According to Jesus, one of the ways we should love God is with our minds. This is why we offer Christian Ed classes throughout the year. From preschool on up, these classes are cover a wide range of biblical texts, theological concepts, and current issues from a biblical perspective.
The goal of the 2022-23 Sundays@9 adult education class is individual transformation -- to provide a venue where Creeksiders can join in an exploration of the classic Christian spiritual disciplines, such as prayer, fasting, meditation, Bible study, etc. This week, we begin by considering how we mature in our faith -- what role does the Holy Spirit play? What role do we play? What is the value of spiritual disciplines? Next up, we explore the first of our spiritual disciplines for the year -- Meditation. What can we learn about meditation from Scripture? What practical suggestions can help us to begin engaging in Christian meditation, or to grow in the exercise of that discipline?

This week we complete our CASKET-EMPTY series with Yet to Come, looking at the book of Revelation and the encouragement it is meant to provide the Church.
This week, we conclude the "Teaching" section of the EMPTY timeline by looking at the teaching of 5 more "Catholic Epistles" -- general letters written to the Church universal (that's what catholic means in Greek). We will also look at the historical context -- the Roman emperors who reigned in the 60's and 70's AD when these letters were written and then when the Second Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed.
CASKET-EMPTY continues with T-Teaching. Our third week in Teaching focuses on Paul's pastoral letters and Peter's letters to the dispersed church. These were all written toward the end of both their lives. 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, 1 & 2 Peter.
This week, we continue the "Teaching" section of the EMPTY timeline by looking at the teaching of the six epistles Paul wrote during his three missionary journeys and the four epistles he wrote while imprisoned by the Roman Empire.
This week, we move into the "Teaching" section of the EMPTY timeline, which focuses on 21 letters (epistles) written by apostles to the early church, instructing believers on matters of doctrine and how to live as followers of the Risen and Exalted Jesus. In today's video, we examine seven crucial New Testament beliefs that are found throughout the epistles, then review basic information about the epistles (author, audience, summary of key message, chronological order), and then conclude with the book of James.
We continue in EMPTY with P for Pentecost. We'll look at how the gospel continues to spread to the ends of the earth through the apostle Paul in the book of Acts. Paul continues to preach the gospel of the resurrection of Jesus as the fulfillment of the OT promises to both Jew and gentile who trust in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The Holy Spirit continues to use the persecution of the apostle Paul to open a window for him to preach the gospel all the way to Rome.
This week, we see how the Risen and Exalted Jesus works through Paul and others to extend His kingdom to the ends of the earth, fulfilling His words in Acts 1:8. The Gospel moves north from Jerusalem to Antioch, where believers are first called Christians. From Antioch, the Holy Spirit sends Paul and Barnabas, then Paul and Silas out on missionary journeys.
This class, part of the Casket EMPTY series, covers Acts 1-12 and is part 1 of the "P" for Pentecost in the acronym EMPTY. We discuss the life of the early church as the gospel spreads through the coming of the Holy Spirit.
