – that's 1,000 years earlier than previously thought. Anita finds out more from the scientist Dr Sophie Lund Rasmussen from the University of Oxford. The best selling author of the Geek Girl series, Holly Smale, was diagnosed as autistic in 2021, at the age of 39. She said she felt relief that she now has an explanation for why she's felt she's never “fitted in”. She couldn't herself anywhere. She needed to see herself in a book, so she wouldn't feel so alone. Holly has now written her first adult fiction – the highly autobiographical, The Cassandra Complex. She joins Anita to explain why it's important to her that autism is represented in the media. Anita is joined by another one of the women on our Power List celebrating 30 women in sport. Manisha Tailor is the Assistant Head of Coaching at Championship club Queen's Park Rangers and is the first woman to hold such a position in men's professional football in England. Manisha is also the founder of Swaggarlicious, an organisation that uses community football sessions to engage with minority groups including women and girls, and especially those with mental health challenges. ‘Depp vs Heard' is a three part C4 series that charts the tumultuous defamation trial between Johnny Depp and his former wife Amber Heard that was broadcast live in full. Mixing courtroom footage with the reaction from the millions who viewed it online, it's a story of twists and turns. And questions if a jury ever be truly fair in the age of social media? The BAFTA-nominated documentary director Emma Cooper, joins Anita from Los Angeles. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Louise Corley

We had the pleasure of interviewing Sophie Powers over Zoom video!Genre-blending singer-songwriter Sophie Powers has shared her eagerly awaited label debut single, “Nosebleed,” available now via Atlantic Records in partnership with TAG Music, the innovative new record label founded by trailblazing musician/entrepreneur Gabe Saporta (Cobra Starship, Midtown). Marked by its provocative lyricism and grungy twist on an inherently cookie-cutter genre, the track explores this generation's tendency to experience emotional extremes, as noted by the powerful chorus, “and we feel nothing even though we feel it all.” Toronto born, Los Angeles based artist Sophie Powers has been a force to be reckoned with since convincing her parents to let her drop out of high school and pursue a career in music at 16 years old, while also making her own clothes and becoming a fashion designer in her own right that fit the aesthetic and the direction she was heading with her craft. Within two years of taking that risk, she quickly earned attention for her direct and emotionally charged songs about teen relationships, depression, anxiety, all told through a unique musical blend of hyper pop, dark pop and punk pop. Powers' bold approach has reaped over 100K monthly Spotify listeners, close to 185K followers on TikTok (and more than 5.6M likes), 123K followers on Instagram, all affirming the immediate connection she has already made with fans around the world. NOSEBLEED, like all of Sophie's music, has a deeply rebellious spirit. Growing up, Sophie was drawn to strident, powerfully confident pop stars like Lady Gaga and Kesha, who struck down expectations of what it meant to be a “female artist” with little more than their own star power; the first show she ever went to was a Bruce Springsteen concert, an artist unafraid to unpick the social mores of conventional North American society and who made his way to arena stages through wry subversion. Avril Lavigne, Canada's patron saint of sarcastic, singular weirdos, was also a key influence. So you can understand how Sophie became the artist she is today: She was raised by musicians who valued individuality and, more importantly, pure honesty, above all else.Powers has raised her profile through features with artists like Kellin Quinn, NOAHFINNCE, DE'WAYNE, and $atori Zoom; collaborations with Bonnie McKee, Slush Puppy, Jon Lundin, Mike Gonek, Cam Hunter, Matt Squire, Jack Laboz, and Sacco; and show-stopping live performances spanning events like Subculture, So What Fest, and DUSK AZ Festival to tours and special guest slots with NOAHFINNCE, Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Peaches, and Scene Queen, Poptropicalslutz! Now, with “Nosebleed” and more new music to follow, Sophie Powers is creating her inimitable footprint… and the best part is, she's only just getting started. We want to hear from you! EJ grew up learning to play classical piano with the Suzuki method, learning by ear instead of reading music. In high school, he started singing and writing songs and eventually formed a band with his brother called Foreign Figures. They toured the country together and even played in front of 20,000 at a festival headlined by Kesha. Each band member is currently pursuing different career opportunities while still making music and playing shows together. EJ grew up in a conservative, religious town, which caused him to suppress his feelings of being attracted to men. After college, he married a woman. After a year or so, the marriage fell apart and EJ came out to his family and friends. EJ now lives as a proud gay man with his partner and Cavapoo, making his living as a vocal coach and music artist.
Alternative title: Guys, I just wanted to fly whirlybirds :( Alex and Natasha are a little late to this Royal shitshow, but as Kesha says 'the party don't start 'till I walk in.' Listen as an Australian socialist and an Irish psychologist feel sympathy, horror, anti-colonialist rage, confusion over why rich people throw the worst fancy-dress parties, stress over the current state of democracy, and indignation that in a house with a hundred bedrooms, Harry still had to share with William. And he got the shit side. We had the pleasure of interviewing Blusher Zoom video!Blusher are here making sparkly, energetic pop to soundtrack your night out. This Melbourne-based trio made a huge splash in 2022 when they released “Softly Spoken,” a slice of euphoric indie-pop. It was the first song they ever made together and the success of the track took the trio by surprise. But 2023 is primed to be bigger and better for the group: Blusher are releasing their latest single “Dead End” and gearing up for an EP, live shows and soon, a global takeover. In Blusher's metaphorical teen rom-com of a band, all three members are the leads. They share vocals on many of their songs and swap instruments during the live shows. They all produce and write together, utilizing their individual experiences cutting their teeth as solo artists before forming the band. “Our first day in the studio felt like an exciting combining of forces and we quickly realised how compatible we were as songwriters,” says member Lauren Coutts, who runs lead on the production of Blusher's music. Before officially meeting, their shared pop tastes and sounds had made them each familiar with each other in the wider Melbourne music community. Jade and Lauren were first officially introduced during a Zoom writing camp in late 2021.“Softly Spoken” would launch the wildest year of the girls' lives after it was released in 2022. On the day they dropped it, they were at a songwriting camp on a beach together and partied through the night. The next day, Lauren had received a message from their now-managers Powerhouse Management's Jamie-Rose Fowler and Charlotte Ried, who officially came on board soon after. By September, they played their first show at BIGSOUND, an Australian music festival and industry conference. Blusher spent months in a “boot camp” of sorts with a movement coach who encouraged them to go out dancing together. The final result was a highly choreographed set that allowed them to show off their individual multitude of talents. Minutes after stepping off stage for the first time, the group signed with Atlantic Records. Blusher spent the rest of 2022 in studio sessions working on their debut EP. “Dead End” and “Softly Spoken” tease a project focused on female friendship, inspired by the dance floor catharsis of heroes like Robyn, Kesha, the Black Eyed Peas, and MGMT. The songs track a night out, one full of break-ups and make-ups. We want to hear from you! Uncomfortable Conversations Podcast The Untold Stories of the 3HO Kundalini Yoga Community
This is a follow up conversation w/ Darci Laroque to share the lasting IMPACT of childhood neglect, abandonment, and survivalist 3HO training to breed "spiritual-warriors" that she, and other children of 3HO/Kundalini Yoga, "Sikh Dharma" received. Hint: It's NOT Healthy, Happy, or Holy. It's communal abandonment disguised as consciousness. You can support this broadcast HERE Subscribe to my new podcast - Uncomfortable Conversations on Predators in Business, Community and Culture - You can comment on each episode and subscribe to get it sent to you directly! GuruNischan.com ____________________ From Eps. 55: Darci Larocque, was born Darci Clack in 1971. Her father joined 3HO in 1974 in the New Haven Ashram. Her mom and father were divorced and at the age of 5, she started visiting the ashram in Dorchester, MA, where her father had moved. One day in first grade catholic school, her dad and a friend in full Bana showed up in the middle of a school day and took her. Darci was taken to the Dorchester ashram and even though her mom had full custody, her father wouldn't give her back. It was the 1970s - her mom, then 23 year old could not fight it so she joined 3HO and moved in. Darci's dad was Deva Singh. Her mom was Ram Sarn Kaur and her name became Upma. After Children's Camp in 1978, at 7 years old she was sent to the newly created Guardian Program in New Mexico where she stayed for years; first with one set of guardians then with the heads of the ashram. Which among other things, she had direct ranch access that only in hindsight she can now see as “special”. During this time, her mom moved to the LA ashram and YB engaged her to be married. She was supposed to go to India - but stayed behind with even more YB and ranch access. Her friends (other kids in the guardian program) left in the first group to Mussoorie, India. She ended up in LA and NM for a couple years back and forth. She was fully " out" at 13. Her dad stayed in until he died 16 years ago. Her mom left when she was 15 and she continued to work at the Golden Temple and stayed dressed in her turban while she worked. She died 7 years ago. Her whole life in 3HO was her life via her dad and friends. She didn't choose to “be cut” out. Until she was 40, she considered herself a Sikh. Uncomfortable Conversations Podcast The Untold Stories of the 3HO Kundalini Yoga Community
Darci Larocque, was born Darci Clack in 1971. Only in the past two years did she finally recognize that she wasn't a Sikh. She was raised in a cult. Kesha Mason Campbell is an Author, Consultant, Speaker, Coach and The Freedom Fixer. As The Freedom Fixer she teaches women that No is a complete sentence while showing them how to set healthy boundaries, and how to prioritize their needs above the needs of their loved ones. She has leveraged her education and expertise in finance, information technology, and training development to accelerate the productivity of corporate financial institutions for nearly 20 years. As the oldest and only girl among six brothers, she has had her share of journeys to take. With two of her brothers incarcerated for a combined total of 20 years, Kesha has had to endure many difficult circumstances. She learned very early in life not to mix business and her personal life. She found that this principle is a learned behavior, which can be unhealthy in some instances. In addition to compartmentalizing everything Kesha had to learn to set boundaries. Setting boundaries made it possible to manage all things in her life.During the time both her brothers were incarcerated she earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Las Vegas Nevada (UNLV) in Interdisciplinary Studies. While in college she worked full-time and advanced her career in the financial industry all while caring for them. They never wanted or needed anything while they were in prison.Kesha documents her healthy boundary-setting journey in “Not Your Journey To Take”. The book explores her personal experience identifying the difference between responsibility and lack of boundaries as the oldest of six siblings, the primary support system for her mother, with two of her brothers incarcerated. “Not Your Journey To Take” is one of its kind focusing on the experience of the caretaker and offering effective tools to support your loved ones and confidently prioritize your needs without guilt or regret.Kesha currently lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia as the eldest of six brothers and with no children of her own she has 13 nieces and nephews. And don't get him STARTED on the Adygea skulls! Jake then hops on the alien train with the Kovahsi creature, also known as Kesha. What's little and desiccated and doesn't have wings, no matter how many publications say otherwise? Google Translate will save us!“Horn core” is pretty fun to say. Welcome to our third album breakdown!I'm sure all of you remember Kesha's hits like "TikTok" and "Your love is my drug" and "Die Young" and "Timber" right?Well this album Rainbow is nothing like those songs. She is not only an incredible singer, but she is also a phenomenal songwriter and she blew me away with this album. I played this album nonstop for a whole year. She really did that. This album has everything from pop to rock to country to alternative and to folk. She is a true artist and I need people to start taking her a little more seriously. I love her so much and she really did change my life with this album. It's so freakin good! Hope you guys enjoyed my episode! I'll see you next week with a surprise episode...Support the show
Flashback Episode of The Father Time Podcast with Jamie KalerThese genius dads are my favorite single panel cartoonists since The Far Side. And as it turns out, they are some of my fave guests ever. I met them the day of the show and they are truly some of my funniest guests ever. Here's a little backstory. Daniel and Jeremy Lehrer are identical twin cartoonists and comedy writers. They grew up in a large extended family in Los Angeles where the emphasis was on academic excellence, classical music, fine art, and other activities designed not to get them laid. After respectively graduating from Columbia University and Columbia Law School, Jeremy became a small cog at a big corporate law firm, while Daniel became a small cog at Ducati Motorcycles in Bologna, Italy. They engaged in a half-decade of the usual post-graduation soul- crushing work, before deciding to “Voltron” together to pursue their dreams of drawing and writing. They are represented at CAA.@lehrerboys, Daniel and Jeremy's Instagram account, is inspired by their horrible childhood fights over the Sunday Funnies and who got to read “The Far Side” first.Their satirical and biting single-panel cartoons comment on everything from Kim Kardashian and “selfie etiquette” to gender-neutral toilets and masturbation in high-tech times. The Lehrer Boys bring an outsider perspective to their work. They have created, sold, and developed numerous shows with studios including Fox, Adult Swim, Maker, and Amazon, and have been privileged to collaborate with talent like Paul Feig and Mila Kunis. They also recently created “Highly Gifted,” a series of animated shorts with Maker Studios, based on their socially-challenged high school years and starring comedian Ron Funches, Josh Brener of “Silicon Valley,” Oscar-winner Nat Faxon, and pop-icon Kesha. You Check them out at https://www.lehrerboysshop.comYou can catch The Parent's Lounge live every Tuesday night 10pm EST/7pm PST at:https://www.facebook.com/theparentslounge#theparentslounge #thelehrerboys #jamiekaler #jasongowin #katemulligan #farside #HighlyGifted #funnydads #parentingpodcast #parentinghumor #standupcomedy
