Play Episode Listen Later Dec 8, 2025 36:10

ICYMI… this week we launched our new, FREE, 4-week Zoom webinar: the FUELED Comp Season Series. Each Thursday this month at noon MT, I'm covering a key topic your gymnast needs to navigate competition season successfully. First up: injuries, immune health, endurance/performance issues, and REDs during comp season. In this episode, we're diving into the overlooked connection between why so many gymnasts struggle with injuries, illness, and performance decline right when it matters most and REDs (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport). This episode is especially for parents who:Have a gymnast training 20–30 hours a week, ideally Level 5/6 through Level 10 and elite (male and female gymnasts welcome).Have a gymnast with big goals and big dreams—whether that's D1 college gymnastics or elite—and know they need to stay healthy, strong, and progressing over the next several years.Have watched their gymnast deal with injuries during comp season, repeated illness, or frustrating endurance/strength/power issues that don't match their work ethic.Want to prevent the performance-limiting issues that silently build in the background and eventually derail progress.Competitive season is a high-stress window for gymnasts—physically, mentally, and physiologically. When fueling isn't adequate for the training load, this is often when REDs symptoms show up loud and clear:Never-ending fatigueDecreased strength or enduranceChronic or overuse injuriesPoor recoveryBack-to-back illnessesInconsistent performanceParents often assume these problems are “just part of season,” but they're not. They're warning signs. If you want this to be the year your gymnast stops falling apart mid-season, stops getting injured or sick right before big meets, and finally performs to their true ability, this episode will show you what needs to change now. Before comp season stress catches up. Links & Resources   Episode 150: When denial gets in the way of nutrition for gymnasts [Replay]Episode 04: Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport and GymnasticsThe Balanced Gymnast® Program for level 5-10 female gymnasts Connect with Christina on Instagram @the.gymnast.nutritionist or christinaandersonrdn.com

In this ICYMI episode, Corey revisits his most recent conversation with Dr. Alexander Vindman — retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel, former Director for European Affairs on the National Security Council, and author of The Folly of Realism: How the West Deceived Itself About Russia and Betrayed Ukraine. From the thousand-year struggle for Ukrainian sovereignty to why U.S. administrations repeatedly misread Russia, Vindman explains how we arrived at this moment — and what a values-based foreign policy (“neo-idealism”) could mean for America's future. He also opens up about family history, his brother Eugene's first term in Congress, and what gives him both concern and hope in a destabilized world.

In this In Case You Missed It episode of I Hear Design from interiors+sources, we revisit the article “Transforming Built Environments Through Trauma-Informed Design,” written by Carrie Meadows and originally published on August 12, 2025, on the interiors+sources website. Drawing on guidance from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the work of the Trauma-Informed Design Society, the episode explains what trauma is, why it shows up in every building type—not just healthcare—and how the built environment can either mitigate or magnify its effects. Listeners will learn how trauma-informed design connects to environmental psychology, human-centered design, and biophilic principles; why current codes and professional standards don't yet address emotional safety; and how designers can bridge that gap in everyday practice. The episode also touches on strategies for talking about trauma with clients, overcoming stakeholder skepticism, and understanding the broader social impact of stress-reducing environments—from academic performance to community violence and incarceration rates.

ICYMI: How to Have Faith in the Midst of Dysfunction with Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones

Happy Thanksgiving! While our team is off for the holiday, we want to take this opportunity to revisit our conversation with Commissioner Lesley Briones from Harris County, TX. Host Ryan Coonerty and Briones explain her role representing the third-largest county in the country with a population larger than 26 U.S. states and 34 cities. They discuss her journey as a Harvard and Yale Law School graduate who became a public school teacher and then a judge, and how her parents instilled in her the belief that she should always help others. Briones talks about navigating the chaos of the Trump administration—including Governor Abbott's redistricting plan —how faith continues to ground her work, and how growing up as a daughter of teachers and a proud Latina on the Texas–Mexico border has made her resilient. Tune in to learn why Commissioner Briones believes Texas can become a swing state (spoiler: it's closer than you might think). IN THIS EPISODE: • [01:03] Commissioner Briones' background and entry into public service. • [02:16] The role of a County Commissioner and what that means in Harris. • [04:07] Federal challenges that Harris County faces under the Trump administration. • [10:30] Attempts to work collaboratively in the face of troubling bills. • [13:13] Staying hopeful and engaged for the generation to come. • [17:06] Sentiment towards the current administration in Harris County. • [18:51] How Commissioner Briones' background informs her work in local government. • [22:55] Her path to public service in 2019 and how it differs from working as a judge. • [30:15] Embracing faith and inclusivity as a Democratic leader.

On today's episode host Kate Lindsay is joined by porn historian Noelle Perdue, author of the Porn World newsletter. OpenAI announced that they'd allow adult users to have erotic conversations with ChatGPT, just one more way AI and porn are becoming intertwined. As sex becomes more online, not only does it become more solitary, but also more surveilled. Both of these things are intended to divide us, but Noelle is confident that AI's attempted sex-takeover will fail.  This podcast is produced by Vic Whitley-Berry, Daisy Rosario, and Kate Lindsay.
