There’s something ominously beautiful about the unknown, the gory, and the scary. But sometimes, there’s also beauty in the bad! Join your host Maddy in discussing and making fun of bad movies and learn to enjoy the beauty in the horrifically bad!
There has been many theatrical releases this year, while none of them have particularly blown me away, there's still so much to talk about! In this episode, we talk about what films have been, what films will be and my favorite watches this year. Heres to better films to come :D --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hellyeahhorror/message
This may be my most controversial episode yet. Good!!! Hellraiser is an 80s horror film most known for its depictions of BDSM, but is the BDSM ascribed to the film or the culture? Let's talk about it. Earlier this year, historians and film maniacs alike sat by excitedly awaiting Ari Aster's newest film. It was going to be perfect. It had to be! After two wildly successful horror films, Ari was on track to go 3 for 3. Well, that was April and now we're in July and HYH is just barely discussing the events in the film despite HYH considering herself to be one of Ari's biggest fans! Hell, she has a midsommar poster in her bedroom! What is there to say about Beau is Afraid? Is there anything to it? How do you analyze a film like this? Well, HYH tries and compares this Jewish lord of the rings to other Jewish films. Is Ari's third film the best? (Spoiler: absolutely not). Impressionism is a genre of art that aims to describe and depict things emotionally rather than realistically. However, no notable genre has been made or paved for film. It's argued to not even exist! In this episode, we talk about what impressionism is in films, how it sets itself apart and the film Possum which personifies the term impressionism. What's your favorite impressionist film? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hellyeahhorror/message

I NEVER get political on here, and I've never talked about my religion or personal views but with the world looking like it does today, it's necessary we talk about the poet Moist Richard. He is the moshiach. He is the voice of reason in a sea of troglodytes. I hope you give this episode a chance and will work to redeem your sad sad self in the Name of Moist Richard. When Orphan was initially released in 2009, there was an immense fervor over the possibility that this film would prevent children from being adopted. Clearly, Orphan is PRO-adoption propaganda as it shows us the great pool of orphans there are! Then, in 2022, WBB showed us once more about the beauty of homocidal children and society has changed for the better! Let's compare both Orphan films to each other and analyze their place in the OCC (orphan cinematic universe) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hellyeahhorror/message
brandon cronenberg's third feature length film, “infinity pool,” has been rumored to be depraved and insane. it is, but there's far more to it than just gore and violence, there's also substance! but is it a fun film, and will people treat it as seriously as it needs to be? let's talk about it! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/hellyeahhorror/message
You've heard about it. I know you have. If you have any ins to the horror community, you've heard about this film, so much that I don't even have to name it. Well, I saw it, experienced it and analyzed it and brought food back for the family. So, please listen, enjoy and tell me your thoughts! EDIT: Hi to all of the new listeners! I'm so thankful to have you here! I hope you enjoyed this podcast, please consider checking out my other works or emailing me at hellyeahhorrorpod@gmail.com with your thoughts and ideas. Google any query involving the two terms, “feminist,” and “film.” I place my bets on red, that you will find Mad Max: Fury Road to be included on those lists. But not on mine. With film still being dominated by male voices and narratives, we as women are left eating the table scraps of wealthy men profiting off of our oppression, no more sister! Let's talk Mad Max: Fury Road and how it's really not that radical of a film after all.
what are we even doing here? bro. Idk what to say and this isn't like a ooh she's speechless, it's good. No, the Menu (2022) is a film that left me speechless, it's bad, kind of mood. Directed by Mark Mylod and heavily inspired by Ari Aster's Midsommar, let's talk!
This episode is a doozy, so please assess yourself before listening… Today is the fateful day in which we discuss the ill-use and overuse of misogynistic sexual assault (r*pe) being used in film. Change needs to happen, actresses ought to be quantified in more ways than just their ability to be r*ped on screen as so often this abuse isn't just on screen. If you would like to donate to support survivors of sexual violence please check out Rainn: https://give.rainn.org/a/donate?_ga=2.135996593.1065565551.1669429648-1349008460.1669429648 (I am by no way or means sponsored by Rainn, but I will be donating all ad revenue from this episode to Rainn)
The early 2010s brought us many goodies, seeming impending Mayan doom in 2012, mustache rings, tumblr prevalence and most notably Peachfuzz the wolf. Known for being the best of indie horror, Creep 1 and 2 bring forth interesting dialogue in two different stories in similar ways yet still have the audience in awe of it. How come? Let's investigate on this special episode of Hell Yeah Horror!
Smile is a psychological horror film that was recently released and oh boy, was it a movie! For a film that theme's revolve around mental health and stigma it sure was stigmatizing, and Maddy has opinions! Barbarian is a new horror film with a seemingly bland poster and snooze-worthy plot, all I can say is that everything is not what it seems, and what it is, is for the GIRLIES!! This is also a redo of my original Barbarian episode as I did not intend for it to be published! *facepalm*. TW: for discussions of misogyny and rape.
HUGE TW for this episode as SA and misogyny is discussed. Especially during the time stamps of 12:55 and 20:00. In this episode, Maddy analyzes and discusses how completely normal and mundane Barbarian was and how it most certainly didn't have an amazing twist and most certainly did not exceed all expectations ;) We briefly discuss the film and in length discuss the necessity of women's voices in horror and how movies can be best understood by women too. This movie was insane. For more reasons than one! Barbarian is great and it's 4 the Girlies!!
George Miller's newest theatrical release has been called many things: erotic, horny, exciting, etc. Everyone lied. Join Maddy In discussing this new film and her thoughts. More info about Arabic Djinn: https://www.vice.com/en/article/9k7ekv/what-are-jinn-arab-spirits.
