We need not have blind faith in a Personal beginning; instead, we appeal to the evidence to suggest that a Personal beginning is the most reasonable answer. The infinite, personal, triune God is there, and He is NOT silent! And that is reasonable, right? While AI narration has certainly come far, it still falls into “impersonal impersonations” that can't yet rival the nuanced emotional connection offered by human narration. The industry will undoubtedly find more ways to bridge this gap as technology evolves. However, humans still hold the narrative reins regarding depth, emotion, and the ability to connect genuinely.  

For some reason when we think of the Holy Spirit we tend to think of Him as an emanation from God, some sort of impersonal power He uses to make things happen. But this thinking is wrong. He is not a power. He is not even a power with a personality. He is a Person whose presence is powerful. There is a great difference between an Impersonal force (such as gravity, electricity, magnetism, light, heat, wind or plant life) and a spirit. A spirit is the non-physical part of a person, and a person is the existence of a distinct personality which is made up of consciousness, will, emotion, reason, attitude toward God, recognition, unique potential and expression. So it is impossible for there to be such a thing as an impersonal spirit. A spirit is a person, or it is not a spirit at all. The Holy Spirit is one of the three Persons who make up our God: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These Three minister in complete harmony and unity. The Father has made us and chosen to save us. The Son has come to save us and intercedes constantly for us, and the Holy Spirit abides with and in us, making possible every change in attitude and every obedient action we do (Phil. 2:13). In the intricate tapestry of human consciousness, lies the tangled web of cognitive distortions that often lead us astray in our perceptions and interactions with the world. The propensity to personalize events, to take things personally, is a common thread woven into the fabric of our minds, influencing how we interpret and react to the external stimuli that come our way. This phenomenon, rooted in distorted thought patterns, can have profound implications for our relationships, our sense of self, and our overall well-being.

Today, we're looking at something that sounds a bit odd, but it's really the bliss of human existence, which is impersonal purpose.Last week we looked at why this is the only conversation to be in, and it's because it is the end of the powerful mind using all its resources in the attempt to secure the unsecurable - our mental construct of a separate identity. But what happens next, when the whole motivation to secure myself in separation is on its way out? How do we find our purpose from the place of the superpowered mind? As Buddha had a message for the East, so too did Swami Vivekananda have a message for the West, if not for the whole world. What was that message? While it is of course a very multifaceted, variegated and nuanced message, three core principles stand out; we explore them in the course of this lecture, as part of our Vivekananda Jayanti celebrations earlier this month. These principles are:1. Religion is a matter of Direct Experience, not dogma. Inspired by his teacher Ramakrishna who daily experienced God for himself in all of Her aspects, the central thrust of Swami Vivekananda's teaching is that spirituality is a matter of verification. Placing an emphasis on yoga (the means for acquiring experience) and on an individual's own perception of God here and now, Swami Vivekananda transforms religion which was even then at his time becoming an antiquated, useless bundle of beliefs from a hoary past into a living, viable method that is strikingly in keeping with the most modern notions of the scientific inquiry, rationalism and verificationism. 2. You are innately divine. Inspired by Ramakrishna who felt that "the wretch who considers himself a sinner verily becomes one; as you think so you become", Swami Vivekananda took the Christian West to task for its fixation on original sin. Most religions begin with a disempowering view of the human condition, i.e "you are broken in need of fixing, lacking in need of growing, sick in need of healing" etc. But the vision of Non-Dual Hinduism is: "you are already free, you are already pure, you are infinitely strong as you are for your very nature is divine!" This is the truth and Americans at once recognized it as it was spoken, thus breaking their centuries long dream of being weak. Anyway, it is only the person who has this latter attitude who will have the self-confidence to really progress with their spiritual practices!3. All existence is One. Swami Vivekananda stressed above all Non-Duality. But his was a far more radical and inclusive non-duality than Shankara's Advaita Vedanta or Ramanuja's Qualified non-duality. His view, in my opinion, comes closer to the Shaiva Non-Dual view of masters like Abhinava Gupta: everything is God. Matter is non-dual, thought is non-dual, spirit is non-dual, all are just various reading of the one indivisible Consciousness-Bliss-Absolute that is both Formless and with Form, that is both Impersonal and Personal. And that One Existence is your very own Self! It is from this non-duality that we derive the 2nd principle sketched out above and also the notion of "harmony of all religions," which is the idea he is perhaps most famous for but which, as you can see, is just the natural consequence of the must more fundamental and far deeper principle of absolute, uncompromising non-duality! When people hear the word "impersonal," they often think "indifferent," "unconcerned."  As we use the word, it means "not personal" -- not taking things personally, not getting lost in our own personal thinking, not focused on ourselves, not caught up in our insecure, ego-thinking.  That means not wondering how we're doing, what people think of us, whether we look good enough, how to prove ourselves.  That means not judging ourselves, not comparing ourselves to others, not feeling bad about ourselves.  When we stop taking life personally, we are fully engaged in life, in touch with other people, and able to be responsive to the moment, rather than reactive.Support the show

Today, the American temperament is Impatient, irrational, irreverent, insolent, inconsiderate, ignorant and inconsistent. We are at a crossroads in America. God mandates us to deal with all people using His problem-solving devices of personal love for God and impersonal love for all mankind. “Let us love one another for love is from God and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God” (1 John 4:7). We are to use a relaxed mental attitude with all people and re-present Christ. “Do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with any partiality” (James 2:1-4). Impersonal love is loving others based on your character, not theirs. When you are treated unfairly by others you must have the spiritual strength to put it in the Lord's hands using virtue love. Impersonal love accepts and tolerates people as they are, not as you want them to be. God didn't send us to straighten people out. Motivational virtue comes from your love for God. Functional virtue is using impersonal love for others. God's given us His policies, problem-solving devices, instructions, principles, and doctrines all in written form in the Scripture so we should have no doubt about what to do. “I am looking for people that know Me and understand Me” (Jeremiah 9:24).
