In this short podcast, Roman Baugh takes over with his new series, "The Deep End," where he shares tech support conversations. This time, Roman is on the other end of a live tech support call about a grounded compressor with an existing Mitsubishi mini-split (Mr. Slim heat pump). The unit in this case had an unclear service history due to the homeowner moving in recently. In this issue, the compressor kicked on and kicked off immediately. After the technician in this scenario told tech support that he had no continuity from the compressor to ground, tech support asked him to check the resistance (which was 43 ohms from black to ground and 43 from white to ground). Tech support concluded that the compressor was grounded, and it needed to be replaced (along with the PCB). However, the resistance disappeared mid-call, and intermittent resistance readings don't always indicate a failed winding; it's worth noting that cool ambient temperatures that enable liquid refrigerant to migrate into the compressor could potentially skew electrical readings. Roman recommended shutting the system down and trying to get the system to run. His rationale was that if the unit ran and didn't keep stopping, the system may have been overcharged or lacking a crankcase heater. However, that did not show any improvement in operation; the compressor rattled for about a second and shut off. A resistance test confirmed that the compressor was grounded, pointing to a mechanical issue with the compressor and not just a one-off instance of refrigerant migration. This type of failure can happen when there are repeated instances of liquid refrigerant in the crankcase over time. Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? Interview with Anne Richmond Boston of Swimming Pool Q's. Anne was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a member of the church choir, took violin and ballet lessons all through elementary school. Her father was transferred to Winter Haven, Florida, for one year (where violin and ballet stopped) and then moved the family to Atlanta, Georgia. She was accepted into the high school chorus and was chosen to sing in a special chorus performing Leonard Bernstein's “Chichester Psalms.” Vocal harmonies were something she came to naturally. Perfoming “Going to the Chapel” with a band in the high school talent show was her first experience of being onstage behind a mic. She really dug it. It was about this time that the music of Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Sandy Denny, Linda Ronstadt, Tammy Wynette, Dolly Parton, Melba Montgomery, Aretha Franklin, Judy Collins, and The Supremes took up residence in her being. She became friends with local Atlanta phenoms Thermos Greenwood (original rock band) and was invited along with a chorus of people to sing on the song “Chocolate City” for their album Pinhead Teddy. Anne was invited to become a member of the newly formed band The Swimming Pool Q's in 1978 and sang on their recordings The Deep End, The Swimming Pool Q's, and Blue Tomorrow. They continue to perform today. As a graphic designer, Anne created much of the early Swimming Pool Q's promotional material, supervised photo sessions, and designed single and album cover packaging. Leaving the Q's in 1987, Anne and her then-husband recorded The Big House of Time which was released on DB Records in 1990. It contained many originals and several cover songs, including “When You Dance” by Neil Young and “Darling Be Home Soon” by John Sebastian. T he follow up was I Should Be Happy. Anne's has had the pleasure of singing either live with, or on recordings by: Drive-By Truckers, Widespread Panic, Thermos Greenwood, Terry Adams (NRBQ), The Brains, Johnny Jenkins, Marti Jones, Syd Straw, Laurie Sargent, Julie Adams, Kelly Hogan
Corey Minor of the Smart Christians Channel recently posted a detailed response to Michael Miller's appearance on Deep End with Lecrae, challenging the biblical basis for generational curses and deliverance ministry. In this episode, the Remnant Radio team engages that critique directly with respect for Corey as a Christian brother and honest disagreement with his conclusions. The core question on the table: Can believers be cursed? Can unbelievers? Is anyone born under a curse? And is the term "generational curse" even biblical language? The guys unpack the Hebrew words ārar, qālal, and ālāh, expose what they believe is an etymological fallacy at the heart of Corey's argument, and trace the theology of blessing and curse from Genesis 3 through the Deuteronomic covenant all the way to Galatians 3 and the new covenant promises of Jeremiah 31.They also wrestle honestly with their own disagreements. Miller makes the case for demonic spirits traveling down family lines (citing Mark 9 and the demonized boy who'd suffered "since infancy"). Rowntree prefers the language of "generational consequences" over "generational curses." And Lewis draws a distinction between God as active agent vs. passive agent in the Deuteronomic curses -- with both Job and 1 Kings 22 shaping his thinking.Part 2 is coming. The team still needs to address whether unbelievers can curse others, how curses actually operate metaphysically, and why not everyone in a family line seems to be equally affected.0:00 – Introduction & Episode Roadmap10:24 – Corey Minor Clip One14:14 – Responding to Clip One31:09 – Hebrew Words for Curse36:48 – Covenant Curse Framework56:42 – Jeremiah 31 New Covenant1:00:09 – Automatic vs. Active Freedom1:04:59 – Deuteronomic Curses Today1:13:27 – ClosingINTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministry___________________________________________INTRODUCTION TO DELIVERANCE MINISTRY eCoursePRESALE: $100 OFF through May 1 LEARN MORE: https://www.theremnantradio.com/intro-to-deliverance-ministry Subscribe to The Remnant Radio newsletter and receive our FREE introduction to spiritual gifts eBook. They discuss the game's divisive reputation, its unique aesthetics, and even more unique semi-roguelike structure. Rebecca and Ann discuss walking as a way of being in the world as a poet, inviting us to observe closely and stay in the moment, even as we look back and forward in time. This is a collection in which nature holds a steady presence as Rebecca reflects on childhood, friendship, motherhood, grief, and more. In this episode's Ask Randi, Dr. Randi Eckel (0:33:52) answers a common homeowner question: what should you do when a large tree dies—remove it or let it stand? Responding to a listener, she explains the powerful role of “snags” in supporting wildlife and how to manage them, from how much to leave to whether branches and stubs matter.Next, Kim talks with Elise Howard (0:46:42), author of Plant This, Not That, about how thoughtful plant choices can create meaningful habitat. Elise shares practical, inspiring guidance for turning any space into a resilient native plant garden with over two hundred native plant swaps. Don't miss a chance to meet Elise in person on April 20th when she partners with the Nature of Reading Bookshop and the Madison Environmental Commission, and on April 22nd at the Maplewood Library. Pool Pros text questions hereMyth, Memory, and the Real Story Behind the WaterA Conversation with Eric Herman | Talking Pools PodcastSome voices in an industry don't simply report the story — they shape how the story is told.In this episode of Talking Pools, host Natalie Hood, Director of Education and Network Development for The Grit Game, sits down with one of the most influential storytellers the aquatic industry has ever produced: Eric Herman, Vice President of Communications for Watershape University and longtime editor of the legendary publication WaterShapes Magazine. For more than four decades, Herman has documented the evolution of pools, fountains, spas, and aquatic design — not merely as a trade reporter, but as a historian of water itself. His work spans the early days of modern pool construction journalism at Pool & Spa News, the groundbreaking launch of WaterShapes Magazine in 1999, and today's digital continuation of that legacy through watershapes.com, a library containing more than 5,000 articles chronicling the craft, science, and culture of water. But this episode isn't just about history. It's about myths — the assumptions, half-truths, and inherited wisdom that circulate through the pool industry and public perception alike. And in a conversation that moves effortlessly between science, storytelling, and cultural memory, Herman and Hood begin dismantling some of the most persistent myths surrounding swimming pools, safety, and water chemistry.A Journalist in the Deep EndEric Herman's journey into the aquatic world began not with pools, but with curiosity. His first published article in 1986 — for Orange Coast Magazine — examined the emerging microbrewery industry. Within three years, that curiosity would lead him to an interview in Los Angeles with pool industry pioneer Jim McCloskey, then editor of Pool & Spa News. The result was a career that has now stretched 40 years. At Pool & Spa News, Herman covered everything from service techniques and plaster science to drowning prevention — topics that would later shape the direction of aquatic education and professional training across the industry. When Herman and McCloskey launched WaterShapes Magazine in 1999, they intentionally broadened the conversation beyond swimming pools. The publication examined water as a design medium.Pools, fountains, ponds, streams, water parks, hot springs, landscape architecture, and hydrological design all found a home in its pages. The result was a publication that changed how aquatic professionals thought about their craft.Today, that legacy continues through the digital platform watershapes.com, publishing twice monthly and maintaining one of the most comprehensive archives of aquatic design knowledge anywhere in the world.Myth Busting BeginsHood frames the conversation around a theme she frequently explores on the show: myths in aquatics. But Herman begins by reframing the idea of myth itself.Traditionally, he explains, myths weren't falsehoods. They were symbolic stories meant to communicate deeper truths. The modern use of the word — describing something widely believed but factually incorrect — is almost the opposite.Wit Support the showThank you so much for listening! "I Should Be Happy" Singer/keyboardist Anne Richmond Boston showed up on the musical timeline in the late '70s when she joined the Atlanta indie rock outfit The Swimming Pool Q's. Before the goldrush of bands like R.E.M., Soul Asylum, O Positive, Big Dipper and Poi Dog Pondering signing to major labels, The Swimming Pool Q's kind of led the way, inking deals in the mid-'80s with A&M and Capitol Records. They put out five marvelous albums, including Blue Tomorrow and The Deep End, toured with Devo and The Police and garnered a reputation for being a spot-on live act, their brand of idiosyncratic pop filled with jittery rhythms, sterling sax fills, jangling guitars and sonorous vocals. Richmond Boston left the band in 1989 but roared right back with her 1990 debut solo album Big House Of Time. Filled with soaring originals like Dreaming and covers of numbers by Neil Young, John Hiatt and The Lovin' Spoonful, Big House Of Time made a huge splash at college radio. And then? Well, Richmond Boston designed album covers, worked in graphic arts, sang with The Drive By Truckers and Widespread Panic and rejoined the Q's. And that was that. But what about the rumored follow-up to Big House Of Time? Well, it was recorded and sitting on a shelf in a closet in Richmond Boston's house. Titled I Should Be Happy, her sophomore album was worth the wait. A riveting collection that's filled with meditative and melodic numbers, I Should Be Happy is contemplative and moving and finds Richmond Boston tackling the big questions with peerless harmonic grace. www.annerichmondboston.bandcamp.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com Threads + BLUESKY + IG: @emberspodcast editor@stereoembersthepodcast.com

Ken Condon describes himself as a commuter, tourer, an off-road rider, a track-day instructor, road racer, an ice rider, a drag racer, and “plain old street rider.” Truth is, as wide-ranging as that description may sound, it barely scratches the surface of the many things Condon has done not just on a motorcycle but, more importantly, for his fellow motorcyclists. Ken is the author of two books, “Riding in the Zone” and “Motorcycling the Right Way.” The latter is a compilation of the “Proficient Motorcycling” columns published in Motorcycle Consumer News. “I wrote that column for 14 years—2,800 words, plus photos, every month,” he tells “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long. Condon also penned “Street Strategies” for the same title. That's to say Condon has devoted most of his life to not only becoming a better rider himself but to helping others become better riders. “‘The well is very deep' is what I tell my students,” he says. “You can choose to swim on the surface and tread water, or you can dive deep and get down there and see what it's all about. And there's an awful lot there. It just goes, and goes, and goes.” Riding In The Zone Website Ken Condon on Facebook Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

EPISODE 140: Christine Ohlman is the long-time vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band on NBC whose towering hair earned her the nickname “The Beehive Queen.” She is one of the queens of American Rock n' Soul, deeply embedded in the scenes in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and New Orleans Louisiana as well as—of course—NYC. She leads Christine Ohlman & Rebel Montez, with whom she has released six CDs. (The latest, “The Deep End,” appeared on several year-end national Top Ten lists). She has recently collaborated with Dion on his chart-topping CD of duets, “Girl Friends” as well as appearing on recent tributes to Wilson Pickett and Matt “Guitar” Murphy. She is a musicologist of note, and her radio show/Apple Podcast “Soul Hive” is now in its second year. christineohlman.netContact us: makingsoundpodcast.comFollow on Instagram: @makingsoundpodcastFollow on Threads: @jannkloseJoin our Facebook GroupPlease support the show with a donation, thank you for listening!
Jared and Mike speak with seasoned national security reporter Ken Klippenstein about the expansion of national surveillance programs targeting anti-ICE activists and community organizers, alongside others they consider threats to the MAGA political agenda. While DHS denies that the agency maintains databases of so-called "domestic terrorists," Ken's reporting revealed that to be plainly untrue.Ken shares what he's learned about the watchlists and databases ICE uses, how advancements in technology them more threatening to civil liberties, and how they sit in America's history of secretive domestic surveillance programs. The guys also get Ken's take on Kash Patel's tenure as FBI director. You'll want to fire up the Paramount+ and place that Uber Eats order for this one, but don't forget to look cool while doing it.
