We're two registered dietitians who eat all the foods so we can climb all the mountains - not just figuratively speaking! Coming at you from beautiful Jackson Hole, we’re here to call out diet bulltsh*t, talk all things performance nutrition, and give y

Today, I have my friend Makayla Meixner on the podcast! Makayla is another registered dietitian who works with mountain athletes. She's based in Vail, Colorado, and we have decided to partner together to create a super amazing resource for you - whether you're a mountain athlete, or just someone who enjoys moving their body - you're going to love what we've made for you. We want to make nutrition easy to understand and AFFORDABLE, especially with the way the economy is right now. We see so many registered dietitians and nutritionists selling these expensive group courses on social media, and frankly, I can't afford those. So that's why Makayla and I teamed up to bring you the Own It Nutrition Academy! This platform is LIVE right now and you can go sign up for it at academy.ownitnutrition.com If you have questions, you are more than welcome to reach out to me or Makayla! My instagram handle is gardenofeden_rd and Makayla's is ownitnutrition
Let's chat about functional nutrition! In this episode, Eden interviews her friend Britni Johnson. Britni is a functional nutrition therapy practitioner based in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and she's one of those friends in Eden's life who inspires her to get after it, whatever it is! Just go for it. Stand tall, own who you are, and be the bright shining light in the darkness. Britni has a very unique background that led her to becoming a functional nutrition therapy practitioner, and Eden really wanted to pick her brain about all things functional medicine. Eden thinks there should be an overlap between conventional nutrition and functional nutrition for most of us - take what works for you, leave what doesn't. Britni agrees, and even though they don't line up exactly when it comes to some topics - they have this amazing mutual respect for one another as women in the mountain sports world.
I'm on the other side of the microphone in this episode! My friend Dean Thompson, an endurance runner and co-host of the Run for God podcast. When Dean reached out to ask me to be a repeat guest, he asked which topics I wanted to chat about, and what came to my mind is how eating "healthy" might not actually be enough to support your athletic endeavors! You need more than fruits and veggies when you're engaging in endurance sports like running and trail running! If you like this episode, share it with a friend and rate it/leave a review! You can find other episodes from Run for God on Youtube & Spotify! Also, I've got space for a few 1:1 clients until the end of July and I'm offering 40% off an initial consult or a follow-up session with me! Send me an email at eden@tetonperformancenutrition.com to take advantage of this offer! If weight loss is your goal, check out Metabolism Makeover, the nutrition program that focuses on teaching you how to put your body into fat burning mode by increasing your metablism, not by decreasing your calories! Use code EDEN for $100 off, and I'll see you on August 1st when we kick off the program! If you're a mountain athlete, you've gotta check out Own it Nutrition Academy, an affordable monthly membership Makayla Meixner and I created to help you learn how to fuel your body to match your training demands! Nutrition is kind of the Wild West when it comes to health, and it's difficult to know who you can trust when it comes to who's credible and who's not. Fun Fact: the requirements to become a registered dietitian and a certified nutrition specialist are incredibly similar. One major difference: Certified Nutrition Specialists are required to have a Master's degree...and Registered Dietitians aren't, at least for now. Eden has made friends with several CNSs in the mountain sports world, including Caitlin Holmes, AKA @dirtbagnutritionist. In this episode, Caitlin & Eden discuss their paths to their current careers and why they chose the paths they did PLUS a ton of tips and tricks they used when starting their own private practices. Caitlin is also the host of The Average Climber podcast - which you should definitely check out if you're a climber or would like to get into rock climbing! If you enjoy this episode, rate it and/or share it with a friend.
In this episode, Eden talks with Jackson Long, one of her close friends in the mountain sports nutrition world. Jackson is a performance nutritionist based out of Sun Valley, Idaho, the host of In The Flow, one of Eden's favorite podcasts, & all around mountain athlete. Eden wanted to pick Jackson's brain about nutrition for mountain biking since she's still fairly new to the sport & he's been cycling competitively since he was a preteen. But they end up chatting about so many other awesome topics, which is why Eden loves talking with Jackson - on & off the air. Their nutrition philosophies overlap in some really cool ways, & more conversations like this need to be had between coaches, young athletes, and anyone who is interested in mountain sports. If you enjoy this conversation, share this podcast with a friend, leave a review - & just tell Eden since she's new to podcasting, so any and all encouragement is welcome! If you'd like to work with Eden or with Jackson, you can shoot them an email at eden@tetonperformancenutrition.com or jackson@intheflownutrition.com.
Alcohol & Mountain towns... Julie & Eden truly do think that life is all about balance, & that includes alcohol. But mountain towns tend to normalize binge drinking to the point where we feel odd for not "sending it" like our peers. There's a phrase that says "Mountain towns are drinking towns with a skiing problem." In this episode, Eden interviews her friend Heather, a sommelier & mountain athlete, & they discuss the intricacies of alcohol, how to enjoy it mindfully, & how to use a hangover to your advantage. Follow Heather on Instagram at @mind_bottling_ or @adventuresandwinejh & email her at heatherstuart@adventuresandwine.com Follow Eden on Instagram at @gardenofeden_rd & Julie at @nutritionbyjulie Thank you for listening! A couple weeks ago, Julie & Eden took a tour of Vertical Harvest Farms, a hydroponic greenhouse located in downtown Jackson, Wyoming. Vertical Harvest is a female founded company that partners with local restaurants & businesses, & they also aim to provide those with developmental disabilities opportunities to create meaningful careers. Vertical Harvest is a hydroponic farm that utilizes vertical growing techniques & controlled environmental agriculture to provide the local community with fresh produce 365 days/year regardless of weather conditions. With land becoming limited in many areas of the country, VH has been able to create a growing model that uses a fraction of the land that is required by traditional agriculture. You can follow Vertical Harvest on Instagram at @verticalharvestfarms, & also keep a look out for their greens at local restaurants & grocery stores. Orchestra Provisions was founded by Kate Stoddard, a native Idahoan with intertwined passions for nature and the nourishment it provides. Kate's career as a wilderness river guide instilled a keen sense of stewardship & duty to protect & educate people about the importance of wild, natural spaces. Kate obtained a masters in the science of nutrition from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon. It was here that Kate focused her energy toward food systems and necessary education regarding the search for regenerative solutions. Orchestra was born based on a philosophy that insects can be used as ingredients & don't have to be eaten whole to reap the nutritional and sustainable benefits of this incredible superfood staple, and so Orchestra's delicious superfood blends were created! You can follow Kate & Orchestra provisions on Instagram at @orchestraprovsions, & if you're based in Jackson Hole/Teton Valley, keep an eye out for Orchestra Provisions at local spots including Inversion Cafe!
