This week Anna and Paul are reunited and they kick things off with some story time about where Paul has been, thennn they get into the 1991 Jim Wall's adventure "Blue Force". It's one of those games a lot of us flagged as "one day I'll play that" knowing very well that day will never come, so press play and let them walk you through it instead. Mangia! In 1995, Roberta Williams trades fairy tales for fear with Phantasmagoria, a seven-disc FMV horror epic that looks like a movie and plays like an adventure. We talk about how Sierra built a real film studio, shot actors on bluescreen, and composited them into 1,000+ CG backdrops to create its eerie mansion setting. We also dig into the controversy: graphic gore, mature themes, and a notorious assault scene that led to bans and retailer pushback. While sales soared, critics questioned whether this “interactive movie” had enough interactivity. From there, we explore the sequel, Phantasmagoria: A Puzzle of Flesh, a stranger and edgier chapter with a cult following. Finally, we look at how its DNA carried into horror's future, influencing Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Until Dawn. Dim the lights and join us as we revisit this chilling chapter of gaming history on Memory Card Lane. Find out more at https://a-trip-down-memory-card-lane.pinecast.co
This three-part BONUS episode honors our friend Roberta Vaughan and celebrates the upcoming live debut of Error 47—a tribute band performing all together for the first time this fall. Part One features Jackie, Sarah, Jon Paul, Erik, and Mick, some of the members of the band, as they reflect on Roberta's legacy, how the project came together, and what it's like preparing for a live show as a group of longtime friends, collaborators, and fans. This is the first time they'll share a stage as one lineup. Part Two brings in producer Sean Parker and Error 47 member Troels Pleimert, along with a return from Mick. This half dives deep into the creative and logistical work behind the Kickstarter campaign, the emotion of translating a digital legacy into a live experience, and how the band's shared love of FMV and community drives the whole effort. Part Three closes with a personal segment featuring Roberta's sibling, Ames, who shares their perspective on the concert, the campaign, and the legacy their sister leaves behind. This episode spans memories, music, and momentum, celebrating the past while building something new in Roberta's name. This week on the Classic Gamers Guild Podcast, we step into the afterlife, but not the peaceful kind. Anna, one half of the CGG Podcast, sits down with Rubén López, one half of Aruma Studios, to talk about their upcoming point-and-click adventure Shadows of the Afterland. If their debut Intruder in Antiquonia was about memory and resisting modernity, this one's about being dead before you're even born, and trying to change your destiny. Rubén pulls back the curtain on designing a supernatural murder mystery set in 1960s Madrid, building an afterlife where bureaucracy still reigns, and giving players control of so many unique characters through a tactical possession mechanic. We dig into how Galician folklore seeps into the game's design, what it takes to rebuild an entire custom engine from scratch, and why full voice acting is now part of the plan. From puzzle design philosophy to the realities of running a two-person studio, this conversation is a deep dive into ambitious indie development, ghostly storytelling, and the fine art of making possession both strategic and fun. Plus, hear about the game's brand-new demo update, massive performance boosts, and plans for release on PC and Nintendo Switch. Play our adventure game! The Phantom Fellows is out now! This week, Anna runs a solo mission straight into the fog, Fogtown, that is. She's joined by Sean Parker, the puppet-wrangling, genre-bending mastermind behind Fogtown, the only detective story brave enough to ask: what if a puppet version of Sherlock Holmes had imposter syndrome, a spatula sword, and a head that occasionally falls off? We talk about how the pandemic turned a scrappy puppet TV show idea into a fully modular FMV game with real performances, rotating virtual sets, and actors from Phantasmagoria, Disco Elysium, and Contradiction. Sean spills the tea on a mystery publisher who ghosted harder than a Tinder date, how to keep a puppet's head attached during a fight scene, and why FMV deserves a weirder, brighter comeback. Plus: a tribute to the irreplaceable Roberta Vaughan, who championed lovely indie projects like Fogtown long before the rest of us caught on. Wishlist A Rum Case In Fogtown! Play our adventure game! Send us a textThe astral realm is a world in flux—where spirits take form, emotions sculpt the landscape, and unseen entities move through the shifting tides of thought and energy. In this episode, we explore the beings that inhabit this plane, from nature spirits (fairies) and elementals to the eerie presence of shades—echoes of the dead that can take on a life of their own, sometimes possessed by other spirits and entities. We also discuss magical adepts, spiritual practitioners- both white and black- who allegedly have power over life and death itself, manipulating their cycle of reincarnation, be it through intense spiritual training or vampirism. In doing so they are able to travel through and remaining on the astral plane for as long as they see fit, projecting their apparitions into the material world. Through a mix of esoteric insights and firsthand listener stories, encounters with paranormal, supernatural beings, we uncover the hidden mechanisms behind these phenomena and consider what they may reveal about the nature of the astral plane itself and how its forces interact with us. Join me as we navigate the unseen forces shaping this mysterious dimension, where perception is power, and reality is never quite what it seems.#theosophy #occult #spiritualSupport the showAll episodes are available in video format on YouTube Send your personal experiences (spiritual, paranormal), questions, comments, or business inquiries to: hiddenpassagepodcast@gmail.comYou can also send a voice message through SpeakPipeFollow on Instagram & TwitterPlease consider rating/ leaving a review. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. In this episode recorded live on November 12 at the American Society of Cinematographers Clubhouse in Los Angeles, Michael Ruscio, ACE, speaks with three of the creators behind director Jacques Audiard's Emilia Pérez: composers/songwriters Clément Ducol and Camille and editor Juliette Welfling. Netflix's spectacular Spanish-language musical drama, which centers on a Mexican drug kingpin who transitions to live as a woman, is a genre-bending “phantasmagoria,” as Camille puts it. Welfling, a longtime Audiard collaborator, “learned that he was even more crazy than I thought,” she says. “Please, Jacques, stay crazy!”
