Thank you for listening to this episode, “The One with LECTIO...” EVERY THURSDAY WE WILL PRAY...just simply pray. This week on this podcast, we have looked at questions and God’s truthful answers, we have looked at the beauty of friendships, including the one we have been fortunate to have with Jesus...we have also looked at the truth in the midst of unfaithful events. Today, we are praying for peace. If you are joining this podcast for the first time, the Lectio Divina prayer has four parts with one scripture: READ, REFLECT, RELATE (OR RESPOND) AND THE FINAL PART, REST - WE ALL LOVE REST...REST ON OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.Here is today’s Lectio...read, is where you just hear it. The second part, Reflect, ask yourself what you think this passage means. The third part, Relate, how does this passage relate to you right now and let God know your thoughts...and the final part, Rest, rest on hearing it again and pay attention to what’s on your mind...then talk to God.Let’s pray...Lord, help us be more like Jesus, today. Thank you for continuing to bless all of the listeners and thank you for this opportunity to pray together. Please continue to talk to us, help us hear what we don’t normally hear and see what we don’t normally see. Please bring peace to the world. We love you, Lord. Here is the first part of Lectio...Matthew Chapter 5 verses 9-12The first time it will be read to hear the words....The second time, Reflect, ask yourself what you think this passage means. The third part, Relate, how does this passage relate to you right now and let God know your thoughts…And the final part, Rest, rest on these words from Matthew and talk to God...he’s listeningBlessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.10Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,*for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me.12* Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. THIS IS THE LECTIO DIVINA PRAYER. A GREAT WAY TO READ, REFLECT, RELATE AND REST ON GOD’S WORDS AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO NOT ONLY HEAR FROM HIM...BUT SPEAK WITH HIM. AMEN.Every Thursday we will pray like this today. You can count on it. Tomorrow’s podcast we will have a special guest, Jessica Blake, a wife, a mom, an author and a singer/songwriter who will share with us her new single...it’s one you will want to hear over and over again. May today’s devotion to the Lectio Divina prayer help your day be amazing. May it help bring peace to the world. Thank you for being you, keep fighting the good fight and remember how much you are loved by God. You are a blessing...see you tomorrow.
Today’s episode, “The One with the Truth,” is a devotion to the discussion Jesus had with the Pharisees as told by John. It’s time to get real...hold nothing back and continue with the truth. I have to be honest...as I made notes for this podcast...I’m kinda’ fired up...for a lot of reasons. What gets me in knots, what blows my mind, what irks me… are the doubters and haters. I just don’t get it. What has me all fired up is a small part of the world right now, because it is so hypocritical and hateful. And I don’t want that kind of world for anyone. I especially don’t want that for the young ones in our world whose brains are still developing, and while their brains and hearts are taking in everything, how is it being understood when they’re not yet equipped with everything they need to understand? Lots of what is happening right now isn’t truthful. It’s just not. And if the young ones think this is right...then this hate will continue for decades as they mature. It’s scary. Shooting straight...it’s scary. There are people and groups in the world right now that intimidate, threaten, lie, riot and try to tear people and other groups down...with the sole purpose of destroying human beings. I don’t get that...at all. When did that become okay to intentionally hurt someone? When did it become humane to provide funding for groups to destroy people and property? It makes no sense. Respect ALL life. That means every single person. When did the world lose consequences? Morals? Beliefs? Let’s get to the truth...Jesus. Jesus is the truth. Here’s some more truth for those who - with their ignorance - despise Christians. Christians are not better than anyone else. Truth. It’s a copout when someone says Christians are better than others... and uses that as an argument against Christianity. It’s such a farce for anyone to say that because the truth, the truth is Christians are more humble than anyone else and humility (modest, lack of pride, lack of vanity) is quite possibly the greatest quality any human being can have. Why are Christians more humble than anyone else? Because Christians realize their inability to do things on their own and need help to get things done…for the grace and the glory of God. Christians realize the gifts we - all humans - have been given. Christians realize we weren’t created to know it all...to be it all...to desire it all....there is only one most high...only one omnipotent...only one...just one, one who has unlimited power and who is able to do anything. Nobody else but God is all-powerful. And true Christians realize that. Look at those who bash Christianity or anyone group...they are those who create their own rules and justifications. I believe deep down they know - just won’t admit - that there is only one almighty. The same ones - when faced with death - crave Jesus then. Do it now. Crave Jesus now and stop the hate. Yet our world is filled with false-Gods. Evil appears to be winning right now and we’re in a brutal battle. I’m fired up...I want everyone - EVERY HUMAN BEING - to speak the truth they hear in their souls...let’s go. The truth will set you free! There is absolutely no proof that God did not create what we have today. There is no reason to believe anything other than God created our world. God created you, and me and us. We were created by God. The world was created by God. God is the truth. And when you believe...as Jesus said, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples. The truth will set you free.” Jesus says he will not be left alone because he always does what is pleasing to Him. To God. You know how good you feel when you do good...that’s exactly what Jesus is talking about. Do good.
Summer is a time that has more daylight, more activities and it’s a time to spend with others...today’s episode is devoted to, “The One with Friends,” and the Gospel of John, Chapter 15. Let’s pray…Lord, help us be more like Jesus today. Almighty and heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of life. Thank you for the friendships in our lives. Your plan, to create us at this time in history, to bond us with one another in friendship is truly so awesome. Lord, we ask that you please continue to bless the listeners of this podcasts, their families and their friends. Please continue to give strength to those who are not well and to their caregivers. May this be a day when we reach out to our friends and let them know how grateful we are...and above all, Lord, how grateful we are for you. We love you. Amen.Who are your closest friends? Who comes to mind right away? Maybe it’s a life-long friend? Maybe it’s a friendship formed from a common situation...or a support group...or from Church. I am amazingly blessed for amazing friends. I was raised in a neighborhood where we all did things together. That was at a time when we walked or rode our bikes to school together, we looked out for each other, other parents looked out for us and were allowed to discipline us if needed. It was a time when if we weren't outside playing with friends, it was a punishment to be inside the house, and everyone knew. Kind of like how it used to be with the Eucharist, if you weren’t in full grace for communion, you would sit in the pew and not go up to receive while people walked by to get a taste of Heaven. The friends, we would play until we knew it was time for dinner...then we would head home and have an actual sit-down dinner with family, and then we would go outside to play again until almost dark but knowing that we had to be home - it was non-negotiable - by sunset. As life happens and people go their certain ways, cherish careers, fall in love with families, have hobbies… friendships naturally take a back-seat but not too far from riding shotgun. Now that many of my friends are entering our 6th decades...we still find ways to be in touch, to be supportive...in fact, my baseball buddies of 40+ years still text one another almost daily...sometimes to create a laugh...sometimes to offer support...technology has allowed each of us to be in different states...yet just a message away. A friend...someone who is loyal, trusting, caring, loving, fun, funny, dependable, honest, sincere, real, faithful, unconditional… John Chapter 15:What a friend we have in Jesus. As it says in the Gospel, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Our world is craving more Jesus...more friends. It’s a world of agony and anger, hate and hypocrisy, a world void of love. It doesn’t have to be that way. Love never fails...ever.Today, thank God for your friends. If a friend of yours is on your mind right now...please share this podcast with them. Reach out to some who you haven’t reached out to in awhile… You know how everyone always says at a funeral, or a reunion or a wedding, “Why does it take an occurrence like this to see each other?” Don’t wait. Reach out today. Love never fails. And if your friends don’t respond right away...that’s okay, too. You did what you can control. If your gut is telling you right now to reach out to someone...do it. Don’t wither, but do it... be full of joy. I’m thankful for you. I’m thankful for my friends.Friends. The Golden Rule. Love. It never fails…
I spent some time on Father’s Day sitting at the graves of my grandparents….Grandpa Coolidge would’ve been 110 years old tomorrow. I just sat there, prayed the Our Father and paid attention to my thoughts. Several thunderstorms were building above the mountains, the temperature kept dropping and rising like a yo-yo, but the rain and lightning stayed away, and I focused hard on what I was thinking, perhaps what God was saying and perhaps what my loved ones were saying. What kept coming up in my mind were questions and they all started with, “Why?” When I really started paying attention to what I was thinking...I couldn’t help but laugh sometimes at the randomness of my thoughts and sometimes I felt like I could cry or throw a stick out of anger. It hit me that we all want to know “why” at some level. Why do bad things happen? Why is the world the way it is right now? Why is there hate? Why is there love when it can hurt, too? Why do people die? Why do we live? Why is that squirrel so spastic? Squirrel. Why do some trees provide shade and why do some provide no shade at all? Why do some people get sick? Why do some people not love? Why do some people lie? Why are some people shy? Why don’t some believe? Why do loved ones leave? Why can’t we get along? Why is there water? Why is there drought? Why are some hungry and why are some gluttens? Why is there sun and why is there none? Why God, why?Proverbs Chapter 3 1-8CONFIDENCE IN GOD LEADS TO PROSPERITY1 My son, do not forget* my teaching, take to heart my commands;2 For many days, and years of life, and peace, will they bring you.3 Do not let love and fidelity forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.4 Then will you win favor and esteem before God and human beings.5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence do not rely;6 In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the LORD and turn away from evil;8 This will mean health for your flesh and vigor for your bones.So….that’s why. God has answers. The Church...she has answers. Clergy...they have answers. Your gut feelings...the Holy Spirit has answers. Do not be wise in your own eyes, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Trust...trust in the Lord with all your heart. What questions do you have? I’d love to hear from you! I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I know where I can find some. If you go to BYB4GOD.com and then go to the Prayer Requests tab...you will see a special section called, “Why, God?” Submit your question there and I will look for answers to help you. When I have questions, God, the Bible or clergy help me...and I want to help, too. Maybe your question is the same another listener has and what if both were never asked, “Why?” Let’s get answers together. If you like music...you want to be sure to join us this Friday as singer/songwriter Jessica Blake shares a new release on Destination Heaven. It’s a song that you will keep singing in your head and heart. And if you don’t like music...this song will convert you to a music lover. Today...trust in the Lord with everything, EVERYTHING!, you have going on in your life. Don’t let any question go unanswered and tear you up. Let’s fight the good fight. Let’s have each others’ back. God Bless you all! Let’s Go!Click here to listen to , "The Day Dad Died"
As we celebrate Father's Day, Coach Coolidge dedicates this episode to his dad who passed away less than six months ago. Several incredible experiences happened in his final week that validate the beauty of life. May God continue to bless all the dads on this Father's Day, and always.
Thank you for listening to this episode, “The One with Lectio...” It’s been so much fun hearing from you about our Father’s Day episode that will air tomorrow. There’s a lot of love in this world and it all begins with God the Father. We are called to proclaim the Good News, the Gospel, and I’m hearing the Good News from you. I love it! It’s so awesome…Have you noticed or have you seen the pictures of all the baptisms and first communions lately? Now that some Covid restrictions have been lifted...many - after patiently waiting - have been baptized, confirmed and received their first Eucharist. It’s so powerful to see. So today’s Lectio prayer will be about the Baptism of Jesus. It will be read from Mark Chapter 1, verses 9 -11. When I read it each of the times, please keep in mind that through the life-giving baptism with the Holy Spirit, Jesus will create a new people of God. That, in itself, is straight-up powerful. Here is today’s Lectio..."Read," is where you just what is read. The second part, "Reflect," ask yourself what you think this passage means. The third part, "Relate," how does this passage relate to you right now and let God know your thoughts...and the final part, "Rest," rest on hearing it again and pay attention to what’s on your mind...then talk to God.Let’s pray...Lord, help us be more like Jesus, today. Thank you for continuing to bless all of the listeners and thank you for this opportunity to pray together. Please continue to talk to us, help us hear what we don’t normally hear and see what we don’t normally see. We love you, Lord. Here is the first part of Lectio...The Baptism of Jesus. It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”Every Thursday we will pray like this today. You can count on it. As Father Day is near, the baptism of Jesus is powerful. I don’t know what you felt or what was said to you, but I hope it was awesome! This scripture acknowledges Jesus as God’s Son and the object of his pure, real and simply awesome love. This approval of Jesus should assure us of salvation. And that’s why we need to be our best so that we can get to the ultimate destination...Heaven. I wish there were a way I could thank you for going on this journey together. I appreciate you sharing this podcast, I appreciate the reviews and please know how both of those help spread the Good News which is the best part of all.Tomorrow’s podcast we will celebrate Dad’s throughout the country. My Dad passed away just after Christmas and I will share some of what happened at the end...because it was incredible and provided such validation that love never fails. It’s an episode that will bring joy even with losses...May today’s devotion to the Lectio Divina prayer help your day be amazing. Thank you for being you, keep fighting the good fight and remember how much you are loved by God. You are a blessing...see you tomorrow.
