Mourners taking selfies with the late Pope Francis' body in his open casket at St. Peter's Basilica have sparked outrage. The Vatican has urged visitors to refrain from using their phones and to show respect during this solemn time. Despite these requests, many have continued to take photos, leading to widespread criticism for what is seen as distasteful behavior. As well as her memories of being cast in the show, Jan recalls its creator and producer Gerry Glaister, and the learning curve she and her fellow cast members went on as they found out about the historical reality behind the series. Having recently watched the series again on Talking Pictures, Jan also reflects on whether Secret Army still stands up today. LOOK OUT! It's only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the host of Turner Classic Movies and all round movie head BEN MANKIEWICZ! TCM is a channel that some non-US folk might not be familiar with, but for those who are it's an institution. Ben is a long term host at the channel, but has a huge amount of dealings elsewhere in the cinematic universe too. If that hasn't hooked you in, you might be keen to learn he is the grandson of the screenwriter of Citizen Kane who was the subject of the fairly recent movie 'Mank'. So you're in safe hands right here, essentially. Ben has a ton to say about a lot of movies that haven't been explored that much on the podcast, but it's also really interesting to hear about TCM and how it's affected his own life. A really fascinating guest for a truly engaging episode - enjoy! "... Must admit he was very funny. I laughed. I laughed a great deal. Thought I was going to cry. I did." A Visit to Swansea was the fourth episode of the second series of Hancock's Half Hour and was originally broadcast on 10th May 1955, two days before Tony Hancock's 31st birthday. It was long considered one of the missing Hancocks until it was discovered last year by Richard Harrison of the Radio Circle and came from the same collection of recordings as The Marriage Bureau – the only episode of HHH to feature Peter Sellers and one we covered on Goon Pod previously with the guys from the Very Nearly An Armful podcast. It's intriguing as this is another formerly missing show to feature a Goon – in this case Harry Secombe in a cameo, and it followed on from the three previous episodes of HHH in which Secombe stood in for Hancock who had undergone some sort of breakdown and gone off to Italy. Naturally it warranted an evaluation on Goon Pod and who better to talk all things Hancock than friend of the show Scott Phipps, host of such shows as Reel Britannia and the Talking Pictures podcast.

In 2024, the beloved cable channel Turner Classic Movies will turn 30, and for host Ben Mankiewicz—who recently celebrated his 20th anniversary at the helm—he still feels “so unbelievably fortunate to be associated with the channel.” It's one of those rare networks where “it's a little bit part of your identity” and “the only channel where the channel itself matters to people,” he told Newsweek's H. Alan Scott. Part of the network's charm is that it taps into nostalgia. “Nostalgia is a really powerful and important emotion. It is the emotion that connects us to our past. And our past can mean so much—family, friends, school, where you were at a time of your innocence.” In addition to the films, TCM offers a festival, the new podcast Talking Pictures, even a themed cruise. But for Mankiewicz, recommending just three films for newer fans of classic cinema is difficult. “I'll just give them three off the top of my head, I'd tell them to watch Casablanca, Paths of Glory and Three Days of the Condor.” But he's quick to add that those movies could change depending “on the day and the mood.”Visit Newsweek.com to learn more about the podcasts we offer and to catch up on the latest news.
