What really happens when you stop dieting and start eating healthy? In this episode, we hear from two real people who spent years trying to “do the right thing” with food and still felt stuck. Today, we're joined by Becky and Mark, two ZOE members sharing their personal journeys. Each of them has spent the past two years consistently applying ZOE nutrition principles. Instead of relying on rules or restrictions, they embarked on a science-led journey with ZOE, focused on understanding their bodies. The results? Truly remarkable - ZOE became such an important part of their lives that, alongside 18,000 other members of our community, they became ZOE owners through our crowdfunding. So what changed, and did it last? Alongside Professors Tim Spector and Sarah Berry, we explore how Becky and Mark stay motivated and on track, the lessons they have learned, and the strategies they have used to feel more in control and more confident in their everyday choices. As well as some unexpected shifts along the way. It's a conversation about long-term change, not quick fixes, and you'll leave it with real-life examples of how to make healthy eating a part of your everyday life. If healthy eating wasn't about willpower or perfection, what small change would you start with? And what would help you take that first step this week? Unwrap the truth about your food

This episode of The Better Life with Dr Pinkston features Dr Pinkston and Ray Solano from PD Labs, focusing on how to navigate and survive the holidays—dubbed the "Super Bowl of Sugar" (Halloween to Valentine's Day)—without derailing your health goals. The discussion centers on research challenging restrictive dieting, suggesting that unrestricted eating of nutritious food, layered with non-digestible fiber (nuts, seeds, berries) to slow sugar absorption, can offer similar benefits to fasting without the negative effects. Key Takeaways: Mindful Holiday Strategy: The holidays are a time for balance and not gaining weight, rather than focusing intensely on losing it. The Problem with Restriction: Restrictive diets (like extreme keto or carnivore) can backfire psychologically and physically. Research suggests high protein without proper carbohydrates can negatively affect longevity. The "Eat Human" Approach: Focus on a common-sense approach: avoid processed foods, know your intolerances, and aim for a balance of protein, fat, and carbs (suggested ratio: 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carb) in every meal. Breakfast is Key: Start the day with high protein (40 grams) to stabilize blood sugars, reducing cravings later. Avoid traditional high-carb breakfasts like instant oatmeal. Stay Hydrated & Stress-Free: Managing stress with simple supplements like Magnesium Glycinate and Theanine (or cortisol managers like Triquillata) is crucial, as stress often leads to poor eating choices. Next-Generation Health: Ray Solano introduces PD Labs' work on peptides (like the GLP-1 incretins) and their innovative two-year project to make these high-molecular-weight molecules available transdermally (non-injectable) by Christmas, transforming chronic disease prevention. The conversation emphasizes starting your health recovery journey now, not waiting for a "magical time" in January.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

New research indicates making healthy choices might require more effort than updating your grocery list. A new study claims women's eating habits are more socially sensitive, and when isolated, they're 85 percent more likely to stop eating vegetables daily and twice as likely to stop eating fruit. The study also claims that when women's social networks shrink or become less diverse, women lose the social scaffolding that supports healthy eating patterns. Naturopath and wellness expert Erin O'Hara explains the research further - and how you can make healthy choices. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When it comes to gymnast nutrition, “healthy” and “adequate” are not the same thing. And confusing the two can keep your gymnast stuck in frustration, struggling with performance, and at higher risk of injury. So many parents tell me, “But Christina, my gymnast eats so healthy!” And while that's absolutely important, the real question is—is she eating enough? Here's the truth. A gymnast can eat the cleanest, most nutrient-dense diet in the world, but if it's not adequate—meaning enough total energy, protein, carbs, and fats—her body is still underfueled. And that underfueling leads to stalled progress, poor recovery, and increased injury risk (even when everything looks “healthy” on the plate). Gymnasts need adequacy to meet the high demands of training and competition so "healthy nutrition" doesn't automatically equal “performance nutrition.” If your gymnast is serious about her goals, nutrition has to go beyond “healthy.” Adequate fueling is the foundation for strength, energy, growth, and keeping her body safe from injuries. ✨ This episode is a must-listen if you've ever wondered why your gymnast is doing all the right things with her food but still seems tired, stuck, or sidelined by nagging injuries. You might have that "ah-ha" moment...In this episode you'll learn: The key differences between “healthy” and “adequate” fueling for gymnasts Why just focusing on clean eating can actually backfire for gymnasts Meeting energy needs is non-negotiable if your gymnast wants to stay strong, healthy, and progressing in the sport. Tracking food intake can reveal hidden calories that contribute to weight gain. Emotional eating often occurs when individuals are stressed or bored. Balanced meals containing protein, fat, and fiber can reduce the urge to snack. Mindful eating practices can help individuals recognize when they are truly hungry. Ali offers free consultations to help individuals with their health and weight loss journeys.
