200 episodes, 4 years of bizarre history, lots of fun and tons of laughs. AMERICAN LOSER is ending (IN IT'S CURRENT FORM) and as we grow the idea to all of it's potential, we are going to be walking away from the weekly format while we fry some bigger fish in some bigger ponds. We love the listeners, the Kahuna, Criss Madd, Ming and Mike Zapcic and all the amazing guests that have been kind enough to come on the show over the years. WE ARE NOT DONE YET...more things to come.
We are tackling Part Two of the Queer As Folk series finale in this episode. Ted gets his birthday wish. Emmett finds love on the slopes. Hunter gets a new name. Beautiful things are happening here!! Bittersweet things are happening too. As the gang moves forward, Ken and E'Shel start unpacking the last few scenes. A Part 3 is definitely possible. WE ARE NOT DONE YET!!!! How have you maintained communication and support with those in your life that have transitioned to the “other side”? There is no one way or “right way”, the only thing that matters is that you lean into what makes you feel most connected. In this episode, I am joined by the inspiring Joe McQuillin for a second time. Joe's life was forever changed on a January morning in 2016, when he received a call that his son, Christopher, along with three of his friends, was missing and soon after his body was recovered. Losing Christopher began Joe's journey through grief, awakening, discovery and acceptance as he began to connect to Christopher on “the other side” through mediums, research and, eventually, direct communication. Joe McQuillin's first book, My Search for Christopher on the Other Side, and his new book, We Are Not Done Yet, Pops, are incredible tools for anyone going through grief. Tune in to hear from Joe as he reflects on losing his son Christopher, the different ways he has found connection and communication with Christopher on “the other side”, what led him to writing his newest book We Are Not Done Yet, Pops, the recent shootings in the US, and so much more. If you want to learn more about Joe's background and his book, My Search for Christopher on the Other Side, check out Episode 11 for his first interview. Actor Jeffrey Wright discusses the documentary he produced for HBO, We Are Not Done Yet, which profiles a group of veterans and service members as they come together to collaborate on a series of poems. The former and current service members are part of a United Services Organizations’ writing workshop at Walter Reed National Military Center; and, all of them struggle to cope with PTSD. The workshop creates a safe place for them to grapple with their experiences through poetry. In fact, they decide not just to write a poem collectively but to present a publicly staged reading of it. That’s where actor Jeffrey Wright came in—he had worked with veterans in the past and was looking for an opportunity to involve himself again. He came to Walter Reed to direct the staged reading of the poem. And that experience became the HBO documentary We Are Not Done Yet. Listen to this conversation with Jeffrey Wright about his work with these veterans, his continuing relationships with them, and his commitment to making sure their stories are heard.
