It's Monday, April 3rd, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Imprisoned Cuban religious leader denied medical leave A leader of the Association of Free Yorubas, an independent Santeria-type religious group in Cuba which combines Catholicism, the West African Yoruba religion, and a polytheistic belief in Spiritism, has been denied permission to receive medical treatment outside the maximum-security prison where he is being held, reports Christian Solidarity Worldwide. Loreto García was detained on July 16, 2021 as part of a government crackdown on protestors who participated in spontaneous and peaceful demonstrations across the island on July 11, 2021. He is serving a seven-year sentence in Guamajal Prison on charges of disrespect and public disorder. Family members of García said he has diabetes and hypertension, and symptoms of pancreatic cancer. After submitting a request for temporary medical leave on October 26, 2022, Cuban authorities denied it on March 19, 2023. Worldview listener reacts to Trump's indictment In reaction to The Worldview's coverage of the indictment of former President Donald Trump, Gian Ryan of Centerville, Tennessee, a homeschool mother of nine, wrote me at Adam@TheWorldview.com. She said, “If the allegations of fraud to cover up adultery are true, it is a great mercy to Mr. Trump that they are brought to light, that perhaps he would be convicted to repent. If Trump has committed these sins, it is right for him to have the law deal with them. “God placed rulers to punish evildoers. [1 Peter 2:13-14] It seems they are doing their job. (It is a separate issue that authorities may be doing their job with partiality. God will, without a doubt, deal with them in due time.)” Mrs. Ryan said, “I believe that Mr. Trump calls himself a Christian. If any of the allegations are true, may God bring Mr. Trump to his knees, saying, ‘God have mercy on me, a sinner! I have committed adultery and fraud! Handcuffs, a mugshot, and prison time would be only the tiniest tokens of proper punishment for me when I deserve an eternity in Hell. Thank you Jesus for the blood that covers all my sins.' “If Mr. Trump is a Christian and these allegations are false, may his grief be that Christ's name was harmed rather than his campaign harmed.” Exodus 20:14 says, “You shall not commit adultery.” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy weighs in on Trump indictment Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted, “Alvin Bragg has irreparably damaged our country in an attempt to interfere in our Presidential election. As he routinely frees violent criminals to terrorize the public, he weaponized our sacred system of justice against President Donald Trump. “The American people will not tolerate this injustice, and the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power to account.” Abby Johnson wants to lead abortion workers out of industry Prominent pro-life activist Abby Johnson, the former director of Planned Parenthood in College Station, Texas, is praying for an “exodus” of abortion workers who will abandon their jobs and change their lives. Johnson's organization And Then There Were None, a group dedicated to helping ex-abortion clinic workers rebuild their lives, will launch Exodus 2023 today. She told CBN's Faithwire, “Abortion workers are often overlooked in the national debate on abortion, yet they suffer immensely because of their job and what it entails.” ESPN blasted for promoting male during Women's History Month As ESPN celebrated Women's History Month, they featured William Thomas, a biological male, pretending to be a woman, and calling himself “Lia.” ESPN REPORTER: “In 2022, swimmer ‘Lia' Thomas became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA division one championship by winning the 500 Freestyle. The Texas native competed for three seasons on the men's swim team at the University of Pennsylvania. She began her transition after her sophomore season, and made her debut as a member of the Women's team in December 2021.” THOMAS: “Being trans is not a choice. I didn't have any other choice because not transitioning was not leading anywhere.” ESPN REPORTER: “She competed amidst criticism from the swimming community, competitors, and teammates. She said she called her persistence serves a larger purpose.” THOMAS: “People will say, ‘Oh, she just transitioned so she would have an advantage, so she could win. I transitioned to be happy.” Riley Gaines, a 12-time All-American swimmer who competed at Kentucky, was livid with ESPN. She tweeted, “Lia Thomas is not a brave, courageous woman who EARNED a national title. He is an arrogant cheat who STOLE a national title from a hardworking, deserving woman. The NCAA is responsible. If I was a woman working at ESPN, I would walk out. You're spineless.” Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Anniversary of Morse Code developer's death And finally, ever wonder how Morse code got its name? It was named after the developer, Samuel Morse, who was born in 1791 and died on April 2, 1872.  That's 151 years ago yesterday. While returning by ship from Europe in 1832, Morse encountered Charles Jackson of Boston, a man who was well schooled in electromagnetism. Witnessing various experiments with Jackson's electromagnet, Morse developed the concept of a single-wire telegraph and was a co-developer of Morse code. On May 24, 1844, Morse sent the first telegraph message from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. to his assistant, Alfred Vail, in Baltimore, Maryland. It was a question:  "What hath God wrought?" Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, the first child of Calvinist pastor Jedidiah Morse (1761–1826), Samuel Morse also became an accomplished painter.  When he was 20, his father arranged for a three-year painting study under the tutelage of Benjamin West in England beginning in 1811. Morse's first wife, Lucretia, died in 1825 of a heart attack shortly after the birth of their third child. Twenty-three years later he married his second wife, Sarah, with whom he had four more children. On April 7, 1991, Joe Travis was found dead from a single gunshot wound to the head in an apartment complex in Cleveland, OH. Witnesses indicated the murder resulted from a drug transaction that had gone awry. Two weeks later, Ronald Lacey was arrested on drug charges and told police that he witnessed the Travis murder and described what he believed to be the shooter's car: a late 70s Monte Carlo. Cleveland Police recalled stopping a car that fit this description, as they suspected the driver was carrying drugs. The driver, 27 year old Charles Jackson, had no drugs, but was arrested anyway. Officers found the arrest record and charged Charles for the murder. Despite the witness identifying someone else, and despite Charles's solid alibi, he was convicted and sent to prison. Appointed by Philip Roth and granted independence and complete access, Blake Bailey spent years poring over Roth’s personal archive, interviewing his friends, lovers, and colleagues, and engaging Roth himself in breathtakingly candid conversations. His new book is: "Philip Roth: The Biography." Bailey shows how Roth emerged from a lower-middle-class Jewish milieu to achieve the heights of literary fame, how his career was nearly derailed by his catastrophic first marriage, and how he championed the work of dissident novelists behind the Iron Curtain. Bailey examines Roth’s rivalrous friendships with Saul Bellow, John Updike, and William Styron, and reveals the truths of his florid love life, culminating in his almost-twenty-year relationship with actress Claire Bloom, who pilloried Roth in her 1996 memoir, "Leaving a Doll’s House." Blake Bailey is the author of biographies of John Cheever, Richard Yates, and Charles Jackson. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and an Award

It's January 2, 1982.  Joan Stewart is raped, strangled, stabbed several times and murdered in the woodlands near Montclair, California. It was the work of the EAST BAY SLAYER. Charles Jackson started his lifetime career of crime when he was arrested and charged with theft at 16. Over the next 28 years, he’s repeatedly incarcerated for committing burglary, rape, assault and molesting minors. After Jackson died in prison in 2002,  authorities learned he slayed more than eight people…. because of the tenacity of Deputy District Attorney Rockne Harmon's pursuit of DNA profiling.

Finding Fertile Ground Podcast: Stories of Grit, Resilience, and Connection

“I grew up in a way where I was determined that I would not allow myself to be judged by my skin color,” said Charles Jackson II about seeing George Floyd’s murder. “I wanted to present myself as a positive contributor to society, and I went out of my way to do that. And a lot of stuff that was going on in the Black community and even around me, I tried to black out. :When I saw George Floyd and the manner in which he was killed, that was the first time in a long time that I had cried and felt such a wave of emotions, seeing somebody killed...I sat there and I cried, literally...because of everything I tried to suppress and block out, and all of the striving I had done just to make people see a Black man in a different light and hopefully spark change...it just came down on me...I cannot step out of my Black skin.”..."I cannot escape all the negative associations with being a Black man regardless of how much I tried and all the effort I put in. And as I sat there and watched George Floyd’s incident, all of that just came out...and all the pressure and the weight I’ve been carrying...trying to be a positive contributor to society, but feeling like I had failed...hit me... I sat there as a 37-year-old man, sad for him and his family. But there was a lot of pain and regret and anguish that came out as I watched it.”Charles grew up in Daytona Beach, in a rough part of town. He spent a lot of time outdoors, playing basketball. Charles was the first person in his family to graduate from high school and college. After getting married, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. After 10 years of active duty, he earned his bachelor’s degree in social and criminal justice. As a child, Charles wanted to become a police detective. He wanted to bridge the gap between the community and the police. Now he is eight classes away from earning his master’s in divinity. Charles has ideas about police reform. When he was contemplating a career as a police officer, friends in law enforcement shared with him in confidence that some cops take the badge just so they can continue to oppress Black people. “I would like to be one who could go in and challenge and teach...and then reform from that aspect...we all have that same heart beating in our bodies, that will allow us to have empathy for someone who doesn’t look like us and act like us,” said Charles. “We just need to break down some of those walls and some of that ignorance...so that we can actually start the change and see people differently.”“Leadership is near and dear to me,” said Charles. He created the Relational Leadership Network to share tips for leaders, built on the premise that healthy relationships increase work productivity and boost the bottom line. I had a wonderful time interviewing Charles, who I first met when he interviewed me about my article, “The Weapons of White Women’s Tears.” I asked why he didn’t give one of his sons the name he shared with his father. As a child, he wanted to be just like his father, but when his dad cheated on his mom, he lost all respect for him. They reconciled before his dad passed away, but he regrets he didn’t do it earlier. “The more we go through things, our resiliency level begins to rise,” Charles said. “As hard things come our way, we might take a stumble but we don’t get knocked down as far as we would have had we not continually gone through stuff and overcome it.” On the last “Three Men of Color, Redefining Fatherhood” episode I interview Ken Harge, a Black man in Connecticut who is writing a symphony! After a falling-out with his parents, he has become a father figure to a young man through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

I was able to get an interview with Dr. Charles Jackson of Liberty University. He is a Creation Scientist. Our topic is the gospel and science...are they compatible? We are taught only one version of our origins in school and that can have a profound effect on us and our trust in the bible and even the gospel. The interesting thing is I went to a secular university in the mid-2000s and received an undergrad and graduate degree. I loved science and came out with my faith in God's word intact. I had fun debates with my professors. But a question I asked the Lord when Mary and I set out to study to live a praiseworthy life to God was: "Lord if I am going to study Your Word I want to know how to look at the Creation story?" You may find this podcast fun. Here is the podcast link if you like: https://biblestudycompany.com/blog?category=35 Several questions we discuss are: • Why are 6 days of Creation important versus evolution's "long age theory"? • Is there a clash between world-views? • How should a Christian approach the bible? • If you are a scientist that believes in God you have a bias but a scientist who does not believe in God also has a bias? • Jesus said that Adam and Eve, Noah and Abraham were real people. Can we trust the biblical account of 6 days? • If we accept long age theory, what do we do with death since the wages of sin is death? Our position on biblical creation is crucial for the Gospel. Why? The Lord Jesus Christ in the new testament shared that Adam and Eve were real people as well as Noah, Abraham, and even Jonah. The world is His House and His Rules. Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 *"16 All Scripture is God-Breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 *"16 All Scripture is God-Breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." Many Christians do not want to think about the 6 days of Creation biblical account AS 6 DAYS. Why not? Only one worldview of science is taught in secular schools, and that is evolution. If we are going to approach the Bible to be obedient as disciples, then the account given in Genesis should produce faith in us that we can trust a God Who could speak the universe into existence in 6 days. He even knew us in the womb and formed us for His purposes…psalm 139. The "fall of man" into sin by rejecting God's one command explains how the world is decaying due to sin and death. With our sin, we require saving! Sin, as a result of the fall of man, our true nature for rebellion to God is exposed. While we like to think we are a good person, the 10 commandments in Exodus 20 says differently. Christ endured the wrath of God on the cross for humanity's sin. We are all liars, thieves, and blasphemers. Let's turn to Him for salvation and after that, let's put our full trust in the biblical account of our origins. Diversity Dad podcast - Helping dads to “buck conventionally” and celebrate doing fatherhood differently.

Today we will learn a lot from Charles Jackson’s history. Learning how to put family first and how to deal with divorce and the distance from his kids. A big cautionary tale that will certainly make better fathers out of all of us diversity dads.  “I am involved in their social media that my kids are on, the Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat. I see those as the tools for me to keep a constant connection. It was a blended parenting watching because I wasn’t there every day, I’m not there to hear the small conversations but to really monitor what my children are posting, what are their thoughts, what are they responding to that may be an influence up there and try to understand that but to also pick up the habits of using these tools. I snapchat the goofy faces to my kids just to kind of keep that connection with them. It is constant communication.” From using social media to shorten the distance from our children to the importance of keeping in touch and keeping constant contact when we dads are far away, Charles will share some of his struggles and lessons learned from living far away from his children.  “For me is when I hear them overcome the objectives they have, I look at my youngest and right now the focus for her has been school. We will talk about her classes and she will talk about how hard her classes are but she will say “you know dad, I got flash cards” or “I put this app on my phone to overcome Spanish” or “Science is really difficult, but I am looking at some youtube videos to help me understand things”. I think that is the proudest moment because I feel like that is what we are here to do, we teach our kids how to deal with life as it comes. For her to have that smartness to say “I am going to go look at other resources” that is my chemistry, so I feel like that is my child right there.” We have had other divorced dads on our show and the message is still the same, a message that is still very powerful to any dad out there, make sure that the environment when things get bad don’t impact the kids in a negative way. Charles Jackson will reinforce that message from his very own perspective. “It was very challenging, divorces can be complicated. One of the things that we didn’t want to do was make sure that the kids were mixed into those complications. Being able to get up there and see them on a regular basis and going through some of the things at the time, financially it wasn’t permissible at times. A trip up there, gas, hotel, doing things with the kids because I wasn’t going go up there and just have them sit in a hotel room with me all day but to do things with them it took money that sometimes I didn’t have. It was difficult. It was difficult at the beginning to try to see my children on a regular basis as much as I wanted to.” We hope that Charles Jackson’s history teaches you as much or even more than it taught us. And inspires us to go to the next level and become better dads, and parents, tomorrow than we were yesterday.   OTHER QUOTES:  “I used to get those questions at the beginning. Probably the first couple of years after the divorce, you know “why am I away”. The situation was that my wife moved away and then it would be the question “why didn’t you follow” or I would get the comment from other men, black, white, other cultures, who would make comments about “I would always be by my children”, I mean, it was a hard pill for me to swallow at the time but I knew the environment that it would create, being as close as I was to my ex at the time and I didn’t want my children to be part of that environment. There was still a lot of negative feelings and negative impulses from the divorce that I didn’t want my children to be victim to. So I felt that the distance was something that was best suited and I would just have to put in a lot of the extra work to try and keep that connection with my kids.” “Probably the biggest one is just not putting work first for a lot of years in my daughters young age and during my first marriage, I put work first a lot because I felt that career an money was the foundation of stabilizing our family and making sure that the roof was over our heads and the lights were on and things of that nature. I took some real hard knocks in life to understand that it was more about me first. I had to learn to really balance that out. To make sure that the kids were taken care of first. I didn’t see that growing up. I didn’t have a family environment where I see God, Family, and Career in the household. So I didn’t know what that looked like. I missed a lot of opportunities with the kids, I was there for some key moments, the first bike ride, letting them go, watch them take those pedals, there is a lot of memories I cherish, but there was a lot of opportunities that I recognise I missed because I stayed in work late, or because I took shifts I didn’t need to take.” “I think you have to create a discipline. For me it was a discipline. I didn’t have the kind of job where I physically brought work home. I didn’t have to log into a computer when I got home and do extra work that way. That was definitely some saving grace, but I carried enough of a responsibility as a store manager to bring it mentally home and think about things that I needed to do tomorrow most of the night. So it was really messing me up. It was messing my whole family dynamics up. My children would have homework, I am helping them but they are not getting my full attention and I am not understanding where I am not being as helpful where I am so the minute the transition happens everything felt more in line. I was better at math and helping them with the math homework, my wife at the time, she was better at the grammar piece. I think when you let work be where it is at, being at home 100%, I mean 100%, can’t be 90%, can’t be 80%. It is very magical and you become a different kind of man, you become a better father at home.”       LINKS: FACEBOOK https://www.facebook.com/charles.m.jacksoniii INSTAGRAM @3cjackson https://www.instagram.com/3cjackson/     “Let’s learn together. Let’s grow together. Let’s be dads together. Peace.”
