Poth High School track and field athletes achieved impressive scores — all in the top 10 in their events — during the UIL State Track and Field Meet in Austin May 1. Aiden Reed State Champion Poth senior Aiden Reed threw 59'7.75” in the shot put to take the gold medal in boys 3A, and broke his own school record from last year at State. He also placed fourth in discus in the State meet with a throw of 168'7”. Aiden will be attending Stephen F. The book focuses in particular on the timber industry of the Manistique, MI region. CROWE, a 17-year-old boy, stepped off the deck of the steamer City of Ludington and found, as he later wrote, "a strange new world such as I had never seen nor dreamed of." It was exactly midnight on May 29th, 1894 when he landed in the port Manistique, MI at the head of Lake Michigan. Before this trip, which started in Pennsylvania, he had never seen a ship, a large body of water, a sawmill, or even a big tree. He knew no one else in this small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. William Scott Crowe, the oldest of six children was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on September 23rd, 1875. His parents Mary Amelia ("Millie") White and Oliver Cameron Crowe were married in 1874 in New Castle. From the first position as time boy and office assistant, Will Crowe was soon promoted to head bookkeeper. In 1912, Crowe and Lou Yalomstein bought out the business and holdings of the Chicago Lumbering Company.

Today, the next director and head coach of the Northern Arizona University Cross Country program, Coach Jarred Cornfield, returns to the podcast. With legendary Coach Mike Smith stepping down, Coach Cornfield takes over one of the most storied programs in the country. This was announced this past fall. It's an exciting time for Jarred and the program, but he wasn't just handed this job; he earned it with years of hard work. Coach Cornfield has spent nine years with NAU, six of which were as the Assistant Coach—after starting as a Graduate Assistant in 2015. Coach Cornfield is a distance and mid-distance specialist and a terrific recruiter. The Lumberjacks have won an impressive six men's national championships since 2016. On a personal level, Coach Cornfield attended Liberty University where he earned a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and then his Master's degree in Educational Leadership. He also competed as a member of the cross country and track teams. As a college runner, Jared has PRs of 1:54.47 in the 800m, 3:55.45 in the 1500m, 4:15.33 in the Mile, 29:42 in the 5K in XC, and 32:03 in the 10K in XC. While working closely with coaching legend Coach Mike Smith, Coach Cornfield has also branched out on his own, having coached Olympic athletes like Elise Cranny this past summer in Paris for the 5,000m. The NAU program is in the best of hands, and we're excited for you to hear this discussion with one of the up-and-coming coaching stars in the NCAA. The LORD proclaims that mighty Assyria is the rod of anger in His hands. However, while the LORD does His work of bringing wrath against His own people through Assyria, Assyria becomes proud, as if they are the rulers of the world. Send us a textHello, passionate cruisers! This is Paul and this week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I present to you something quite different than what you are used to hearing from me. It's a cruise news story—an absolutely amazing one. First, let me welcome to the show Cailyn. Joshua is an entrepreneur in Tulsa, Oklahoma who is a central figure in said cruise news story, and as a busy entrepreneur was not able to join us. I don't normally cover cruise news. I leave that up to others who are renown and much better than I am about covering that sort of thing. However, Cailyn and her family's story transcends cruise news. It was covered extensively worldwide by mainstream media. Besides, one topic I do like to bring to the cruising community are human interest stories—and the Gault's story is a human-interest tale on steroids. Let me summarize before I bring on Cailyn to give us the real deal: In July 2024, Cailyn and her family of 9 embarked on Norwegian Encore for a family reunion cruise to Alaska. In total, 16 relatives were on the trip at a total cost of $30,000. Joshua and his immediate family, wife Cailyn, six children, and his 78-year-old mother-in-law, Sharron, went on an excursion which I'm sure many of you who have cruised to Alaska recall fondly—a Lumberjack show in Ketchikan. Cailyn and family did the right thing in that they chose an excursion offered by the cruise line. (I always recommend on various Facebook cruise groups that's it's best to choose an excursion offered by the cruise line versus an independent excursion because cruise line excursions come with a promise to never leave the port without you…) Upon the end of the Lumberjack show, Cailyn and family went to board the shuttle bus back to the port but it was full and they were told to wait for the next one—which never came.
