God Gave Me a Dream to Leave the Trap… Three Weeks Later It Got RaidedIn this episode, Dino and his wife Rossi from SFG Studios share the true story of walking away from street life just in time—and how one decision changed everything. At the time, they were living in a trap house, selling drugs, and one step away from prison. They left with no car, no money, and no plan, ending up living in hotel rooms. Just three weeks later, the trap house they walked away from was raided, with arrests made and lives lost. They would have been there. What followed was real life. Hotel hopping. Job rejections. Humble beginnings. Rebuilding a marriage. Raising kids. Losing friends. Slowly watching things turn around. Today, they're making music, doing prison outreach, and using their past to reach people who feel stuck where they once were. This deep convo covers leaving the trap they were trapped in, the dream that triggered everything, and almost going back to prison. Starting over from zero, faith, money, mindset, survival, moving from street life into prison ministry, and why resources matter when you want to help people. This conversation is raw, honest, funny, and real. Is this the most half-baked movie of last year? Why couldn't ScarJo be a grown up version of Clone Girl from Fallen Kingdom? Why are we so obsessed with referencing the first movie? Why is the story engine just a lame video game plot? Did they have any idea what to do with this mutated dinosaur idea? And were they kidding with that Snickers product placement? Sadly, she sprained her wrist. The group came through with lots of ideas for what to do when you can't knit and crochet, including needle felting, doing puzzles, watercolors, playing with art supplies, journaling and as MrsQuilt put it, "whining, reading, and actually paying attention to what is on the TV" I am wishing you all health, happiness, and strong crafting mojo in the new year! I stayed with him from December 5-21. Dad and I had a lovely visit from our friend Merry who came with an unexpected gift- a bracelet with beads made from my mom's funeral flowers in red (ruby slipper), yellow (yellow brick road) and white for home. Dan and I had a lovely double date night at the Irish pub with friends. I was able to see my 7 year old niece Hattie as Gretl in Sound of Music (twice!!!) Making Aunt Milly's cookies with Riley and Millie (and having a sleepover with them). Christmas Eve & Christmas Day were both lovely. Definitely different without my Mom and grandmother there but it was still a joy to be together. Our friend Gail joined us as she usually does and brought all sorts of fun games for us to play. The Sunday after Christmas, I was able to spend all afternoon with my grandmother, some of that alone. My friend Megg came over because she wanted to visit and say goodbye. We had dinner together after. My friend Laura came in for NYE. Small get together with friends at my Dad's turned into a real party, though most didn't stay until midnight. Megg wanted it to be a sparkly kind of night so Laura and I got outfits for the three of us at the consignment shop on the way over! Very silly fun. My cousin Mike and his husband Kyle came up from Florida. My grandmother's services were beautiful with contributions from lots of family members. While it was more stressful than mom's, and it was the worst form of deja vu having the same schedule for that exact same Thur/Fri two years in a row- my grandmother would be happy with how it all turned out.  Skiing on Saturday after the funeral. 7 of us, impromptu trip, icy conditions but we still had a blast.   Quote of the Week "Amidst the normal hard stuff is the abnormal hard stuff. You may be doing great, but no one great always had it great. At the end of each day, as you prepare for the next, I hope you take an inventory of your life, your thoughts and where you're headed. In this special year-end episode of Inside the Network, we're joined by two of the most trusted strategic advisors in cybersecurity - Dino Boukouris, Managing Partner at Altitude Cyber, and Sam Bronstein, Partner at AXOM Partners. Between them, they've worked on billions of dollars in cybersecurity M&A, helped founders navigate exits to the world's largest tech companies, and advised the CEOs behind some of the biggest public and private deals in the industry. In this episode, which also happens to be the 20th episode of Inside the Network, we break down what really happened across the cybersecurity landscape in 2025, from customer buying patterns and budget constraints to the $96B in M&A deal volume. Dino and Sam share insights on what's driving consolidation, how buyers think about valuation and timing, and what defines a hot company in 2026 (hint: it's not just growth). We talk about how mega-deals like Wiz and CyberArk are reshaping competitive dynamics in the industry, why SASE, identity, and security for AI have been the most active M&A themes, and what founders need to understand about building relationships with buyers long before they're ready to exit. Sam and Dino explain that founders who achieve the best outcomes usually build relationships with potential acquirers over many years, and break down why many late-stage founders are likely to choose acquisition over IPO in the coming cycle. We close with tactical advice for founders heading into 2026: how to think about your board and investors, what metrics you'll be judged on, and how to align your capital strategy with your long-term goals. And yes, we also talk about race cars, zero interest rates, outcome-based pricing, and what Palo Alto Networks might buy next.

DINO, AND SAMMY, AND FRANK - O MY!What tomfoolery! It's 4 o'clock in the morning, and these bad boys are just getting started. This recording is a rare glimpse into the real, live, Rat Pack experience - and, the slightly distorted, overloaded sound is just part of the cinema verite. “YOU ARE THERE,” as Walter Cronkite once intoned. The year is 1962. Dean Martin has circled back to the 500 club in Atlantic City, where his career with Jerry Lewis first exploded, and his rat pack brothers in arms are there to support. For anybody devoted to, or interested in this celebrated entourage of 20th century entertainers, you can't get any closer to the actual experience of being there. The banter is not particularly clever (they're enjoying themselves, I won't say MORE than the audience, but equally, at least). There are lapses in taste and attention to keeping the show moving - (an extended drunken improv about stools is one example) - and, though the finest singers of that generation are not always on perfect pitch here, it matters not a jot! The real personalities of these icons is vividly on display. The pecking order and inter-relationships are fascinating. And, as far as sheer entertainment value goes: The band swings hard, the legendary Sammy Davis Jr. sings, dances, and does impressions; Sinatra and Dino croon medleys to die for, and the whole 40 minutes is boffo. Not to be missed!“The 4AM Rat Pack performance presented here was privately pressed on vinyl as a special gift to very special 500 Club patrons. We present this untouched audio from the original acetate as it represents the taste and feel of this historic occasion.”By Don AltobellI will never forget August 26, 1962.I was 24 at the time and after having the good fortune of seeing Dean Martin's appearance at the 500 Club in Atlantic City on Aug 19 -- his first solo gig since his split with Jerry Lewis -- the following week gave me an added treat. Thanks to a drawing I did of Dean, I was able to see his opening shows and also attend rehearsals. The baddest "Kat" in the Chevy truck world might surprise you—because it all started with Volkswagens. In this episode, we sit down with  "Dino Battilana, the mastermind behind the world-famous Dino Git Down Chevy truck show in Phoenix, Arizona, one of the largest and most influential classic Chevy C10 events in the country. For more than 10 years, Dino Git Down has drawn Chevy pickup trucks from all over the United States and international visitors, growing into an absolute monster of a show. With over 13,000 trucks attending last year, it has become a must-attend event for classic truck enthusiasts, custom builders, and C10 fans worldwide. But before the C10 fame, Dino's automotive journey began in the Volkswagen world. In this episode, we dive deep into his VW roots, his passion for air-cooled Volkswagens, and how that foundation shaped his approach to building, design, and community. We also break down his latest personal build—a jaw-dropping 1960 Volkswagen that defies categories. While it looks like a convertible, the window channels have been permanently sealed, making it a true open-air cruiser with a unique custom twist. This VW features air suspension by Levi at Pan Draggers, traditional styling mixed with modern creativity, and even subtle Chevy-inspired interior details—a perfect crossover of two iconic automotive worlds. We talk shop on custom fabrication, air-ride setups, vintage Volkswagen styling, and how his love for VW culture helped influence the growth of one of the biggest classic truck shows in the country. If you're into classic Volkswagens, Chevy C10 trucks, custom car culture, air suspension builds, automotive event history, or the evolution of car shows, this episode is a must-listen. We cover Dino's  full journey—from air-cooled VW beginnings to building an automotive empire—and how Dino Git Down became the global phenomenon it is today.  Enjoy

Amy Rutherford on Smooths, Bred-By Success and Preservation Breeding [caption id="attachment_14897" align="alignleft" width="961"] Amy Rutherford winning Best Bred By Exhibitor at AKC National Championship with Wager.[/caption] Today's episode brings you a rare conversation with someone who does not say yes to interviews very often. Amy Rutherford joined host Laura Reeves for a holiday visit and the timing could not be better, fresh off her Best Bred-By Exhibitor win at the AKC National Championship with her Smooth Fox Terrier, Wager. For breeders, exhibitors, and dog show fans, this conversation delivers real insight into what it takes to build a program that lasts. From a childhood dog show moment to a lifetime in terriers [caption id="attachment_14896" align="alignleft" width="356"] Rutherford with one of her foundation Smooth Fox Terriers.[/caption] Amy's path started early. Her parents were horse people who also kept Australian Shepherds before they were AKC recognized. A winter trip turned into a defining moment when the family got snowed in and visited an AKC dog show. From the stands, young Amy watched Smooth Fox Terriers in the ring and knew she wanted that life. The journey was not immediate. Her first breed was Airedales, which taught hard lessons about grooming, structure, and realistic expectations. Eventually, she saved money and purchased Smooth Fox Terrier puppies that both finished quickly and became group winners. That early success did more than build confidence. It created a foundation and one of those early bitches still anchors the pedigree behind her dogs today. The handler apprenticeship that built a career Amy's handling career developed the way the best ones often do, through years of real work. She spent summers helping professionals and then committed to a full apprenticeship with Eddie and Leslie Boyes. She stayed for nine years, learning the daily realities of conditioning, presentation, animal husbandry, trimming and the logistics that define show life. [caption id="attachment_14894" align="alignright" width="278"] Rutherford showing Dover, Ch. Aimhi Type Cast, at Westminster Kennel Club.[/caption] That apprenticeship is a major takeaway for anyone interested in becoming a professional handler. Amy explains that experience builds skill and it builds a network. When she went out on her own, she had the credibility and connections that make the difference between surviving and thriving. Showing different breeds and winning with controversial dogs One of the most valuable parts of this episode is Amy's honest discussion about stepping into breeds that are not part of your original comfort zone. O dinheiro, destinado a despesas como gasolina e passagens, era investido em empresas de fachada para lavagem de dinheiro. as with all demo-heavy and especially vision AI podcasts, we encourage watching along on our YouTube (and tossing us an upvote/subscribe if you like!) From SAM 1's 11-million-image data engine to SAM 2's memory-based video tracking, MSL's Segment Anything project has redefined what's possible in computer vision. Now SAM 3 takes the next leap: concept segmentation—prompting with natural language like "yellow school bus" or "tablecloth" to detect, segment, and track every instance across images and video, in real time, with human-level exhaustivity. And with the latest SAM Audio (https://x.com/aiatmeta/status/2000980784425931067?s=46), SAM can now even segment audio output! We sat down with Nikhila Ravi (SAM lead at Meta) and Pengchuan Zhang (SAM 3 researcher) alongside Joseph Nelson (CEO, Roboflow) to unpack how SAM 3 unifies interactive segmentation, open-vocabulary detection, video tracking, and more into a single model that runs in 30ms on images and scales to real-time video on multi-GPU setups. We dig into the data engine that automated exhaustive annotation from two minutes per image down to 25 seconds using AI verifiers fine-tuned on Llama, the new SACO (Segment Anything with Concepts) benchmark with 200,000+ unique concepts vs. the previous 1.2k, how SAM 3 separates recognition from localization with a presence token, why decoupling the detector and tracker was critical to preserve object identity in video, how SAM 3 Agents unlock complex visual reasoning by pairing SAM 3 with multimodal LLMs like Gemini, and the real-world impact: 106 million smart polygons created on Roboflow saving humanity an estimated 130+ years of labeling time across fields from cancer research to underwater trash cleanup to autonomous vehicle perception. We discuss: What SAM 3 is: a unified model for concept-prompted segmentation, detection, and tracking in images and video using atomic visual concepts like "purple umbrella" or "watering can" How concept prompts work: short text phrases that find all instances of a category without manual clicks, plus visual exemplars (boxes, clicks) to refine and adapt on the fly Real-time performance: 30ms per image (100 detected objects on H200), 10 objects on 2×H200 video, 28 on 4×, 64 on 8×, with parallel inference and "fast mode" tracking The SACO benchmark: 200,000+ unique concepts vs. 1.2k in prior benchmarks, designed to capture the diversity of natural language and reach human-level exhaustivity The data engine: from 2 minutes per image (all-human) to 45 seconds (model-in-loop proposals) to 25 seconds (AI verifiers for mask quality and exhaustivity checks), fine-tuned on Llama 3.2 Why exhaustivity is central: every instance must be found, verified by AI annotators, and manually corrected only when the model misses—automating the hardest part of segmentation at scale Architecture innovations: presence token to separate recognition ("is it in the image?") from localization ("where is it?"), decoupled detector and tracker to preserve identity-agnostic detection vs. identity-preserving tracking Building on Meta's ecosystem: Perception Encoder, DINO v2 detector, Llama for data annotation, and SAM 2's memory-based tracking backbone SAM 3 Agents: using SAM 3 as a visual tool for multimodal LLMs (Gemini, Llama) to solve complex visual reasoning tasks like "find the bigger character" or "what distinguishes male from female in this image" Fine-tuning with as few as 10 examples: domain adaptation for specialized use cases (Waymo vehicles, medical imaging, OCR-heavy scenes) and the outsized impact of negative examples Real-world impact at Roboflow: 106M smart polygons created, saving 130+ years of labeling time across cancer research, underwater trash cleanup, autonomous drones, industrial automation, and more — MSL FAIR team Nikhila: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikhilaravi/ Pengchuan: https://pzzhang.github.io/pzzhang/ Joseph Nelson X: https://x.com/josephofiowa LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/josephofiowa/ [FLIGHTCAST_CHATPERS]

THE SPLENDID BOHEMIANS PRESENT A "DOUBLE TROUBLE" CHRISTMAS CRACKER! TWO HOLIDAY DELICACIES TO GET THE FESTIVITIES STARTED - WITH HARVEY KEITEL AND THE TURTLES. DOUBLE DOWN!!

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 10, 2025 19:14

Today, we feature a Christmas cracker that offers some new perspectives on one of our most treasured holiday traditions - The Xmas Song: First, The Turtles, singing “Christmas is My Time of Year,” then, the esteemed actor, Harvey Keitel, telling an off the wall Christmas story, from the film Smoke.Putting on a favorite holiday tape or CD as you wrap the presents or trim the tree was always a highly anticipated ritual - Frank, Dino, Elvis, or Bing never failed to make the season bright. In the 60's Rock era, of course, Phil Spector's album was a must. Every pop artist has made one, even Bob Dylan. It made Irving Berlin and Mel Torme millions.  It's generally a can't miss proposition. But, I'll bet you never considered these selections. One isn't even a song; and then there's the Turtles number, which is seemingly on the money, but not universally known. THE TURTLES"Christmas is My Time of Year" was written by the jewish Howard Kaylan and the Turtle's bassist and veteran of the Modern Folk Quartet, Chip Douglas. Douglas also produced, populating the recording with such country rock luminaries as Gram Parsons and Linda Ronstadt. The track has a folksy flair with its twangy guitars and dobros. It's military 4 on the floor marching beat gives it an overly perky, trying too hard feel, but it's still a lot of fun - and that's the mark of a good Turtles song. isn't it?: always promoting optimism and good feelings. Even when they're singing dark material like PF Sloan's “Let Me Be” the music counterpoints the dreariness with sunshine.HARVEY KEITEL in SMOKERich threw this curveball into the mix, and I LOVE IT! Mr. Keitel has always been a favorite of ours - and in this clip from Wayne Wang's Smoke he knocks it out of the park with this shaggy holiday story negotiating the mixed up urges of conscience and larceny. At the end of the segment there is a black and white rendering of the story accompanied by Tom Waits, singing “Innocent when you Dream”.And, it's here that the overall theme emerges: Christmas is that time when we aspire to live up to our best selves. But, there are so many contradictory images that interfere with this aspiration. We are exhorted to consume, going into debt for the good of the economy, and to our peril. All around us we might notice that the lonely and disenfranchised are suffering worse than ever during this time. So, we look away, trying not to face the disturbing prospect that it could be us next year. We're only human, after all - but, to be better more than just one day out of the year shouldn't be asking too much. But, how to begin?
