Sarah van Rijn (née Perez) is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern. She currently works on a project that analyses similarities and differences in ethical motivation, knowledge production, and activist practice of animal rights activists and persons identifying with the eco-spiritual milieu. She previously worked on early modern pamphlets as well as youth- and online spirituality. The latter topic was also the reason why Sarah and her husband Bastiaan have published on the phenomenon of Reality Shifting. Bastiaan van Rijn is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. His current project focuses on the connections between spiritual tourism and alternative history. Before that, he wrote on the various ways in which Western individuals have tried to scientifically prove life after death since the late eighteenth century. His book, Afterlife Research, appears later this year. Sarah and Bas have both been previous guests on the platform, Sarah in a roundtable discussion with Dr. Cavan McLaughin on her research into Reality Shifting, and Bas in E 43 about Mesmerism and Afterlife Research. During his PhD, he has investigated how practitioners of different movements in the nineteenth century tried to scientifically prove life after death exists. The outcome of this project is the book Afterlife Research (forthcoming), as well as several open-access articles. Beside this, he is also interested in playful approaches to religion and divination in the contemporary West. His newest project centers on spiritual tourism.This interview takes us into the fascinating world of Mesmerism—also known as animal magnetism—and its enduring influence on the boundaries between science, mysticism, and spiritual inquiry. Bastiaan gives a brief bio of Franz Anton Mesmer, who in the late 18th century proposed that an invisible fluid flowed through all living beings, capable of healing and revealing hidden truths. Though controversial and dismissed by many, Mesmer's ideas sparked a lineage of thought that continues to shape contemporary conversations about consciousness, healing, and the legitimacy of scientific inquiry.We discuss how Mesmerism blended science and mysticism, influenced public perception, and laid the groundwork for practices ranging from hypnotism and New Thought to modern-day energetic healing. Bastiaan's own research picks up this thread, tracing how the experimental impulse to make the invisible visible evolved into afterlife studies, somnambulism, and psychical research.From there, we dive into Bastiaan's dissertation, which examines the emergence of a “scientific culture” in afterlife research—one grappling with empirical inaccessibility, unreliable intermediaries, and skeptical resistance. Presentatrice en columniste Roos Moggré is inmiddels een bekende verschijning in de Nederlandse media. Ze presenteert op televisie en radio, schrijft voor de Linda en was onlangs de winnaar van de populaire spelshow Wie is de Mol? Ze groeide op in een landelijke omgeving in een gereformeerd gezin. Interviews schrijven was de droom, maar gaandeweg raakte ze ‘verslaafd' aan het maken van televisie. Ze schreef het boek ‘Altijd blijven scheren', interviews met succesvolle mannen over mentale tegenwind. Zelf kende Roos een periode die ze omschrijft als een ‘mentale breakdown'. In deze periode had ze last van paniekaanvallen en depressieve klachten. Ze had ook ervaringen met onveiligheid op de werkvloer in Hilversum. Als één van de eerste in omroepland sprak ze zich hierover uit. Het in 2024 verschenen rapport van de commissie Van Rijn bleek niet alleen een pijnlijke confrontatie, het gaf ook erkenning: “Ik was dus niet gek.”

Het rapport van onder andere de bestuursvoorzitter van de NPO Frederieke Leeflang en EO directeur Arjan Lock, als antwoord op (en oplossing voor) het rapport van Van Rijn over grensoverschrijdend gedrag. Allereerst wordt er teruggeblikt op The Passion, wat deze editie ook voor de kijker toch echt wel een lijdensweg bleek. Over lijdensweg gesproken: ook Tom Egbers passeert de revue. Zijn die documentaires die hij nu mag maken een doekje voor het bloeden? Angela de Jong: 'Nog erger, Tom Egbers haalt gewoon keihard bakzeil in de rechtbank.' Dan Frederieke Leeflang die en passant bij Nieuwsuur een pittige uitspraak doet over Bert Huisjes. ‘Het is niemand opgevallen maar WNL-baas Bert Huisjes wordt nu ook beschuldigd van seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag en niet door de minste.' Als je naar de verschillende talkshowgesprekken hierover kijkt (Beau versus Pauw), dan hoor je twee totaal verschillende conclusies. Er is nog geen volle week voorbij na het verschijnen van het rapport van de Commissie Van Rijn, maar de ontwikkelingen die elkaar in rap tempo opvolgen, blijven maar komen.  Het vaste panel buigt zich over het statement van RTL en de brief van Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, waarbij hun samenwerking 'on hold' wordt gezet. Matthijs wordt naast verbaal- ook fysiek grensoverschrijdend gedrag verweten. Hij ontkent dat, maar doet geen aangifte, want zo schrijft hij nobel: 'dat is niet in het belang van de melders en het onderzoek.' Het panel concludeert: 'Als Matthijs van Nieuwkerk geen aangifte van smaad of laster doet, dan weet je wel hoe laat het is!' De directeur video van de NPO, Remco van Leen - de opvolger van Frans Klein - is nu ook in opspraak en de NPO stelt een extern onderzoek in. Angela de Jong: 'Van mensen die ik zeer goed ken, krijg ik te horen: "Eindelijk!" Ook wordt er een licht geworpen op de oud-hoofdredacteur van De Wereld Draait Door, Dieuwke Wynia. Er wordt, met de kennis van nu, ingezoomd op haar interview in de Volkskrant van een jaar geleden over DWDD, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk en Frans Klein.  Verder aandacht voor het video-document van Coen Verbraak over het rapport van Van Rijn, waarin Verbraak een aantal presentatoren, leidinggevenden en slachtoffers interviewt.
