When it comes to gymnast nutrition, “healthy” and “adequate” are not the same thing. And confusing the two can keep your gymnast stuck in frustration, struggling with performance, and at higher risk of injury. So many parents tell me, “But Christina, my gymnast eats so healthy!” And while that's absolutely important, the real question is—is she eating enough? Here's the truth. A gymnast can eat the cleanest, most nutrient-dense diet in the world, but if it's not adequate—meaning enough total energy, protein, carbs, and fats—her body is still underfueled. And that underfueling leads to stalled progress, poor recovery, and increased injury risk (even when everything looks “healthy” on the plate). Gymnasts need adequacy to meet the high demands of training and competition so "healthy nutrition" doesn't automatically equal “performance nutrition.” If your gymnast is serious about her goals, nutrition has to go beyond “healthy.” Adequate fueling is the foundation for strength, energy, growth, and keeping her body safe from injuries. ✨ This episode is a must-listen if you've ever wondered why your gymnast is doing all the right things with her food but still seems tired, stuck, or sidelined by nagging injuries. You might have that "ah-ha" moment...In this episode you'll learn: The key differences between “healthy” and “adequate” fueling for gymnasts Why just focusing on clean eating can actually backfire for gymnasts Meeting energy needs is non-negotiable if your gymnast wants to stay strong, healthy, and progressing in the sport. Ali shares personal experiences and insights to encourage listeners to be mindful of their eating habits and to seek help if needed. Access Nourishment started as a school project and quickly evolved into a calling that could be something more. Dr. Shelby Gonser and Louise Shines connected on the project and while they both took slightly different angles to the impact nutrition can have, both of them benefit ATs and the patients they care for. In this episode, we hear the story of how Access Nourishment got started. Shelby and Louise share each of their passions around nutrition and how eating “healthy” as an AT isn't always easy and being able to provide good nutritional information to patients can be challenging. Fat Loss Simplified: tips for weight loss, workouts, nutrition, fitness, and a balanced life
Ever feel like you know exactly what you should be doing—eating better, moving more, getting your workouts in—but you just can't seem to actually get yourself to do them? In today's episode, I'm answering one of the most common questions I get: “What should I do when I don't feel motivated?” We'll unpack why motivation isn't something you can rely on—and how to take action even when you're not feeling it. If you've ever struggled with getting started or staying consistent, this episode will give you the mindset shift you need to build momentum and get results—even when motivation is nowhere to be found. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why motivation is the last thing you should wait for A powerful analogy that changes how you think about motivation and consistency The real key to building long-term consistency (hint: it's not discipline) How to take action—even when you don't feel like it A simple strategy to help you choose your next small step Key Takeaways Motivation is a terrible place to start – It only shows up after you've already seen results. Results come from action—not feelings – Waiting to “feel ready” is what keeps most people stuck. Small wins build big momentum – Start with one non-negotiable habit you can improve this week. Progress > perfection – You don't need to overhaul your life overnight. You just need to take the next step. The flywheel effect is real – Action leads to results, which leads to motivation, which fuels more action. Whether you're just getting started or you've hit a wall, this episode will help you stop waiting, start moving, and finally create the kind of consistency that makes fat loss feel simple. What if I told you that your “healthy eating” might be just another diet in disguise? What if your pursuit of wellness is actually hurting your relationship with food - and your body - more than helping it? This is what I call “The Wellness Trap,” which happens when your pursuit of healthy eating turns into a form of dieting or disordered eating, and it's far more common than you might realize. Healthy eating is praised in our culture as a noble and admirable thing to do. However, part of the issue is that the way society views “healthy eating” is warped, extreme, restrictive and often disordered. This can make it hard to know how to truly honor your health with your eating, without it crossing the line into dieting or disordered territory. In this episode we're going to talk about how to find the balance that feels right for YOU with your eating and your approach to health. Health and wellness has been under attack for a long time. Now that people have woken up to it, the establishment is doing everything they can to demonize people who adopt a healthy lifestyle. From labeling adolescents who “don't eat the way they use to” and focus on fitness as having an eating disorder called “Bigorexia” to labeling people who practice yoga as Nazis, because apparently the Nazis liked yoga, health is under assault. They want you unfit and lazy, that's the only way their plans work. Is eating healthy becoming a luxury? This week, we dive into why nutritious food is more expensive than ever and how to make eating well more affordable. Plus, fresh vs frozen food—does it really matter? We break down what's worth spending on and where frozen might be the better option. We also talk about The Hot Girl Walk, the TikTok trend with over 600 million views that might be the easiest (and cheapest) wellness habit yet. Then, we unpack NAD+, the latest “longevity hack” that has celebrities hooked. Does it actually work, or is it just another expensive quick fix? And finally, why you don't need to be perfect to be healthy. Science shows our happiness and well-being naturally ebb and flow. No one feels 100% all the time, and that's normal. We explore why ‘good enough' can sometimes be the best health strategy.
