Earlier this year a new project emerged from Amsterdam made up of a pair of familiar producers operating beneath a new guise. Darcey Electronics is made up of Darling and Tracey, two stellar musicians in their own right who have each released music in various capacities over many years. Collectively they have released music on the likes of Aus, Safe Trip, Dial, Intergraded, Off Minor and Voyage Direct. They both live and breathe music and operate amidst a collective of inspiring Amsterdam producers who have established their own take on dance and electronic music - channeling influences from house, techno, ambient and IDM. It is the latter two genres which perhaps best informed the pairs first release under the collaborative moniker. Released on Plant Life earlier in 2020 the EP was well received and widely supported, showcasing abstract experimentation and playful melodic flurries which based upon the set below seems to be a hallmark of their taste and style.

Based in Amsterdam Elias Mazian is a well known face. He has released an eclectic series of forward thinking house and electronics and has become a keen member of the Red Light Radio family. We had the pleasure of hosting him on the beach at The Crave festival in The Hague a few weeks back and were wholeheartedly impressed with his eclectic portrayal of wandering hip hop, funk, soul, disco and house. A talented disc jockey and a charming man. This month marked the release of a new EP from Elias on Mitchell Street Records - the imprint based in Glasgow run by Jasper James. It showcased a moody take on deep house and electro and followed on from previous appearances on Voyage Direct. It was a thoughtful reflection on the present state of modern electronics and marked a left of centre approach to the dancefloor - yet with distinctive drive. We asked Elias to record a mix as part of our main series and we are delighted with what's shown up...

New Music Worldwide is a weekly mix series hosted by Thris Tian. This week’s New Music Worldwide comes from Tracey. Tracey is the alias of fast-rising producer Tom Ruijg. Based in Amsterdam, Tracey is an esteemed selector with a celebrated history behind the decks in his native Holland. He has now turned his hand to producing, having releasing tracks on the Tom Trago curated Voyage Direct label. Rightly he won praise for his first 12” as Tracey, Skyfall, which surfaced in early 2017. Combining elements seemingly inspired by vintage Detroit futurism, ‘90s ambient techno and his own love of colourful synth melodies, the EP saw Tracey set out his stall in impressive fashion. His sound is rich, deep, mature and captivating.

Those in the know will be aware that Tom Ruijg is no newcomer to electronic music. However, his new alias Tracey is. Earlier this year marked the release of a new project, an EP surfaced on Tom Trago's Voyage Direct label which was packed with analogue laden house and techno. A distinct contrast to the floor filler esque house most commonly associated with the Amsterdam based producer he has reasserted himself with authority. We caught up with him as he delivers a mix for Ransom Note.

It is a wonder it has taken us this long to get Tom Trago involved in our series. The Dutchman has been a pillar of the Amsterdam scene for years, either as a producer for Rush Hour and a veteran of no fewer than three artist albums, or as a resident at places like the sorely missed Trouw. He also runs his own Voyage Direct label, has worked with everyone form Aardvark to Bok Bok and, of course, played our festival once again this past weekend. Trago’s sound--in both the booth and the studio--is a colourfully eclectic mix of disco and afro, hip hop and jazz, as well as house, techno and electro, and it as charming as the man himself. His two hour session for us is a perfectly soothing selection to get you back into the groove after a full on weekend at the festival. From horizontal ambient and deeply seductive house, the mix stays pretty spaced out and lazy for the first hour, before more driving drums and pumping chords colour the second half. Always warm, human and inviting, it is a suitably personable mix from one of house music’s nice guys.
