Het was de grote droom van Bart Van Loo om te worden zoals zijn leraar Frans. Maar dat draaide uit op een stevige burn-out. Een dieptepunt dat ervoor zorgde dat hij zijn passie voor de Franse cultuur op een andere manier zou bedrijven. Hij groeide uit tot de beste meesterverteller van ons land. Zijn naam valt niet meer los te koppelen van de 'Bourgondiërs' en met zijn nieuwste boek ‘Stoute schoenen' maakt hij die geschiedenis nu ook tastbaar. Maar wie is hij… als hij zwijgt?

Een leerzame maar o zo vermakelijke aflevering met meesterverteller en schrijver van historische boeken: Bart Van Loo. Hij is een man met een missie, want hij wil de schijnwerpers richten op een grotendeels vergeten periode van onze Nederlandse geschiedenis. 'Er is leven vóór Willem van Oranje', zegt hij, en dat leven heet de Bourgondiërs. Volgens Van Loo zijn in die cruciale periode de Nederlanden ontstaan, nota bene in een klooster, als kunstproject. Dáár ligt de oorsprong van wat uiteindelijk ons land, onze cultuur en religieuze beleving zouden worden. Zijn wij ten diepste nou calvinistisch of misschien toch bourgondisch?  Bart Van Loo verkocht van zijn eerste boek over de Bourgondiërs maar liefst 400.000 exemplaren, waarom resoneert dit onderwerp zo? Waarom zijn wij zo op zoek naar onze roots? Nu is zijn tweede boek over de Bourgondiërs uit: Stoute Schoenen. 'Het verhaal van de Bourgondiërs vertellen is als het openen van een schatkist vol meesterwerken', zegt hij.  En die schatkist opent David Boogerd met Bart Van Loo en uiteraard vaste gast, theoloog Stefan Paas, professor aan de VU in Amsterdam en de Theologische Universiteit Utrecht.

Drum History Podcast was created in October of 2018 and has been on a journey to document the history of the drums ever since. Topics range from the very early beginnings of man's involvement with percussion up to modern day innovations that are changing the drum industry.
